View Full Version : Deals on HD-DVDs
Vasim Pathan 08-23-06, 04:39 PM FYI..
If you have a Fry's nearby check out their HD-DVD selection. they routinely go on sale for $14.99. Picked up 4 titles for that price. New release are $19.
svalley 08-23-06, 04:47 PM Anything on sale today or this week?
mpalmer7 08-23-06, 04:51 PM I haven't seen anything on sale this week. A couple of weeks ago it was Constantine and Dukes but I haven't seen any great deals since. If someone knows, I would love to check it out before I make the drive (would love Sleepy Hollow to drop in price)
Vasim Pathan 08-23-06, 05:34 PM fugitive, constantine, last sam, dukes,
them seem to rotate the selection.
DrCrawn 08-23-06, 07:50 PM The Fry's in Renton, Wa has most discs for 24.99, no deals at all....you are lucky at your store. I do miss shopping at Fry's in California. You can almost throw a rock from store to store. :p
You can almost throw a rock from store to store.
You must have a good arm. :)
I check the Fry's in Fountain Valley occasionally but haven't seen a deal yet.
RojasTKD 08-24-06, 12:14 AM Dang, I have never her of Fry's untill it was mentioned on this forum. Don't think there are any in FL at least not in South Florida.
PooperScooper 08-24-06, 09:26 AM Dang, I have never her of Fry's untill it was mentioned on this forum. Don't think there are any in FL at least not in South Florida. Fry's is west coast still, I believe. I was surprised to see someone mention WA. I miss the business trips to the west coast and the mandatory trips to Fry's. :)
larry
We have one in Duluth, GA.
William 08-24-06, 12:23 PM We have one in Duluth, GA.
...but I live near Vinings. :( I hear we are getting one near Roswell. Hopefully the Smyrna area won't be far behind.
mpalmer7 08-24-06, 02:10 PM It is great having a Frys near me, especially since Best Buy is getting flakey in what they are carrying now. Frys has everything. Tomorrow is when the new ad comes out, so hopefully it will be something new.
DrCrawn, I also shop at the Renton Frys as I live on the Eastside. Good to see Puget Sound representing HDDVD.
No Frys near me either but we do have a Shakey's. ;)
Vasim Pathan 08-24-06, 04:08 PM POTO and Fug are 19.99, most of these should go on sale friday. I picked upt AFlux and serenity for 24.99 as these two disc never go on sale.
zman5225 08-24-06, 04:33 PM Fry's here in Phx had all theirs marked for MSRP on the box. They do have sales every once in a while that i've seen.
I'll have to keep my eyes peeled, and maybe post them.
digital demon 08-25-06, 12:19 AM Amazon has a special deal going on HD discs. Purchase any 3 HD discs in your cart, and get 10% off that order, plus get 10% off all additional HD discs for a full YEAR!
BMarczak 08-25-06, 05:01 AM No Frys near me either but we do have a Shakey's. ;)
Hmm.....Shakey's Pizza.....<drool> :D
I love Shakey's. Remember going there to play Pong when I was growing up.
BMarczak 08-25-06, 05:03 AM Amazon has a special deal going on HD discs. Purchase any 3 HD discs in your cart, and get 10% off that order, plus get 10% off all additional HD discs for a full YEAR!
Yeah, I bought three in one order to get that discount. Unfortunately the discs I ordered are all 'ships in 6-8 days' instead of the normal 24 hour turn-around. Have to wait for those to ship before I get that 10% credit and do pre-orders for the upcoming releases.
There is a Fry's in Downers Grove, IL just outside of Chicago. It's a huge store.
The first one I visited is in Vegas. They have a nice restaurant in the store and they have one of the best home theater set-ups that I have seen. I always mention it to people.

How do you get this discount. I have 4 in my cart and am all the way to confirm but no 10% discount or 1 year offer. What am I missing? Do I need to enter something in the Promo/claims code box?

