View Full Version : My Custom Equipment and Gear logos!
Gary Murrell
09-05-06, 03:05 PM
hey guys
I thought I would share these things if anyone was interested
I have had some free time and decided to set down and make some equipment/gear logos for my equipment in my HT setup using my photoshop skills
these Logos are Gold and are 8x10 in size, if I get the logos up, a simple stop over at a photo studio(like Wally or pharmacy etc.) one can print these out and you have high quality logos that look sharp as a tack in your HT room and show off your favorite gear brands
I take requests for signs, simply post in the thread or PM
I am doing this free of any charge, I am simply doing it for the fun of it and to provide something to AVS folks, if you want to donate a few $'s for my time you are free to do so
here is a donation link:
Donation Link For My HT Signs (http://home.bigsandybb.com/gmurrell/donation.html)
here are a few I have worked on recently for my setup, of course these are compressed and resized which ruins quality, full 8x10 bmps are what these come from

http://home.bigsandybb.com/gmurrell/logos/Velodyne2.jpg
http://home.bigsandybb.com/gmurrell/logos/Panamax2.jpg
here is the link to these logos provided by Serge(Power) who is greatly appreciated for the webspace, you must PM one of us to get the access info:

I am a cheap DIY bastard but also don't like cheap looking stuff ;) I was amazed at how good these look on my wall, high rez graphics in photoshop make all the difference

-Gary

Beautiful speakers in my opinion:) Now how do i get high rez versions of these? Sending you a PM some time tonight.
thanks Gary,
now i wonder how those dolby digital, DTS and THX logos we see on the forum all the time would look with your skills incorperated? Even a nice silver for the THX if doable... Time to buy some more ink for my photo printer:)
Gary Murrell
09-05-06, 09:08 PM
Of course I will make Dolby/DD Plus/DTS/THX/HD-DVD/BR/D-VHS/ etc etc and many more

Jester I have been getting tons of requests and can make anything of course, I will make anything for free just need a little time to complete, if folks wanted they could donate a few bucks for a request, but I am doing this for free, I have got tons of help from AVS and love to return it
thanks guys, glad you like them, I need a place to upload these to for sure, I could see myself having hundreds of them soon ;)
-Gary
Gary, where are you getting the logos? For instance, if you had never heard of Monitor Audio, where did you go to get a logo to work with?
Just curious,
ND
Gary,
let me see what i can do for you to upload to my site...
ND,
i think Gary has heard of Monitor Audio, they are the best speakers in the world but i'll save that for the speakers forum. I think he was just kidding...I will not get flamed for saying that as much here:)
Gary Murrell
09-05-06, 10:48 PM
Power I had not heard of monitor audio :( looks like great gear for sure ;)
weird I hadn't heard of them as there ain't much that I haven't got wind of :)
Logos are easy to get just gotta know where to dig on their websites :)
thanks guys
-Gary
Gary,
you have a PM. i'll forgive you :) and i have some web space for you too...

Good looking work!
Reminds me of the signs that "signman200" is selling on eBAY.
Gary Murrell
09-06-06, 11:19 AM
Yeah I saw those, don't like the silver nor the prices :D
I have FTP space now thanks to Serge and will start uploading these suckers
I think I will put these up as PNG's

How about:
Denon
Danley Soundlabs
Klipsch THX Ultra2
Pioneer Elite
Sony "SXRD"
Philips Pronto
HD DVD / BluRay
PS3 / Xbox360
I threw some I would be interested in and some generic names that might appeal to a broad audience...
Gret Work!!!
If you could improve upon these two by signman200 (on eBay), that would be cool:
http://i2.ebayimg.com/04/i/08/1a/9e/9f_1_b.JPG
http://i22.ebayimg.com/03/i/08/13/8c/b0_1_b.JPG
I've got the .eps files for each of these two logos, if that will help you in any way.
I'm a big fan of that bottom reflection you do!

Gary,
I really like the reflective signs that you are making. I purchased a few from signman2000 on ebay, I like yours much more. If I may I would like to add B&K audio , Infinity speakers and Adcom to your list. Thanks for your great work, your signs are awesome.

