View Full Version : Make Your Own "FOX" Style Theater Logo
Palmtree 04-25-07, 12:27 PM Alright, I give up. I have been trying for hours to find a site to download the sound to the 20th Century Fox trailer. Most no longer work, or I can't seem to download, but simply play it on the site. Can someone please help me out?
Thanks
PM me about this.
valesaro 07-20-07, 09:57 PM [B]Can ANYONE please help me here! I have successfully rendered and animated this fox-style intro but all i'm left with is 600 JPEGS!! How do I export or save the intro as an AVI?? When I go to "Export" or "Save As"... there is no option to save the animated intro as an AVI movie file. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks. Richard.

Hmmm... which version of Blender are you using?
Actually, this may be the cause of the confusion... you stated this -- "there is no option to save the animated intro as an AVI movie file."
You will need to go back to the rendering process, and re-do this. But, this time, look carefully at the screen where you pick and choose your options for rendering.
To find this screen, you can probably hit F10, -- or you can also click on the "Scene" button (it looks like a mountain landscape).
Once on that screen, look for a section that says "Format." You will probably see an item underneath there that says "JPEG" It is probably next to the "CROP" button. That item ("JPEG") has a drop down arrow. Use this drop down arrow to CHANGE this option from JPEG to AVI CODEC.
Now, sadly, after doing this you will need to re-render the entire thing. Ouch. It will now put a very large AVI file into the directory that currently has all of those individual JPEG files. After it is done, there is no need to export, or even to save. Once the rendering has completely finished, the AVI file will just appear in that same directory.
Hope this is clear.

dnddwilson 07-21-07, 01:16 PM If you have Adobe Premiere, you can render those 600 jpgs into a complete movie.
When you import the first jpg into Premiere, just click the checkbox that says something to the effect of " sequential images" or something like that. It will import all 600 and show it as a single file.
can some upload this for maya instead of blender?

Upload what? I have a ftp site I can post files to.

Maya is the commercial 3D rendering software used by ILM and Pixar, or at least they used to. Can't it load blender's files? Or export from Blender into a format Maya can use?
blazer003 07-25-07, 01:11 PM Hello All! I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up with this thread over the last year and a half. I have spent the last 8 months in Thailand, Cambodia and Bhutan, working on a documentary that will show on PBS sometime later this year, or early next year. I have had pretty limited internet access, and VERY limited time. But I'm back and I've been trying to fire up and get back into the groove of Blender. Watch this thread as I should have time to redo the opening (I lost the finished original at some point.)
Let's just say that some time in the next two weeks it should be up. Hopefully I will be able to offer a little better support this time around.
:edit:
Nevermind, the files posted above, no complete re doing it (all though that doesn't give me quite as much experience. ) But I'll go over it and see if I can fix some things.
In the other thread (Blender projects and..) I posted a download location for the Disney intro made by Magius. This download location contains all the other Blender intro's (Fox, Universal) and supporting files as well.

Dan Woodruff 07-26-07, 12:03 PM Thanks for posting this. It looks great and I'm running the animation process now. Any idea the number of frames when it's completed? It's up to frame 329 and I am just wondering.

Dan Woodruff:
Were you referring to the recent "Disney-based" Blender file? If so, I just checked, and that one states that it has 375 frames, total.
If not, let us know which animation you are referring to (others have been posted earlier in this same thread).

Oh, that is the 20th Century Fox logo. That one is exactly 600 frames, and it has taken some people as long as 28 hours (or more!) to render the entire thing. This depends on the resources (speed? power? memory?) of your PC, of course.
It is 600 frames.

blazer003 07-27-07, 05:19 PM Ok, so while I was gone my hosting went down (which I'm sure many of you noticed). I have fixed the file. After a couple hours of testing the lights to try to figure out what was causeing the flickering, I figured out it wasn't the lights, but the fact that I forgot to turn on auto smooth on some of the objects. It is now turned on, and rendered out the file without any flickers. If the person that is hosting the FOX, Universal and Disney files wants to replace the FOX file with my new one, that would be great and I will go back into my original post and edit the links. Give me your email and I will email it you.
As for the documentary, (I really was only a small part of the actual process, my crew and producer, Robin were absolutely amazing) our primary focus was the religious tensions that are going on in Southern Thailand between the Muslims and Bhudist Traditionalists and other religions. Some of the Muslim factions have become increasingly violent toward other religions, and we investigated some of the events that have taken place, as well as how it relates to the surrounding and nearby countries of Cambodia, Vietnam, and the small country of Bhutan. I won't go into too much detail, but I do want to point out that a large percentage of the Muslim community are just as outraged and frightened by the violence as any other person of any other religion. Please remember that an outspoken and violent minority doesn't speak for an entire group or religion. Ok, I'll step off my soapbox.
:Edit: Almost forgot, the food. It is absolutely delicious, especially if you like spicy curries. I like Masaman Curry, and garlic beef the best. Pad Thai, when done right, is amazing as well. In Bhutan they make a dish called ema daji which is chille peppers and cheese (usually goat cheese),
PS. Whoever made the Disney opening, I'm impressed with your ingenuity on how you did a lot of it.

Hey Den!
Great man I got those files and all is good except for one thing..In the Universal instructions you mention a particular step:
• Back in the Shapes Tab, left click on the bar next to the 1.00 (it should stay at 1.00, but this will add another key frame).
I am using 2.44 and to be honest as slick as the interface looks with its muted greys etc. getting visual feedback from a 'click' is sometimes hard to spot.
Exactly WHERE do you mean?
also, in the same word doc, you talk earlier about warping the text and then after doing that hitting TAB again to exit edit mode and the text going straight again. I am doing that but I rendered the anim out and my text animated without any curve. Looks silly.
Any ideas?

Yes. Once you determine the approximate time you would like the entire thing to run, you can do the math as follows below...
Because the only thing moving at the very end are those searchlights, and because there is no command in the file that tells them to stop their movement, they will just continue to pan until the end.
The default NTSC setup works out to 30 frames per second. Thus, figure each increase of 30 frames will add approximately one second of total time to the finished product. You can check the number of frames per second on that screen that has all of the "Render Settings" on it.
Hope this helps.

Hey TekHousE,
First, let me say that I'm not the one who wrote the instructions. Neither did I make any of the Intro's. That's all other peoples work (see the other Blender threads for more info). I'm just hosting the files.
That being said, you should also know that I do not have very much experience with Blender, so i don't think i'll be able to help you with your problem.
However, you may benefit from another tutorial: http://kahuna.clayton.edu/~jbrooks/

Bruce,
Where in the file would I find a command to stop the animation, if it had one?
I ask because in another Blender project (Disney) I tried to add more frames to extend the time but it still only goes as far as the original end frame setting.
-t
edit: Never mind Bruce, I found the answer and figured I'd post here for anyone else interested....
Within Blender, one of the panels is labeled "Anim/Playback" ( the icon looks like a downward squigly arrow ). Hit that button and you'll see an "end frame" box which has in it the last frame number of the animation. This is where you can change the length of the animation. Remembering, 30 frames = 1 sec.
Hope this helps someone besides myself... :)

PhillipD 07-28-07, 04:59 PM Well I came across this post the other day and I have read the entire thing. THANKS I love this kinda stuff. I had my blender logo up and running in 15mins including DL and install times. Great tutorial! I then moved on to the animated version and had a good working 720x480 with THX logo and sound tracks within a day. I then decided to to a full blowen HD animated copy......ahhh I calculated it to be just over 90hr rendering time WOW! After 13hrs into it while not home my brother in law decided to CTRL ALT DEL LOL and close my program LOL. I did however find 71 frames but I swore I was doing a RAW AVI not a jepg animation. Anyone with any input will closing a RAW AVI still save the individual frames or did I just forget what rendering setting I had used LOL? IF so I can pic up at HD Jepg frame 71.
Thanks again to all who contributed.
Phillip
blazer003 07-29-07, 12:19 AM You should still be able to open the raw AVI and find the frames that were rendered, but now you will need a video editting program to put them together, or I think you can do it in a free program called Virtual Dub, but I've only ever used it for converting, and not things like appending (but I think there is an append AVI command in the file menu.)

Ah sorry mate..my bad. I thought you were the author. I will check out the tuts though. I reckon it is user error..for sure. I just need to learn the program.
PhillipD 07-29-07, 01:03 PM blazer003 thanks it is all good I did infact go back and start at frame 71 and I am now at 251 WOW this will be huge. I am using pinical studio 9 to do the editing so I can just drop in the 600 frames with audio tracks and make and AVI or burn to DVD. I am also toying wtih the idea of putting in a THX logo and "the audiance is listening". Then I got to thinking I could use some VOB files from the THX test disc and have a custom 5.1 THX or DTS test disk? We'll see after the render is complete.

