The files are ready but the discs won't be shipped until Tuesday.

A number of people have asked for downloads so I purchased some hosting anf put the files online.

If you would like to download the files now rather than wait for the CD drop me a line and I'll send you the download info.

If you request the download that means you won't get the CD.

The files are the same either way.

I'm currently working to have a custom trailer produced and wanted to get a nice voiceover made for it. Since studio time is by ther hour it's kinda crazy

to have 3 lines spoken and pay though the nose so i had an idea. Why not have him read a bunch of lines.

So here's my question. If I decide to move forward, would people be in to pitching in together so a bunch of us could get a read done?

I'm figuring we could also have him read some other theater oriented stuff like. "Please take you seats the show is about to begin" and "Welcome to the XYZ

theater" etc.

Here's a demo clip of the guy I want to use

Demo Clip (http://www.max-headroom.com/sample.mp3)

Let me know what you guys think.

He sounds good.

You should also record lines like:

"Please turn off your cell phones"

"Now it is time for an intermission"

"Have a safe trip home"

mheadroom
08-16-06, 09:05 AM
Cool. I'll add those too. I figure that we could compile a pretty complete list along with the customized stuff and end up with a KILLER disc and the cost would be low.

I'm looking at an even split on the cost for all the members. The quote was about $330. If 10 people show interest it's only about $30 each.

Everyone would get a copy of the generic stuff along with a few lines of custom stuff.

You might also check out voice123.com. I haven't used them yet, but they will let voice talents bid jobs and send audition tapes - including scripts you send them. Don't know yet how their prices will look.

When I specked the Job I told the account exec that i wanted a full buyout. The use was personal with possible limited retail distribution. So we should be all set.

I don't want anyone to resell this. I just want a few people to pitch in so we can all get our own personal recording.

OKCHomeSeller: I was thinking of trying voice123 but when I got this quote I was pretty satisfied. I love the guys voice. He sound alot like Don LaFontaine. The quote is also pretty reasonable compared to alot of the voiceovers I've had done for work.

I think we shoudl be able to make the 10 people pretty easily. The cut off date is Aug 31st. We'll see what we have by then and finalize the script. How does that sound?

ANyone who has any suggestions for the "generic" content let me knon and I'll add it to the list.

I'm also going to put up a doc with the script as I add to it. If anyone knows what you want already, let me know and I'll add it. I'll post a link once i put the script up.

I may be interested as well... but was wondering a couple of things...

Just thinking out loud really....

Is .wav is the 'best' source? I don't really know the best way to record audio is, as far as Bits and Khz and channels, and so forth, I've ripped enough cd's to know your settings can make quite a difference, but wouldn't know where to begin when asking someone how they record voices?

Would we be expecting a track with no back ground music/noise, so it would be a pure voice track with no white noise or interference in it for us to filter out?

What about pronunciation of our surnames if that was the name of our theatre?

pgervais
08-16-06, 10:57 PM
This sounds real cool. I'm making a new custom intro and would be interested especially to get a "Welcome to the Jedi Theater" or some other Star Wars type quotes.
Everyone might something like these:

"Enjoy these Previews"
"Now for our Feature Presentation"

mheadroom

Roar, all good questions. I'll answer them one by one.

1.
Most VOs are recorded 44.1 kHz Mono. These are given as WAVs with no compression. Now these are still digital files but here's the thing. In audio there is something called the Nyquist sampling theory. It says in order to accurately reproduce an analogue sound in digital format you need twice the sampling frequency. That means a 44.1 KHz sample can accurately produce sounds up to 22 KHz. The Narrators voice is well below this level so the 44.1 KHz WAVs will be more than adequate.

2.
In order to keep costs down, the delivered files will be unedited. That means any gasping or breathing will be included in the files. This should be removed. I will be removing this for my own use and I have no problem giving you copies of my files. As far as hiss goes, this recording will be taking place in a professional studio that records VOs all the time. Usually there is very little hiss and no background noise. The small bit of hiss can easily be removed using hiss removing tools found in most editing programs. Again I have no problem doing this for you if you wish.

