I just purchased the tv because of a great deal. But it wont come until friday.... so i have now until friday to decide to keep it or not.. but i am wondering who kept it here...

Didn't keep it, but it wasn't because it wasn't a great TV it is. I was just disappointed about the handling of digital HDMI signals (PC and overscanning) that I thought I would get something that I would definetly be happy with.

If you do not use a PC over the digital inputs, then this is a great set. The PC issue is mostly noticeable due to the start menu being mostly cropped away. For video, you will not notice it.

whats overscanning... please help guys... i dont want to be stuck with a tv that i will have to return in the end....

Overscan is where a TV crops a small portion of the image (1.5% on top and bottom, 2.5% on the sides for the 4095) to eliminate the timing an other signal artifacts which are included in an analog signal. If you have ever seen a "twittering" line at the top, bottom or sides of a picture showing an image originating from broadcast or component video, you know why overscan exists.

The problem is that with digital sources, overscan is an anachronism. It is especially objectionable to PC users since it occludes quite a bit of the Start bar and Start button in Windows.

well i am going to use it only for viewing hdtv, sdtv and movies... this tv should do the trick right???

I returned mine, but found the picture quality to be exceptional when fed decent content. 1080p videos from Microsoft and Apple are amazing, but keep in mind that this set will definitely make you realize how good or bad the content your viewing is...

I was planning to keep this TV for at least 5 years and wanted to buy something that would be as future-proof as possible so the ability to handle a HTPC signal was critical. Samsung, IMO, dropped the bal here by failing to offer a digital path for such a signal and was the biggest reason I returned the TV. The handling of SD content, while good, was also not to the level I felt comfortable with. When viewing SD or even some HD content at about 3-4ft away, I could see artifacts, blocking and noise... most, if not all, the result of poor encoding and overcompression and certainly reproduceable on any HDTV. Don't get me wrong, it's probably one of the best LCDs available right now, I just have some rather high standards that I feel should be met if I'm going to spend ~3k on a TV.

I'm using it for those purposes plus X-box 360 and I'm quite pleased. If you are an HTPC guy, this may not be the one for you, but for most of us, it's great.

cool... then i will keep it.... yeah.. i always have an hdtv 17 inch for my comp... its all i need..

are you guy using HDMI input to connect your pc to the samsung?

am i missing something here? since when did HDMI vidoe cards became available or are guys using a dvi-hdmi adopter?

I was this close to buying one. But without 1:1 pixel mapping I am forced to get an XBR2. Could have saved some money and had a better looking bezel by far. Pretty big oversight Samsung.

XBR2? why not get the sharp LC-37D90U 37" instead? it's only 2k now, last couple of days i checked it was $2100

Cause the XBR2 used the same panel as the Samsung. And will have better a processor. The Sharp is a nice TV by all means, but I think the XBR2/3 will be the top LCD available untill summer 2007.

is it really necessary to pay extra $600-$900 for the extra 3" when you can get the sharp d90 for just 2k?

Has anyone returned the 4095 and already received an XBR2 or 37D90U? If so do you think that the PQ is the same or better for all sources excluding the PC?

When I first started looking for an HDTV, I was planning to buy a 37d90u, but I got tired of waiting for Sharp to release it. Now that it's available, nobody in my area will carry it and I'm unwilling to buy a TV without having seen it in person. My hope at this point is that the XBR2 will arrive within the next two weeks...

I too am looking at the 37d90u VS. 40xbr2 VS. 4095d

I will be using an htpc. IF a tv does not have a DVI in, it must accept its native resolution with no overscan (1:1 pixel mapping) on it's hdmi inputs. i am saddened to hear the samsung does not do this...

DO we have proof the xbr2 will do 1:1 pixel mapping at 1920x1080 on it's HDMI inputs? (htpc with dvi out, dvi to hdmi adapter, to hdmi in on xbr2)

I will be keeping the 4095D eventhough the SD is sub-par.

I will mostly be using the TV for general purpose watching and some video games. It might also be used with the whole house audio system. Have a good picture on non HD content is important to me. I can get it for $2400, for what I want is this good enough or should go with the XBR or wait for the XBR2/3?

the overscanning pc problem really only affects ati users. you can fix an overscanned image with a newer nvidia card. also , i've heard that you can get 1:1 with the samsungs vga input.

I bought this TV 4 weeks ago from Amazon. Paid $1550. The TV is outstanding if you make the correct adjustments to the picture settings. Setting the Energy Saver on High or Medium will give you outstanding blacks. I use this TV for a computer monitor (VGA) and for an HDTV via HDMI. Again, it is outstanding. It upconverts very well. I have played some 1080p video from my computer and the definition is very good. Yes, I believe the XBR2 may have a slightly better picture. But for me, marginal benefit for the additional cost was not worth it for the Sony. email with any questions, more than happy to test things out or give more feedback. Very happy with this TV being that I'm used to a high end marantz plasma at my "rents" house.