Have these been uploaded somewhere yet? They look great and I would love to get the Sherwood Newcastle one. Parasound and Mirage speakers (not omnipolar) would also be nice to have.
Gary,
let me know if you need anything else, looking forward to the pics as well:)
guys,
contact myself or Gary via PM and we will send you the username and password info for the downloads.
here is the link:
http://www.htauthority.com/public_ftp/Gary/
I agreed to host the files on our site and the only thing that i ask is that members use these files for their personal use, they are not for resale or distribution. I mention this simply because we do not wish to get into trouble. For personal use it's okay (just like the dvd demo disks available on the forum).
Gary has several files up now, a big thank you to him and i believe we have the FTP all set-up and ready to go.
here is the link, i decided to use regular web browser for this so members do not have to fiddle around with FTP clients.
http://www.htauthority.com/public_ftp/Gary/
members still must request access from myself or Gary.
Gary Murrell
09-11-06, 06:09 PM
you got it Serge, great idea on the HTTP:// and not posting the code for the entire world to see :D
guys simply PM me and I will supply the access info
I will also setup a donation link for a few bucks if anyones wants to send something over, in no way do I request money and will be doing this for free for AVS folks, but thank you if you want to send a buck or 2 ;)
I will be updating the title post with what available logos are on there at any given time
they will all be lossless PNG
hope everyone enjoys them

How about:
NHT
Parasound
ReplayTV
Hitachi
Monster Power
Sdallnct
09-12-06, 04:12 PM
1st if you could PM with access to the site, I would really appreciate (if you want a PM from me 1st, I can do that).
2nd, would you consider non-HT signage? I just built a bar next to my HT and might be interested in a Guinness or Fat Tire sign for it.
3rd, I would love to throw a little bling your way for your time/effort
Thanks!
Sdallnct,
sent you a PM.
guys,
is everything okay so far? This should be straightforward via HTTP instead of FTP i would think. FTP requires a learning curve sometimes depending on software used. I know ND23 and myself were discussing this so i figured keep it simple and i am assuming all is well.
I am not FTP genius by any means:)
CollinViegas
09-12-06, 05:17 PM
Im interested in a few Signs:
SXRD
Klipsch
Danley Soundlabs
Pronto Proffesional

Lutron
I know my list is long but I too would not mind sending you a few bucks for your time and most on my list are generic so I am sure many others would appreciate them aswell.
Also Power verything seems to be working fine for me...
Very good Collin,
don't feel bad, my list submitted to poor Gary was at least twice as long...
Sorry Gary:)
Gary Murrell
09-12-06, 06:54 PM

I added a donation link to the title post, don't abuse and send me large amounts :), I am doing this for AVS folks no charge, if you want to send something over I appreciate the kindness

I was thinking of that aswell but figured gary would have to get in touch with Ruben and ask for his official logo rather than just make one up for him...

Read the very first post.

09-14-06, 02:38 PM
Paradigm is up there, I will work on these requests and the previous ones soon, some logos I have attempted to do cannot be done because no sources are available, this is rare, but will happen occasionally :(
I suggest placing these on a CD and heading to a photo center like Wal-Mart or etc., they will be 100% professional and look it also ;)
I have have some pics up soon of mine
thanks guys
-Gary
Gary,
let me know if you need some logos of the theater seating, i have those on hand;) Better yet i will send them to you...
edit: Gary, how big do you need the logos and what is the preferred format? Some of the logos are pretty smallish so i am unsure as to what extent you can work your magic to enlarge them.

Great work Gary.
Is Berkline and Carada Criterion Series already on the list?
Gary Murrell
09-14-06, 04:09 PM
these boutique makers are gonna be tough to make signs for, logos are not available in sufficient size to make my signs look good
I need logos to be high quality uncompressed PNG, BMP or etc. and to be massive
I will work digging for sources, but some are not gonna be able to be done sadly
unless someone people have connections at brands that would want to supply the logos to folks who own their gear, if someone wants to contact a maker and request their logo and send it over to me, you know I will make it :)

How do I access these files to look at them... The link asks for a password... :)
Gary,
let us know which logos you need and i'm sure the forum community will pull together and lend a hand. Maybe post them here?
ok next step for me is some nice 8x10 frames in bulk. We have a source and have to check pricing first but some of the lots on Ebay look pretty appealing. 4-6 frames ranging from $6-$30 for the lots. Not bad if you buy in bulk. I will make up a dozen or so of Gary's logos for my theater so i'll need a dozen frames for them.
If anyone can point us to a good buy please share your source with us:)

the frames I like are a nice simple small black, called the Format Frame by MCS:

Got my password. Thanks for the site Gary. As a semi-literate computer guy, how do I get logo's from website to hanging on my wall. Would appreciate steps to download, format and where to get printed.
Thanks,

Meariesguy: To download right click and save as or whatever save options you have for your browser. If you have a walmart close to you i think you can go right on there website and send them to the store then pick up. Alot of other stores like pharmacy's will print them also but im not sure about the online feature.
meariesguy
09-16-06, 04:32 AM
So you don't need to format the size? It will print the proper proportion?
nick2003
09-16-06, 05:03 AM
Yeah the only thing you half to do is select 8by10 where you print it.
Gary Murrell
09-16-06, 03:43 PM
my logos are made to 100% exact 10x8 porportions at 300DPI, no scaling or etc.

