No more possible candidates? Anyone hearing/reading about females on the show?
Well, I've always had a thing for Daisy Fuentes. Not sure if she has any projects to plug these days.
ft
juancmjr 07-08-08, 06:08 PM +1. Would love to see Daisy on DWTS. She could plug her low cost clothing line (if she still designs it).
stunpals 07-29-08, 12:55 PM Just saw a yahoo video claiming to have the list of DwtS participants for the upcoming season.
I'm blocked at work but if anyone else has the list... feel free to slap it right HERE
I didn't see anything....
except this little tidbit..
I think we'll lose archieguy now as a viewer..:D
Dan Quayle to Dance on 'Stars?'
Posted by ExtraTV Staff on July 29, 2008 6:00 AM
Will Dan Quayle be putting on his dancing shoes?
The former Vice President of the United States is "on the short list" of potential stars for the upcoming season of "Dancing with the Stars," according to online sources.
While no official cast names have been announced, celebs rumored to be under consideration include socialite Kim Kardashian and former boy bander, Lance Bass. An official announcement will soon be made on "Good Morning America."
Quayle served as Veep under the first George Bush, and is best remembered for incorrectly correcting a spelling bee contestant's spelling of "potato" to "potatoe."
Season 7 of "Dancing with the Stars" premieres September 22nd on ABC

stunpals 07-29-08, 01:24 PM Just got the yahoo video to load...
and the participants are...
from the Australian version of the show. What a rip off. They really should have made that clear.
While we're on the first page, Mac, you have any pics in reserve to share.
Also, the So you think you can dance thread could really use some screen shots ala Mac. Just sayin'
Dan Quayle on DWTS? That should keep the mods busy removing political posts. We'll have to wait and see how lighte he is on his tos.
... see how lighte he is on his tos.:D har har har dee har har :D

Dan Quayle to Dance on 'Stars?'
Hey, if I didn't tune out Tucker, why would I bail on Quale? ;) Although, considering his past accomplishments (keep the snickering down, class), isn't this kind of.... slumming? Although, I suppose it could have been designed to put a positive image of a Republican politician (complete with plenty of self-deprecating humor, I'm sure, and li'l Danny's not a bad looking guy) out there in a highly visible spot during the election season. Hmmmm......
I think the Dems need to counter with Clinton. Either one. :p
Mac The Knife 07-29-08, 05:05 PM So who would Lance get as a partner? Louis or Jonathon? And who leads?
I think the Dems need to counter with Clinton. Either one. :pMore interesting with Bill. If Adam was able to use a unicycle for a dance prop, then Bill should be able to use a cigar.
humdinger70 07-30-08, 12:54 PM Dates are set. (Saw this ad on Tuesday's "WipeOut")
Celebrities will be announced on Good Morning America on Monday, August 25.
New season starts on Monday, September 22 (2-hour special).
Mac The Knife 07-30-08, 02:55 PM More interesting with Bill. If Adam was able to use a unicycle for a dance prop, then Bill should be able to use a cigar.
But if it was Hill, she could use ashtrays and lamps and props. ;)
BTW, they had Julianne on one of the e-news programs last night and she was still dodging the question of whether or not she would be on DTWS this season. Paraphrasing, she said that they don't tell the until just before they have to start training so she doesn't know if she's on the show or not.
I haven't heard anything about how the tour or her album sales went, so I don't know how well her singing career is working out.
archiguy 07-30-08, 03:03 PM I haven't heard anything about how the tour or her album sales went, so I don't know how well her singing career is working out.
She should be touring this fall to support the CD release which would leave no time for the show. Unless it bombed....
Mac The Knife 07-30-08, 03:22 PM ^^^^ Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Which is why I was surprized by what she said about DWTS. I would have thought she would have just said that due to the success of the tour, that she wouldn't be available for DWTS rather than hedging and saying she wouldn't know until they announced the pairings.
So who would Lance get as a partner? Louis or Jonathon? And who leads?Depends on whether push comes to shove.
Mac The Knife 08-11-08, 05:04 PM I might have mentioned a couple of times ;) that I'd like to see them get Walsh to do DWTS and here's why:
http://thumbnails2.imagebam.com/1100/6e0a9610999916.gif (http://www.imagebam.com/image/6e0a9610999916)
That's a great set of legs which would look fantastic in a little Cha-Cha outfit.

That's a great set of legs which would look fantastic in a little Cha-Cha outfit.Obviously not for this season, but I'd like to see that...though she'd be about 6'5" in heels. Maybe she could lead.
Mac The Knife 08-12-08, 04:36 PM Walsh and May have been talking more and more about retiring in order to start families. May said she was treating this year as her last Olympics. And Walsh is turning 30 this month. There's still one record they don't own which is most total wins, so I suspect they'll play at least one more season to wrap up that record.
After that, DWTS would sure be a nice payday to start off the kid's college fund. :)
IrmoGamecoq 08-13-08, 08:26 AM I could see Mary Lou Retton doing this show one day.

:D I'd prefer Marissa who at least had some womanly curves. There's just something about Mary Lou that always creeped me out a little - that big head with even bigger teeth on that tiny fireplug shaped body; still gives me the shivers. I honestly think I'd have to skip a season if she were on (or at least until she got eliminated).

stunpals 08-17-08, 01:08 PM I think most people were turned off by Marissa's crying and over-smiling. And of course her flabs didn't help either.
Mac The Knife 08-18-08, 04:40 PM I'm feeling a little bit naughty today. This one's PG-13, so you might not want to bring it up on your monitor at work.

I'm surprised this leak (http://www.gossipsauce.com/dancing-with-the-stars/dancing-with-the-stars-exclusive-cast-revealed) wasn't posted yet, but it should be interesting to see how accurate it is:
Kim Kardashian, Lance Bass, Toni Braxton, Brooke Burke, Maurice Greene, Cody Linley, Susan Lucci, Warren Sapp, Misty May-Treanor, Ted McGinley, Mark McGrath, Cloris Leachman, Jeff Ross.
That's 13, isn't that one more than in the past? Maybe one is a standby.

Misty couldn't be there, could she? Wouldn't the actual contestants be busy practicing up for the season right about now? And Sapp has a commentating gig, if I'm not mistaken.
I thought I remember hearing that they were supposed to be practicing 6 weeks ahead of the show but I don't know if that's a requirement. There is only two days until the official announcement, and 4 more weeks until the caps begin ;)
SowegaBowler 08-23-08, 02:30 PM I'm surprised this leak (http://www.gossipsauce.com/dancing-with-the-stars/dancing-with-the-stars-exclusive-cast-revealed) wasn't posted yet, but it should be interesting to see how accurate it is:

OMG-Ted McGinley, master of jumping-the-shark? (http://www.jumptheshark.com/forum/Ted-Mcginley/22) If DWTS is not already on the way down, I would look for it to go that way soon if he is in the lineup...
Brooke Burke may be a fantastic model, but since her fellow models have not done well on this show, I would not be too optimistic about how she does.
OTOH, I would think Lance Bass would have a good run, given his N*Sync tenure, during which he exhibited some flashy choreography (see: Joey Fatone). Given their athletic background, I would not be surprised if Maurice and Misty do well also.
That said, it would be interesting to see what the lineup will be when it is OFFICIALLY announced on Monday.
Mac The Knife 08-23-08, 03:52 PM Cloris Leachman! I thought she'd be dead by now. How old is she? About 150?
And who the heck are Jeff Ross and Cody Linley?