Wallskm 07-29-07, 06:02 PM Could use some help here on my avi file. I've made my animation as an avi raw file. It plays fine under quicktime. In windows media player, it comes out distorted and in black and white. I used AVI-Mux GUI to add the audio to the file. Now, windows media player continues to play the file with the distortion but with the correct audio. Quicktime continues to play the avi correctly but without audio. Tried installing the DiVX codec to no avail however the DViX player plays the video/audio correctly. However, trying to convert avi to dvd will output the same way windows media player did: distorted video with correct audio. How can I convert to DVD what I was seeing from my DiVX player?
Ortolaza 07-30-07, 05:38 PM At the begining of this post, in the Animate section, it says "if u have the latest version of BLender, this file is much better than the old one" but where is the animate file? Where can I download it like the older one?

I should have said this. I'm very new to Blender, but I already had 2.44. But what I really need to know is where to find the output option so I can change it to what you said. Also, I do not kno how to make the camera move the way I wan to so I can have the 20th century fox movement. I need directions on all of this.

thanks. I changed output to AVI RAW, and clicked render animation, but I can't believe it will take THAT LONG! lol
Also, you guys know that little black box that opens up everytime you open Blender? Well, when I first clicked "render animation" earlier today, I minimized both Blender windows except for that little black window. It says:

Checking for installed Python... No installed Python found
Only built-in modules are available. Some scripts may not run."
What does this mean? Will my animation still go good when finishd? I check a couple of the frames when they finished rendering in the preview window, and they looked pretty good.

Where is everyone getting the fixed blender files from? The link in the first post is broken, error 404. Blazer said he fixed the flicker problem and posted the file, but I can't seem to find it. Can someone please help the blind. ;)
Once I start rendering I can not stop it unless I control+alt+del to shut down the program. There must be a command to stop it, right?
Hit ESC(ape). Then rendering stops and you can close the rendering window.
It seems I have the older Reaper Fox intro .blend for download on my site. Could someone point me to where the latest Blazer-.blend can be found? I'd be happy to host that file and the instructions to edit it too...
PS. the Fox AC3 is available for download here too. See my earlier post.
BSpielbauer 07-31-07, 09:48 AM thanks. I changed output to AVI RAW, and clicked render animation, but I can't believe it will take THAT LONG! lol
Ortolaza: Basically, the more details and separate surfaces and shadows in an animation, the longer it will take to do the final rendering. Thus, most projects that have a lot of realistic shadowing and detail" can take a very long time to render. I just did a completely different project which had a section of about 125 frames that took more than 5 minutes PER FRAME to render -- and my PC is fast, and has 4 Gig of Ram and loads of resources available. This is why Pixar (a few years back) boasted that they had more computing power than any single private entity in the world. They needed it for the final rendering of their animations.
Also, you guys know that little black box that opens up everytime you open Blender? Well, when I first clicked "render animation" earlier today, I minimized both Blender windows except for that little black window. It says:

You can usually ignore those "warning" messages. I am no Blender expert, but I believe, from what I have read, that this is the program trying to warn you that you do not have all of the separate available "add-ons" and "patches" that are only required for certain more advanced and very complex types of animation. A lot of these add-ons are known as "Python scripts." This is only important if you have tried to use some of those Python scripts in your animation. This project (like most) does not use them.
Hope this eases your concerns,
-Bruce

NaTeDoGG 07-31-07, 07:44 PM From Blazer's description of what causes the flickering, I modified his original file by making the underlines and the big box the words sit on to have "auto smooth" turned on. This does seem to remove the flickering! Here is the fixed file...
http://www.mediafire.com/?9mgm3jt0j4k
rgroves 08-02-07, 07:46 AM I've got the flickering problem even with Blazer's latest file and Blender 2.44. Any chance someone could email the file NaTeDoGG is talking about? (Dang corporate firewalls block mediafire site). PM me, and I'll give you my email.
I've tried using Blazer's latest file with Blender 2.44 and the flickering is still there (I have not tried to do anything else to the raw AVI file to see if it clears up). I'll try that in the mean time.
It took my 4800+ CPU about 6 hours to render last night. but I'm not sure if I like how the word sit for my intro. "The Groves Cinema" just looks kind of weird, compared to how the original words look. Maybe it's just me, and I need to get used to it first.
Edit - I'm re-rendering it with 2.37a to see if that does in fact clear it up. I just hate that it's going to take another 6-8 hours to re-do it.
NaTeDoGG 08-02-07, 05:24 PM Check your PMs rgroves.
Here is an updated flicker fixed version...
http://www.mediafire.com/?19r1a293x0x
I made a few more things "auto smooth" which fixes a couple other flickers. Now the only problems are that the big box the words sit on has two shadows fall over it that look wrong. Also, the spotlight right under the words flickers a little as it moves back and forth. It would be great to fix these things, but atleast there isn't major flicker. What I want to know is, if I render with the old version will it fix these problems AND the flicker?
rgroves 08-02-07, 09:48 PM Thanks NaTe....It's rendering right now, and I'll know something by morning. I'm not staying up till 3 or 4 am to check it out... LOL
I'm using an optimized version of 2.44 from graphicall.org If that doesn't work, I'll try it with 2.37a.
One thing that I found was if you minimize the render window you will see an increase in render speed.
I rendered 10 frames @ 1280 x 720 and took the average render time with the render window visible and minimized.
render window visible - 124 sec.
render windows minimized - 98 sec.
Doesn't seem like much, but over 600 frames it takes off over 4 hours.
render window visible - 124 sec. x 600 = 20.66 hours
render windows minimized - 98 sec. x 600 = 16.33 hours
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.33 hours
My machine is a P4 3.0ghz with HT and 1.5GB RAM, dual core machines should be even faster.
Hope this helps!! :)
rgroves 08-03-07, 08:35 AM w84no1 - Yea, I noticed that render times are faster if the render windows is minimized. It still takes a good 4 hours to render on my AMD X2 4800+ w/ 2GB RAM and both cores running at 100%. My Laptop C2D 1.8Ghz takes 6 hours to render the same file.
NaTe - I rendered the AVI and it looks great except for the slight flicker on the edges of the platforms. Any way to fix that. (I'm not at the machine I renered on - so can't post screen shots. Also, I can't get to any pic hosts to upload them, if I could - damn work firewalls).
NaTeDoGG 08-03-07, 05:22 PM Which platforms exactly? I have no idea how to use Blender. I can say this... pressing "/" on the numpad toggles between regular view and a view of only the selected items. So press that and you should see the whole drawing. Middle click + drag rotates the view, middle click + ctrl + drag pans the view. Now right click an object to select it. Press F9 to bring up some properties window. Make sure the "auto smooth" button is depressed. Do this to any objects that you find flickering. To return to the nice view of the text, select the text objects holding ctrl, then press "/" on the numpad. Now find the "View" menu and choose something like "front". This resets the view rotation so the text is more easily modified.
I have a E6600 Core2Duo overclocked to 3.2ghz with 2gb PC2 8500 ram. It takes about 9 hours to render for me at 1280x720, window minimized. Make sure you post what resolution you are rendering at if you are quoting render times! Makes a huge difference. I can render 100x56 in just a few minutes. :)
rgroves 08-03-07, 07:47 PM The upper edges of the front left and right platformd holding up the Top row and Middle row of words. EDIT - Ok, The platforms under the top and middle words did not have auto smooth enabled.
I'm going to rerender and see how it comes out. I'll write down my settings for reference.
NaTeDoGG 08-03-07, 08:13 PM Oops, sorry about that. :( I must have forgot to auto smooth those when I did the second blender file.
I do wish we could fix the shadows and flicker of the center spotlight.
rgroves 08-03-07, 08:19 PM I don't have ant flickering from the spotlight (The one at the base of the words). I do have some artifacting that someone else mentioned on either side of that spotlight. It's only there for a few frames and then gone right before the camera passes behind the spotlight way out in front of everything.
I used this program and made my own logo. I must say this is really cool. I loaded the image to my projector so it appears when I turn my projector on. It works perfectly. My only question is the logo looks fuzzy. I have a 720P projector and made the logo in 720P. I used an S video cable to load the logo from my laptop to my projector. I think this may have been thr problem. However, my laptop does not have many outputs. Any suggestions? Possibly this just looks a little soft when blown up on a 92 inch screen.
Ortolaza 08-04-07, 09:53 PM I FINALLY finished my 20th fox animation, but my Windows Media Player can't play it, it either doesn't support the codec or supports the file type. How can I resize the video, I want to upload it onto my youtube account to be able to watch it there. Is there a way to play it in Windows Media Player?
rgroves 08-04-07, 11:39 PM Same here.... Codec not found. I rendered mine in AVI RAW, just like all the rest of my renders, so I'm at a loss.
It might be that the final file is 2.05GB...YIKES!!!
I guess I'll try to render at a lower resolution, this SUCKS!!!
EDIT - OK, I re-rendered it at 720x480 and it plays. The original settings in the file of 1280x???? made it too big to open (at least with Media Player).
The Spotlight on the far right side of the word flickers, I checked it and AutoSmooth was not turned on.
I was also getting this I cant seem to get an animation render without glitches
http://www.arkan.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/FOX-FINAL0107.jpg
Blender 2.42a
And someone suggested turning off the threads while another suggested turning the X and Y to 1. Which one works or is it both that fix the "glitch" above?

