Hi,
Just found this device which seems to not be in that wonderful XLS with all the players that I found here (THANKS a million!) There are actually two different devices with similar options (3500 TVisto and 3500 IPTV), other than the price I could not find why IPTV is better than TVISTO. Both are rather cheap at 150 $ / 250 $ respectivly.

Info I found is here:
{can't post URL's yet, see my next post...}

It can be bought here:
{can't post URL's yet, see my next post...}

Does anyone know anything about this device? I'm mainly interested in playing my DVD's (via .iso best)...

Thanks in advance for any info!

Cheers

Peter

Had my TVisto for about 6 months. All-in-all, I've enjoyed it. Good $120 spent. I've got a 400Gb Maxtor in it now, with picts, movies and audio. But this product has some shortcomings:

1. No streaming. No network. No uploading or downloading to the box while its in player mode. You must reboot the device before and after you plug in your USB or Firewire to swap files. You can't do this with the remote. You also can't leave the USB or Firewire cable plugged in and use it in player mode. Designed to be very isolated.

2. If we forget to turn it off, the screen saver comes on. No big deal. Until we've ignored it for 10 minutes or so. At that point, you can wake it from the screen saver, but that's about it- the remote and buttons on the front become completely unresponsive. Required a serious reboot - i.e. flip the switch in the back. (This maybe a bug that can be fixed, if so please let me know.)

3. There is no control over color or brightness or contrast. Specifically, my TVisto has problems with crazy oversaturated reds - they actually pullsate!! Hellboy took on a whole new meaning.

4. Multipart movies don't transition seemlessly and they have to be the only two items in a folder so that the playall button works.

5. Has a buttom for "playall random", but it doesn't apply to subfolders. This is a real pain when I want to leave pictures flipping by in the background at a party for example.

6. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT FOR A PICTURE VIEWER OR MP3 PLAYER!! They're just cute little add ons. You should relie on them no more than that. Picts are often stretched or distorted.

7. The Iso feature is very cool - don't use it alot because full DVDs take up too much space, but its cool. You can use all the usual navigation features very effectively. I say that to say....controlling a compressed movie is like drinking from a firehose. Fastforward jumps too far, rewind does the same. Very clunky. We've learned to hit the pause button fast.

8. I have had minimal lipsync issues - it mostly depends on how my "friends" have ripped a movie. Adjusting the aspect ratio is very clunky. And I still haven't figured out how to best rip my own movies to play optimally on this thing.

If the MG-35 didn't have a markup of $20 for network ability, I definitely would have bought it. Not too sure I shouldn't have. But this works for now. Wouldn't give it to my grandmother, but its usable.

Oh - sorry I don't have any HD info for you guys - still on a plain ol TV.

If anyone here owns the IPTV streaming version, can you describe how it handles fastward and rewind for divx files? Is there a way to jump ahead, like in 5 minute intervals or something? Or is it just fastward and rewind? Perhaps it would be similar the nonstreaming version? Klmathome, can you describe a little more how fast forwarding and rewinding works for divx files? Thanks!!!

I owned and configured several Tvisto 3500. With a 750GB drive, you can put a good amount of movies in it. I completely agreed with klmathome about all the shortcoming of this device. But it is well worth the $120 investment because it gave the wife and the kids enough movies to last the 20 hrs trip.

As for the IPTV streaming version, I was hoping that it can take the existing directories of my NAS box, but it didn't. It didn't even see my NAS box! It two USB port, but only recognize FAT32 disk --- not good.

I am still looking hard for a simple streaming device that can just read whatever I have in my NAS box and stream it. That will be my dream come true!

I have the streaming version and I'm pretty happy with it. I have 500gb of Pictures, Music and videos (some MPEG2, some DIVX some .ts mostly HD). FF/RR has 4 speeds and you can also skip to certain points (10%, 20% etc). See the manual on their site for more questions or feel free to contact me.

What brand of HD are you using, the TVisto indicates that it supports only 500Gb's

I have a TVisto 3500U2F. Does anyone know about the VGA output that the Op. Manual lists
I can not find any information. Also has somebody modified this to work with a Removable Hard Drive.

The Tvisto units use a VGA-AV cable that connects to the same port on the device as the provided component video cable. I have tried very hard to get a VGA cable for this device, but have been unsuccessful. It is advertised as being able to output 1024x768 resolution.

I'm looking at the Galaxy Metal Gear Tvisto 3500 too. How does it do with playing Divx files on a 16:9 TV? My samsung HT-P38 divx dvd player letterboxes divx files, so I have to stretch the video to get the aspect ratio correct.

I've had the 3500 Pro for a couple weeks now.

1) Playing ISO over a LAN is not working out so well. Every ISO has severe audio chop when using the encoded digital option. Several ISOs freeze at points between chapters/titles/vobs, such as the ratings card. Any blip in the ISO that your dvd player would grind its way through is a catastrophic failure on this box.

