Ok kind of dumb question, but here it goes. My wife and I were watching CSI the other night and about half way through I decided to record it since we were falling asleep. The next day we went back to watch it and it had recorded the whole show. I figured it would just play from where I hit the record button. After seeing this I'm assuming that this unit is setup to record what is on at the moment in the background and if you don't record it it overwrites later? Is this an option you can change? the directions for this DVR are pretty thin that I got for any extra settings on it.

It will buffer up to an hour of your current viewing channel. Or was it 90 mins, I can't remember. Anyway your box did exactly what it was supposed to do.

I thought thats that it did, but its nice to hear confirmation of that. Did I miss DirectTV's user guide for the DVR? I mean the one I got only shows how to really do the simple things. I don't ever really recall seeing something that listed the features of it or anything.

If you don't want to record the buffered segment, an easy solution is to change channels to clear the buffer, and then return to the desired channel before pressing the record button.

OTA is enabled in the Detroit market. Not sure about anywhere else.

Has anyone with an H20 had any luck upgrading to an HR20? I recently started a subscription with D* and have the H20. I was hoping to trade it in and get some money towards an HR20 but no luck when talking to Sales and also to Retention. They don't deem to understand what I want and that I recently paid $100 extra for a second H20.

I recently activated the OTA download, which must have happened around Christmas. This past weekend, I tried to record a 1:00 game off of Sunday Ticket and the Badgers B-Ball game on at the same time. It recorded neither--got about two hours of recording AFTER the football game was over, and none of the Badger game--it was listed but it started after the game and recorded about two seconds. I'll be honest, I think this thing is a piece of crap--the sports listings are almost never there, it couldn't perform the easiest of functions that the old TIVO did effortlessly--anybody else having similar problems?

There was a guide problem recently that affected all D* DVRs.

I have two HR20's. Both of them Act very strange on the 2nd Tuner. The signal jumps up and down on the 101 Sat in the upper transponders. Channels on those transponders are pixelated with audio dropouts. Its only the 2nd tuner and both HR20's do it. My HR10-250 HDTIVO does not do it, nor my SD TIVO or my R15. I can move the HR20 to any any connection on the Multiswitch and they still do it so I know its not wiring, and my other receivers are fine.

I have not received the 5 LNB dish yet (Still have 3 LNB). Could it be the dish or my 4x8 Multiswitch? If so why is it not affecting all the receivers? I have tried both with the little inline boxes that the HR20 uses on and off and it makes no difference. D* sent me a replacement for one of my HR20s when I called Tech support and it does the same thing! I have had D* for 11 years and am very tech savy and truly understand most of this stuff but this has one me stumped?

Tech is coming on Thursday to install 5 LNB dish and new Multiswitch but from my experience I usually know more than they do. Anyone elese seen this?

Thanks for your help!

I don't know if my problem is related or not, but for the second time now whenever watching in either recorded or delayed mode on channel 95 HD, which is MPEG4 I believe, my picture becomes very pixelated with audio dropouts.

If I clear the buffer and watch live, the pixelation goes away and picture is great. This is only on channel 95. The other channels are fine. Very frustrating.

Channel 95 is NOT MPEG4.

I just got my HR20-700 and I must say I am pretty disappointed. I thought this would be the next logical step to replace my HR10-250's.

So far I don't see any improvements on video quality, performance, or ease of use. The Tivo I think still blows this unit away. Maybe I just need some more time to play with it, but right now I am not very happy. If there are video improvements - can someone here tell me where to look for them at?

One bit of excitment was seeing the network, USB, and SATA connectors on the back.

Maybe some of the more experienced users here can help tell me what these do.

1. Can I hook this up to my network? Every time I try it seems to freeze or lockup. I have set all my IP addresses, gateware, DNS correctly - it even passes all the tests. Then about 1 minute later it locks up. Any suggestions?

2. If it does get on a network - can I stream video to this unit? If so what format? And does it allow you to stream HD content to it? Like .TS files? H264 Files? I don't really care about streaming audio or pictures - I have an XBMC for that.

3. Can you add more storage space with the USB port or the SATA port? If so how does it work and what do I need?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My HR10-250 hard drive failed and DTV sent me a HR20-700 as a replacement. Am I better off replacing the hard drive in the HR10 or keeping the HR20. I have read numerouse posts concerning the differences and the biggest issue for me is the lack of dual buffering on the HR20. Any comments or suggestions?

I had the same issue with a failed hard drive on my HR10-250. I have gone through 3 HR20-700's with pixelization problems using a Triple LNB dish. I called and spoke to a supervisor yesterday and he said I needed the new 5LNB dish for the HR20 to work best. He offered me a new dish and multi switch for free as well as another free HR20 so I took him up on the deal. The other offer was to keep the HR10 and he would credit my account $200 for having to buy a new hard drive to replace the bad one. I figured the other deal was better because by late this year (supposedely) there will be a lot more HD channels offered and you will need the HR20 and the 5LNB dish to receive them. I have my install scheduled for this Saturday so hopefully all goes well and I am up and running on my HR20. The 2nd HR20 is going to take me awhile to get but i'm really in no hurry since I have 2 other working and activated HR10's anyways.

Let us know what you decide...