RGroves' solution just above this is PROBABLY the reason for your troubles. That output resolution that is punched in with the original file is probably one that Windows' Media Player does not like (especially without a dedicated codec). Try changing the output resolution on the "Render Settings' screen. 720 X 480 should work.
For the record, I have been rendering a lot of projects using the following settings...
AVI Codec (not the same as the AVI Raw which several others used).
720 X 480 (sometimes)
OR:
852 X 480 (a friend suggested I try this, and it also looks terrific in 16 X 9 format.)
aspX = 10
aspY = 11
File format = AVI Codec
Cropping is DE-selected; It should be the lighter shade of color.
Quality = 100
Frames per second = 30 (I am in the US, and using NTSC for video)
RGBA is selected (and not the RGB);
I do not know if these settings are in any way flawed, but the output I have gotten using these settings has worked fine on more than six different PCs, and the .avi files seem to play in Windows Media Center, Nero's software player, Sony's software player, Media Classic, etc.
And, more importantly, I have had no problem converting the .avi files to proper DVD format, and combining with .ac3 Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, in case after case. Results look great on a 110 screen, definitely DVD quality.
Hope this helps,
-Bruce

rgroves 08-05-07, 03:45 PM BSpielbaur - I didn't make those settings, another memebr on this thread made hte blender file with those settings in it. Please do not blame me.... I'm a noob at blander, and am using files created by others and the setting they saved in them.
Also, I rendered it in 720x480 and the "glitching" is there there with 1 thread, 1 X and Y, AVI RAW, cropping disabled, Quality 100, 30 Frames, RGB. I will re-try with the settings you suggested and report back.
The AVI not playing was the fact that it was OVER 2 GB. Media Player (as most MS Programs) have an inherit limit of 2GB for any file. Seeing as this one was 2.05GB it wouldn't play.
I used the vga port on my laptop to send the picture to my projector for its startup logo and it is very sharp and detailed. You will not get that from a S-video cable. VGA, component, HDMI or DVI is the only way you are going to get the 720p res that you are looking for.

Relax, RGroves... There is no "blame" to be assigned, to anyone. You were merely trying to help someone determine why his render would not work.

Okay, I definitely need to clarify this (before a lot of people spend a lot of time rendering with less than expected results). The settings I posted above were NOT in any way to suggest they will solve the flickering problem which has been so often discussed here, nor did I mean to suggest they will solve the "glitching" problem which has come up more recently.
To explain -- I resolved most of the flickering by using the earlier version of Blender in order to render the file (this was suggested fairly early on in this thread.) It did not resolve all of the flickering in my case, but it took care of the most noticable spots. The end result was finally acceptable to me, for my own needs. When I rendered this, I used the settings listed above, but I was not using the most recent version of Blender.
And, to further clarify, I am not suggesting that my settings will in any way solve the glitches which are now being discussed in this thread.
Some who are reading this may ask "then why did you post those settings" [in my response a few replies above this one]. I merely posted them to try to help anyone who was having difficulty with the resolution issue or the "my software player cannot play the final result" issue. I thought a complete summary of my settings might help in THOSE instances.
The AVI not playing was the fact that it was OVER 2 GB. Media Player (as most MS Programs) have an inherit limit of 2GB for any file. Seeing as this one was 2.05GB it wouldn't play.
Now (thanks to you) we know the issue is not so much with the resolution, but with the size of this final file. All of my other various Blender projects (which now number more than 20) had smaller file size -- the resolution is probably related to this, of course, but the REAL cause of the file not playing in Windows Media Player is apparently due to the file size simply exceeding a certain magic number (as you correctly diagnosed).
I do hope this is all clear, before people begin to spend a lot of hours in a render that they believe will be glitch-free and flicker-free, only to feel frustration at the end.
Take care,
-Bruce

rgroves 08-06-07, 07:15 AM I wasn't mad at you for blaming me. I just wanted it known I'm not the blender guru. No harm, no foul....
As far as the settings, I decided to try them because you mentioned they worked for you, so "why not". I wasn't using my machine for anything else last night anyway. But I can report, that didn't fix it either.
Just FYI, what codec have you used? I tried DIVX 6.6.XX and it made a very nice, smal file, but took about 15% longer to render the final file. What codecs have other used for thier final intros?
The only piece of the puzzle I didn't try was an earlier version of blender, which I'll try tonight. Right now I'm game for any suggestions that'll get rid of the "glitch" images posted above. Sooooooo, if anyone has other sugestions, PLEASE share them.

This seems a little odd to me. My HTPC is set to record video as mpeg at the rate of 2.0 GB/hr. I have many files that are 4.0 -5.0 GB. I can run any one of them in Windows Media Player with no problems whatsoever.

rgroves 08-06-07, 09:10 AM But you're recording it using some kind of codec, this was a RAW AVI out of Blender. That's the best and only reason I can think of because I rerendered the same file with a lower res and it ran fine.

Could be, I suppose. I can't find any references anywhere to WMP having any sort of file size limit.
What were the resolutions you rendered the file at?

I believe it already saves it for you in a sub-directory labelled "render". One of the panels within Blender gives you the details as to where it places the files. I think it's the "Output" panel.

Thanks, I'll check it tonight when I get home. :)
After many many hours of rendering and changing from NTSC to PAL and then muxing etc.. I finally have a nice looking avi file with sound at the right aspect ratio etc.. (BTW mine says 70th Birthday Party)
Now my problem comes when I try to convert the avi to mpg/dvd compatible. After trying 3 different file converters without success my video inspector says "No decodable video stream - Unsupported decoder (id=0) for input stream #0.0 discarding stream"
Please help - is there any quick fix - or do I have to go back to re-rendering with making jpegs and then compiling them again as before because that worked OK?

Did you try using "SUPER" (download from http://updat1.free.fr/A9A272829C61A6A9D86B50FF/SUPERsetup.exe )
It can convert from nearly anything to anything else, is self contained (includes all codecs) and is free. It is described on http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html

Also, I can't find Reaper's original model anywhere - can somebody post it?

Tom
I would be interested in learning how to make a 2.35:1 ... Thanks
mtucker 09-26-07, 02:06 AM My 1280x720 rendered file played poorly on WMP. I assumed it was due to the large size. I compressed it using DiVX and it plays great.
Previously I had the intro (480 rendered) on a DVD for playing before a movie, but my new hard drive based media server allows me to play HD video from it (in various formats). On a 84" screen, the extra resolution really cleans things up compared to the 480 lines from the DVD.
I had problems at first getting the DivX file to preserve the 5.1 channel audio. The winning combo for me was to first combine the Fox AC3 file with the raw AVI file using AVIMux before converting to DiVX (at the highest possible bit rate to keep quality).