Not sure if these have been requested, but how about....
Ascend Acoustics
Outlaw Audio
Regarding getting glossy photo paper for printing these at home, whats is the official "paper" size required (like A3, A4, B5 etc?). Looking in Photoshop, I dont see a 10x8 size as standard.
Those are beautiful! Well done.
PM to follow! ;)
Gary,
Excellent work. As usual I have some requests meself:-
BenQ
Em, thats it!!!
How about adding "Whafedale" (my speakers).
Not sure if you already have
Yamaha (sub)
PS2 , PS3, XBOX 360
infocus
How about a generic "HTPC" logo.
Oh and of course the usual DTS-ES, DD-EX, THX stuff.
PM soon to follow.

Gary,

It looks fairy simple for a majority of them, but Gary I hope you know photoshop well enough to script most of the actions properly. If your not doing that it might save a lot of time.
I made some logo signs out of wood before. Krazy but works and fits well for my vintage audo equipment.
Awesome initiative! I'd second the Ascend Acoustics logo would be neat, as well as a HSU research logo! Any chance you can PM me a user/pass to access what you currently have?
Thanks!

Do we know if Gary is working on adding more or has he "moved on"?
Do we know if Gary is working on adding more or has he "moved on"?
<total speculation>Probably moved on</total speculation>...
I was thinking he hadn't been on the AVS site for a while, but I see he's been actively posting in the other forums.
The only way you're going to know is to PM him and get the answer from the source...

I'm assuming he's moved on.
He's been on he regularly, but hasn't posted to this thread in over a month. I sent him 2 pm's regarding the logos, but never heard back.
I guess we're on our own to work on new ones. Could I simply open one of the .png logos with photoshop and write HD-DVD instead of one of the other manuf? I really don't know much about photoshop

It's free to join but you do have to confirm an email address. this is more to keep spiders from downloading the images than anything else.
I hate to sound like a total noob here but 'tinstudio'? And by register you mean pay to be an 'official' member?

Prismasonic (they make anamorphic lenses)
HiSense (make my HDTV OTA tuner)
USDTV (again, my OTA tuner)
Terk (OTA antennaes)
DCDI by Faroudjia
DVD Audio
SACD
HDCD

DTS-HD (is there one for Master Audio yet?)
Anything like "Widescreen" or Cinemascope...something that show the 3 most popular aspect ratios? Sort of like the panavision thing at the end of movies? Thats sort of cool
The only other question I had is if there is a way to change the gold to silver online somewhere before I download them? I don't mean for you to change them all, but is there a website I can doctor the pics to change the color scheme at, or do I need my own "photoshop" type thing? Just asking! This is great. As far as silver goes, the only thing you can do is print them in black and white but I'm not sure how they'll look. The final images are jpgs. The only way I can make them silver is to redo them.

Ditto on the "silver" thing, Fool. I've done everything in my power to banish that gold decor from my home. The wife and I are more into the satin nickel or brushed and polished nickel two-tone thing. If we ask for particular ones to be re-done in silver, would you consider doing that for a modest fee, Jason? Also, I may have missed it, but are you just snagging vector art from places like brandsoftheworld and then photoshopping them with a standard process you have? I've got PHototshop CS2 at home, but haven't fired it up. If it's fairly simple to just tweak the colors, I'd be happy to do my own in different colors or whatever, rather than ask you to do it.
Feel free to smack me if this was already answered as far as the process goes.
Regs,
Jeff

As far as siler goes there are 2 options. Create new ones or print them black and white. Not sure how the black and white will look though. You might even try print them on a brashed silver paper.
These were all created as an extension of what Gary originally created, hence the gold.
As far as making new one, I'm kinda swamped right now with work. I may me a ble to do it sometime but it won't be for at least a couple of weeks.
I will also get to the latest requests when I get a sec.
Shan, nice.