Whoa is that site legit? I'd have to get it for that price. Anyone have any experiences with movietyme?
Rob Tomlin 08-27-06, 11:25 PM I've never heard of them. Looks like they are out of Pennsylvania.
Interestingly, the prices on their other HD-DVD's aren't that good (but shipping is included).
William 08-27-06, 11:29 PM Enter the code "HDDISC10" where it asks for any promotional codes that you have during the checkout process.
Thanks, Do I need to keep the code all year or will discounts be automatic? Also after ordering 4 and getting the discount I tried to preorder MI set and Backdraft but it would not take the code.
SirBaron 08-27-06, 11:31 PM Whoa is that site legit? I'd have to get it for that price. Anyone have any experiences with movietyme?
I've had 30 HD-DVD from them, they are good for importers such as i. As it's no custom charges etc.
They are legit, and that price has been up for like 4 days, so if it was a error they should of fixed it by now.
Thanks, Do I need to keep the code all year or will discounts be automatic? Also after ordering 4 and getting the discount I tried to preorder MI set and Backdraft but it would not take the code.
It's all been automatic for me. I preordered 3 disks that are going to be released at the end of september, and I got the discount after a couple days. I've never had to actually use that code, it's always been automatic. Remember that it says that it takes around 72 hours for you to get in their system and be registered as being eligible for the discount.

Rob Tomlin 09-22-06, 11:25 AM $14.99 each in the orange county/LA Fry's ad.
Wow, that's an impressive price. I sure didn't think we would be seeing prices this low on a new format this soon.
Vasim Pathan 09-22-06, 11:42 AM i picked up 2 titles for $14.99 price. Lets see if they have the 30/9 tokyo drift for $19.99 or less.
jmgonzalez 09-23-06, 11:58 AM i picked up 2 titles for $14.99 price. Lets see if they have the 30/9 tokyo drift for $19.99 or less.
I'll buy Drift if it ever hits that price - $35.99 at Amazon is just not good enough.

Check your local newspaper for Fry's ads.
synnyster 09-29-06, 09:57 PM I was at the Austin Fry's last weekend. I looked all over the place to no avail. Not a single HD-DVD in site.
huntaar 09-30-06, 04:51 AM Anyone dealt with this site? They just added quite a few cheap HD DVD's - all under $15.

FlasHBurN 09-30-06, 07:10 AM I ordered Apollo 13 and We Were Soldiers from MJEntertainment last Wednesday, and they shipped on Thursday. I should get the discs today or tomorrow.
The owner mentioned that they plan on having more HD DVDs in the coming weeks.
DaBigKahuna 09-30-06, 08:40 AM Please do let us know how this order goes...
Those sites are fantastic, how much was shipping for both discs?

Their prices are phenomenal. I just ordered Happy Gilmore: $11.99+$1.09 Media Mail shipping = $13.08. If this business turns out to be reputable I can see myself ordering a LOT of HD-DVD from them.

Agreed! However, and I don't mean to look a gift horse in the mouth...
HOW!? HOW is this possible? They surely don't have the sales flow of say, Amazon, that it comes down to turnover rate (ie. sell a TON of movies for LOW profit vs. a few for higher profit)
Are they closeouts? I just am so curious. Then again, if you guys start getting the discs w/o issue, then I guess I don't care how they do it LOL.
Anyway, keep us posted, and good luck! This is cool stuff! :)

mjentertainment has a large presence on Ebay. They seem to originate out of Pennsylvania. They have sold over 37,000 items and have an approval rating of 98.8%.
Do a search on ebay for mjentertainment. They have auctions and an ebay store. I can't link because anything with "ebay" in the link is blocked by avsforums. ????
They also have a zshop at amazon.com.
amazon.com zshop link (http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/ts/my-zshop-expanded-description/S18CXY0WODTMRU/002-6177445-9683208)
They appear legit. A few people have had problems with late shipments, but nothing major. Most are happy with them. They claim that they new merchandise is not bootleg and 100% new region 1 merchandise.
brywalker 09-30-06, 11:43 AM Oh my. This has to be too good to be true. I am soooo ordering from them.
ChrisW6ATV 09-30-06, 01:42 PM There must be something odd going on with Happy Gilmore, because there are a whole bunch of them on Ebay, more than other titles.