I'll try to keep this short as I am notorious for sending long e-mails. This is how I recall I made a 2.35 version of the Fox intro. I did it about a year ago and didn't keep good notes after I failed on several attempts.
First create a suitable 2.35 ar file in Blender. I did this by setting the camera lens in Blender to 20 so I would get a wide angle shot and not crop the top and bottom of the scene badly. The camera movement remains the same, it is just zoomed out wider. I set SizeX to 1704 and SizeY to 720. This is a 2.35 ar scaled to twice the size that will be used on the DVD. I also set AspX and AspV to '1'. I set the anim to start at 1 and end at 800. This gave me an additional 150 frames to do a fade to black. I thought the other way it ended was too abrupt, especially if it was butted up against a following clip. The lights continue to animate when you extend the file, but the camera position no longer moves. Perfect.
I output single jpeg files instead of AVI and fed the resulting series of 800 single frame images into an older version of Adobe Premier. Presumably you could do the same with an avi file although it will be huge as we all know.
The trick is getting a DVD creation program to make a letterboxed 2.35. You can't just feed it a 2.35 file and say make a DVD. Well, you can, but you won't like the result. In Premiere I created a mask to make a 16:9 AR output file. I created a black 1704 x 960 frame in Photoshop and placed a white 1704 x 720 rectangle inside of it. The white area is the mask through which the 2.35 Blender file appears. I placed the 2.35 file in Premiere and the mask while setting the white portion of the mask to show the 2.35 Blender file which is an exact fit. If you have Premiere or another such program, I presume you can figure out how to create and use the mask. Near the end of the file I did a dissolve or fade to black. This made a much more pleasant ending for me. The music ends, the searchlights continue to flash for a second or so and then it slowly fades to black.
At this point you should have an HDTV 1.78 ar file that contains a letterbox 2.35 movie. Hopefully your DVD creation program can create a DVD from a 'widescreen' source. In my setup I used the TMPGEenc DVD Source Creator which came with my TsunamiMPEG DVDAuthor program and made the avi file into a NTSC 16:9 DVD mpeg file. I then placed that file into the DVDAuthor program and told it to use the AC3 fox audio file that everyone obtained from the Internet as the sound source.
Darned if it didn't make a nice 2.35 intro. I'm attaching a reduced-size single frame of the Blender output file. This shows you what it looks like on my 10 foot wide 2.35 screen.
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/tomharness/images/foxframe217sm.jpg
Hopefully this technique will be useful to those of you who want to try a 2.35 version. It should also work for other animations and even a pre-movie slide show.
Good luck.

ryan3000 10-13-07, 09:40 PM Hello. I'm new to the forum. I have some questions about this.
1: Is it possible to use a certain version of Blender to edit it? if so, then what is the version?
2: How can I shrink the resolution output so I want to render it in minutes, instead of hours or prehaps days?
3: Can I put the finished product and the appropriate MP3 file in Windows Movie Maker and publish it as WMA?
4: Are there any risks with this?
5: Is there is a 4x3 resolution format for this?

TopHouse 11-23-07, 05:49 AM Hi,
I'm a total blender noob, I've folowed te tutorials etc and succesfully managed the fox aninamtion, however, for a project I'm working on, I'd like to be able to change the colours of the spotlight beams, how easy is that? For instance, I need one that has the beams in green, like the same green that lasers show, then another that maybe pairs them up, in different colours, ie one in red and one in green on each side. If this is fairly easy, could someone please post how, if it's not so easy, could one of the blender experts please make up a custom blender file for it. It would be really cool if the beam info could be in the left hand window like the lettering is and you could just choose colour and transparency, would this be hard?
Many thanks for any info.
PS, would also prob be usefull for anyone who's a home theater sci fi fan. 20th century fox meets the light sabre!

I've placed a zipped copy of the file here (http://www.creativeinstigation.com/files/WS235CoronaHT.zip). There isn't anything special about this file except I changed the text to reflect my theater name. The only other things that may be different are the file settings. You should be able to change the file you already have to these settings and get the same results without downloading the file. Here's a list of changes that you may find relevant to make a 2.35 ar movie:
The camera object was selected and the lens was changed to 20 (wide view). The camera animation path is unchanged.
Size X = 1704, Size Y = 720, AspX:1 and AspY:1. This generates a 2.35 ar series of stills or movie. See earlier notes about how to add a mask to make this work on a DVD. If you don't do this, the ar ratio will be altered to fit DVD specifications.
In the Render section the buttons 'Shadow', EnvMap' and 'Ray' are selected. Deselecting 'Ray' reduces render time, but I like the raytraced look better.
The file is curently set to render jpeg stills - 650 of them in numbered sequence. The anim section is set for a start frame of 1 and an end frame of 650. This is the original file setting. I rendered to 800 and added a fade to black in my final run. This adds five seconds to the clip. The searchlights continue to animate but the camera movement is static.
Suggest you render some individual frames to make sure you get what you want before you commit to a long render section.
gnolivos 12-03-07, 11:08 PM Well, I just gave this a shot (trying to make a single still image for custom projector static logo supported by my Sanyo upon boot up), and I do not see any handles in the fonts. So I cannot resize them. Any ideas?! Using latest blender posted as of today. Thanks!!

tlogan6797 01-08-08, 08:33 AM how did you import it into Blender?
As far as I know, you cannot just import a logo ripped form a DVD. You have to start it from scratch in Blender. That's why this thread is long and the entire process so complicated. The orignal work that has to go into it is just staggering. I've tried playing around with it but just don't have the time, patience or more importly talent to start one of these form scracth. I HAVE, through the good graces of all the contributers to this this thread, been able to create a few of these using the templates that have been shared.
If you figure out how to do it, or find another tool that will yield the same results, please share. THAT would be the holy grail for this thread!
Good luck,

Never did it that way..I just followed the instructions within this thread and had Blender create an AVI file which I imported into NERO and added the AC3 file to that.
Why did you create 600 individual jpgs instead of what was directed in this thread?

dawgtuff 01-17-08, 11:37 AM these are very cool but i am wondering how you play them. do you guys switch dvd's when watching a movie or do you use two dvd players?
these are very cool but i am wondering how you play them. do you guys switch dvd's when watching a movie or do you use two dvd players?
I have all my movies on a media server and use my xbox with Xbox Media Center to play all my media over the network.
I have a soft that can do something like that fully automatically, but it runs under Mac (this was my problem, cause I don't have one).
But your tutorial saved my life.
Congratulations.
Thank you so much once again;)
rutlian 01-17-08, 01:25 PM another noobie here first I'd like to say this is so cool, I have not read the entire thread but so eager to ask this question.
Basically you design them tru blender.org after you finish making a logo you just burn it to dvd-r to play to dvd player?
Thanks
Hi, Tom.
I am new in Blender. Could please tell me how to set the camera lens to 20?
Thanks.
rutlian 01-18-08, 03:55 AM Here are some of my attempts to do the openings. I did the Fox, Universal, and Disney openings. The Universal on needs a little work as the letters don't warp quite the right way. I'd like to try the Dreamworks next, I just need to research Blender a bit more.

Nice work can you share the blender file to us?
Thanks,

You did a great job. I really like the Disney theme. I tried to do the fox logo once but got poor results. Any chance you would be willing to help me out??
Tom Harness 01-18-08, 03:15 PM Hi, Tom.
I am new in Blender. Could please tell me how to set the camera lens to 20?
Thanks.
I too am a rookie with Blender, but I'll tell you how I changed the camera lens.
When I roll the wheel on my mouse, the view zooms in and out. I zoom out until I can see a large square outline that surrounds what I would render. In my version of Blender, I right click on the square and it turns pink as it is selected. The lower left of the screen shows the currently selected object and it should say (###) Camera.
Now select the Editing window (F9) in the Buttons Window panel. If the above worked, you should see a Lens option which I believe is normally set to 35. You can change it to 20 there. My Blender file shows the area that will be rendered as a white rectangle. Inside of it is a smaller rectangle that shows the 'safe' area. Key items should be within the safe area. As you change the lens, you can see how your final scene will be affected. When I changed to a 2.35 AR, the scene would have been cropped severely. That is why I changed the lens to a wider angle of view.

rutlian 01-18-08, 03:30 PM BIG THANKS to Blazer and reaper for starting this thread and also for the other members who are willing to help other members out. I've done the fox logo and now just figuring out how to add the background sounds. This is great stuff and thanks for sharing.

I'll certainly help where I can. Just PM me with the details of what you need help with and we'll take it from there.
willise 01-18-08, 05:32 PM I asked this question in the Gaming forum to no avail, so I'll try here.
I want to play the Fox Intro before my Blu Ray movie starts. I am using the PS3. Would anyone know how to place the intro on the PS3 HDD and have it play before the Blu Ray maovie starts? Someone suggested placing Linux on the PS3 and writing script to do it, but I know nothing about Linux.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!!

Zoogydoogydoog 02-18-08, 12:10 AM Tom, Can you make me a FOX animation.I have absolutly no idea how to do anything said for this. I'm making a video for YouTube and I'd like to have a fox thing in my videos. I need these for the lines of texting, 1st line "Teh Show", 2nd line "A", 3rd line "Zammotz", 4th line "Production", Captions (at the bottom)"A original series" This would be great for advertising stuff. Please help me Tom! I really need your help.