3.
Pronunciation is a tough one. I would suggest you write out any hard to pronounce words phonetically and maybe even provide an audio recording that I can pass on to the narrator. I will be personally patched into the session as it takes place in order to make sure the narrator gets it right.

roar

Great answers and thanks for the quick reply, for approx. $30 can't see how I could say no :)

If you are starting a group mailing list or pm list feel free to include me. I figure I would send you a recording of how I'd like my theatre name pronounced for sure, not that it is trickey or anything, but if you're going to get this done you might as well get it done right... right? :)

mheadroom

I just added the script so far to the original post. I will continue to update this as we go along.

If you have any suggestions or have decided on the custom lines you want let me know what they are and I'll add them.

Best bet is anyone who is interested should drop me an email. I've set up a special email address just for this project.

You can also send the samples of pronunciation to this email address.

with all the numbers you have in the script, you might want 21st - 29th and 31st, in case you want dates to be made or something like that.

Looks like a cool project, good luck with it.

mheadroom
08-17-06, 03:33 PM
I was thinking you could slug "20" and "1st" together for 21st. In the end depending on the total number of participants, I may just have him read them all.

BTW the Record date has been set for September the 8th. It looks like we will have enough people so I scheduled the read.

roar
08-17-06, 04:24 PM
What about 'Happy Birthday' and your kid(s) name? How many 'custom' bites would each person get? If there is only 10 people in on the buy you think you may have time for the family members names as well as the name of the home theatre?

It would be nice to be able to have a custom intro for my childs birthday party. (My daughter by the way is 11 months now, so she won't be having birthday parties in the home theatre for some time, but I was thinking it might be neat)

MikeRich
08-17-06, 04:33 PM
please count me in as well. let me know what I need to do to add my name to the list.

mheadroom
08-17-06, 04:43 PM
Roar,

That's a great idea.

Here's an arbitrary guideline. Each person can have their theater name plus about 30 words to be used as you see fit. If you need a few more that's fine just don't go overboard.

I say we limit this to 16 people or Aug 31st, which ever comes first. With 16 people the cost is about $20.

Once we reach the 31st or 16 people I will get the final quote for the project and determine the exact cost for each person.

How does this sound?

actionPlant
08-17-06, 06:35 PM

Thought of another one everyone might like

"Now Sit Back, Relax, & Enjoy the Show"

pgervais

I suggested "Enjoy these previews" yesterday but a better way to word it for everyone might be

"Coming soon to the X Theater" or something along those lines

R_Willis

...if you want to get even more people in, you could have him do some sounds for home automation stuff too.... He could do them in a more mono-tone serious voice.

-car in driveway
-mail has arrived
-somone rang the doorbell
-phone is ringing
-laundry is done
-take out the trash today
-alarm has been set
-all lights off
-all lights on
-.....and on....and on....and on....

Many people use voice announcements in their home-automation systems.

Just an idea I figured I'd throw out.

latntekky
08-18-06, 09:42 AM
IM SO IN ON THIS.
i was actually looking at a generic voiceover cd on the net.
This is much better due to the custom announcements.
best 20$ ill ever spend.

mheadroom
08-18-06, 10:43 AM
The autpomation idea is kinda neat. Is anyone on the list interested in this too? If so we can add it and see what it does to the price. Right now we're looking at about $20-$30 per person and only a few more spots left.

If fill the spots I amy try and move the read up to Aug 25th. Would this work for everyone or would the 7th be better?

I'm goiog to start adding peoples custom reads to the listed script. Anyone have a problem with that?

This will ensure I have everyones lines listed when I send the final script.

pgervais

Two Questions Max:

1. Is he going to read "Welcome to the X Theater" for each of us or are we going to have to piece together the name of our Theater with the "Welcome" phrase?
If we have to piece it together then you need to change it from "Welcome to" to "Welcome to the" so we can piece it together correctly.

