Toshiba Model: 42HP16

As most of you might have read my problems with my Vizio L42, I might be returning it tomorrow for this Toshiba Plasma. I was just wondering if anyone has seen this, own this, or can recommend this tv. I had a Toshiba 32" Tube before I switched to Flat Panel, so I feel a little comfortable exchanging for it. Please info!

Anyone? Or can anyone recommend Toshiba in general for Plasma?

I haven't seen this model yet, but it looks like that this is a new model at Costco, along with the 50HP16 together. It is my understanding that this year Toshiba plasmas are missing half the features found from the last year HP95 models, like CableCard reader. They are being made by Orion (Sansui) in Thailand with a LG panel screen. You can find out more about this TV and its similar models by viewing this thread at:

Ok, so I just picked this one up. I have a question, I've turned down the brightness and contrast considerably, could I still get burn in? I have noticed after watching a little INHD last night, the logo was faintly left on the screen, but soon disappeared when I switched to a new program. It has a White Screen feature, should I use that after every use while I'm breaking it in? and how long should I run it?

BTW, football is coming up and this is really going to bug me if I can't watch any of it in fear of burn in. Also I like to play alot of Madden, same thing.

Ok, so I'm really digging this set.

Somethings I'm liking

1. The picture quality is nice after some setting changes. The black levels are amazing also. (Right now I'm breaking it in, so my contrast/brightness are a lot lower than standard)
2. The settings, there are so many and they actually work.
3. All the inputs, soon I'll be getting the HD-DVD player, or adapter for the Xbox 360.
4. The image retention I had earlier, isn't really a problem. I haven't had plasma before, so I overreacted.
5. The overall design of the exterior on this set is amazing.

I'll find more things to post later. Well worth my money imo.

I just purchased one of these (40HP16) from my local 'Sams Club' and I love the picture!!

I have some basic questions...

One: What is this talk about a break in time?
Two: Is it the DVD player or the set that should set the screen format size from a DVD? And should it be automatically set or do I have to do it manually on every disc?
(aka: AKA it seems that 'IF' I leave the setting at natural I never get a full screen DVD?)
Three: SD / 480i images from broadcast and direct SVideo input from my DirecTV receiver seem to have a lot of.... pixelation?.... as my wife calls it "sparkles in the image" that she did not see on the old 32" tube set

:Bump:

And a new question:

Has anybody tried the VIDEO out jacks on the set?

Should they downconvert to a 'SD' 480i signal?
Well really my 'OUT JACKS' don't seem to be working at all??
But all the input settings were of 480p or higher..