IIRC, they've only had one season where there was a 6-week training period, all the others have been 4 weeks. The stars looked a lot better the first week of that season, so I think the extra two weeks helped.
juancmjr 08-23-08, 07:32 PM And who the heck are Jeff Ross and Cody Linley?
+1. Never heard of these dudes. There should be some really good eye candy with Kim, Toni and Brooke, if this is the true list. I just watch this show for the dancing .
I'll also agree with SowegaBowler in that Lance should have a bit of an edge over the others because of his N'Sync gig. Just think if he actually won this thing and the whole 1st ever gay DWTS winner hype.
We'll just have to wait until Monday to find out.
tvrbob86 08-25-08, 09:33 AM Kim Kardashian
Toni Braxton
Lance Bass
Susan Lucci
Warren Sapp
Cloris Leachman
Rocco DiSpirito
Cody Linley
Brooke Burke
Jeffrey Ross
Maurice Greene
Misty May-Treanor
Ted McGinley
tvrbob86 08-25-08, 10:00 AM Is that list official?Yes (http://abc.go.com/primetime/dancingwiththestars/index?pn=announcement). The only difference from the rumored list appears to be Rocco DiSpirito in the place of Mark McGrath.
There are indeed 13 contestants! The opening is a three night special with all couples performing two dances. One couple will learn two dances but will not get beyond Monday (only performing once).
Julianne, Max, Kym and Edyta are back. They didn’t mention any other pros on GMA.
teevman 08-25-08, 11:25 AM Julianne :) :)
humdinger70 08-25-08, 11:45 AM Julianne :) :)
I guess her singing career didn't take off as she expected. Loss for her (for now) but definitely a win for us! (as long as she gets a talented partner and not an Adam Corolla wannabe!)
If I remember correctly, Julianne will be paired with Cody Linley (in which Tom B referred to her as the “older woman”!); Max will have Misty. I’ve forgotten Edyta’s and Kym’s partners.

Here are the pairings:
Lance Bass/Lacey Schwimmer (newcomer to DWTS, her brother Benji was SYTYCD season 2 champ, she was the hottie of season 3)
Toni Braxton/Alec Mazo
Brooke Burke/Derek Hough
Rocco Dispirito/Karina Smirnoff
Maurice Greene/Cheryl Burke
Kim Kardashian/Mark Ballas
Cloris Leachman/Corky Ballas (newcomer, Mark's dad)
Cody Linley/Julianne Hough
Susan Lucci/Tony Dovolani
Misty May-Treanor/Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Ted McGinley/Inna Brayer (newcomer)
Jeffrey Ross/Edyta Sliwinska
Warren Sapp/Kym Johnson
humdinger70 08-25-08, 12:21 PM No Jonathan Roberts or Anna Trebunskya this season.
humdinger70 08-25-08, 12:22 PM Julianne :) :)
Lacey Schwimmer :D:D:D
RAVEN56706 08-25-08, 12:24 PM Kim Kardashian.... in hd..... in short dresses... i will get the tissue ready
archiguy 08-25-08, 12:31 PM Boy, I guess Misty May will be disembarking from Beijing and heading straight into the studio and Maks' arms. At least he won't have to worry about her not being in shape. Wonder if one of her dance costumes will be her bikini volleyball outfit. :p
Yeah, shame about Julianne's CD. But frankly, there are more super-cute blond country singers who all sound alike than you can shake a stick at. I guess she thought her exposure on this show would separate her from the crowd.
Mac The Knife 08-25-08, 03:51 PM Boy, I guess Misty May will be disembarking from Beijing and heading straight into the studio and Maks' arms. ....
Even worse scheduling than that. She skipped the closing cermonies and flew to Phoenix where she threw out the first ball at the D-Backs/Marlins game yesterday (her husband, of course, caught the ball). So then she had to jump on another plane to LA to start DWTS.
Mac The Knife 08-25-08, 04:02 PM Looking at the lineup, I think the competition is going to be closer this season than any of the previous seasons.
I think Maurice/Cheryl, Kim K/Mark, Cody/Julianne, Misty/Maks, Toni/Alec and Lance/Lacey all sound like fairly solid teams.
Maybe even Brooke/Derek too. And I don't really see any big standout like Kristie from last season.
I think Misty/Maks is going to be a really good pairing. Misty seems to have a similar personality to Mel B and Mel and Maks worked really well together. But Lance and Toni should have a slight advantage with their performing backgrounds.
Regarding Misty; she made it clear in any number of interviews during the Olympics that her first priority after the end of the games was to start a family. Well, 2 weeks of separation there and now (possibly) 12 weeks of barely seeing each other!
I guess they will be ready willing and able after this is over!
IrmoGamecoq 08-25-08, 05:03 PM I look at that list and I see lots of potential for Mac the Knife screen-caps! :D

Not really. The one who's so hot to breed is her partner, Kerri Walsh, who made it crystal clear she's totally on board with the family values brigade, and that means production of children. Her comments to NBC right after they won the gold made sure she covered all the "right" bases. Misty kind of half-heartedly echoed her sentiments for motherhood, but I got the distinct impression she won't be in nearly as much of a hurry to get there. She's always seemed the more mature of the two, never more than during the last two weeks. Looking forward to seeing her on the Show.
SowegaBowler 08-25-08, 07:54 PM Good to see Julianne will be back; IMO she is the best of the female pros on the show. OTOH, I did not get into SYTYCD until this year, so I am not familiar with Lacey's technique; maybe I should see if there are any videos of her on YouTube or elsewhere.
So it is now official-Ted McGinley will be dancing. DWTS is now officially on "jump the shark" watch...j/k. :D
juancmjr 08-25-08, 10:01 PM I look at that list and I see lots of potential for Mac the Knife screen-caps! :D
YES!! We know you won't disappoint us Mac. ;)

So, exactly what is wrong with wanting to have children? It's not like she's been spitting them out since she was 15. She's 30+ and ready to start a family, something hardly worth rolling one's eyes over.

It was the way she kept emphasizing it, along with other statements and behavior that I found demeaning and embarrassing. If you want further clarification, PM me; I won't discuss it here. Suffice it to say I'm very happy it's Misty and not her who's the contestent on DWTS.
... Suffice it to say I'm very happy it's Misty and not her who's the contestent on DWTS.I am too but it would have been real neat to have them both on, competing against each other!
IrmoGamecoq 08-26-08, 09:45 AM Smart move on DWTS' part. They've effectively gotten 2 weeks of promotion already in the bag..."you saw her win the gold in Beijing...now watch her go for the title in our studio!"
I'm sure they tried to lure several other Olympians too just for that reason...
teevman 08-26-08, 11:15 AM so i'm reading that lance bass is gay, guess we won't be seeing him in any "mango's" like we saw in last yrs. show, lol.
teevman 08-26-08, 11:20 AM Cloris Leachman, is now 82 yrs old, that should be interesting to watch, maybe i won't :)
I'm sure they tried to lure several other Olympians too just for that reason...
The other night, on a pre Olympic show, (one of those Extra type trash shows), the reporter asked both Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson if they would be interested in appearing on DWTS. They both enthusiastically said yes. I’m sure the producers could have had them if they wanted. Misty has been rumored to be a contestant for quite some time—at least Mac has been ;) promoting her for a few seasons now. I guess they already filled that demographic—for now.
archiguy 08-26-08, 11:55 AM Cloris Leachman, is now 82 yrs old, that should be interesting to watch, maybe i won't :)
She is said to have a wonderful personality and great sense of humor, both highly prized traits on this show, but I can't imagine she would be up to its physical rigors. If so, then she must be one impressive lady indeed. Kudos to her for giving it a shot; certainly gives me hope for my impending dotage. :)
... If so, then she must be one impressive lady indeed. Kudos to her for giving it a shot; certainly gives me hope for my impending dotage. :)She’s only 82. That’s the new 52. ;)
After this gig, she’s going to start prepping for a 2012 run for the Oval Office.:D
Mac The Knife 08-27-08, 04:07 PM ^^^^ I heard Cloris was going to try out for the 2012 Olympic Swim team so that Torres would be a youngster again. ;)
BTW, I wouldn't complain if they got Dara to do DWTS. She'd look good in a Cha-Cha outfit too.

