I received the confirmation Email, followed the link, accessed the beta site, but it wouldn't let me log in; i.e. it didn't buy the username / password provided. I then tried to re-register and ended up back at the same confirmation site, again went to the beta site, but still couldn't log in. Anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong. Please reply via a private message if more appropriate.

I started with firmware 12-77-060218-03-LTI-240-000.

Upgraded to 13-82-060509-03-LTI-240-000, then 13-82-060703-03-LTI-240-000.

When I attempted to go to 13-82-060703-03-LTI-240-000-stepstone-fix, I got the following messages: Receiving new image... Done Wrong signature System error: Oxdead 15, <Press any key to reboot>

Also, the initial startup page showing the available devices on my network is now just a black and white list of devices. The setup page is missing the titles across the top also. I tried going back to 12-77, but these two problems didn't go away - it was working properly before I started the upgrades.

Anyone else having this problem? Suggestions?

DonaldG, the stepstone file is for upgrading from out of box 05-03 firmwares. The upgrade is needed for everything else. If you read the notes on the 13-82-0607 firmware, it says to re-run the Interface update at the bottom of the page. This will fix the black screen problem.

Thx

I have never understood the meaning of 'stepstone' in this context, Brian, so I didn't realize I should stop at basic 13-82-0607. Also never figured out how to find notes on the firmware upgrades, so missed the need to run the Interface update.

All is well now. thanks.

BTW, any chance there will ever be an update to PCast for my LinkStation? Its UI is really cumbersome...

Brian,

I'm very happy with my LT so far, but I have a couple of questions/requests:

1) does the LT support any kind of PAR/DAR signaling? I have a couple of encodes I've made, but the player does not seem to honor the flag. If this is not done, is there any chance it might be implemented in the future?

2) would it be possible to add support for multiple subtitles for the same file a la:

foo.avi
foo.en.srt
foo.es.srt

3) or, even better, support for embedded subtitles in the avi and/or mp4 containers?

Thanks a lot!

Brian,

I've upgraded the firmware as required, which seems to fix the power glitch that I was having with ver 8. The noticeable issues that I am having right now are

1. DVD seems to glitch/hang after extended use, By extended I mean towards the end of a second movie. Once you let the system cool down, power on, no problem ( I know this is a HW issue and not software related)

2. Divx movies encoded with updgraded divx version are now able to be played, however all of my divx movies (even the ones that were encoded with and older version that played on the previous firmware versions) now have a blotchy screen while playing.

I guess I should be more specific.

I'm using ver 13-82-060703-03-LTI-240-000 and I've tried it both wired and wireless. I'm also using PC 1.6

I can't use my linktheater at all. When I login to the computer and select video, It starts loading, and then I'm back at the same screen. Same for music and photos. I can only use the services menu to get the firmware update or browse the web. I'm on an intel macmini and a macbookpro. Maybe the mac software doesn't work well on the intel macs or could it be my linktheater? I don't know because I upgraded the macmini and did the firmware update at the same time.. :(

Is there any software available for a conversion of the HD videofiles so that it would be playable on Buffalo? I still don't get it - which one it does play and which one it doesnt'. It is very anoying - to get 4 plus G film just to find out that even so it does play very well on my computer, Buffalo simply ignores it.

I use my Buffalo to stream HD content to my Mitsu 3000 projector and it plays TS and MPEG2 files files. I usually convert the TS files to a single MPEG2 file using HDTVtoMPEG because there is a pause between each TS file. For example, I download a HD movie and there are 100+ TS files, I convert them to a single MPEG2 file for smooth playback.

However, don't bother downloading any h.264 files because the Buffalo won't play those. I've also had problems playing back anything h.264 that was reencoded to MPEG2. It's just way to choppy and stuttering. Also, I've had trouble playing back movies that have a high bit rate of 17-20mpbs. Stutters way to much and usually have to hit pause and play to clear it up, but then happens frequently again and again, so the movie it not watchable. This happened the other night with "The Devil's Rejects".

I'm still waiting for a media player to come along that will handle the high bit rates and h.264. Maybe this year sometime?

So h.264 or AVC is totally out of the picture for Buffalo - too bad. There is no run-around solution to that? There are no convertors for HD video currently - no VideoDub for HD? What is .mkv?
Also, how about WMV HD - aren't those suppose to be able to play on Buffalo? I have some of those Windows HD DVD - none of them play on the player and I couldn't figure out the way to play them from my computer.
That whole HD video crap is totally anoying nowadays - you would be probably better off waiting another 2-3 years before they finally decide which format and how to use it

Has anyone found a way to use the Linktheater server software on an Intel iMac? As far as I can tell the latest version of this software is V1.1. When I try to run it I get the following error:

Uncaught exception in main method: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /Applications/LinkTheater.app/Contents/Resources/Java/libMacOSXForkerIO.jnilib:

Anything I can do about this? The Linktheater isn't of much use until I can get it to talk to my Mac.

Hi,

I have been following this product for sometime now and I really want to buy this. The main reason why I want this product is to watch the tv shows (sometimes movies) that I download from internet (torrents or irc). Most of the downloaded files are avi or mpg. I know Buffalo LT claims to play both avi and mpg.

Does it play ALL the avi?? Almost 90% of avi that I download do not play in windows media player but in VLC player. So, when BLT claims it plays avi files, does it play only those avi that run in media player (only Microsoft codec) or ALL avi files (that is, similar to VLC)??

This is to me a sort of make or break decision to buy this otherwise awesome product. Any advise/feedback from you is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have two Buffalo Linktheaters. One is upstairs connected to a 36" SD tube TV and is used for all SD content. I've never had an issue with any avi, mpg, m2v or vob file. I'm sure I've played other file types too, but just can't recall offhand. I download movies, TV shows and music videos and the family loves using it.

The other BLT is downstairs and is connected to the HD projector and I use that one for viewing HD content I download from alt.binaries.hdtv and alt.binaries.hdtv.repost.

Tons of movies and TV shows to grab. But like I mentioned, the BLT will not handle h.264 files or files with very high bit rates of 16-17mbps.

I bought my second BLT used for $175 from a member at the Yahoo BLT group. Search Yahoo groups for Buffalo and join the group and post a message asking if someone is selling theirs. I had 4 replies from people that were interested in selling.

Good luck!

What is MKV file? Is there any way to make it playable on Buffalo? I had tried HDTVtoMPEG - it isn't working with that file.

Is there a more active Linktheater group? I tried joining the Yahoo BLT group, but never got accepted (although it looks very active)..

I've updated to the latest firmware from the beta page, but now my movies won't play sequentially (they did before).

Also, I can't seem to figure out the proper encoding of movies to retain 2:35 aspect ratio.. I have encoded almost all my kids DVDs to DiVX with no problems (they don't care about aspect ratio).. But the first parents DVD I try (POTC2: Dead Mans Chest) it never displays the aspect ratio correctly.. How do you do it?

Thanks

For some reason I can't sign on to Brian's website any longer. Each time I try I get a 'Bad Request (Invalid Host Name)' error. Anyone else having this problem? I'm hoping there is at least a beta of a new Mac version that will work with Intel Mac's. It's been a year since the last update (V1.1). Until a new rev. is released, my LinkTheater is basically a paper weight.

I have just bought the BLT and am noticing that they video frames pause for a moment every second. The audio works fine.

Im running
Firmware:04-88-050125-02-LTI-240-000
File System 02-LTI
8051 version - vla
DVDrom Firmware: D2S6

I presume that this is a known problem, is there a fix that i can apply? And are these the latest and best revisions?

Thanks