2. I don't know about everyone else but I hate the pronunciation of "Theater" where people include the "a" and stretch it to 3 syllables. To me it should be 2 syllables and pronounced with a "e" just like "be". What does everyone think?

Sooner works for me. I will be working on my lines and have them to you by Sunday night. Thanks for putting this together Max.

mheadroom
08-18-06, 11:44 PM
T agree. Theater is theater no thee-a-tor. If someone does not complain we will go with theater.

Everyone is allowed up 30 customized word plus a reading of just thier theater name. I you don't want to piece an into together you can use the into with the name as part of the 30 words. Everyone will still get the generic stuff too incase they want to piece it together.

Finally, since we have 18 ppl now, I am going to close the list on Saturday @ 11:59pm EDT

The list will close at 11:59 pm EDT on Aug 18!

I will then contact everyone via PM with final details.

Max,
If you add home automation are you going to get another hour like you suggested earlier? I noticed you added some sports names and if you need to fill another hour you could do all of the football and baseball team names for us to piece together.
-Pete

mason
08-19-06, 01:29 PM
Actually, the sport's words are from my list. I host a lot of parties for sporting events and will use them as intro's etc. I tried to think of the top 30 or so words that were related and that I could use to piece together into various intro's.

I'm also all for adding team names etc. if the rest of the group is interested.

mheadroom
08-19-06, 02:23 PM
I'm looking for feedback on the automation and sports. personally I have no use for the sport thing except for the superbowl but it there is enough intrest then we can add it.

I don't want top rasie the price if we don't need to. Also we can always do another disc in the future with the same narrator. Maybe have a few verisons for different audiences.

mason
08-19-06, 03:15 PM
Between my theater name, the generic theater words, etc, and the sports related words that I added from my list, I'm fine. I could always use more (team names etc) but that's up to the rest of the group.

Also, I don't really understand how people are planning to use the home automation stuff. Can someone explain that to me.

R_Willis
08-19-06, 03:27 PM
Also, I don't really understand how people are planning to use the home automation stuff. Can someone explain that to me.

Most people that have home-automation systems have a whole-house audio system plus their dedicated theater area.

When a certain thing happens (usually a sensor of some kind is tripped) it can trigger the automation system to do something, such as play a sound.

So, say a car drives over your driveway sensor (http://www.hometech.com/brains/probes.html#PT-CP2100), it alerts the automation system, and it plays a custom .wav/.mp3 over your whole-house audio system saying "Car in driveway".

Or, say you have a mailbox sensor (http://www.smarthome.com/74661.HTML) for when your mail arrives. The sensor trips the automation system, and plays a file that says "Your mail has arrived.."

..and the possibilities are endless.....

Hope this helps explain the idea to you mason.

As far as software goes I use Sound forge for editing and then I'm going to have the narrations play directly in my customized trailer. This is can be played back on my htpc or via dvd.

You can have about 30 words of custom stuff plaus a read of you theater's name. This allows you to createa alot of narrations by editing you name and the generics, as well as a few custom lines incase you want something specific.(names, saying, etc.)

It should bring the price down.

The original quote was based on a pretty long script.

mheadroom
08-21-06, 10:45 PM
So here's a status update.

Only about an hour and a half left for submission of custom lines.

I have incorporated all the custom lines that I have received so far. If you don't see your lines in there drop me an email. You have until 11:59pm EDT tonight to get your lines in.

I will be sending the script for a requote in the morning.

This will go one of 2 ways.

1.The price will be perfect and we'll preceed

2.The price will come back too high.

In this case, I will cull down the script without effecting your ability to use the disc.

For example, almost everyone asked for "Welcome to the XYZ theater" We don't really need those since we already have a theater name read and a "welcome to" read. Just put those togehter and wahla! The same goes for the 100 different ways we are telling people to turn off thier cells =)

Like I said, if the price is right then we'll proceed with what we have.