Those PNGs are much larger files at 2.7 Megs, but the quality is good. I can imagine how long 1080i caps would take to d/l. I also like to format the thumbnails horizontally but that's just my own preference.

Hmmm. Sounds like I might need to go ahead and keep doing the conversion to jpg. I'll check to see if I can increase the compression of the pngs, otherwise I'll just revert to my old method.
Mac The Knife 08-31-08, 04:13 PM OK. I think I've found a good compromise of settings for size vs quality.

Mac The Knife 08-31-08, 04:47 PM Well, Misty's crazy schedule finally caught up with her. She was actually in Ohio, playing a tournament this weekend. Maks was there too.
But Misty and Kerri's winning streak is now over since they lost to Branaugh and Youngs in the finals. Lots of unforced errors by May-Walsh, but they still forced them to play 25points in the final set.
Do these download in more reasonable time?Back to JPEG I see. Since they are 1/5 the file size they d/l much faster.
juancmjr 09-09-08, 12:05 AM There's a new Juicy Fruit commercial with Julianne in it. I believe she sings the music for it as well. Tank top, shorts and boots, as well as that beautiful smile. :D:D:D
Mac The Knife 09-10-08, 04:36 PM I saw the Juicy Fruit commercial but didn't get a recording of it, but here's a couple of shots of Julianne performing at the CMA festival.

Mac The Knife 09-16-08, 05:32 PM ^^^ Mixed doubles would be impossible in that league. I'd never be able to remember whether I was supposed to play the line or the center.
BTW, I noticed that Mario Lopez has a large format "workout" book out now. It has several photos of him and Karina, all pretty tame.
Mac The Knife 09-18-08, 04:35 PM Since we lost four pros this season, I thought I'd do a little farewell montage to each of the retiring pros to count down the days to the start of the new season.
First up is Fabian who only danced one season. I thought he did a commendable job with Marlee. And he came across nicely in the interviews. I would have been happy to have him back.

I snuck in a shot of Fabian with Ashely Delgrosso in that last cap since I never had a chance to do a farewell sequence for Ashely.
Mac The Knife 09-19-08, 04:25 PM Next up in the farewell montage is Louis.
We actually speculated about him leaving the show since he now has a bunch of other irons in the fire, so this wasn't too much of a surprise.
The shots with Cheryl are oldies but goodies and gave me a chance to reuse Len's great reaction shot. I threw in a leftover shot of Ashley too, since I couldn't think of any other place to use it.

archiguy 09-20-08, 09:51 AM My friends, it is with a heavy heart that I must tell you that I'm bowing out of this season's exciting chase for the coveted Mirrorball Trophy. I looked at the schedule for next week and what did I see for DWTS? Five frakkin' hours! Are you kidding me? That's like 5 separate hour-long dramas, more shows if you factor in a sitcom or two. The following week it will drop to at least 3, and stay that way for weeks. Only in the last week or two does it finally drop down to a more-manageable 2 hours a week. It's just too much. On Mondays alone, I've got 'Prison Break' and SCC, expensive escapist entertainment of the first order, and 'Heroes', which is practically required of a sci-fi/comic geek like me, and that maxes out the two tuners on my DVR. Anything else has to go on my Macbook, not the most satisfying way to watch TV, no matter what the media companies are trying to tell us these days.
Now I know DWTS is ABC's highest-rated show, far eclipsing the shear genius and nearly-unrivaled entertainment factor of LOST, or even the tired and worn-out 'Desperate Housewives' (who's continued popularity continues to elude me). I know that ABC looks at DWTS as a cash-cow, and understandably wants to milk it for as many hours of revenue that it can squeeze out of a skimpy, sequined costume. But committing to watch this show is like watching 3 or 4 other complete series during the course of a week. And do we really need two, count 'em two complete cycles of this show every year? (well, you excepted, Mac ;) ) Aren't they afraid of brand-dilution, a la 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire'? Have they no shame?! It's just too much.
My wife is a big 'American Idol' fan. Sometimes, if I can't find a good excuse or she just wants me to see a marginally talented singer she's momentarily infatuated with, I get roped along into watching a couple of mind-numbing hours of that one. And, of course, that's FOX's big ol' 800 pound ratings gorilla. And they do the same dang thing. In fact, in the spring, you have both these behemoths gobbling up huge amounts of TV time every week. What time is left for crackerjack, intellectually stimulating (I will grant that DWTS produces an entirely different form of stimulation but we won't go there for the purposes of this rant), massively entertaining and terribly-expensive-to-produce show like LOST or BSG...? If compromises have to be made in the interest of having a life, from whence shall they come?
My friends, I am here to tell you today that those compromises must come from the genre of reality shows. They must. Our very future as a civilized, discerning nation depends on it! (Forgive me, I've been watching too many McCain stump speeches. :p)
So, I must reluctantly bow out of being a regular viewer of DWTS, and thus a regular contributor to this thread. I will still lurk, maybe still offer an off-color comment or two where I can sneak 'em in, but only sporadically as I catch parts of an installment here or there. Mac, I'll miss your screenshots. Irmo, I'll miss your snarky comments. TVOD, I'll miss your insights. Larry, well, I'll probably miss you most of all, ya' big lug. But I'm going to tap my ruby sneakers three times and get 3+ hours of my week back. Farewell my friends, and God Bless Samantha's cleavage.
Mac The Knife 09-20-08, 02:46 PM I figured Anna might retire this season due to her recent success on the competition circuit, but I didn't think Jonathon would go with her.

Mac The Knife 09-21-08, 04:19 PM Finally we have Anna. I threw in a shot of her mom since we probably won't see her again either.
Remember to set your DVRs. Otherwise you might spend 5 hours watching in real-time (or spend five hours composing a long rant like Archiguy). ;) Just kidding Arch, fire up the DVR, reduce your viewing time to about 1.5 hours and stick around.