DaBigKahuna 09-30-06, 09:02 PM Wow MJ sold out of a few discs quick!

brywalker 09-30-06, 11:17 PM Yeah I just went back after ordering a few and decided I wanted We Were Soldiers.
Gone.

tormond 09-30-06, 11:55 PM I just picked up Goodfellas, POTO, FMJ, and something else (can't remember atm) from Circuit City on Ebaay (Trading Circuit is their user name I think). All in all shipped cost me about $25 total for the 4 flicks. These are "distressed packaging" and my guess is that they are HDDVDs that were purchased by people that thought they were buying DVDs and found out differnt. I will let you know when they get here as to how they look/play. They seem to only sell open box, closeout, broken for parts stuff but I figured that if 2 out of the 4 are in good shape I still got a heck of a deal.

I saw those listings on eBay as well. Some of them were dirt cheap. I believe they had the Hitch BD listed starting at 99 cents and it didn't even get a bid. I prefer to have my movies looking like new so I obviously passed on even bidding on any of those auctions. Regardless, I hope they turn up in great condition for you. Would like to hear exactly what damage is done to them once they arrive. I have a friend who is just getting into HD DVD and he'd probably jump at this chance if the discs themselves are alright.

One of teh interesting things I found is that I only bid a few bucks on them (they started at $2.99) and actually lost the bids on POTO, FMJ, and Goodfellas) but they offered me a "second chance to buy it now" at my highest bid (they seem to have a bunch of copies) so I got em on the cheap that way. Hopefully they will be here by Wednesday or so and I will report back (with Pics if they are mangled horribly) as I like my discs/jackets to be in good shape as well
I just placed an order online with MJ entertainement for some of their 13.99 HD DVDs.
Shipping was only 6.79. I'll you guys know how it works.

Especially since 2 of the 12 listed were actually regular DVD's?
FlasHBurN 10-03-06, 04:42 PM I just got my copies of Apollo 13 and We Were Soldiers from MJEntertainment. They shipped on last Wednesday, so even their Media Mail shipping was pretty quick. Not much to say, other than what I got was exactly the same as I would've gotten from Amazon/Best Buy. Everything is in perfect/new condition.

Wow -- the most I'd seen there in the last week or so was 16 (actual HD-DVDs; use "hd-dvd" as the search term, not "hd" as used in the link a few posts up in this thread). I did read somewhere (DVDTalk?) that they said they'd be restocking with a bigger selection this-week-ish. I'm going to keep an eye on that site! :)

That was me. Their owner told me that it should be in the coming weeks (this was last week), however hours after he said that, they added like 10 titles.
DaBigKahuna 10-03-06, 06:19 PM Wow down to 8 (http://www.mjentertainment.net/shop/index.jsp?op=query&keyword=hd-dvd&sc1=d) hd-dvd's. I placed my order for Serenity and Enter the Dragon on a Sunday...shipped the next day. Can't wait to get these in.
I'll post here if I notice they get more in, everyone else please do the same.
Rob Tomlin 10-03-06, 06:19 PM I'm a little confused about MJEntertainment. Are these "regular" prices, or are they special sale items that were overstocked?
I did manage to order We Were Soldiers before they sold out. Like others, I will be keeping my eye on their site. They are currently down to only 8 titles.
darinp2 10-03-06, 06:36 PM I'm a little confused about MJEntertainment. Are these "regular" prices, or are they special sale items that were overstocked?I'm getting the feeling these are special sale items, like maybe some store (like some Walmarts) decided to get out of selling HD DVDs and sold them to mjentertainment. Or the studios didn't sell all they wanted to stores of some titles and passed those ones on.

My wife ordered one, I'll post when we get it. So far only trouble was she shipped it priority, but they only shipped it media mail. So make sure you don't upgrade shipping you wont get!