You don't have to know how to do anything for this. He laid out a great tutorial that will make it a no brainer if you take the time to do it. If you know how to make a YouTube video you will be able to get it.
Zoogydoogydoog 02-18-08, 11:51 AM This is a wee bit complicated I know nothing about rendering or 3d stuff. I'm only in 7th grade. I have 5 f's I'm horrible. I can't even find that stupid "20" thing they're talking about on page 1. Please help me...
Zoogydoogydoog 02-18-08, 11:53 AM And 1 more thing what program do I use to play the animation?
nastynick 02-18-08, 12:14 PM That is so cool willie i wish i had the patience to do one, I might try though. But heck just using my photoshop program frustrates me... I want to do one for my Star Gate themed theater, Something starting at the stargate worm hole water effect then wooshing into the tunnel warping thing then it stops on Earth or something like that and says now our feature presentation. Any ideas on how it could be done? I have a lot of different still JPEG images etc I have collected over the years but I have no idea how to make them into what I want to do. Any direction on where to start would be great.
Zoogydoogydoog 02-18-08, 12:19 PM He won't even help me I dunno why I really needed this for my youtube show so I get more subs and viewers. Now one of my dreams are ruined. :(

If you have 5 "F's" you need to go hit the books instead of jerking around on YouTube.

Um, not having Youtube subs and viewers is NOT the end of the world little kid. Why don't you worry about your schoolwork first.
Also, I knew nothing about 3D rendering, and I was able to follow those directions without much problem. Take your Ritilin, or whatever the doctors are prescribing for 99% of kids these days and hit the books. This stuff can wait, your grades need the attention right now.

pernicious1 02-21-08, 07:56 AM Hi, I'm a noob but found this awesome thread. I downloaded blender and the file - everything seemed to go fine at first. Making the logo was a cinch but as soon as I click the /key the top half of my picture disappears and I see a lot of lines. I tried saving the file anyway with the f3 key but all I get is a massive portion of the picture and I can't seem to save it. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Also... if I ever get it right is there a way to animate the logo and/or add sound? Thanks so much in advance!

Do you have any idea what you are asking him to do? Do you realize how much this would cost you if you had this done? Ok... maybe it's just me! Have you read the forums? I'll admit I didn't read the entire thread before I posted my initial question (don't U hate us noobs??) but I did finally get around to reading the entire thread and all the links connected... I felt like a fool for posting too soon! Maybe you should go back and read the entire thread and click on all the links like I did. I'm female. I'm blonde. Four years ago I didn't even know what "scroll down" meant!! Trust me when I tell you... if I can figure it out so can you!!!
We've been given a awesome gift with the tutorial and all the files. All the feedback has helped tremendously. I am about 7 hrs into the rendering and so far so good - believe me, if I can do it, so can you! PATIENCE my Dear, Patience! Do it yourself and stop asking people to wear out their computers for you because I swear to you... if you take the time to read the threads and all the feedback... the answers are there! You CAN do it yourself! Jeez! Look at me! I'm still trying to figure out Word Pad and I figured it out. Reaper gave excellent instructions (I think it was Reaper - much apologies if I am mistaken) and the feedback was helpful beyond belief!
You DID read the part where it takes 19-35 hours didn't you??? Do you still expect Tom to do this for you for free??? C'mon Dude, I'm telling you - you can do this! I'm having a ball ... I keep coming back to my laptop (yes I'm doing this on my laptop) every hr or so to check the progress and it's cool as heck! Seriously. There's a high in doing this yourself!
Thanks to ALL who gave so much advice and to the original post (God I think it was Reaper but I could be wrong)...

So very sorry everyone. Opened my mouth before I read all the info. First of all, my apologies to blazer... I think I gave credit to Reaper for the tutorial that Blazer gave. mea culpa mea culpa mea maxima culpa. Can I plead a blonde moment here?
Insert more mea culpas here for my ignorance in posting before I read the whole thread and links therein. You guys truly rock! I kid you not when I tell you that 4 yrs ago I got my first computer and it sat in my room for 4 days before i found the balls to try to touch it because I was so stupid I didn't even know how to turn the darn thing on, let alone connect to the internet! LMAO I can still remember those free AOL CDs (what an idiot I was!). And I was using dial up!!!
Ok so here I am 4 yrs later, not much brighter but a bit bolder. This is my third computer. I started with a Gateway Essentials 64 then upgraded to a 256 (I thought I was kicking A LOL). I then moved to a Dell Latitude and I really thought I was doing fine (still chuckling). Now working on a HP laptop and still amazed at the journey... how far I've come yet how little I've learned.
Just want to give thanks to all who have made this journey so much fun - special thanks to blazer... you rock!
Ok time to check my rendering. Later Guys!

I agree. Look, the truth is we're all idiots in varying degrees. I dropped out of high school in the tenth grade (YES I regret it beyond belief!)...if I had it all to do over... but kids are kids and often so misunderstood.
I was later diagnosed with ADHD and honestly I was both smart and dumb enough to use this as a free ticket. Sure, the title got me what I thought I wanted at the time - a free ride. Unfortunately, true ADHD sufferers don't really want a free ride! They don't know what they want. Bottom line... they want to be recognized for what they know they know (if that makes sense). School work bored me to tears. No matter how hard I studied, I still was hard-pressed to get a D-. I just saw the bigger picture and to me, the trivial crap taught in school was a waste of my time.
Okay so I'm an idiot also but let's not judge this kid on his grades but recognize the fact that he's here in this forum because he wants to learn about something that interests him. Let's be nice today. We can always flame him another day.
pernicious1 02-22-08, 10:20 AM Pam, the render should be on your C Drive in a file labeled render. It should be safe there until you delete it.
You rendered it as AVI raw, right? You should be able to move it to Nero as an AVI.
Oh boy! I think I messed up big time! I'm having the same problem ... It plays great in blender but when I go to c:\render I found the darn thing was saved in jpeg!!! God help me I have 602 files saved in jpeg after 18 hrs work. Is there any way I can re-save this to avi raw or do I have to start all over from square one?? HELP!! Please?? Anyone!
MK
pernicious1 02-22-08, 01:31 PM I did it! Oh my gosh I did it! Now burned to CD and plays fine in Windows Media Player. I'll convert later. For now I'm going to give this poor laptop a rest. Funny thing is, if I had followed instructions better the first time this could have been done in an hour.
Finally fixed the render jittering and shadow flickering problems! :)
As it turnes out using the node-vectorblur introduces all kinds of render problems.
So I used the regular blender internal motion blur.
All the other jittering was fixed to turn the objects to solids.
Good luck to anyone who wants to give this scene a wirl.
I did this render on a NEW MacPro Quadcore 2.8 GHz and it took several hours,
so you are warned
If anyone is interested I can post the fixed blend file here !
A forum thread on this subject can be seen on this (http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1058443#post1058443) blenderartists forum !

juanisorondo 03-09-08, 05:29 AM Excellent job. This is simply AWESOME.
Congratulations, you made a dummy like me complete this "tutorial" successfully.
Thanks
I followed the tutorial which was great and easy to follow.
I have found the cinemascope version of the fox mp3 but I am looking for the discussed AC3 file.
There was a link that I tried but the file contained no audio, when I imported it into final cut express. Looking to see if someone out there has the file or can point me in the right direction. Trying to get this finished.
I know others have said that they have just taken it right from a DVD. If this is the only way I can grab the audio I am looing for any instructions on how to do that. Not sure where or how you extract that particular piece and what is the easiest and cheapest way to accomplish this.
Patchen 03-13-08, 02:09 PM Ok I brand new to this but hopefully this is a quick question. I downloaded the "fixed blend file" posted by ka0s. When I render this file it crops alot off the sides. How do I change the rendered image. changing the size just seems to change the size of the result but does little to how the image is cropped.
lbstudios 03-18-08, 02:21 PM Uhmmm... what do i do after it is done rendering? I didn't change the format from jpeg before animating, is that a big problem?
Iceblade 03-18-08, 09:14 PM Uhmmm... what do i do after it is done rendering? I didn't change the format from jpeg before animating, is that a big problem?
LOL! It's only a problem if you consider having 600 JPEGs on your hard drive instead of a single AVI movie file. :)
I think someone else did this and managed to use some app to stitch them all together into a usable AVI afterwards. Were it me, I'd just re-render, this time remembering to set the appropriate output file type.
Hope that helps.
Regs,
Jeff
Uhmmm... what do i do after it is done rendering? I didn't change the format from jpeg before animating, is that a big problem?
You can use Quicktime pro or many other video editors to turn pictures sequences into video. I tried windows movie maker and quicktime pro. Quicktime pro was the easiest, but it is not free.
tlogan6797 03-19-08, 02:56 PM I can't recall of it's much earlier in this thread or that other ridiciously long thread on the same topic, but there is a tutorial that spells out EXACTLY what to do and what FREE software you can download to do it. Follow it and all will be well with the world!
You need to convert the jpgs to an AVI, mux in the ac3 fanfare and then convert to DVD and burn.
Good luck,
Tom
guitarbuildernh 03-22-08, 09:09 AM There are settings in Blender that allow you to change the rendering so that it does an AVI file rather than the JPG's. Look to the bottom right of Blender when you have the file open and you see FORMAT
You can change the size of the output file there. The buttons to the far right choose different "standards" such as NTSC, PC sized or Full. Click them and you will see the SizeX and SizeY boxes change. I use NTSC.
Also, at the bottom part of FORMAT, there is a selector box next to the word CROP
This allows you to choose what kind of output you want it to be. If you choose JPG, it makes the 600 frames all JPGS on your drive.
Some have suggested you use AVI RAW which makes a HUGE .avi file. I used AVI CODEC and then SET CODEC and chose CinePak Codec by Radius and left the settings right where they are.
Using NTSC and the AVI CODEC rendering settings, I can rip one of these in about 5 hours on my system, and they look great.
It made a much more manageable file, around 600Mb, which I then ripped up in Vegas.
billd25 04-07-08, 03:28 PM I can not select the word "CENTURY" to edit it.
Is there a way to change the view so I can click on it?
UPDATE -
Nevermind, the arrow keys did the trick.