sneals2000 09-21-08, 08:32 PM Hi guys
The UK original show "Strictly Come Dancing" that is remade by the BBC for ABC as "Dancing with the Stars" started in the UK this weekend (It runs with the main live show on Saturday and a pre-recorded "dance off" show on Sunday). I think it starts over in the US soon as well as Len Goodman, who judges both shows, said in a recent interview he was going to be miss playing Golf whilst he had to do so much travelling! I guess Bruno also does the same?
We've got 16 couples this season - 2 more than the 14 of last series - and with one of the previous professionals leaving, we have three new pros (two girls - one New Zealander and one Russian, and a guy - Brian Fortuna, who I think has done DWTS? - from the US).
Rather than have all 16 couples compete on the first show (which would take an age) - the first show had the 8 male stars dance individually and face elimination, with the lady stars doing a group dance which was commented on but not judged by the judges or the public. The same format will be reversed next week, with the 8 lady stars dancing individually, and the chaps doing a group dance.
The main show lasts 1 hour and 20 mins with the results show lasting 1 hour. (No ad breaks in either show)
There is an accompanying daily 30 minute "backstage" and chat show called "Strictly Come Dancing It Takes Two" which airs on BBC Two weeknights at 6.30pm, but it is more of a fan show.
IrmoGamecoq 09-22-08, 08:59 AM Arch - Sorry to see you guy, but I can understand! Does anybody know if the 2 hour premiere tonight is actual competition? It seems like last season they did this same type of thing and it was just training montages and singing/dancing exhibitions.
I like DWTS but I'm hitting a 2-tuner limit just like Archi is, so I'd just as soon not watch/record something like that described above.
To the best of my knowledge, tonight is, indeed, competition!
From what I read, each couple is learning two dances for this opening week, one for tonight and one for tomorrow. One couple will be eliminated from tonight’s show (they will only get to dance one of the two dances learned) and another couple will be eliminated from tomorrow’s show!
This is AIUI! ;)
My friends, it is with a heavy heart that I must tell you that I'm bowing out of this season's exciting chase for the coveted Mirrorball Trophy.
.... Larry, ya' big lug.. :D Funny stuff, and I agree, I would love to bail on this season but if my wife is hooked then I’ll probably grin and ‘bear’ it—or lion :p —by the way, speaking of my wife, she read your post and asked—how did he know you’re a big lug.:D

One thing I found amusing (aside from the fact that Bruce Forsythe is still alive and using the same tired catch-phrases he used before I left England 25 years ago) is that many of the "stars" have done a stint in EastEnders! Oh, and I fully agree with archiguy above. There are just too many showings of DWTS and America's Got Talent in a week!
Mac The Knife 09-22-08, 03:19 PM Hi guys
....
We've got 16 couples this season - 2 more than the 14 of last series -
.....
Wow 16 couples! This season we have 13, which is the most ever for DWTS.
...
Rather than have all 16 couples compete on the first show (which would take an age) - the first show had the 8 male stars dance individually and face elimination, with the lady stars doing a group dance which was commented on but not judged by the judges or the public. .....
That's not too bad a format. I think I still prefer the previous two seasons of DWTS where we got to see everyone dance one latin and smooth dance before anyone got eliminated. I would have prefered that again this season and then they could eliminate two or three or even four people in the second week.
It just seems more fair to me to give all the couples a shot at both styles. And considering the time and effort that they have to commit to do the show, giving them all two dances before giving them the boot seems like a reasonable thing.
... And considering the time and effort that they have to commit to do the show, giving them all two dances before giving them the boot seems like a reasonable thing.Couldn't agree more!
humdinger70 09-22-08, 04:22 PM I'm just going to put a place marker here to respond when KGTV San Diego finally shows the premiere tonight. The ABC affiliate is simulcasting tonight's Jets/Chargers game from ESPN (game is apparently sold out, so it must air locally) and I just want to see if DWTS gets aired in HD or not if it starts after 8:00 PM PDT.
FYI, KGTV now broadcasts its local news in HD, so maybe (please, please, please!) they can record it and delay broadcast it in HD. (KGTV is the only ABC station affected by this issue/fiasco/nonsense).
Can't wait to see Kim Kardashian's HUGE booty dancing in HD later tonight.
Sad to say, but...this is must-see TV. :o
teevman 09-22-08, 06:53 PM she sure is nice looking but man that rear end, lol.

Or Casualty...
Or Holby...
Or have presented morning TV (GMTV have had three of their main presenters compete, and Breakfast have had one, with a couple of other newsreaders also giving it a go)
But then - most actors in the UK have appeared in Casualty, EastEnders, Holby or The Bill... (Even Keira Knightley has been in The Bill after all!)
And you can knock Brucie - but people still warm to him. He's doing well for an EIGHTY year old! (Yep - our version of DWTS is presented by an 80 year old comedian with a strong "variety" background, who has been presenting TV for 50 years this year, who has done everything from West End musicals to long-running game-shows)
Was chatting to some colleagues who were in the studio for the first Strictly studio show, and they said how good he was live.
Oh, and I fully agree with archiguy above. There are just too many showings of DWTS and America's Got Talent in a week!
Yep - the UK treats Strictly Come Dancing as very much Saturday and Sunday evening "3G" entertainment (new buzzword to describe "Three Generations watching TV together) where grandparents, parents and kids can all enjoy the show.
Britain's Got Talent is usually stripped across the week, with a weekend final.
RKRocha 09-22-08, 09:44 PM cloris leachman...she killed it tonight!
SowegaBowler 09-22-08, 10:16 PM cloris leachman...she killed it tonight!
Killed? The way she danced that fox trot, she should be charged with first-degree murder.
But she gets some plaudits from me for her attempt at "charming" the judges at the end.
:D Speaking of Ballroom, these pants are very very tight :D
Too many couples-- can’t wait until they whittle it down some…a lot of eye candy this season… might have to suffer through it.
Turn it off now-- Here are my out of the gate picks----The couples that we will see in the finals… and in no order:
Kim and Mark
Cody and Julianne
Toni and Alec
Brooke and Derek
Ted and Inna
Misty and Maks
StudioTech 09-22-08, 11:34 PM I wonder if the folks in San Diego are gonna get the show in its entirety or will it be joined in progress when Monday Night Football finishes.

Here's the answer....
Jets/Chargers MNF game ran about 45 minutes past DWTS normal start time, (good game for Chargers, 48-29 and Favre was mediocre at best with three picks) and...
Hooray! :D KGTV is showing the whole show and it's in HD (so obviously KGTV can store HD).
Only difference is that the ABC bug is the regular ABC bug in the 4:3 safe area instead of the normal ABCHD bug in the extreme right corner. Should be back to normal on Tuesday night. Curious on where they got the feed (east coast or west coast)?
nashvillecat 09-23-08, 04:25 AM Lance/Lacey look awesome.
Edyta looks awesome.
davemcs 09-23-08, 08:03 AM Boy, I guess Misty May will be disembarking from Beijing and heading straight into the studio and Maks' arms. At least he won't have to worry about her not being in shape. Wonder if one of her dance costumes will be her bikini volleyball outfit. :p.
As it turns out Maks was there when she arrived home from Beijing (early too..she claims to have skipped the closing ceremony to get back the US and into Maks' arms!)
stunpals 09-23-08, 09:29 AM I watched the MNF game. Recorded the show. However, I did flip over at the end to catch Misty and Warren Sapp.
That's a huge dude who is light on his feet. Don't know how far he'll make it but he made my wife do a double take.
Gmichael2 09-23-08, 10:51 AM Way too much on TV on Monday nights. Even with two DVR's recording 2 channels each at the same time we ended up missing shows we wanted to see. Can't they spread some of this out to other nights?
Lancy looked hot. Sexy woman for sure.
Kim Kardashian's looked gorgeous. Dang that woman's got some big a$$, a$$!
Cloris Leachman was funny, but may have gone too far with her comments on her scores. I liked it, but many may not.
I didn't see any one person who looks like they will run away with it this season. Should be fun.
humdinger70 09-23-08, 01:39 PM Lance/Lacey look awesome.
Edyta looks awesome.
Enjoy Edyta while you can. I think she and her lumbering comic dance partner will be the first ones cut.
Warren Sapp is a surprise - very light on his feet. Probably had some coaching from season 3 winner Emmitt Smith.

The ABC-HD bug was gotten rid a few months ago. Don't expect to see it again for a long time, if ever.
Mac The Knife 09-23-08, 03:30 PM Archi sure picked a bad time to boycott. The eyecandy meter is off the charts this season.