Well my MJ order from yesterday is now saying shipped. I'll let you guys know when they arrive.
BTW MJ is down to listing Apollo 13 FMJ and the Fugitive.
I think he's a small retailer that brokers in used and overstocked DVDs. Could be a real find if he is legit. He stockage level though is going to vary dramatically.
dpippel 10-04-06, 01:11 PM I received my copy of Happy Gilmore today. It arrived in a bubble-pack mailer and is COMPLETELY legit. $13.08 shipped. What a fantastic deal. I hope that MJ gets their stock situation beefed up, because I'm ready to spend some more money with them. :D

I just ordered what may have been their last copy of Apollo 13 (it no longer appears in the "hd" search"). Full Metal Jacket and Fugitive are still available.
ShagMan 10-04-06, 02:09 PM Yep, down to FMJ and Fugitive.

Good news, came and was fine. They shipped it first class as well, so she did get the shipping she paid for. :) BTW, they're shipped from PA.

My MJ entertainment arrived from PA today as well. They only had 3 of the 7 in stock so they shipped those and charged my credit card for only the lesser amount.
They had a handwritten note on a invoice that they were O.O.S. and they were only charging me for the movies on hand and they reduced the shipping in half.
Brand new. No problems. Great deal.
12.49 Apollo 13
13.99 Full Metal Jacket
14.99 The Fugitive
2.99 2 day shipping std mail
No Problems, except that everyone else ordered from them at the same time.

Ok well the discs came in today and the discs themselves seem to be in good shape. The cases on the other hand....
FMJ and Goodfellas both have what look to be 3" high by 4" wide cutouts in the plastic that surrounds the case (the plastic that covers the art not the case itself) ut the caseart itself appears to be undamaged.
The PoTO case looks like it had a sticker placed on the front of it and then ripped off leaving most of the sticker backing behind but the plastic on this case is undisturbed.
I will flip thru the discs tonight and report back (as this is the important part) but while I am not happy about the cutouts on the FMJ and GF plastic if the discs are pristine I can live with it. I think with some googone I can fix the PoTO case with no problem back to immaculate.
But for $3 a disc + $6 total shipping I can live with the case problems.
MJ down to The Fugitive.
This site will be worth watching out for in the future. Brand new stuff for under $13.99 and cheap immediate shipping.

BTW, lots of BR left (search BD-DVD). Go figure. ;)
SirDrexl 10-06-06, 05:13 PM No Problems, except that everyone else ordered from them at the same time.
I guess we did. :) I ordered Blazing Saddles and Sky Captain on the 30th of last month. They haven't arrived yet, since I opted for media mail. A day or two later, they were gone from the site.
Someone mentioned something going on with Happy Gilmore; take a look at Amazon Marketplace's prices. Let's just say that Satan (or Little Nicky) might have set the lowest price, since after all it is his number.

Amazon Marketplace doesn't currently differentiate between HD-DVD and SD DVD. Those prices are for the SD DVD, NOT the HD-DVD.

Are you sure they haven't changed it? I looked at all the HD-DVD titles, and Happy Gilmore was the only one that had prices that low. Would the standard DVD of Sleepy Hollow still be around $15 used? Would Caddyshack be around $16 used?
Maybe they've changed the policy, but for some reason HG is still set to show the standard DVD prices.
dpippel 10-06-06, 05:41 PM I doubt they've changed it. Hell, they can't even get their OWN HD-DVD data correct. Just ask yourself what the probability is of someone selling the HD-DVD version of Happy Gilmore for $6.66? Not very likely. You know the old saying, "If sounds too good to be true...". :D
Amazon Marketplace doesn't currently differentiate between HD-DVD and SD DVD. Those prices are for the SD DVD, NOT the HD-DVD.
So you are saying that the title at the top of the page is wrong?
Happy Gilmore (HD DVD) (1996)
Amazon Marketplace certainly does differentiate between HD DVD and SD DVD.
Amazon has two completely separate listings for the DVD and the HD DVD versions of this movie. The listings for $6.66 are definitely for the HD DVD version.
I ordered one three weeks ago when the price was $8.04 and the copy I received looks like an HD DVD to me and it is the same seller that now has it for $6.66.
dpippel 10-06-06, 05:57 PM There are a LOT of things wrong with Amazon's HD-DVD listings, but perhaps they've corrected their problems with Marketplace. As of a few weeks ago they weren't making any distinction between their HD-DVD and SD DVD listings. They were all crammed into one bucket. I find it hard to believe that any seller could be legitimately offering the HD-DVD brand-new and shrink wrapped for $6.66 and still be making a profit.
tormond 10-06-06, 06:36 PM I couldn't find this seller on Ebaay. Do you have a link?
Ok I have watched the first half of FMJ which skipped all over the place until I washed the disc since then no problems at all. Watched the first 45 min or so of Goodfellas and no problems with that one yet. Haven't had a chence to not watch PoTO yet (I couldn't watch it on SD, or on a HD I borrowed from a friend so this one will have to wait till tomorrow when I can listen to it while I play Oblivion or something.

