Okay I just bought a HD-A1 and the remote is the worst piece of crap I've ever seen. Anyone know if the Toshiba HD-XA1 remote (SE-R0200) will work on an A1 player and what the cost would be?

I've used my XA1 control on a A1. No problems. No idea of the cost though.

The backlit XA1 remote from Toshiba is available 800-421-5080. the part # is P000464150 for $50.49 and $10 shipping. I would personally recommend that you buy a universal remote like the ones offered by Harmony. Much better use of your money.

Yeah, for $60, a Harmony remote costing a little more would be a much better value.

But, at the risk of being banned from AVS or receiving death threats . . . . . I have to admit I really like the XA1 remote - heavy, solid, niced brushed aluminum look - and it even works well. :p

I've had a few real A/V enthuiasts say to me they like the HD XA1 remote. Personally I like the RCA remote better, but I would spend the money for a Harmony if I was buying one.

I'd be glad to sell you my RCA remote for $50 plus shipping. While it might be nicer than the A1, it is still a piece of junk compared to the Harmony. They would have been better off knocking $10 off the price of the player and letting us buy our own. :D

Th correct Toshiba Part # is P000461440 for the backlit remote. The cost is $57.00 + $9.00 shipping. It can be had from Andrews Electronics at (800) 274-4666. The info given previously will only get you another SE-R0237 that comes with the HD-A1.

The two remotes (A1 and XA1) are identical except for the backlight... they both are very cheap in my eyes. I have one of each collecting dust.

Quick question...may be dumb... Okay i just ordered a hd-a1 toshiba on ebay. Doesn't come with the remote. I need the remote to get into the menu to adjust the HDMI settings...If i buy the harmony can i get into the dvd settings menu to adjust this? DVD player will arrive tomorrow and i will NEED to have the optimal settings when I get my first impression. You guys are high on the harmony and i was convinced to buy it...just want to make sure i can access all features. Also what model harmony do you guys recommend? all compusas in california are going out of business and they have a variety 30% off. i know 890 would be best but what is the best value or the cheapest to access all HD-A1 features.