It's a very good thing there's lot's of eye candy among the female celebs since IMHO, we'll probably lose Edyta and Karina in the first two weeks.
And I'm feeling really proud of myself today. All that campaigning for May/Walsh paid off last night. [in my best Billy Crystal voice] Misty you looked maaavalos... :D
Misty actually looked so good I didn't recognize her at first. I missed the introductions and Cody & Julianne's dance due to having to recover from a computer crash so the first shot I saw of Misty was the backstage shot of her and Mo.
Mac The Knife 09-23-08, 03:39 PM :D

The only change I'd make to that list is to add Lance. Personally I thought his score was slightly inflated since I didn't really like his arm and leg lines. But he'll have big audience support and be a factor.
I think Sapp might be a spoiler this season. He's like Emmit Smith and Jerry Rice in that he just looks so relaxed and is having such fun that it hides a lot of sins.
IMHO Toni, Brooke, Lance and Cody are the early favorites. But it seems really closely matched this season, so that could change dramatically.
I'm hoping that Cloris, Jeffrey, Mo and Susan are the first to be cut.
IMHO Toni, Brooke, Lance and Cody are the early favorites. Ok, we’re on record, now come on everybody, put your early picks in, so you can claim bragging rights at the end. ;)
But it seems really closely matched this season, so that could change dramatically.
Yes, this is the first time we have such an open field making for a more entertaining season.
my65ffrcobra 09-23-08, 06:43 PM Holy crap the picture is terrible why bother calling it HD I swear I have seen DVDs look better. Terrible macroblocking during some cutscenes, I checked both on Dish and OTA same thing. Its even worse than last year. I can not think of any primetime HD show that looks worse. Same boomy sound mix as well. The bass sounds good on some songs but boomy on their intro music.
Am I the only one that noticed this? I just want to see Edita in full HD glory, c'mon :)
I agree on monday and tuesday nights being busy, Luckily with the two channel DVR it will record the two channels and the OTA tuner at the same time, we are recording three things at once! The rest of the week there is nothing we really watch.

Are you in the Pacific Time Zone? If so, you are a victim of a problem with the ABC West coast feed. It's been soft for the past few weeks. Some discussion and screen caps over here:

SowegaBowler 09-23-08, 07:49 PM Enjoy Edyta while you can. I think she and her lumbering comic dance partner will be the first ones cut.
I think so too...Jeffrey is this season's Adam Carolla, someone whose mouth is faster than his feet.;)
Warren Sapp is a surprise - very light on his feet. Probably had some coaching from season 3 winner Emmitt Smith.
I would not be surprised if he turns out to be a spoiler. For someone of his size, he has good moves.
Biggest disappointment? ... Susan Lucci
She may have some work to do on her choreography, but she really has a flair for the dramatic...maybe a bit too dramatic.
The three best dancers of the night IMO: Toni, Brooke and Misty...but Lance is right behind them.
Biggest disappointment? ... Susan LucciMost definately; reminded me of Jane Seymour in her short dress and stick legs except Susan is 5 years older than Jane, yikes.
My prediction is Toni Braxton will win the disco ball.

Yup Sacramento area. Last year it was pretty bad but last night was extra non HD like.

Maybe this season's Penn as well?
Susan's reactions to the judges' criticism was irritating. My sister said I just wanted to slap her. Susan is a little on the bony side. Not appealing for me. Thin is fine. Thin approaching anorexia? Not hot.
Liked Cloris's antics. The dancing... eh... Not sure she'll last long. Neither will Jeffrey.
I did get some macroblocking with the strobes during Inna's video introduction. Other than that, PQ was great.
Julianne... perfect legs. By the way, she's in another Juicy Fruit commercial.
My picks, Cody, Misty, Toni and possibly Brooke. The hyperextended legs were scary. Did like her outfit though. I'll say it. Jumblies galore! :D

Yup. Didn't get blocking, but the pic was wayyyy too soft for HD.
Darth Indy 09-24-08, 03:36 AM Ok, I can't be the only one who noticed this. When they were giving the scores to the old lady she called the woman judge a "b*tch" and then it sounded like to the second scorer she said "f you". I definately know she said "that b*tch". I was completely shocked that Kim Kardashian can't dance worth anything! I would have thought she would have been able to move, but man that was just aweful. I like her but she cannot dance.
humdinger70 09-24-08, 05:01 AM OK, it's late enough.
Jeffrey/Edyta first ones eliminated. Kind of expected. Oh well, she's now available to dance with the other pros on the results shows.
If she wants to play the "misery loves company" game, she can commiserate with Tom Brady (both just missed winning championships in the immediate prior season, both out after one session/game of current season).
I think Cloris/Corky go out on Wednesday. Her shtick is funny, but she can't really dance. Nice effort though. If not, Kim or Rocco might go.
nashvillecat 09-24-08, 06:06 AM I feel very bad for Edyta. What a loss...for us all!
joetoronto 09-24-08, 07:00 AM i watched 5 minutes of this show for one reason and one reason only....
the goddess, brooke burke.
my god man, she's sexier than ever. :)
skyehill 09-24-08, 10:34 AM I watch this show because my wife is addicted, but I've seen enough seasons to know what to expect...and it didn't deliver. There's no standouts. No person who from day 1 proved they could dance. Disappointing. Not sure how much they edit on the west coast feed, but here on the east it was hilarious reading Cloris' lips as she repeatedly called Carrie Ann a b****. I wish Jeff was a better dancer, because now Edyta is gone, as is a truly funny comic. My wife and I were hoping Kardarashian would leave (what a useless human being, who can NOT dance). Hate the dancer they got from So You Think You Can Dance. Terrible. Sapp was a nice surprise, and I hope Rocco improves. He genuinely seems to enjoy being there. I'm a big fan of the young blonde dancer(Julianne?), but the child they paired her with has absolutely zero chemistry with her. And holy crap, every time Misty May dances with Max(my fav. male dancer) my wife and I swear he's dancing with a tranny/drag queen. No offense intended, but she's too damn mannish. They need to do something(if possible) to lady her up.
Cal1981 09-24-08, 10:41 AM I agree with comments about the PQ on the West Coast. It was OK but seemed a bit soft and had less contrast and "pop" than a live HD broadcast should. As far as the show itself goes, I have found myself being less interested over the first two nights than in any previous year. I can't pinpoint the reasons. Maybe there were just too many contestants initially, forcing them to do shorter routines. It could also be that I just haven't found this group, so far, to be as interesting or engaging as prior groups. Some of the celebs have danced reasonably well but some inflated judges' scores notwithstanding, the overall quality of the dancing doesn't strike me as very good. Cloris Leachman, as brilliant an actress as she has been, was a mistake. She just cannot physically perform the dances that way that the others can. Her shtick is not helping mask that either. Hopefully (and mercifully) she'll leave tonight. Brooke Burke seems to be the best celeb right now but she doesn't hold a candle to many of the top three finalists from past seasons. I've also gotten a gnawing feeling that some of the professionals don't seem the be quite as engaged as they have been in the past. I could be very wrong about that but the thought is there. It is very nice to see Lacy Schwimmer on the show (although with no mention of "that other dance show" where she gained fame). I did notice one thing about Lacy during the first dance on Monday, a quickstep as I recall. She didn't seem as smooth or polished as the other professional women dancers. She was, I believe, a West Coast Swing dancer while the other women have competed at the highest levels in Ballroom/Latin dance. Maybe that's the difference.
stunpals 09-24-08, 01:13 PM Toni, Brooke and Misty...but Lance is right behind them.

Yeah, it's a bit scary. I thought she'd look really smokin' in the ballroom but not so much. Max is big and she's his size. Her hands are... well... manish too.