I also got HD-DVD of Happy Gilmore for the same price. I think perhaps, they overestimated the demand for Happy and lot of places must have returned them.

brywalker 10-10-06, 05:27 PM Man, I only ordered 3 titles from MJ. I should have gotten more. Quick shipment. Great seller. Bummer....
DarkKnight2k4 10-11-06, 01:18 PM Just picked up Constantine and Unforgiven from Buy.com. $29.92 with Google Checkout. Can't wait until next week to get more.
DaBigKahuna 10-11-06, 04:27 PM Another good vote for buyer experience with MJ - I received Enter the Dragon and Serenity just fine...
dpippel 10-11-06, 04:44 PM Unfortunately, I just did a search for HD-DVD titles and they have NONE listed on their site now. Zero.
Assayer 10-11-06, 06:19 PM MJ probably picked up a bulk order of clearance material from a store or small chain that was disappointed in next-gen disk sales. I hope they restock, but I'm not holding my breath.

That's probably it. One of the discs I received today had a price sticker that was partially removed.
junglejim9823 10-11-06, 11:01 PM This is a one time deal from Warner Home Video. Subscibe to their newsletter and get 20% off your first online order. I ordered six HD DVD's with standard shipping -cost me $18 per disc.

Rob Tomlin 10-12-06, 12:31 AM I received my copy of We Were Soldiers from MJ Entertainment today. Not bad, $14.09 shipped! :)
Hope they get more of these soon....at the same prices!
DaBigKahuna 10-12-06, 07:38 AM Bestprices.com using the Google checkout option.
For example:
Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick came to $31.95 shipped.
The same thing happened to my Goodfellas disc that I bought from them. The auction listing says that the disc has "distressed packaging" buried in the text. I was very unhappy to receive but left them neutral feedback because they covered themselves with that text. They then had the gall to send me an email reminding me to leave them feedback. It was probably some form email they send out on all their auctions. I wrote them back directly voicing my displeasure over the condition of the cover and in not calling more attention to the condition on the listing and I never heard back from them.

Heh, I just posted about this vendor in the Amazon/DVE-HD thread -- I ordered that plus Riddick a few days ago from them, seems to be the Best Price available on DVE-HD (and Riddick?)!

IMHO if the seller already mentioned it and you don't read it then it's not their fault. I don't think it's fair for you to leave them a neutral feedback. Especially when the purchase price is very low. One always get what they pay for.

Yep, I left em a positive because I got 3 HDDVDs (PoTO, GoodFellas, FMJ) for a grand total of ~$15.50. I knew the cases were assed up (they said so) and the only problems I had was that I had to wash all 3 discs to get them to quit skipping (had fingerprints etc --I shiver as to exactly what some of the etc. was -- )but after that all was good.
RockStrongo 10-12-06, 11:08 AM Can you use it on pre-orders?
CDuniverse AND Bestprices supposedly allows the $10 off for pre-orders.
I used the last google coupon for Pitch Black from one of these places before it came out. I just dont remember which one.