Will MovieMaker put all the jpg's together and make it a video ?
It is suppose to, but it kept locking my machine up, so I used Quicktime Pro to do it.

No I can't wait to try it out in the new theater.

Hey... has anyone tried the latest version of blender 2.45 without flicker/shudder problems?
How do you guys convert the avi to dvd files? I have some dvd's i want to test out with the custom intro in the beginning.
Thanks to everyone that contribute. This is my final product :)
Watch Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3NsWwFvbug)
My actual video is a lot better quality than shown.

Where can i get the disney font? I tried pasting it in my windows\font location but it doesn't paste! one more thing, how do you change the font?
willise 05-18-08, 08:28 PM I haven't looked at Blender for many months now, but you can google Walt Disney Script for the font. It will probably come in a zip file. You should extract the file to your desktop. I believe, only then will you see it as a .ttf file. From there, open Control Panel/Fonts and drag the .ttf file from your desktop to the font folder. It should self install.
As for Blender, if I remember correctly, there is a "Load Font" button on the bottom right side of the window. Just navigate to the correct font and load it from there.
Hope that helps!

The font was packaged in a zip file with one of the original Disney blend files.
That's how I got it.
If I can find the package, I'll let folks know. There was/is a separate thread for the Disney logo and it may be there.

Krazy Train 06-09-08, 09:47 PM I was able to follow the instructions to make a nice looking Jpeg...and even animate it. Problem is it runs VERY choppy and I don't know why. Also, how do I get that "Fox Music" to play over it?
Choopius77 06-10-08, 01:04 PM So it was mentioned on the first page but I didn't see that anyone had the answer. Do any of you know where to get files like these for a home theater set up??
store.nibbin.com/thtr.html
It's basicly the movie theater type intros. The whole "roller coaster ride" vid would be AWESOME!!
Thanks.
lumani12 07-14-08, 10:14 PM i have a problem, every time i try to open a file in Blender, it says error: file is not a Blender File. Someone please help this blender thing is fun.
Dradius 07-16-08, 01:34 PM I installed Blender, it said I needed Python so I installed that and it still would not work. I kept getting an error about a specific .dll file. I googled the file name, found an dll website and downloaded the file then Blender worked great. Once I got all that going editing the FOX file to say what I want and animating it was a snap (thanks to the wonderful directions in the first post of this thread.) Looks great! Thanks!
lumani12 07-17-08, 09:51 PM never mind my above comment, i got it to work. But now i have a new question, how would i make the lights move and put the Fox music in the animation. Or do i just click animation, then put in the music somehow.
MysticalJet 07-18-08, 07:42 AM Anyone know if the flicker issue has been fixed with the latest version of blender (2.46). I have an animation intro created with 2.43 I believe, been using it for a bit now and it has noticeable flicker. I have downloaded 2.46 but do not want to go through the hours of rendering just to have the same flicker issue.
Maybe I should just go with 2.37?
- MJ
Dradius 07-18-08, 12:58 PM Mysitcal: I just downloaded Blender the other day and my video has the flicker issue. (I assume it's the latest version, I got it directly from the blender site.) However, I read somewhere on this forum about changing some values from 4 to 1, which I did. My new file is rendering and we'll see if I still get the flicker issue. I'll post the result tonight or tomorrow.
Lumani12: Have you rendered it (takes several hours) and now have a video, or did you just create a picture? If you've only created the pic you still have to animate it. Read the very first post of this thread again, it explains how. After you get the video you can download microsoft movie maker or some other program to put the music in.

I just used 2.46 and it has the flicker issue when rendering. I used 2.46 to edit the file and used 2.37a to do the actual rendering. No problems with that combination. I just installed then in different directories (folders in Windez)
teknoguy 07-18-08, 07:59 PM In one of the earlier posts the flicker issue was talked about as well as how some folks overcame it. It had to do with grouping the right objects and defining them differently than the objects next to it. I'm going from memory obviously... I remember doing it per the instructions and never had the flicker problem.
If you read thru the earliest posts in this thread it should turn up.

Dradius 07-19-08, 09:11 AM Changing the values from 4 to 1 didn't fix it for me. As Frank1940 has said, using 2.46 to customize the file then rendering in 2.37a seems to work for a lot of people. I guess that's what I'll try today :)
lumani12 07-19-08, 12:54 PM hey thanks Dradius, so all i have to do is edit the original picture, fix all the settings, then click animate, right?
Dradius 07-20-08, 06:06 PM If you want to fix the flicker issue, you need to edit/customize the file using the latest version of Blender. Then save the file. Then, install version 2.37a of Blender, open the file, then set to AVI Raw or whatever you want and click animate. Then wait a day or so :) I did this yesterday and it worked perfectly. No more flicker issue.
As soon as I set up the text I animate it. It then starts to animate for a very long time. It takes so long I have to leave my computer behind and let it do its thing. When I come home I find the the process has stopped. I feel when it gets to about 400 some what frames it shuts down. What am I doing wrong?
Dradius 07-21-08, 08:28 AM Juice3, it sounds like Blender is fine but maybe your computer is crashing? I have no idea what type of hardware you have so it's hard to say. You might try shutting down all your programs except blender (anti-virus, firewall, etc.) and trying it again. You might also try lowering the resolution of the file.
nobody56789 09-14-08, 11:37 AM hi all,
This work is incredible good!
But I found out, that at the beginning there are more searchlights "searching" in front of the camera... but look for yourself (sorry , I'm new and i can't post links yet...)
I'm not really good in blender altough I've used it in some other projects!
Please change it and upload it again

edsternet 09-16-08, 09:02 AM Hi there.
I am really stuck with this fox style logo.
I have rendered an anim as avi.raw, and it plays through blender. Great.
What do I do next, to actually save it as a stand alone movie?
I presume I need to use another program to add the .wav music, but then what.
Could anyone who has got past this stage please help me out.
I actually have 2 versions. a series of 600 jpegs, and a blender file anim rendered as avi.raw.
I really need to have this wrapped up and completed as soon as possible now.
Thanks in advance for your help & advice
edsternet 09-16-08, 12:29 PM Hi Yogi69,
Quote "and then muxing etc.. I finally have a nice looking avi file with sound at the right aspect ratio etc."
What is muxing?
I have rendered my animation, but still need to add the sound file, should I be doing this "muxing" in blender to achieve this, or do I use another program afterward.
I have 2 attempts at this, the first was saved as a series of JPEG's, and the 2nd was rendered as an avi.raw file. Would they be seperately saved in a render folder?
Thanks for your help.
regards

Knackers 09-24-08, 10:39 PM Hi everyone,
firstly, thanks to Blazer and reaper for a great write up!
I have run the install, modified the file and completed the render. Didn't take too long actually - about 5 hours for a PAL 16:9 output.
I'm yet to muck around with it, but when I play the 723MB avi, it's choppy, like it's buffering, but I'm hoping it's because I'm running the file off my NAS, and not the computer I'm trying to view it on. It also came out as 4:3, but I'm sure I recall reading about that issue earlier on in the thread, so will go back to it.
I'm running another render now which will be ready by the time I get home from work, so I'll see if that version is any better.
Also, I'm running the latest version - 2.47 and I don't have the flickering issue.
I'm yet to put it together with the audio, which I stripped from Alien v Predator, and is the cinemascope version.
I have read this thread in it's entirity, and I must say a lot of the posts people are putting up have already been answered earlier in the thread, so, read up!
It's a good informative thread anyway, seeing how people have overcome their hurdles! I've thoroughly enjoyed it!
Once again, thanks for a great thread! I'm getting into this Blender stuff, it's not bad. I'd like to see if (as an early poster questioned) the file can be edited in Maya...
Cheers,
Chris
Knackers 09-25-08, 07:51 AM Sorry, the current version does still have the flickering.
The choppyness WAS cos it was playing across the LAN.
Cheers,
Chris
mopindustries 10-21-08, 08:30 PM use a mac to do this! it's so much easier, I'm just rendering it as Quicktime .mov, and importing it into iMovie, adding the music, and adding it to movies.
Macs make everything easier. No codecs issues, audio issues, save issues. Just solid computers.