Her hands are... well... manish too.Big girl, but so what, she cleans up very well. Legs that go on forever and an athelete's body. I hear she also has quite a personality. I think she'll hang around long enough to not only improve, but open up. I doubt there's anyone more competitive this season. Watching her against the Chinese...WOW.
As others have said, no clear cut front runner. There are several that have a chance, but the skill level of the best isn't as high as some of the stars from previous seasons. That's fine...it will make for a better competition.
Mac The Knife 09-24-08, 05:54 PM I never thought I'd say this, but they actually managed to exceed my tolerance level last night. That was a mind numbingly sloooowww show. Having to sit through a two minute worthless pans of the couples for the announcement before each dance was painful.
Here's a timeline of the show with all the commercials and all the worthless "who's still dancing" drama in red. The normal show material (e.g. the dances, judges comments and then the scores are in green).
Just removing the commerials resulted in an 1:20 of programming, so they wasted 9 minutes of time with all that nonsense before each dance.

What surprised me was the use of Baby Got Back, a song whose video was banned from MTV, on a "family oriented" show like this with its network affiliation to Disney. OTOH, it was fitting with Kim's posterior. Having never seen her show, much less her, until a few weeks ago I wonder if her "I can't dance, I'm shy" thing is real or not. IIRC she's in that Disaster Movie out right now doing some sort of sexy wrestling with Carmen Electra.
Cloris just has to go. What she does doesn't appear to be dancing, much more like semi-rhythmic "movement." Anyone notice how she had kind of a 'where are you-oh there you are' moment when Corky went around her. She just seems confused during the routine at times. Amusing when she called Carrie Ann bitch. I could just barely hear it.
SowegaBowler 09-24-08, 07:43 PM OK, it's late enough.
Jeffrey/Edyta first ones eliminated. Kind of expected. Oh well, she's now available to dance with the other pros on the results shows....
I think Cloris/Corky go out on Wednesday. Her shtick is funny, but she can't really dance. Nice effort though. If not, Kim or Rocco might go.

No doubt Jeffrey deserved to go, the way he acted on Monday. And, I too think Cloris is the leading candidate to go next; she may cater to the nursing-home set, but she is not nearly in the same league with many of the others on the floor.
Kim may have a very pronounced backside, but her dancing still does not look so hot; I think she will go in the next week or two.
Meanwhile, I thought Misty's mambo was the best dance last night, followed by the quick steps of Brooke and Warren. Right now, Brooke IMO is leading the pack, but it's still early in the race.

That's why they invented DVR's.

There is no credibility on this show obviously anymore.
I'm capping this season just because of the godess Brooke.
WaldorfSalad 09-24-08, 11:30 PM We missed the last 15 minutes (ran out of tuners due to overrun). Who got the boot tonight?
Ted and Inna. Ted is the Married with Children guy. A shame, he had potential but him and his partner are the least known-- no voting fans.

All you guys who are drooling over Brooke's rack should know that it's a fake. A very good one though, about the best I've ever seen. She was married to a plastic surgeon who, shall we say, took a little extra care with the work. I'm usually 99% right in spotting those things, but Brooke almost had me fooled a few years back when I first saw her.
No, I'm still taking this cycle of DWTS off, but that doesn't mean I have to boycott the thread. LOL. Love reading ya'll's comments. And, judging by many of said comments, looks like I picked the right time to take a break from the show (kinda' figured, after I saw the publicity photos of the contestants last week. Just not as "impressive" as in some previous cycles. ;) )

On the contrary, I think this is the most "impressive" season yet...for eye-candy.
Top shelf:
Brooke Burke (takes top honors mostly on the strength of birthing 4 younguns)
Tori Braxton (she looks incredibly good for her age)
Kim Kardashian (this girl is just stunningly beautiful)
Disappointing:
Misty May Treanor (as others have stated, far too mannish)
The pros are bringing it too: Kym and Julianne are bringing it as usual, too bad about Edyta. I don't really care for any of the new female pros though.
On the professionals, anyone think that my girl Cheryl Burke might be prego? She's always been full-figured, but is now chunkier than I can ever remember seeing her. She still looks great, but I see even a hint of a double-chin here and there. I kept expecting them to break the news that she was 2-3 mo pregnant at some point.

Yes, but you know me...I've been a fan of Cheryl's since the beginning...she is definitely a little on the bigger side this time.
Maybe she'll slim down as the season goes on.
True, but Brooke's wonderful rack more than makes up for it! Its hard to focus on anything else. :DI agree. Not to pick on the geriatric but, there's just no way that Cloris deserves to be back. It's rediculous. Also they need to slice that extra episode like last night's. To have the couples stand there and 12 times and tell you 1 more that stays, then have a guest performance and/or pro dance exhibition is a mundane formula. The Corrola side bit was ok, but they just don't have a show. Hey let's ask each couple how they feel about coming back. "Well, I'm excited".
They need to show the couples dance! Plus, they really need to get some more marquee names. I'm sorry but the sprinter, the volley ball player, the pretty reality girl, the cook, and the kid from "Hannah Montana" are NOT "Stars". Lucci, Leachman, Braxton, are the biggest and even McKinnley.
Yes, but you know me....That’s why I didn’t bring it up. I certainly did not want to incur the wrath of Irmo :D -- but yes- she looks different. Almost like, as she matures, she is losing her youthful cuteness.
Well, if you Google “Cheryl Burke” pregnant you will see that many others also wonder about her being pregnant! One said no, not pregnant, but went on to say that she parties, drinks and smokes too much and may have a thyroid problem!
All that said, she is also my favorite (from the start) and I suspect she just put on some weight and it will go in a few weeks if she and her partner can hang around!

Interesting. I can somewhat believe that...
Especially since, as Archi pointed out, these "Cheryl has put on weight" posts always come up at the start of each season. Maybe she just has a good time in between Seasons and it takes the focus of performing in the show for her to get serious and get back in shape again.
Mac The Knife 09-25-08, 03:50 PM ^^^ I thought her new dance studio would keep her in shape over the break this time, but I guess it wasn't enough.
archiguy 09-25-08, 04:22 PM ^^^ I thought her new dance studio would keep her in shape over the break this time, but I guess it wasn't enough.
Maybe Drew hasn't been giving her the workouts she needs. Takes a real man to keep Cheryl's weight off. :p
IrmoGamecoq 09-25-08, 04:24 PM One of BDCat's Google links talked about how they didn't do the tour in the offseason this year, which contributed to the weight gain. Who knows.
Cal1981 09-25-08, 04:30 PM Totally ridiculous result last night. Ted certainly did not not deserve a quick exit and Cloris did. I also noticed that Cheryl looks a bit bigger this year. It was pretty apparent during, I think, the Pros' dance routine. When her back was to the camera, the open gown with the cross ties made her look pretty wide. The Pro's routine itself was not very interesting. It just had no sizzzle and I keep thinking that maybe some of the Pros are growing a bit weary of the show's grind and format.
Ron Temple 09-25-08, 04:48 PM Cheryl has turned into a pudge. She'll be looking like Marissa next season . There, that ought to get her the motivation to shed about 25.