I don't agree. Thier listing did not adequately describe the condition of the package. It is generic wording buried deeply in the very large description listing that they appear to use in many of their HD DVD listings. Is it typical nicks and scratches to the cover? Minor rips or what? They appear to be systematically cutting the plastic covers to remove a label or something. This should have be described completely, imo.
David Susilo 10-12-06, 03:34 PM I don't mean to get too technical but if what you're saying is accepted by law then every ad that says "colour may vary" or "product may not be exactly as shown" should also be illegal.
I'm not talking about the morality of the posted ad, I'm just talking about the legality. And legally the seller is not doing anything wrong.

Who IS talking legality? This was an ebay auction. I'm not calling in Judge Judy or anything. I, as a customer was unhappy with the auction so I left them neutral feedback which I personally felt was appropriate and is within my rights as an ebay member. As a frequent ebay buyer and seller, I think they should have represented the condition of the item based on experience with hundreds of other auctions.
Additionally, as a member of this forum, chose to bring it up in an effort to help other members avoid the same issue with this seller.

I am,
apparently you don't care about legality and only care whether you're satisfied or not regardless the fact that:
1. the seller DID mention the general state of the merchandise
2. you FAILED to read it
All you want is perfection for cheap.
also apparently you get pissy at people who has differing opinion than you.

RockStrongo 10-12-06, 05:30 PM Another strike against Amazon for me (kind of)....I preordered Miami Vice and emailed them to add the 10% off....they added it.
I got an email today though saying that it doesnt qualify and they are removing the discount. They gave me $5 credit for my trouble, but its rather ridiculous.
Dah-Dee 10-12-06, 06:50 PM I missed this. What deal?
BestPrices is participating in the Google 10-off-30 promo and already has a good price (better than Amazon) on DVE-HD. Combined with another title (like their also-comparatively-low-priced Chronicles of Riddick) to get over 30, results, even with shipping, in a much better deal than on Amazon (or, so far, elsewhere). I mentioned it in post #115 of the current thread and also in post #9 of this other thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=735464). I was just being silly in that post you quoted, to lighten things up, but hope this helps! :)

The shipping charges for BestPrice is ridiculous!! I tried pre-ordering DVE and added Charlie Chocolate Factory and the cheapest shipping option was $9.94 for both discs. That negates the google savings :(

I do remember that the first few times I visited their website, added couple things to the cart and went to the checkout page, shipping was high. The last time it dropped by a couple/few dollars for no apparent reason, so I went ahead and placed the order ($33.94 for DVE-HD and Chronicles of Riddick -- I figure $16.97 each is pretty good for those 2 titles, yes?). Maybe you could try again? I see that SirDrexl didn't get reamed on shipping! :)

Well, I'm still stumped! If anybody has any tips for how to avoid, please let me know. I searched for a coupon code to remove the shipping charge, but no luck.
DaBigKahuna 10-12-06, 07:42 PM Hmm...I gues it's based on location. I think there in Cali., I am located in Arizona and shipping was $3.97 for two movies - doable for a neighboring state.

I'm in Virginia, shipping on 2 was (eventually) $5.96.

Hmm, not sure what's up with the shipping; I ordered Constantine + Seabiscuit from them with the Google promo for $29.92 just a few days ago, got free shipping, no sales tax charged. Maybe they ended the free shipping deal? I also see their prices on HD-DVD titles vary more than with some other vendors such as Best Prices, so you have to pick and choose with them more carefully, may be harder to find a deal that works for you there.
The shipping is totally random. I put DVD and another title in my cart, shipping was $9.94. Start over and put DVE plus 2 other movies, and shipping goes down to $8.97. What gives?

Yeah, there was a charge of about $4 for shipping, but the reason I ordered there is because they have Cinderella Man for $5 less than Amazon.

Also signed up for Amazon credit card with 30 dollar discount and preordered King kong for free.
SirDrexl 10-13-06, 07:45 AM Some of the shipping pricing being higher may have something to do with combining a pre-order with a disc that's already out.
DaBigKahuna 10-13-06, 08:33 AM Your on to something, I did notice when I put NACHOOOOO (pre-order) and Unleashed (current release) shipping was $5 and change.
I think there might just be a general variance on shipping too... who knows.
The bottom line is whether you go Bestprices.com or Buy.com with the $10 Google checkout deal where getting some smokin deals. I will enjoy while it lasts.
This is a great thread as I am a froogle shopper. I guess on some things as I am an audio and videophile so I guess there is a contradiciton in there somewhere :D.

