View Full Version : Are basic DVR/PVR playback functions missing from all media streamers?

As a long time DVR/PVR user, I've grown accustomed to having certain basic features available (e.g. Skip forward). I thought that these were so intuitive that they would be present on media streamers as well. So I bought my first one, the ADSTech Medialink, at a discount price, and was disappointed that these features are not present. The Medialink is a solid playback device, but is very vanilla. So now I'm looking again for a streamer that does HD but also has PVR playback functions. At least in the manuals I've looked at so far, I'm not seeing them.

Want List:
SKIP FORWARD (~30s)
JUMP BACK (~7s)
GOTO time
SEARCH FORWARD/BACK (visible)
RESUME from last played
Timecode available on screen
Change aspect ratio, stretch, zoom, letterbox, etc. (on the fly)
DELETE source file

HD DivX playback
MPEG2TS (ATSC) playback

Can anyone point me to a box that provides these features? Thanks for any help.

The lack of response to this question confirms my own fruitless search. I don't know how someone who is used to a full PVR can tolerate the severe limitations of a media streamer. I'd rather go with a cheap or used PC and PVR software [bait].

PVR functionality is only offered in PC's and dedicated devices... I have 5 tivos and an equal # of xboxes and the tivo is used for TV and XBMC for everything else. The only choice for an all in one solution is an HTPC/HTMAC....

This thread is six months old. Has there been any improvement in the ability of media players to navigate video content?
