CD Japan Listing (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=PCBE-52450)

Sort of a skewed way to do it but not unlike some past Japanese releases during the LD/DVD transition phase. It looks like the release is getting more extras and material than the US release as well as the inclusion of a Japanese 5.1 track.

The fact that they removed the PCM track (about what 5gig-6gig), they can add all the extra stuff without touching the encoding..

Is it the same transfer, though, is the question.

i might be able to get my hands on a sample before release. but that wont have to be an indication of the real release. i will however check it out when it gets released here in japan.

Anyone noticed that it says "Layers: single-sided/dual-layered", could it be true or a typeo?

Thats the DVD version they are talking about not the Blu-Ray version. The version shown on that link is a deluxe boxset including the 3 disc DVD version and a single disc Blu-Ray disc or at least thats how i read it.

Description
DVD release of the hit horror film "Silent Hill" based off of the best-loved video game series of the same name. Ultimate box includes main feature, bonus disc with 60 minutes of making-of footage, additional bonus disc with comparison between the movie and game series by the Konami staff available only in the Japanese release of this film, and bonus Blu-ray disc with the original contents of discs one and two (main feature and making of footage--package also available without Blu-ray disc as product number PCBE-5244). Features deluxe box and booklet. * Please note that the included Blu-ray disc is only playable on Blu-ray compatible players and will not work on a standard DVD player.

That sounds like it's going to have the slim extras of the R1 DVD, with the Best Buy "Konami Silent Hill Experience" bonus DVD. Maybe....

I'd call that a rip off, especially considering the Japanese market has seen two excellent and very comprehensive Silent Hill game series-related DVDs over the past few years. The Art of Silent Hill and Lost Memories: The Art and Music of Silent Hill. They basically feature all the cut scenes, soundtracks, design art, and music videos related to the series.

Really, yeah you get a BD, but where's all the supplemental material that makes it live up to its "Ultimate Box" title?

I find it interesting that the BD has been foisted off to the status of "bonus feature" in a box set where the DVD is the main attraction.

CD Japan needs to start changing their region codes around for BR since they are now the US region code.

^ I don't think they list the region codes on Blu Ray discs. They have it listed on this one because 3 of the discs are DVDs (and region coded)

Agreed. If the Japanese disc has better PQ I'm in.
