Great looking theater, R! Definitely one I will be putting on my short list of "theater pictures to borrow ideas from" :-) I like your tasteful choice of colors, and clean lines (no clutter). I'll go study your construction thread now...

Good luck on yours, I'll keep an eye on your thread when it gets going....

How about you leave. Don't let the door hit you on your sorry @$$.
Logic_BomB 10-03-06, 10:43 AM Awesome setup. Very utilitarian - This is what I see for myself in the future with some minor changes.
What I love is that it looks big enough to be a theater but small enough to still possibly have a basement outside that room (from the looks of things). It also doesn't look like the average joe wouldn't need to take out a loan to finance that room.
Total awesome.
gottahavapj 10-03-06, 10:56 AM Very tastefully done Sir. I'll bet you enjoy the "Wow's" when people walk through that door.
Very nice and a really clean set up. How is the ceiling? Do you get any reflection with the lighter color?
R_Willis: I really like your HT. The clean look and color scheme are really sharp.
Question: I see that you have some sort of material on the lower half of your walls surrounding the theater, but is that paint or treatment on the top part?

Yes, both the lower and upper walls are material treatments.

mcspeed 12-23-06, 11:01 PM Way Nice. I like how you set up the screen with the step up below and the angled corners. Are the speakers in the corners?
R_Willis 12-28-06, 01:07 PM Way Nice. I like how you set up the screen with the step up below and the angled corners. Are the speakers in the corners?
Left & right speakers are in the angled corners hidden behind the GOM701 fabric. The center speaker is directly centered below the screen, also behind the fabric.
Thanks for the compliments.
DrCheeks 01-03-07, 11:07 AM Very nice and cozy. Great color scheme. I think I may use those also. What are the dimensions of your room? What color is the carpet? Did you paint the ceiling also?

Oops, I see the answers to my questions now.
BasicBlak 01-05-07, 02:42 AM Superb job, R! If you're not careful, I'd imagine your next of kin will have to send a search party after you from being holed up in such a fabulous theater. Hat's off to you, bud! :)
Kai Winters 01-08-07, 09:47 AM Very nice looking room.
If is sounds as good as it looks you have one heck of a theatre.
Enjoy
That is a very nice set up.
ImDiesel 01-19-07, 01:44 AM amazing... consider me jealous...
R_Willis 01-19-07, 01:17 PM Appreciate all the nice comments.
ImDiesel 01-19-07, 10:18 PM looks awesome...
only negative i can see is the wiring in the component rack... looks kinda just thrown in there...
clean that up, and it would be on point...

It's DEFINATELY on the to do list. It looks like a bomb hit the area in there.
I was trying to wait till I got some extra pieces of gear I wanted, and ran a few extra cables (HDTV distribution via 2 CAT5e to multiple rooms & RG59/+power for security cameras).
Got a ton of heat shrink, zip-ties, cable organizers, and etc ready to fix that mess up when I get around to it!
JBLsound4645 01-21-07, 01:36 AM Very impressive, the screen fronts are they matching placed behind a perforated screen?
I can’t see the surrounds in the two pictures above due to the angle and the lighting, but I would go for two or three surrounds down the sidewalls to add a little, more low end as possible. The overall look of the room is very nice, I like it. :p
tonyfan70 01-27-07, 01:29 PM Not very good, but I am hoping to get a much better setup in the near future
Hey R_Willis...I think that you have a very nice setup, shows alot of thought going into the construction.
Hey pirate...I'd be willing to bet that R_Willis has a MUCH better time relaxing and enjoying his system than you do sitting on a milk crate "dreaming" about what to get!
karener 01-27-07, 06:16 PM Very nice!

edgebert 03-09-07, 11:41 PM thx for all the details on your set-up. the pictures especially help with the 'researching'.
EnzoPolotso 03-10-07, 02:21 AM I love the front stage, with the screen and angled walls, but the seating arrangement is a little too "commercial" for my taste... I guess I still want to feel like I'm at home even with a setup that sounds better than the local theater, big couches, lots of friends.
SVSKate 03-10-07, 08:57 AM nice and clean. gonna look into Berkline 090s :P
thanks for showing ^^
WillyGib 03-10-07, 10:06 AM Very nicely done. I really like the large lower stage area. From the photo it looks like it comes just about to the first row of seating. How much room is between the seating to the stage? I don’t remember seeing another theater with a stage like yours. In most home theaters there is always a large empty area in the front, but the way you did it, it fills that area with an architectural element. Love it. I think I will steal that idea for my new theater. :D
Oh! Looking at your photos again I took the edge of the seat of the chair as the end of the stage. My mistake, but still a nice job.
Nice job R_Willis.
But the light color of the ceiling... doesn't that affect picture quality?
As for future upgrades, do you consider the JVC DLA-HD1?
hotchip 03-16-07, 02:35 AM that setup is awesome, the inside of the equipment rack would look great black, and also hide the cables. Gotta say im a bit jealous :)
airman210 08-27-07, 10:55 AM Nice color scheme; nice space! :)