I recieved the revised quote today and the price went up pretty drasticly. I am currently waiting for a response to request for a requote.

In the meantime i have contacted a couple of other narrators. One of the narrators, Bob, just did a dry run of a couple of lines. If you guys like his read we can use him and the price will be less than $30 shipped.

I am awaiting a couple other quotes also. Check the original post. I'll post as I have more info.

Originally it was assumed that with 11 people the cost would be $30 + 6.

Since we have so many people the price was going to go down quite a bit, but the new quote came back much higher. So the cost only went down $1 per person.

That's why i was looking at different narrators. A $10/person drop in price is pretty significant overall but everyone seems to agree that $25 or $35 doesn't matter.

I guesss I'm just cheap. :D

The account exec is actually being very helpful. She said it was her own fault because she didn't realize how many pages there were when she quoted the first script.

She is discussing the situation with the narrator and seeing if he will do the job for the original price.

She also offered some other narrators but none were as good as what we already have.

I'm going to post the 3 narrator in the op in a few min.

I'm assuming most people are using a movie program to create a intro and assembling the sound clips in the movie program.
I have a Apple and am using iMovie and Final Cut Express to make my intro. Just have to cut and paste the sound clips in the right places, throw in some background music and it's done!

mheadroom
08-23-06, 10:18 PM
There are a number of places that will put together a customized intro for you. You might want to ask if they can ad your custom audio while they are at it. Reaper is giving away a 3d file that you can render yourself. That might also be an option.

there are a ton of video and audio softwares on the market ranging from free to thousands of dollars. You might want to look around.

I use Goldwave for editing. I believe it's a free download and I have no ties with the folks who make it, so hopefully it's okay to post here. I've been using it for years, I used to do a lot of PSA's and radio commercials and Goldwave has been a lifesaver. If you need to mix your voiceover with music, Hitsquad's website has a lot of freeware and shareware, try some things out and figure out what you like best.

The simplest approach I have is using Goldwave to piece together the words I want into phrases, throw it into a multitrack sequencer like FruityTracks, output to a wave and add the wave to my theater intro video in something like Windows Movie Maker. Or, use Goldwave and Multisequence to mix multiple audio AND video tracks. YMMV.

OK, I don't mean to judge, but some of these lines are pretty corny.

Some of my favorites...

- It's hotter than hot. It's Hot ta!
- We're green. Super Green.
- Movies are better than ever.
- Please drive without the lights on until you reach the exit
- Visit us often and enjoy the screen attractions in the comfort of you own car. (Does someone actually have a drive-in?)
- While waiting for the movie enjoy Fresh STEAMED HOTDOGS. mmmmmm

Although I don't have any kids, this one is my favorite.
- Please stay seated during the movie and keep your hands off my daughter.

Don't take this personally guys, I am just excited to get my CD and have nothing better to do.

hmmm. What does everyone think about that? Since we all paid to have the disc made what does everyone think we should do? I'd love to hear peoples opinions.

Durring the read I will ask the exact terms of distribution. This is what i do know:
1. No broadcast (TV, Radio)
2. Not allowed to sell it in stores

I wouldn't personally mind selling it to forum members for a nominal fee but I would want the participants blessing first.

When I was originnaly just going to do the read myself, I had thought I might sell the disc to recoup costs but since I ended up setting this up as a "power buy" of sorts, I really want the participants approval before going down that road.

My 2 cents on 'selling' the generic version of it... you did a lot of leg work on this one Jason and as far as my 1/30th (Or however many people ended up in on this deal) of a vote would go, you can do what you wish with the lot of it, thanks for organizing.

The read went well. Ended up using excatly an hour. I'm working on breaking up the files but there's a lot of them ;) I put a demo on the original post so you can hear how he sounded. I had him read a bit higher than the original sample becasue I think it sounds better.