Jason,
Will you be making the repository of EPS and other vector art files available on Tin Studio.... just so those of us that want to try our hand at doing these ourselves won't have to search the world to find the logos you've already tracked down? I know you are swamped with doing these already and what with the work you'll be doing on the voiceover stuff, yikes. Thanks again for everything you do for this community!
Regs,
Jeff
Those of you wanting these in other colors and have access to Photoshop can easily change the gold to whatever color you want. Though I used a plugin to get the effect I wanted, you can search for tutorials that will give you a similar look using Photoshops built-in filters.
I think the original gold that mheadroom uses has a clean, classy feel to it. I know that it does not always go with your decor, so I'm just offering up a couple of alternatives that can be made :)

Justin,

Thanks,

I do not know what plugin he used, but both of the affects are pretty stright forward in Photoshop without a plug in. I do not know the steps for chorme off the top of my head (but in CS and CS2, you can do bevel and emboss and use double ring in the gloss method or something like that). The second, brushed metal effect is very simple to achive. You select your object, apply a gradient fill that goes from light to dark and then back to a light gray (or the reverse). Then use the noise filter to add monochromatic noise (I set to 12.5). Then apply the Motion Blur filter to blur the noise to the left with a pixel distance of 75.
When I get home, I can post some simple Chrome instructions, if you need them.
Shan
Jeff,
I used the Alien Skin Eye Candy 5: Impact plugin for each of the effects, but as Shan stated you don't actually need a plugin to get the same effect. I just used it because I have it and it only takes one click to make it look good. Without the plugin it may take two or three clicks for the brushed aluminum and a few more than that for the chrome. There are plenty of online tutorials on how to to these effects.
These guys (http://www.eyesondesign.net/pshop/chrometext/chrometext.htm) have a good one for chrome and these guys (http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tutorials/cb/aluminum.html) have a good one for brushed aluminum.
If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

I did a bunch of work on the library today.
1. I filled the last 2 requests.

3. I started prepping my logos so I can automate creation of new versions of the signs. I took some cues from jnrock's brushed sign and threw up some samples. Let me know what you think.

Jason,
I'm a big fan of the black background images with the lens flare and the reflection, but like Iceblade and FoolintheRain, I have silver accents in my room - not gold. The wife doesn't want me to introduce the gold, so we're excited about the new brushed aluminum background, but then we lose the cool lens flare and reflection.
So, I told her I'd at least ask... would it be possible to get a version where the original black-background-with-lens-flare-and-reflection is retained, but the gold color of the logo and rectangular border is changed from gold to silver? Does your newly-completed automation make this a reasonable request?
Thanks in advance,
ND

Thanks if you can help. I love the black and gold!
Cheers,
Jay

ND, the problem with automating a lens flare is that it's in a different position based on the size of the logo. I'm going to play around with a few ideas and see if I can pull something off. I'll let you know how it comes out.
Jay0001,
Shouldn't be a problem. give me a day or 2 and I'll get on it.

I here these images look fantastic when they are printed out, at least according to my wife. I have a little bit of a dilema here. My wife went to the local Walmart to print these images off and they would not allow her to purchase them yet wihout written and signed consent from the original creator .
Anyway, anybody have any suggestions on how to get these printed out and around the gestapo at the walmart photo center?

To heck with 'em... take your business to Target, Walgreens, Costco, or any of the other various options you may have. If there's truly no other option in town, upload them to snapfish, photoworks, Yahoo! pictures, etc.
Or you could tell Walmart no thanks, then try again in a week and hope someone less strict is working the counter that day.
Good luck!

Uploaded beta-hi-fi and laser disc.
ND,
There's no real way to automate the lens flare so it positions itself correctly. I may give it a wack later and see how long it would take to redo them in silver for ya. I'll let you know.
Thanks Jason.
If you'd like, I could do it for myself, but I'd need your .psd files (assuming you did these in Photoshop).
I'm mainly looking for dts-es, Dolby Digital EX, HDTV, DLP, DCDi-1, InFocus, polkaudio, Sony, and this-theater-1... if you don't feel like doing all of them again.

Well, I finally got my images printed. The good folks at Walgreens printed them up for me no questions asked.
I would like to thank mheadroom for making these fantastic looking images and allowing us fellow AVSers to use them. They look even better printed out than they do on screen.
Now to find some frames to put these into. Anybody have any suggestions on what type of frame and were to get them? I will be looking this weekend to see if I can find something.
