Many sites still advertise Divx playback for these units, and the official Panasonic site also used to state it before they changed their site.
Some of these units can play Divx, and some can't.
I was wondering that since many Panasonic DMR-ES15s around the world can play Divx, shouldn't there be a Firmware upgrade out there to enable Divx playback in the units that can't play it?
Even Videohelp states that the unit is indeed Divx capable.

I have been looking for the same thing. I wish someone could make this firmware available. I guess we'll just have to keep looking. :(

There is no mention of Divx in the description, and the date on the update is 2 May, 2006.

From what I have read, the non USA units play Divx, but the USA models do not.

The Panny USA DVD recorders with HDD (EH75V and EH55) play Divx, though.

For Panny's to play Divx files, do you just burn the Divx file to a CD as a CD data disc or does it have to be some other specific format? Do they recognize the presence of multiple Divx files and create a selection menu or does the disc have to have some playlist file? Can the files be on DVD as well as CD?

I just burn the files to root as a data DVD (i.e., no folders). CD didn't work for me plus it was insufficient capacity for Home Theater DIVX profile. Once the DIVX disc is recognized, the Panny (EH75V) shows a menu of playable files. Transport controls (FF/REV work for navigation).
