I'm up to 3 replaytvs in my bedroom now. I guess that averages watching two shows on each one a month. I'm trying.

The one I just hooked up seemed to have a problem connecting to the mothership. After several minutes I noticed the ethernet cable was unplugged on one end and the thrill was gone. I was really looking forward to resolving the problem.

The latest replaytv was a 160 giger. It had a slew of Food Network shows on it, which is good. Food Network progressively gets worse year to year. At least I have some shows from a year ago, the 'tween' period.

Methinks that someone's been indulging in "natural" foodstuffs:

Sunday Morning

I'm checking my Replay stock. One of the 5040's did the whole activation thing and drill. Then it seemed to hang on 'finding new phone numbers' or whatever. I remember an old thread of a guy who had this problem. Don't remember what he did but remember he resolved it.

I reset my replaytv.
I pushed the power button to turn it off. Then I pressed and held the power button to turn it on again. Because I held the button the ReplayTV is both on, and about to reboot. I do it this way because I can visually tell when it reboots; when the screen goes blank I know it has rebooted.

Interestingly, After the replaytv booted back up it had a message in the bottom left corner of the screen I had never seen before on a 5XXX. Grr, I already forgot the exact wording. conspicously it read something like 'Please hold another minute'. The replaytv then finished combining the data it collected from the net connect before the reboot. It admirably finished and all was fine. Perhaps the replaytv hadn't hung and I was impatient.

I checked another 5040. It connected to check the activation. Everything seemed weird. Again I saw screens I never saw before! Ohh.. it was the one 5040 I own that doesn't have lifetime activation. I had tested it out about a year ago during the freebie trial month to make sure it worked good, it did. I hadn't booted it since till now. No service, wow, Bummer.

There's something I want to say about this thread, but I haven't figured it out yet.

I've had a lifetime 4040 refurb boxed for about a year. Been toiling the whole time whether I should open it. The truth is I'm just too lazy.

If anyone wants a 4040 at the mode price of ebay let me know. I'll open it and make sure it works if you want.

Had my lately habitual 4-5 shot decaf iced americano (hold the water, the shots melt the ice enough) at Nordstroms today. Only $2.40 OR $2.90 W/extra shot. They have been with holding the honey packets from the counter the last three visits. I like to make a slurry of 6 packets of honey and half and half to pour in to the drink. If I squeeze the honey directly over the iced drink and stir, the honey will stick to the stir stick and come up gobbed with honey looking much like a stick of rock candy. The nordstroms cafe doesn't stock simple syrup (and they answer 'no' and turned their head instantly the two times I've asked); it's a pre desolved mixture of water and sugar made to add to cold drinks. That's kinda unprofessional. If I spend $3.00 for 8 cents of coffee and a 12 cent plastic cup I expect access to an overpriced $2 bottle of sugar disolved in water. This time I made a sugar/half&half slurry again.

I thought about what Bayside said about honey when I was drinking it. nah..

Man, this blog is so cool.... I downloaded it to the papertowels in the kitchen so I can read it while I'm cooking. It's so easy to read each entry on individual perforated sheets!

Rock on ICE COW!!!

UPDATE:

I've just upgraded my paper roll dispenser in the bathroom to 802.11b... using WPA PSK. Now I can enjoy the blog in the reading lounge!

Damn... now to find a toner cartridge that uses anti-itch inks so the blog does not inflame my hemorrhoids...

KEEP GOING ICE!!!

Hooked the Kill-a-Watt(TM) up to a replaytv 5160 today.

The Kill-a-Watt is a box that you plug in to the wall then plug anything electrical in to it. It tells you how many watts a device is actually using.

When booting up the replay used 30-31 watts. It jumped up to 32-33 near the end of the boot up.

When the replaytv is OFF it uses a flat 31 watts.

When the replaytv is ON and in a MENU it uses a flat 32 watts

When the replaytv is ON and watching a buffered show it uses 33-34 watts.

When watching a pre-recorded show it uses 32-33 watts. (tested twice)

Strangely, when a pre-recorded show is on pause it uses 33-34 watts. (tested twice)

24 (hours) X 30.5 (Days in a month) X 33 (Approximate average wattage usage)
=24156 watts a month or ~24.2 kilowatt/hours (or is there 1024 watt in a kilowatt?)

If a kilowatt/hour costs $0.25, a replaytv costs real close to $6 a month to run, or $72 a year.

If a kilowatt

I'll update the screensaver usage later.

Did an upgrade on a 5040 today (to a maxtor 200 gig).

If you run the Maxtor CD that comes with a HD from windows, one of the obvious choices is to create a floppy disk.

Most/many(?) upgraders will create this floppy [torture] so they can do a zero fill/mark bad sectors (aka 'low level format').

This is not nessecary. I'd like to point out that you can boot up the CD and do the zero fill from there.

However, I don't see a way to turn on 'acoustic management' from the booted cd. acoustic management may be on by default, i'm not sure.

So did you just put the Replays back in the box?

Or have changed boxes/basecamp/treehouses (http://www.righteousbender.com/img/cowbox.jpg) 3+ times since then?