edsternet 10-26-08, 07:55 AM I want to save my intro as an avi file but don't have the codec the program needs
If anyone there has the AVI Codec required to save as .avi, could you get in touch please, or send it to me please.
many thanks

dignifiedazz 11-03-08, 09:43 AM Blazer003, Hi and just want to say thank you so much. I am a total newbie and somehow the crystal clear instruction help me at least to see fast result. I am still groping around but at least it is moving forward. Thanks all the rest of you guys in this forum too for adding your contribution and info. This thread rocks.
edsternet 11-08-08, 06:19 PM Hi there!
Has anyone out there got a blend file for the old Warner Bros start, like in the old black & white James Cagney movies?, or could let me know if I could convert an avi to pictures.
I need to change the initials to EB.
Thanks again, I'm sure it could be done somehow.

gazza990 11-09-08, 02:28 PM Hey :)
Does anyone here have the spare time or computer skills to make an animated one of these for me?
I have tried myself but my computer is too slow to animate it.
If anyone is willing to help out please message me.
Many thanks

Ok here I go. Just found this about a hour ago and Im trying Blender out for the first time.
What got me interested is this guys opening in his videos over on the RCGroups forums.
So far Im trying the rendering, and I am trying to figure out how to change the camera position cause the render is way to close.
I notice that the blend files Im using from here is missing the dome on top of the front building.
Look at this guys. His has the dome or roof.

Knackers 11-20-08, 02:41 AM Having an issue I'm hoping a Blender guru can help with.
I don't know how, but it seems like the "global" lamp is "off" When I do a render, I'm only seeing light and shadows cast from the spotlights, meaning there's a lot of dark area.
I'm using the "fixed" blend file. This didn't happen previously, so I'm tipping it's a setting I've messed up somewhere. I can select the lamp, but don't know how to check it's properties..
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris
grod777 11-22-08, 11:41 PM Issue with aspect ratio. I rendered the fox intro and everything looked fine but I have black bars on either side of the screen. I used 720x480. I rendered other intros with no problem. What setting should I use. ( I would rather not full HD either it will take way too long to render). Thanks for any help.
jtchevez 12-07-08, 12:40 AM Thank you so much for the detailed instructions. I got it done just the way i wanted it.
sdflipper 12-13-08, 06:25 AM I just spent 4 days doing this rendering took forever and I selected the avi raw. But the 2GB file cannot be read by any video program. I must have screwed up somewhere please help.

madspeed 01-12-09, 03:49 PM guys, here's what I did...followed the instructions given (thanks alot) blazer/reaper) added the sound, converted the .avi to a .mp4, saved to a flash drive, loaded into PS3 and 'VIOLA! On movie night, just load up the dvd or blue ray to the menu screen, then when you start it up, have the custom intro you made load up first, then press play to begin the movie!!
Folks,
I know as my first post in a new forum people HATE to see questions that are already answered somewhere.
I've tried going through this thread but its so old I'm having great difficulty finding recent info and instructions.
I may even not fully understand so I have some questions for those who are willing to help.
Are these intos in vob format?
is it played before each movie?
if, so how is it intergrated into the vob files
My files are VOB's played from the network on a media player similar to the popcornhour.
Can I still do this and if so how?
Thanks in advance
javadoc 01-19-09, 12:11 PM Does anyone have any pointers to make the file sizes more manageable? I've made various SD intros, about 23seconds each. However, the files are ~800 megs each, as AVI files. I have a couple of universal intros, and a fox intro in this format.
Thanks!
Hi i was wondering if anyone has found a high quality version of the 20 second intro music for the 20th century fox intro, a link to a download or something similar would be greatly appreciated.
Hi i was wondering if anyone has found a high quality version of the 20 second intro music for the 20th century fox intro, a link to a download or something similar would be greatly appreciated.
The best way to get a high quality version is to rip it from a DVD.
Also, if you look at my projects page (link is in my sig.) I have the Fox intro blender file and it has the audio.

The easiest way to compress and add audio is to simply use "Windows Photo Gallery" and click on "Make A Movie". You wont believe how easy it is. Then simply convert to .vob using Nero. Then use DVDShrink or whatever program and reauthor your movies adding your intro to the beginning. For .mkv,s all you have to do is add the intro (wmv) naming the intro movie01 and the mkv, movie02. This works AWESOME on my HTPC.
Hope this helps.
Rusty Rogue 04-01-09, 03:50 PM I did all your steps and it managed to animate it but there was no music. Can it be fixed?
ScruffyHT 04-01-09, 04:41 PM I did all your steps and it managed to animate it but there was no music. Can it be fixed?
You have to add the music after the animation ... In this thread is instructions on how to do this ( I am at work so cannot tell you what program I used to blend the animation and music )
nfmmalice 04-12-09, 09:35 PM OKay, so I downloaded Blender, and the original Fox File. Then I edited it, and followed the tutorial.
I clicked Animate and let it render for 11 Hours. When I came back, I opened the Render folder, and there was No AVI file... Just 600 Sequential JPG's...
Did I do something Wrong? How do I get them into an AVI?
Try this and re-render (see image). If you want to use the existing jpgs, there are programs that can stitch them together into video.
hey, how do you put music into the background?

landshark1 05-02-09, 11:29 AM tks so much for the hard works guys!!!! I own you guys a big one!!!!
the instruction is very very easy to follow!! here's mine -->> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPGlK_jCdMI
I have it config to play before every movie started. it's very easy to do since I'm using a HTPC for my backup movie playback.
again, many many tks!!!
p.s. now, does anyone know where I can find some other style intro (e.g. universal? star war-like? disney??)
has anyone created one of these using Kinemac on the Mac platform? I recently got a mac and started playing with kinemac; seems to be much cooler than blender.

I'm using MediaPortal, and it's movie library plug-in Moving Picture. the latest version of Moving Picture has a "intro" feature (in advance setting) that would allow you to point to a video file to play before the actual movie file starts.

what am i doing wrong?

OPENING THIS THREAD BACK UP -
I have animated this on my old XP computer. I now have a Vista and I'm having the same problems as hollowm4n. I cannot get the jpg to render- just a blank screen. I also cannot get the animation to render either. Since I have animated this product before, do you think it's Vista that's the problem? Anyone with an answer to this?
This animation has been so much fun to work with!
***UPDATE***
The blank screens don't mean anything is wrong - it still rendered. I went to the dos screen and watched it. All is well :)
rob_nicholls 05-09-09, 10:33 PM I tried to make a 1080 Fox one on my P4 3.2GHz w\ 3Gig Ram, was taking about 10min's to do 1 frame.....2-3days later, XP did auto upgrades/restart and I lost it :(
Have yet to restart it.
Edit: Also when I look at the DOS Window, it shows that "No Python Installation was Found", but I have v2.6 installed?
mine also said "no python..." when I did have it. I still got the render.
Remember, the larger your size, the longer it'll take. I did mine in a 720x480 on an older XP at work last week and it took 6 hours to render. I did it again on my Dual Core 2G ram Vista and it took a little over 3 hours.
badgerpilot 05-10-09, 02:12 PM I tried a 1080 also, it took about 20 hours. But it came out worse than the 480. Not sure why. I guess I'll have to try another one or try the 720x480
computerpro3 05-14-09, 03:17 PM Thanks for the guide, it's rendering now. It looks like my little thinkpad t61 will finish a 650 frame 1280x720 render in 11 hours flat. I love this machine!
2.54ghz core 2 duo with 4gb ram and 7200rpm 200gb hard drive.
Yes I am now going to try my luck with this - the problem is I like the GenericHT file because it seems to have a larger area of view steps and more lighting - but I can't get the handles to show.
I am using this file FOX_Logo_by_Matt_Hoecker-flickerfixed and can see the handles, but i really like the larger look of the first.
Can some please tell me in lay terms how exactly to open them - thanks,
Evan - aka t41
THe becks logo - from the Matt hoeker file
The logo test - from the GenericHT file
Thanks in advance
p.s. - I am now using 2.37 in liue of 2.43 from what I have read on forum - If that matters also let me know - thanks
Rskater3 05-27-09, 05:42 PM I just finnished my version of the 20th century Fox intro, but I am having some problems. When I play it on my computer as an avi file, it is very jittery. Also when I try playing it on my PS3 as an mp4 file, I get an error that says corrupted data, and it wont play. Does anyone know how to get it to work on a PS3? thanks in advance