Oh and I found out some more about the narrator. I guess he's the voice for the Fox News Channel and did the voice over for Being John Malkovich. I was pretty psyched to hear that. BJM is one of my favorite movies :D

I am not sure if I have already expressed my opinion but go ahead and make a million off of these discs. You did a lot of ground work to make this possible. I am glad that we had such a large interest as there are a lot of lines that I would never have thought of and our fellow AVS'ers all pitched in.

Funny you should say that. Right after we had completed the read, one of my friends asked if there was any themed stuff on the disc.

We went into an hour long brainstorm of how you could go with movie night themes like an old school gross out blood bath horror movie night with lines like:
"barf bags can be found at the concession stand"

could do action, love, horror, comedy, halloween, ney years etc. So as we were thinking about this i figured I might explore this as maybe another read in a month or so if there was intrest. I just have to get these cds done and get some feedback first.

Plus the second read will allow for variations of some of the stuff we already have.

I'm going to see if there is any intrest first.

Sorry I missed out on this one. If there is any left overs up for sale let me know.

The raw 48Khz WAVs total about 300MB. This includes the original uneditied files and the split files. I'll archive them with rar and provide par files just incase.

I will be sending out the CDs hopefully tomorrow or tuesday at the latest. If you would rather download the files just drop me a line at htvoiceover@gmail.com and I will replay later tonight with how to access the files..

Awesome idea!

I never saw the thread until today and obviously have missed out but I would be interested in getting the generic copy as well as participating in round two (should you have interest!)

The themed idea sounds interesting.

We went way overboard with Halloween last year and I took a series of various spooky sound clips and piped it over the whole house audio (including outside). We were the hit of the neighborhood! It would be fun to include some voice over lines in with it too!

Just to let everyone know,

There are 2 folders on the disc.

1. Contains a couple of music beds with VO added into them. Most of these files have enough room for you to add your welcome message or something. I would love to be able to give you the blank track but I leaglly can't that's why i mixed in the music.

2. The words "welcome to" and then your theater names so that you can use them right away.

I was hoping to do more but I'm really burnt out right now :D

As you play with these discs right down any issues you might have or things you might want. I'm hoping to do another read in about a month and we might as well use that time to iron out any bugs.

Jason,

What are "par" files?

-- Martin

mheadroom
09-02-06, 05:41 AM
from par2.net:

What is a PAR file?
Parchive parity files (or par files for short) create redundant data that can be used later in case parts of the original data is lost or corrupted. Par files allow file level recovery of data. That is, out of a group of many files, if a limited number of files are lost or corrupted, they can be recovered. These files will have the extensions of .par, .p01, .p02 etc.

So basicly, they allow you to take a file that is corrupt and repair it without having to redownload the whole thing. Knida like raid 5 for archive files.

I downloaded the files and they sound great. As I was playing with them, my 3 year old walked into my study and started jumping up and down yelling "The man said my name!!!".

Priceless.

I am a little bit confused by the rar breakdowns though--- does winrar bring up all files in all parts of the archive when you double click on any one part?

mheadroom
09-02-06, 10:33 PM
It brings up all the files. RAR's just a better compression then zip. The multi parts just make it easier to download. When you open part 1 all the files across all the parts are shown.

The PAR files are used to recover missing or corrupt RAR segements.

oh and that is priceless :)

Robbo
09-02-06, 11:14 PM
OK-- just used Audicity to append the "Welcome to my ABC Theater" clip to a MP3 I had of the Fox Fanfare (I used "normalize" to get the audio on the sound clip roughly equal to the levels of the Fanfare. Then used BeSweet to convert to an AC3 (could only get it to do 2-channel though), used AVI Mux Gui to mux the AC3 to my Reaper/blender "Welcome to" Fox redering AVI file, and finally used Sonic DVD Creator to add a fade to black and burn onto DVD. Looks and sounds like a charm. I had previously used AVI to DVD to create a DVD of the muxed AVI, but the lack of fade to black made it look unprofessional.

