I just recently bought this on ebay:
Sony Dream System Sub-woofer Model SS-WS5
and it doesnt have a power in/out cord. What exactly does this mean? does this mean that it runs off the power from the speaker wire? I am really confused about this? Can someone please answer? thanks

If it doesn't have a power cord, that means it's a passive subwoofer - in other words, it's dependent on your receiver/amplifier to power it. I'm pretty sure that means it won't work off the LFE/sub-out channel from the receiver/amplifier - you'll have to connect it to one of the speaker connections.

AHHH, ok, ill try that, I think my recevier has a sub R/L speaker connections. you think it'll work?

It is a passive sub and won't work with the LFE out from your AVR. It needs an amplified signal, so you have to connect it to your mains output. I can't find anything else about this sub, so you have to look at the connections and controls and tell me what you see.

All it seems to have is a pair of spring-lock terminals. It needs an amplifier to drive it.

the AVR only supplies a low level signal out of the LFE output

Most regular receivers don't have amplification for the subwoofer. Most subwoofers are powered, with the amp on the back. You got a passive subwoofer, no amp, that came from a HTiB system that ran off of an amp channel in the system's receiver. You can run it off of a channel of the regular receiver, but then you can't hook a speaker up there. Basically it's junk unless you pick up a separate mono amplifier to run it.

I'm wondering the same thing. I've got a STR-DE915 amp in my bedroom connected to my computer. I'm only running two fronts from it.
If I get this sub, would I get more power from connecting it to the terminals where the fronts are connected, or should I connect it to the rear channels, or the B channels (and run A+B)?