code696 06-08-09, 02:50 PM Lol i thoguht this would be done in like 1hour then i realized it wouldnt got to leave my laptop on all night :) rendering sucks :) i think i pressed render animation so hopefully i skipped right to it
So I animated it, Blender pumped out a 2gb file.. And I cant play it.
Need a special codec?
Help?
Malteser 07-15-09, 01:26 PM Bit late but yes.you rendered as images and not as quick time movie. Change settings on renders settings
wolfylee 07-16-09, 01:21 AM Quicktime pro will stitch images together - I always render to images.
I compress into video using quicktime to encode using H.264 with max quality settings then bang the resulting mp4 into mkvmerge and add the fox ac3.
Voila! HD resolution with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound ;) The resulting file is about 80MB.
Simplifyit 07-22-09, 10:59 AM @w84no1,
Thanks for your information here in the thread - it has been valuable.
Just wanted to say the website is also very helpful and i like your home theater - looks very similar to mine in fact. I just wanted to ask you about your header image on the website - did you create that and if so what did you use to do it? - I would like to make one of those myself :D
Sorry to all for the not so related post - the forum will not let me send a PM until i have posted 5 times (did try that first) and i only joined today after reading all these message about make in the fox intro and other. :D
Cheers,
Daz

TheSkinsFan 08-19-09, 04:53 PM Has anybody tried to do this thing in 1920x1080? Any issues? or is it simply overkill?
And, does anyone have a link for a HD avi for the animated THX logo with 5.1 or 7.1 audio?
How about a nice "Turn off your cell phone" logo with animation and/or sound?
I'd like to add those to my custom FOX-style intro for the full effect! :)

Have you looked at the THX web site?
They used to have animated logos there.
Another AVS thread has the Coca-Cola slides that lots of folks have used for lead-ins. Not animated but really nice pre-movie slides.

TheSkinsFan 08-20-09, 10:59 AM I don't know why, but on my first attempt, I'm getting serious stutter and video freeze starting at about 6 seconds in when I try to play the avi in VLC. It does it at different points in the video each time I play it --sometimes starting sooner, somtimes later.
It does the same thing with or without sound muxed in, so that ain't it.
Res: 1280x720

any ideas?
I'm going to try it again tonight, but this is very frustrating. :(
tlogan6797 08-20-09, 11:50 AM A I recall, once you burn to DVD it works fine.
TheSkinsFan 08-20-09, 12:58 PM A I recall, once you burn to DVD it works fine.
Well, it's happening in WMP as well, and burning to DVD won't work for me. I was planning to configure MediaBrowser to play this off of the same NAS that stores all of my media.
Maybe Win7 has something to do with it...? Was the RC1 version known for any codec (avi) issues?
Also, what's the difference between "AVI RAW" and "AVI Codec" for render output in Blender? I used "AVI RAW" for the first try...
I'll try to render another version tonight while I sleep. Wish me luck!
tlogan6797 08-20-09, 01:33 PM I think if you go WAAAY back in the thread, there is a piece of software that the RAW AVI needs to be run through and then it can be saved in DVD format and run off the HD or burned.
I just can't remember what it was and I haven't tried to make a new one since last year when my HD crashed and I lost all that stuff. I'm at work and don't have time to go back through this thread and dig it all up.
As I recal there were three steps....
Blender to AVI jpg (about 600 individual jps...HUGE file)
Software (freeware, at the time anyway) to combine the RAW jpg (which looks like crap when if you try to run at this stage)
Software (freeware, at the time anyway) to Mux the audio
There WAS a really nice tutorial a while back.

I'll keep digging through the thread, but I think you're referring to conversion to .vob format for burning to a DVD. Also, I didn't use the .jpg output. I chose the "AVI RAW" output instead, which results in one large AVI.
I did manage to fix part of my problem... for five minutes -- I installed ffdshow and ac3filter on this system and managed to get the ac3 version working in VLC, but now, after a yet-another-reboot, both versions are back to stuttering and freezing in VLC, MPC, or WMP.
Don't know what the problems are there. Maybe it's Windows 7 RC1.
I'm going to have to start over with a fresh render tonight.
Thanks for the help though!
wish me luck. :)
NEW AND IMPROVED "FOX STYLE INTRO" TUTORIAL!!!
Months ago, I read through this entire thread and made one of my own. I couldn't find some dead links on the first page, and got really frustrated. I decided to create my own "how-to" thread. Here is a link...
http://www.mediabrowser.tv/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1404
My tutorial is a step by step procedure on how to create one, and where to find some of the dead linked stuff in this thread.
Everyone is welcome to hit me up for a custom .blend to get you started in the right dirrection. I have added one of these to all my BD to .MKV rips, as well as encoding them into my DVD rips.
Hope this helps guys, and good luck.

How large is the file?? I have that issue when its first animated, I think its because of the shear size of the raw avi.
I'm running Windows 7 RC, having no issues with my intros.
Try looking at my tutorial link above, you may find it usefull. After you "compress" the raw avi, I think you may find it running much smoother. I dont recall W7 having "Windows Movie Maker" which I used to create my finished intro's though... I'm at work.
Hope this helps,
Well, it's happening in WMP as well, and burning to DVD won't work for me.
Look at the above posts. I use my intro's in Media Browser for "all" my movies. I think my tutorial works best.
Good luck,
tlmaclennan 08-21-09, 01:52 PM I would prefer to have the intro and movie separate. that way if I ever get tired of the intro or change it i don't have to re-edit all my movie collection.
I use the playlist tutorial on the Media Browser forums. That way I can have multiple intros and they are separate of my movies. Saves some space and allows me to customize the intros a lot easier.

Wow, thanks for the link tlmaclennan!
I'm a regular over at the Media Browser forums and I never saw that. Can you have it only play 1 or 2 intro's though?? 5 is a bit much for me.
I take that back, I read that thread when it first started.... Its come along since then. I'll have to try it when I get off work.
Well, anyway. My tutorial about making the intro should be of great help here.
landshark1 08-21-09, 04:16 PM Has anybody tried to do this thing in 1920x1080? Any issues? or is it simply overkill?
I rendered my final intro in 1980x1080 res., no problem here.
as for your issue, I think I remember you do need to convert the blend result (huge file) into something more resonable..... (it was stated somewhere in the thread I believe) I think I use Nero to convert the blend product into .mpg file which is just around 50MB in size.
tlmaclennan 08-21-09, 04:24 PM Yea, you don't have to use all 5 of the intros. The program randomizes which intro will play so that every time you watch a movie it should be a different intro. But you can do without the randomizer and set the playlist to play as many intros as you want.
Lets say you just want to have the FOX intro play. You save it a a separate file, point the playlist toward it's location, and save the playlist file in the same folder as the movie. so for The Dark Knight you would have Dark_Knight01.asx and Dark_Knight02.mkv, or whatever file type you save your movie as.
I think most front-ends will see this as one movie separated into two files. It will play the playlist first and then the main movie. You can do this for every movie you own (I have a batch program that will automatically create a playlist for any movie that doesn't have one and it renames the movie to 02). The multiple playlists take almost no space and they all point to that single intro. Beats having multiple intro videos, one per movie you own.
You can add as many intros to your playslist as you want.
TheSkinsFan 08-21-09, 05:24 PM Unfortunately, I don't have Movie Maker in Win7 RC, but I think I may have solved the problem using VirtualdubMod.
I'm able to output decent .avi's with it set to use the ffdshow H.264 codec. I set the bitrate to 10,000 and the result is a 22MB file that plays well in all of my players!
Next up: time to run a 1920x1080 render and then wrap it in mkv for the finale! :)
I also need to decide between AC3 and DTS audio...
Thanks for all the help guys!!!!
Can somebody please help me to remove the black bars from either side that appear after the render process?
I have tried by (I think ) going into camera mode, however the image is zoomed and I am not confident at Blender an dont want to start deleting parts of the image.
Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

I used the FOX_Logo_by_Matt_Hoecker-flickerfixed.blend file at 1280x720 resolution, and I don't see any black bars in the finished product.
Which blend file did you use, and at what resolution? Can you provide a screenshot of the bars?

Hi TheSkinsFan - thanks for your response :)
I think I am using the original FOX_Logo_by_Matt_Hoecker.blend file at 600 x 600. Sorry I don't have a screen shot but you can see a think black bar either side of the animation which is worst when your viewing the intro at full screen. There was some vague steps to remove the bars but I couldn't do it :(
Could you send me or point me where I could find the fixed blend file pls?