Well, like I said a few posts up, the deal at Buy.com depends more on which titles you're ordering; whereas I ordered Grand Prix + Robin Hood for $31.95 at BestPrices, the same 2 titles would be $33.26 at Buy.com (even with free shipping and no sales tax as it's showing me right now). You *can* find 'the best deal' on certain titles there (I feel like I have on certain titles), just need to pick and choose. For other titles (like DVE-HD -- $23.94 at Buy.com before discount, $18.99 at BestPrices), BestPrices is the place to go for the Google promo. :)
Edit: P.S. -- I also agree with SirDrexl on the pre-order apparently affecting shipping cost at BestPrices -- weird!
stevenjw 10-13-06, 10:39 AM Using $10 discount via google checkout at BestPrices.com, I picked up Mission Impossible - Ultimate Missions box-set for $49.97 including US Mail standard shipping to MD for $2.98.

Travisimo 10-13-06, 10:55 AM Does anyone know if the google $10 off deal is good for more than one time at each store?
Yes, you can use it as many times as you want! I think it's only through the end of October though. I don't think the stores themselves even see the discount because their invoices still show the full price. Only your Google invoice shows the $10 off. Also, I think you are charged immediately even on preorder items, so that's something to keep in mind.
stevenjw 10-13-06, 10:58 AM Good to know. This is going to cost me. ;)
Thanks for the quick update.
stevenjw 10-13-06, 12:56 PM Shipping a BestPrices.com is expensive. They do NOT provide a means to combine orders, so two titles released on the same day will result in two separate shipments and full shipping charges. The cheapest (slowest) is $2.98 per title and that's 4-10 day standard USPS media mail. So, if you combine two titles in an order to get over $30, you're going to pay almost $6.00 in shipping. Hence, you've only saved $4 over Amazon. Take another 10% off Amazon and it's nearly a wash. The Mission Impossible box-set seems like the best deal they have since it's cheaper by far and only $2.98 to ship.
I highly recommend www.DVDPriceSearch.com for figuring out the best deals including shipping, etc.

SirDrexl 10-19-06, 08:57 PM I cannot get the free shipping on orders of $25 or more to work on Buy. I tried a couple of times to place an order, but it kept showing shipping each time when I went to check out. I noticed that although a title says it's eligible for free shipping on orders of $25 or more (some just say free shipping), when I add the title to the cart, on the next screen it usually says it's eligible for free shipping on orders of $49 or more.
I managed to find two titles that did say they were eligible with $25 after being added to the cart, but when I went to pay for that order the shipping charge was mandatory again, so I gave up.

Amiable-Akuma 11-17-06, 07:11 PM If you have a local Movie Stop near you - they are now handing out flyers for $5.00 off any HD DVD/BD title until the end of the month. It is limit one coupon per customer, however this is not tracked. So as long as you get more than one flyer or make additional copies of the one flyer they give you (it's just a basic B&W print-out) - then you can use it as many times as you want. Just remember that the promotion/flyer expires at the end of November.
Also, they are now doing a generalized promotion that will last indefinitely where you can trade in any 4 SD DVDs (even cheap-o crap) and get $20 off any SD DVD or HD DVD new release. You can do this as many times as you want and it is encouraged. If the new release is 20 dollars or less, you will simply get it free.
RudyMeister 11-18-06, 02:07 AM Those sounds like a good deal from Movie Stop...but I don't think there's one in Atlanta

You can do this as many times as you want and it is encouraged. If the new release is 20 dollars or less, you will simply get it free. Note that this is still true but that the organization has just recently changed its policy on what you can trade in. You can no longer trade in cheap-o crap on SD DVD but rather, only stuff that comes from major movie studios and/or are rare/desireable. So most anime titles no longer work, for example - but stuff like "3 Ninjas Kick Back" still might.
It's a shame too - I had a ton of Dragon Ball Z episodes, etc I could've gotten rid of, if I had acted faster.