2) HD WMV are not playing at all, either over LAN or on the local HDD

3) The local HDD must be formatted FAT32 to use copying/moving features of the box, which means files cannot be over 4GB(just about every ISO). I have formatted mine NTFS which means I have to uplug it, move it to my computer and copy files over via the USB cable.

4) Audio playback seems limited to one audio track at a time.

5) A few ISOs still have severe audio chop when played on the local HDD.

I have the Tvisto 3500 and the remote stopped working. Does anyone know of a universal remote that will work with the Tvisto. Or a place where I could find a replacement remote?

My remote died too. I used a Logitec Harmony remote until buying another TVisto. Now I use the one remote for both units [connected in different places] But, it's good to know that the Harmony has the TVisto in it's database.

Ok I purchased this Tvisto Pro 2 weeks ago and I put a 1.5TB Drive in it.
Formatted it to FAT 32, transferred files to it and it plays on my TV
Great, fine, BUT I Cant get the NETWORK to connect to my computer.

I can see the IP address and I can Ping it but if I try to access the drive VIA Network using FIREFOX it says
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

I configured the settings to PC1 to my computer and I am using a D-link DI-624 Router.

I also tried to Map it as a Network drive and I can't, I am Using Windows XP.

I tried \\192.168.0.XXX and \\192.168.0.XXX{name of folder on hd}

and it I can see ion both instances that the Network Light on the Tvisto Pro blinks, then stops.

Is there any thing I am missing ??? The manual is not that great!

Also I cant copy a ISO or any file larger then 4GB using The Fat32 File System is there anyway around this ?

You really dont need to create folders.
I have mine setup like...

Movies
Tv Shows
Music
Pictures
Other

you can create any folders you want,

I formatted mine to Fat32
I used Acronis Disk Director Suite to format it. You can use almost any Free Program Similar to this one.
( I originally had it at NTFS ) but I was trying to stream TV Shows from my Win XP Computer and I could not get it to work so I called Tech service and they said that Fat32 was better because the operating system that the TvistoPro uses is Linux and Ntfs might cause playback quality problems.

So I Reformatted it to FAT32 and Then Created Folders and I use DVD Shrink to Shrink DVD ISO files & any others to 3.99 Gigs or under so I would not have a problem with the 4 gig limit.
I have my Tvisto hooked up to a Vizio HDTV with 1080i and when you shrink your DVD's to under 4Gigs it DOES NOT AFFECT the picture Quality at all. if you do need to put any kind of files that are larger then 4gigs then You can Use WinRar and Split it up to copy it onto the Drive then Reconnect it after it is on there.

I am in the middle of converting my personal DVD Collection to My Tvisto so I can watch them easier and when you shrink them you will be able to fit a whole lot more! I still have not reached 1/2 capacity of my disk! I also Have DIVX and AVI files on it also and TV Shows are around 350megs still Look terrific!

I still have not been able to use the network to stream movies from my XP Computer but I was able to do it on a Linux Computer. So I am still trying to figure out the Win XP firewall settings, and network setup.
Also you might get 1 or 2 other folders after awhile auto generated This is Normal (Keep these files TVPro uses them)

To new comers to the TvistoPro (or TVP for short)

The Operators Guide is alittle vague on how to USE or setup your TVP. So I will try to explain it alittle better.

You can Indeed use a 1.5TB Drive (or probably bigger) with it. ( I am using a 1.5TB Drive right Now) I formatted to to FAT32 Using Acronis Disk Director Suite to format it. You can use almost any Free Program Similar to this one to format your drive.
Also you must know that there are 2 different modes ( the USB Mode & Play Mode ) turn off your TVP or don't turn it on then plug in your USB cable and hook it up to your computer . (USB Mode) Format it first before you start using the Drive then Make your Folders the WAY YOU WANT! ( if any at all). USB Mode use it link a external USB Drive this is how you will get files on to your Drive & Easily Delete Them. When you are done its always wise to EMPTY your Windows Trash Bin before you disconnect it so you don't get any fragmented files. Once you are done moving or deleting files use your 'Safely remove hardware Icon' to properly disconnect your drive from your computer. then Flip the Power switch on the back of the TVP to OFF and pull out the USB Cable wait a few a few seconds then turn it back on (this will boot up as the PLAY MODE) so you can watch your Video files on your TV or Listen to your Music or see your Pictures.

Also you will have a 4gig file transfer limit with your drive formatted to FAT32 but Thats ok.

You can Use DVD Shrink to shrink your DVD's to under 4gigs
(to do this goggle it there are tons of sites on how you can do this)
Also you can USE ISO files which is GREAT! So if you copy your DVD's using The ISo Format you can play these files on your TVP as if your dvd was in your DVD player and watch all the extras and alternate endings, etc... (this is why I got it)

Now for the network side of things I am still working on it. If anyone has any tips on how to set up the TVP on a network with a Windows XP computer PLEASE Post it here and Help Us Out.

If anyone has any other questions, I will try to answer them. or if anyone has any other TIPS I invite you to Share them!

THANKS,

Mike