I couldn't figure out how to add additional sound clips in via Sonic, but I think I will end up just playing the other WAV files via my Sonos box connected to my HT receiver--- I'll just whip up custom playlists of clips to suit the occasion -- much less time consuming than burning CDs/DVDs to cover all possibilities.

By the way, I really liked the bedded "Pinkhat" refreshments intro and the "Doom" feature presentation intros.

Thanks again for pulling all this together.

Jason,

I'd like the CD as originally planned please. I've never dealt with PAR files and really don't have the time to investigate and deal with it right now. I realize that it won't be mailed until Tuesday. That is fine.

That said, I am confused as to exactly what it is I will be receiving with regard to the sound file "format". I understand that they will be wav files, but will all of the clips include background music now too? Or, are we getting a mix of just the voice files (no music) AND the same voice files with background music?

Thanks!

Mark

mheadroom

The cd contains few different things really:

1. The original unedit takes from the read
2. The lines cut up into individual files
3. 9 Music tracks with "and now our feature presentation" mixed in near the end
4. 1 Music track with "Fasten your seat belts, and prepare..." mixed in near the end
5. 1 Music track with a generic concessions read mixed in

The music tracks are just a bonus that I included because a number of people were asking about music.

The tracks with the narration near the end should give you enough time to add in "Welcome to XYZ theater" or something else along those lines.

Sample Intro Video (low quality) (http://www.nuclearcrayon.net/~htmlmecca/newhouse/hometheater/intro_rated_r.wmv) 1.2mb WMV
the clicks, pops and static are from converting it to wmv at low quality. its fine in the mpg2 file

A Funny Story.

So I've been burning the discs, putting them in a DVD case and stuffing them into padded envelopes.

I stuffed the last envelope when I look up at my computer and it's asking me for a blank disc. This means that i accidently stuffed one of the envelopes with a blank.

Now, I'm not going to risk sending out a blank disc to anyone so I begin by opening some packages.

Last 5 packages, all good
First 5, all good
Middle 10, all good

So i just start opening the rest randomly. I get down to the final 3 and start wondering if I made a mistake early on and set nero to burn to many discs.

3rd to last, all good
2nd to last, all good

last disc...Blank

1 out of 30 shot of finding a blank disc and I find it on the 30th try.

JoshEvangel

I have two CDs of "The Show starts in 45 minutes" which I bought online. The first one is the main disc and the second is the companion disc. The tracks are 8 diff. countdown in minutes including an intermission, entre act and walk out music. The companion discs are the same except that each countdown is divided into themes like foreign, comedy, action and drama. I just like the scoring on that doom freebie, complements my reaper-made intro perfectly. Unfortunately, I can't justify spending $249 just to get the doom track.

By the way, the intro that I made starts with the voiceover behind a blank background and then as soon at it finishes, the intro that reaper made will kick in. I layered it with jason's doom track, edited it to make it a lil bit longer. Keep in mind when you edit your voiceover intro, it is necessary to add 3 or 2 seconds delay in between the sentence/lines so that the transition is easier to imagine and the audience have a better feel and comprehension of what the announcer is trying to impart. Gives us a more cinematic and exciting experience!

Josh....

I have the first CD (which I love) but can't seem to locate the companion disc; where did you find it? Do you have the ISBN number handy?

thanks

I just PM'ed you the site on where to buy the companion disc. Even Toby's tunes website doesn't have it. It's 21.95 dollars for the disc.

mheadroom,

I've received my CD and have played around with it a bit. Great job!

I just want to thank you for all of the work you put into this. I'm sure that editing the read and creating each of the folders took some effort, and I am grateful for your efforts.

Jason,

I received my CD yesterday. Wow... this is better than I expected! For some reason, I was expecting a couple of larger files with lots of custom phrases in one long file. I extremely pleased that they've been broken down to individual files! Very nice and they sound GREAT!!