… The Pro's routine itself was not very interesting. It just had no sizzzle and I keep thinking that maybe some of the Pros are growing a bit weary of the show's grind and format. I’m inclined to agree with you! And I suspect the viewers may also be getting tired of this format. It would not surprise me if the viewer-ship actually drops this season.
Until then, I suspect the “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality will apply!
archiguy 09-25-08, 04:59 PM It would not surprise me if the viewer-ship actually drops this season.
It's already dropped by at least one. ;)
Two cycles per year, with multiple hours and nights each week - it's just too much. ABC is going to beat this one to death just like they did 'Millionaire'. Funny how the "granddaddies" of reality shows, CBS's 'Survivor' and 'Amazing Race', somehow manage to entertain with one hour per week and one season per year. They understand that viewers' time is limited, and that less can indeed be more.
And one more thing: Tom got absolutely jobbed at the Emmy's. Nobody, certainly not that insufferable stuffed khaki shirt Jeff Probst, does it better. Now, back to my boycott. :p
SowegaBowler 09-25-08, 07:05 PM archiguy: I'll miss you...:p;)
Meanwhile, I am not too surprised by Ted's exit; he was good, but not quite as good as Brooke, Misty or Warren. I guess DWTS will not be jumping the shark any time soon.
;)
OTOH, I am still surprised by Cloris staying another week. Maybe the producers can slip her some steroids so she can become a REAL dancer.:D

Actually, Survivor has done 2 shows per year (1 fall and one spring) pretty much since the beginning. Amazing race also did Fall and Summer quite a few times, but neither got overexposed like Millionaire.
To me, Toni Braxton looks younger now than she did when her album first came out. Maybe the longer hair?
Mac The Knife 09-26-08, 04:12 PM I looks like Edyta and Alec will have to swap roles this season. It's usually Alec that gets stuck with some ditz and gets eliminated in the first week and Edyta usually makes it past the half-way point.
But, Edyta's out early and it looks like Alec and Toni have a shot at making the finals. I wonder if we'll see Edyta campaign for Alec and Toni like Alec did for her last season.
At least they're doing a good job of income averaging. ;) Wouldn't want to get stuck with a big tax bill in one season. :D
archiguy 09-26-08, 04:47 PM At least they're doing a good job of income averaging. ;) Wouldn't want to get stuck with a big tax bill in one season. :D
That brings back the subject of how they structure this show from the professional's standpoint. I've heard (may or may not be correct) that the pros make about $20,000 per week they're on the show. I'm sure they have to clear their schedules for the full run of the show, plus however many weeks of pre-season prep, plus the tour afterwards if they have one. It's a pretty big commitment of time. But if you get a raw draw, you could be out immediately. And you've postponed or abandoned any other opportunity to perform or earn some dough during that season. If you're a pro, getting a good, young, athletic partner is most of the battle in determining whether this is going to be a good year or a bad one for you financially.
So, I repeat the question I always ask at the beginning of this show. Does anyone really know exactly how the pros are compensated and, more importantly, how their partners are selected? Can't be a blind draw (I wouldn't think), which means that there's some subjective selection going on. Which could lead to some hard feelings I would imagine. They must have some way to "take care" of the pros; and they guard that information pretty well. But inquiring minds want to know. ;)
juancmjr 09-26-08, 11:21 PM Maybe the reason Cheryl is bigger is because running her studio involves more business management and less dancing or training future professionals on her part.
Cal1981 09-26-08, 11:29 PM Have you not read the posts above? Or were you just adding your concurrence?
Just concurring. I've always thought that, although Cheryl is not what I would call "beautiful" in a classic sense, she is quite smashing and hotter than hell. That shag hairdo of hers is an amazing look for her. She does look to be a bit heavier though but that doesn't mean that I would throw her .....yada, yada, yada:D
Ron Temple 09-27-08, 03:13 AM Watch it!

stunpals 09-27-08, 08:57 AM How about some love for Ashley Delgrossi. (spelling?)
She was looking very nice the other night.

archiguy 09-27-08, 11:00 AM Does Kym look a little... ummm... larger in the breat region? I figured standing next to Warren Sapp would make everything look smaller...
Kym is a goddess. Best bod in DWTS, without doubt. There are those who may propose Edyta for that honor but Kym has better boobs and smoother curves. My God, that sounds horribly sexist and that sort of objectification is offensive to many women, and to those ladies I do apologize, but you see, I felt the need to provide proof of my position since it is sure to be challenged by the Julianne faction. ;) My interest in the show always flags considerably when she's eliminated (...and this cycle she gets the football player, which is an automatic pass into the finals. Figures.)
She's so perfect, I doubt I could do any better if I had god-like powers and were to "design" the ideal woman from scratch. I bow before the transcendent physical luminescence that is Kym. Plus, she's got that hot Aussie accent workin' for her, as if she needed anything else. :)
nlk10010 09-27-08, 11:00 AM There is no credibility on this show obviously anymore.
And this you just figured out? (just agreeing with you) :)
The popular vote and the producers' instructions to the judges are just skewing the results too much for me.
To the poster who mentioned Ashley? You are soooo right; I was stunned at how hot she looked.
We all know the reason the show is stretched out, but let's face it: if we were the recipients of the extra commercial cash wouldn't we want DWTS to go on forever? It's hard to say no to extra money. :)
I'm not sure what Lacey's qualifications are (if she's just West Coast swing or she has a ballroom title) but let's face it: most of the pros are Latin/Rhythm specialists and not Standard/Smooth, so I'm not sure it makes much difference. If you compete to any extent you are going to be able to do the other dances (I mean, Quickstep isn't a routine dance for most any of the pros, except for maybe Inna (RIP) and Kym).
I was going to say Brooke was good but not as good as the judges made her out to be, I thought Toni was better, Ted was good, Cody was good, Warren was, considering how I thought he would perform, amazingly light-footed. The pandering to Susan was pathetic. I feel bad for Corky; I mean, 3-time world Latin champion, I know he's older but I'd like to see more of him (brings me back to the old PBS competition show days).
There! I feel better now.

That's basically what I've heard too. But from what I've heard, that's still a lot better of deal and is much more reliable than the income for a broadway chorus hoofer (this, of course, does not apply to headliners). And the DWTS' pros seem to be getting a lot of spinoff business, like the commercial that Edyta and Alec were in. Dancing tends to be a really poorly paid profession considering how much work and talent goes into it.
...and, more importantly, how their partners are selected? Can't be a blind draw (I wouldn't think), which means that there's some subjective selection going on. Which could lead to some hard feelings I would imagine. They must have some way to "take care" of the pros; and they guard that information pretty well. But inquiring minds want to know. ;)
They have actually talked about the selection process on one of the shows and admitted to doing some body type and personality matching. So the pairings are not random. And I suspect this might be part of the reason that we saw four pros bow out this season. I also suspect that if a big enough celebrity demanded a particular partner then they would probably do it.

well to each his own i guess. i know all about her boobs, being a big fan of her for a long time now. normally, i would just dismiss them as fake and move on but not with her, it's such a good job that they don't put me off at all.
this woman is amazing and not just for her looks, to pull off what she did on this show, 6 months after having her 4th baby, well, i've never big a bigger fan than right now.
thank you lord for brooke burke. :)
stunpals 09-29-08, 07:40 AM Brooke knows she's hot. I wonder if Kym does. I think we need more side-by-side pics to inspect for general hotness.
IrmoGamecoq 09-29-08, 09:34 AM Kym is a goddess.
While I still prefer a few others over her, you've omitted one important component of Kym's hotness: Those crossed eyes. They give that ever-so-small hint at utter craziness.
IrmoGamecoq 09-29-08, 09:35 AM To me, Toni Braxton looks younger now than she did when her album first came out.
I agree with this. She's definitely in the best shape I've ever seen for her.
IrmoGamecoq 09-29-08, 09:37 AM :D Yep, it's gettin close to the ol' roll her in flour time...Note: these comments are meant to be motivational ;). I'd love to see her in earlier season(s) form.
Understood. She has a chance to get about mid-way or so this season, so we'll see if she can tighten up and do me/us proud. :D
humdinger70 09-29-08, 12:03 PM Interesting bit from Peter King in his Monday Morning QB piece from today (Sept. 29) at sportsillustrated.com:
Ten Things I Think I Think
1. I think these are my quick-hit thoughts of Week Four:
a. Warren, Warren, Warren. Let's not go big-dogging the cast at Dancing With the Stars. This will likely be the first and the last time I quote the gossip site TMZ.com, but it reported thusly on Warren Sapp, who had a surprisingly nimble debut on the show last week: "If voting were up to the cast and crew of DWTS, we're told Warren Sapp would be the first to go. Our spies at DWTS tell TMZ Sapp's big head and man-diva attitude are causing problems. We're told he talks down to everybody ... yells at people and consistently walks out of rehearsals with partner Kym Johnson.''