Uptown193 10-18-07, 11:04 PM Hey man nice set up, looks great, i cant wait for one day to own my own house or condo so i can do what you did. It must have been a lot of fun building that and now watching movies.
I wanted to buy a Audio rack for my HT equipment but seeing how you built your i got inspired and now i know what im going to do this weekend and next. Build my own. That the least I can do for myself and save a couple of hundred dollars. Thanks. I will post pics when done.
R_Willis 10-18-07, 11:08 PM Glad my pix/writeup could help someone! Have fun building.
Lil' Louie 10-20-07, 07:48 PM Awsome work! :)

Hello R_Willis.
It's been a long time since someone has posted in your thread and I just think that your true Home theater (front projector/large screen) ranks very high in this section and those who are new to this area and haven't taken the time to see some of the older entries are missing out.
You have a very nice room. I know you mentioned that you would eventually acquire a HDDVD or Bluray player. Has that happen yet? Or have you made any modifications to your theater recently?!
Regards.
Oh man, good job on bumping this one ld... I've got to go back and check out some of the earlier threads because R_Willis' setup is amazing!!
His room is big but not huge, and it just goes to show that with proper furniture and equipment placement you can make it look A LOT bigger than it is.
Again, excellent looking setup!
Aaron Gilbert 01-07-09, 02:10 PM R_Willis,
That's a great looking room you have, very professional! I love the seating, the stage and raised rear platform, the molding on the floor and walls, all of it! It just goes to show you don't need a big room to get a real theater-like feel.
R_Willis 01-13-09, 05:02 PM Thanks for the recent comments people. I feel my room turned out pretty well.
I enjoy spending time in it watching HDTV sports and the occasional movie.
ldgibson76: actually still haven't picked a Blu-Ray player yet, got any recommendations? I haven't done much of anything to the theater, currently working on finishing my huge rec-room (w/ bar) which is right outside the theater in the basement. I did get some cool wall art (ticket, movie-reels, and clapboard) for the wall outside the theater doors.
Rogozhin 01-13-09, 11:54 PM That's a great looking setup, well done!
Rogo
NYCHTBoy 01-15-09, 12:50 AM Wow. That is the look I am chasing. It is a little longer than mine but 18' x 16' room will suit nicely.
mconley1015 01-19-09, 02:31 PM I could only dream of this theater! Excellent!
ldgibson76 01-20-09, 08:45 PM R_Willis
ldgibson76: actually still haven't picked a Blu-Ray player yet, got any recommendations?
Hello R_Willis.
I apologize for failing to answer your inquiry about recommended Bluray players. Here's the deal...., the Panasonic DMP-BD35 and BD55 are highly regarded players. The main difference between the 2 is the 35 and the 55 is that 1) the 55 has 7.1 multi-channel out and can decode TDHD and DTS-HD/MA and send that hi-rez signal to an AVR with 7.1 multi-channel in, therefore allowing you to enjoy the lossless audio.
The 35 only has stereo (L&R) out, but can bitstream via HDMI, the hi-rez audio to an AVR that has the capability to decode the signal. Both use Panny's UniPhier video processor and is said to out perform the Sony BDP-S350 and the Samsung non-HQV equipped BD-P1500 in upscaling to 1080P.
Now the Sony BDP-S550 is a nice player and the highly anticipated BDP-83 by Oppo! It will be a true universal player capable of playing all audio formats plus bluray! It will most likely set a whole new standard for stand-alone media players! Oh yeah, must not forget the Sony PS3.
I hope this helps.
Regards.
sbwoodside 01-21-09, 12:50 AM Fantastic. It looks like someone has taken a commercial theatre and shrunk it down to the right size for three people. Perhaps you should run some strip lights along the floor so you can find your seat in the dark?