My thanks again for putting this together! I plan to spend some time this weekend using Photoshop and Apple's iMovie to put together a short title video (in widescreen, of course) to go along with some music and my custom voice intro.

It continues to amaze me what people are doing on AVS, particularly here in the "Accessories" forum.

mheadroom, you're demo sounds fantastic! Great idea. Let us know how we can contribute, etc...

Glad everyone likes the CD. If you find anything that's missing or something that should be reread, write it down. When we do the next disc we can resolve issues then.

Robert, The accessories forum always seems to be rock'n. It seems that because there are less posters here, it's a tighter knit bunch and the creative minds are always flowing. Especially when peoples are talking about low/no budget projects. :D

I edited together a little something to put on my iPod for playback in my little red roadster when I'm giving someone a ride: "Welcome. Please sit back, fasten your seat belt, and prepare yourself for an unbelievable ride!"

Jason,
Thanks for the disc. My custom phrases sound great! You did a awesome job getting standard words so we can piece together all kinds of sayings. I'm going to do some chopping up and reassembling to make some cool new phrases.
Now just need to finish my intro and put it all together. That should keep me busy for awhile.

I got my download of the info. Awesome idea. I've been playing it for people all over the place, at work, at home, etc. Love it! I am even thinking of buying one of these to have it play when people enter the theater:

Maybe there is something better out there, but it might be fun to try. Thanks again! Very cool!

Receieved mine in the mail today.. All I can say is WOW!!!!

Excellent job, Please let me know when your doing another one
so I can get a custom title done....

I plan on using some with my Ocelot and Speakeasy system. The
WOW factor of having it say "Welcome to Lumpy's Home Theater!"
as I swing open the french doors would be so cool.

Also the Home Automation voice overs was another unexpected
bonus.

Hey guys.

just wanted to show a quick sample intro i put together using the voice overs.
I had some friends over at the time and they were wicked impressed by the voice over.

Sample Intro Video (low quality) (http://www.nuclearcrayon.net/~htmlmecca/newhouse/hometheater/intro_rated_r.wmv) 1.2mb WMV
the clicks, pops and static are from converting it to wmv at low quality. its fine in the mpg2 file

the video came from inflixht.com (free download)
put it all together in vegas studio
That is so pimp! :D

I know you're probably still making sure everyone who paid got theirs. Have you decided if you're going to do something for us other AVS members? Small fee? A download? CD Waterfall? Torrent-File?

Just curious.

Mschiff - I only sent cds to those who didn't download. THe downloaders shipping fees went to hosting.

TheSpoon and Midlife - Check PM

Fredpamm - I'm looking to do another round of different generics and more custom stuff in a month or so. I'll open the list after everyone gets their cds

I'm already compiling a list of things I'd like to see said. For instance, it might be nice to have him say things like:

"This theater features [surround sound] audio provided by <list of 10 million audio companies>" or
"With Video/Picture by <insert list of 10 million Video Display companies"

Things like that. Plus I think I changed the darn name of the theater yet again. :)

I did spend about 2 hours splicing some things together last night. It doesn't sound exactly right due to inflection and having to take snippets of other people's theater names to put it together... but it's still pretty DAMN COOL if you ask me. :) Sound Forge 8 is your friend!

Thanks again, Jason!!! Best $20+ bucks I ever spent!

Mheadroom -

Just a question...maybe I missed it and it is buried somewhere in here...

Can you tell us anything more about the guy that did the voiceover?...There is a GEICO commercial where they have an announcer standing in the kitchen. It would be cool to tell your friends, "Yeah, it's the same guy that did the voice for....."

I finally found some time to edit together the audio portion of my intended custom voiceover. I used Amadeus II (Mac sound editor) to splice together the various segments to create the voice track and then brought that into Apple's iMovie HD to mix it with a musical score. Ultimately, I will eventually add some video or slide show (I'm already talking to a graphics artist friend about a custom Booth Bijou logo). But, for now, I'm simply going to use it with a black screen (audio only). Anyway, here's what I came up with (mp3 audio minus any video):

BTW, if anyone is looking for really custom intros, i.e. specifically produced intros that say what you want them to say and all that, let me know. I have a friend who does audio production and commercial voice over and such (ex radio DJ), and has a full digital production studio of his own. He's interested in making a little money on the side, and I've mentioned this to him as an option and he'd like to see what kind of business he could rustle up in this area.

Basically he'd be looking to set up a kind of menu of basic introduction styles, and then you just tell him the text you'd like and which one of the styles you'd like to put it over (meaning what type of background effects and overall style of the intro, i.e. bombastic, low key, spacey stereo effects or something spare and minimalistic and so forth.)

* He could of course do fully custom ones, not based on an existing template. You'd just have to negotiate for what you want and how much it would cost.

I've given him some text to do a sample one for folks to hear and get a feel for what it could be like. He'll get this done in a week or so. Anyway, let me know if you are interested.

Dean,

My personal feeling is that your friend's offer belongs in a thread of its own, rather than "hijacking" this thread. So, I hope you will start a brand new thread when you get those samples to share.

Just my two cents.

Regarding the sample I posted... I received a private message asking about the background music. It's a 30 second track titled "Movie Magic". I've had it on my hard drive for over a year. I downloaded it from some site, but I honestly don't remember where. I just remember stumbling across it and saving it to my hard drive for future use. I knew way back then that it might make for a nice background score. Who knew that I'd eventually be able to use it for this.

Mark

Dean, what was not custom about these intros? They did say what people wanted them to say. That was the whole point.

Anyhow, it will be ineresting to see what he wants to charge and the range of his voice.

Dean Roddey

Maybe I got this confused with another thread of a similar sort, but I thought it was a set of pre-fab fragments that could be combined or something? I wasn't trying to hijack the thread or anything, just offering another option which I have no financial stake in, and assumed it was relevant because I thought this scenario was just providing something different.

mheadroom
09-17-06, 11:26 PM
dean,

No problem.

This thread was about us all having custom lines read for a voiceover. There were about 30 participants.

That's how Mark was about to get "Welcome to the Booth Bijou" and "Mark and Kathy are proud to present..."

Everyone got their own lines read plus a whole list of other things to be used with their custom lines. The cost for everything was $27 shipped.

Read the original post for more info.

We are going to be doing another read with the same guy sometime in the next month or so. That way people who missed out will have a chance to get some custom stuff too. Again we will also be including some differnent generic lines as well as any words we feel need to be reread with a different tone or inflection.

Dean Roddey
09-18-06, 12:16 AM
Oh OK. Jack's would definitely be more expensive than that, more in the $250 range, since he'd actually be doing both the voice over and the audio production on them and tweaking each one separately in order to have the music and effects fit the flow and length of the spoken text and have the bangs and booms and swishes and whatnot in the right places and so forth, and coming up with original music and effects for the backgrounds probably. So definitely different beasts.

I "re-mastered" my Fox-style intro to include several of the sound clips. It now opens with a black screen and our announcer saying: ladies and gentlemen, please take your seats.... tonight's presentation is so impressive you'll wonder why we didn't charge admission", then the Fox Fanfare and the announcer saying Welcome to my Theater followed by a fade to black and the pinkhat bedded track. All comes together very coolly and even my wife was impressed.

I also set up a playlist on my Sonos for pre-movie containing about 20 movie themes (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Godfather, James Bond, etc.) and dropped into the playlist a dozen voice clips (in case of emergency, reserve this theater, the show starts in 5, no talking, no cell phones, fresh steamed hot dogs :) , etc). I set the playlist on shuffle and get random music and voice overs.

Finally, I made a good bye clip, thanking everyone for coming, telling them to grab their belongings and head for the exit and advising them that they can't stay here :) ).

I can't wait to hear the next disc....

Dean,
This one was a Lot more as well, thats why it took 30 of us to pay for it.