oakie doakie, here's brooke.
During Lance and Lacey’s dance there were a few seconds of a blank screen. It went all green with the ABC bug still sitting in the lower right corner. Was this local to the NY market? Was this a censor?
...…and then-- during Kim and Mark’s post dance judges comments, the audio went all flooey. The surround channels were several seconds out of synch but it was fine a moment later.
Cal1981 09-29-08, 11:32 PM Pretty good PQ tonight. Does anyone feel that the DD5.1 audio is always very bass heavy on this particular show? I find myself knocking my subwoofer's level down a few ticks or I get a lot of rumbling. I've also noticed that the judges' microphones seem a bit overamped. They can sound very breathy at times.
During Lance and Lacey’s dance there were a few seconds of a blank screen. It went all green with the ABC bug still sitting in the lower right corner. Was this local to the NY market? Was this a censor? The fiber feed to ABC had a hit. The backup satellite feed was taken to air for the remainder of the show. The audio drop on Bruno referring to Len during their evaluation was the censors.
Last year, I had crazy heavy bass, it seems a little better this year. Maybe there is some adjustment the affiliante can make?

Cal1981 09-30-08, 02:16 PM OK show last night but I'm still not as hooked as I have been in previous years. The judges were pretty honest last night with Kim, Maurice and some others bring bludgeoned about the head pretty nicely. Cloris did better but really has to go. The stunt casting appeal is wearing thin. For someone who is beautiful, built like nobody's business, a former Playmate and a noted publicity hound, Kim seems to be totally lost. She even expresses doubts about her own appeal and sexiness at times (no worries darling, no worries at all). It's pretty weird. I have been very impressed with Toni Braxton. Not only does she look great and is dancing well but she seems to be able to dramatically change her look from show to show. When she came out last night, I almost had to blink to make sure that it was her. The makeup made her into a completely different person from last weeks version.
RKRocha 09-30-08, 02:36 PM In Len's comments to Cody after the rumba with Julianne, did Len reference that Cody was 'excited down there'? Swear he said something to that effect..

Gmichael2 09-30-08, 03:14 PM Can I just have one of each please?:D
Mac The Knife 09-30-08, 04:38 PM I can't figure out what's going on with the judging this season. How the heck does that dance of Warren's justify getting the top score of the night?!
I've disagreed with the judges before, but at least I understood what they were trying to do. This season, I can't even guess at what they're up to.
Anyway, I think Toni is a bit lucky that she got that score for the rumba and she won't have to did it again for several weeks. She did a good job on the 'movement' part of the dancing, but there wasn't any connection at all between her and Alec. IMHO, it was as "cold" as Kim's rumba which deserved to get hammered since it also lacked the 'movement' too.
It seems that Kim is this season's Monica Seles. You just keep thinking, "she can't really be that bad at this, can she?"
Mac The Knife 09-30-08, 04:44 PM ...…and then-- during Kim and Mark’s post dance judges comments, the audio went all flooey. The surround channels were several seconds out of synch but it was fine a moment later.
Yeah I saw/heard both of those.
My favorite miscue of the season so far was, IIRC last Tuesday, at the start of the show all the couples are lined-up and they're panning across the couples, when the cameraman panned across Edtya's chest, he did a double-take, came to an abrupt stop and then backed-up to get another shot. :D
SowegaBowler 09-30-08, 07:35 PM For me, last night's show was so-so; nearly half the couples were subpar. Even Brooke, who nailed both her routines last week, was not quite as impressive with her paso doble (in other words, she paso'd but did not quite doble.;))
Even so, there were some bright spots. Misty did well on her dance; she got some extra brownie points from me for that leg kick. Warren shined on his routine too, and is now at the top of my leaderboard, with Misty a close second and Brooke third.
Logic would dictate Cloris would be the one sent packing tonight, but if the nursing-home set gives her another stay of execution, Kim should be the one to go.
Cal1981 09-30-08, 08:35 PM Even so, there were some bright spots. Misty did well on her dance; she got some extra brownie points from me for that leg kick.
Yeah, I was really wowed by Misty's legs. She did some kicks and "over" moves that were great. The world class athlete in her really shows at times.
juancmjr 10-01-08, 01:12 AM I didn't think the AARP extended their lobbying efforts into competitive TV shows. :D
IMO Kim's efforts were inhibited, maybe even lazy, or it didn't seem as if she put as much effort into the dancing as she said she did. Sure she's nice to look at, but I wish there wasn't such a thing as "reality TV star."
Warren really knows how to sport the eyeliner. :p
Is it me or did Jessica Simpson seem a bit off key? Guess that's what ProTools is for.
Cheryl put on some weight, but she sure as hell can still sell a dance !!
humdinger70 10-01-08, 01:30 AM It's late enough...
The Corky (father) vs. Mark (son) competition is over. Mark and Kim are out, Corky and Cloris go on.
Then again, I'm not sure who came out better as a result of this. :D:D:D:D
humdinger70 10-01-08, 01:31 AM Was ABC's broadcasting on the West Coast bad or what? Tons of macroblocking and sound stuttering on tonight's results show. Not up to the usual standards.

Not sure if that's a good thing or not?
I noticed some weir dsound issues this week also. The center was much lower than last week for me and other weirdness. It is like they are playing with the Dolby Digital settings each week.

I was pretty sure that she was syncing last night. All of the guitars had loop plugs and her vocals sounded too clean and "antispetic". It was nice to see Pasha and Anya from SYTYCD on the show. It looks like that show is cross-pollinating to DWTS more and more, a good thing.
Warren really knows how to sport the eyeliner. :p:D Yeah, he is kind of scary. Sometimes his feminine side is more vibrant than Misty’s is. :p
No Kristi Yamaguchi type this year, that's for sure.
(prohibitive favorite)
Not sure if that's a good thing or not? Here are the three Stars who I think have a chance of being in the finals. I have to see a couple of more dances before I can pick the winner but I think the odds on favorite is in this group--
Toni Braxton, Brooke Burke, Cody Linley
Those pros with the least promise and hopefully, soon to go—
Rocco DiSpirito, Cloris Leachman, Maurice Green and Susan Lucci
Finally the wild cards—those who could be in the finals if they improve—
Lance Bass, Warren Sapp and Misty May-Treanor
Jeffery Ross stunk and deserved to be first out. Ted never had a fan base. He should still be dancing. Kim was a major disappointment. What a dead beat. She makes Jessica Simpson look like a Rhodes Scholar.
I guess the comments about Kim K's posterior will now diminish here; however, here's a parting shot: Remember in the first show of this season when she wondered aloud why she had such poor balance? The answer is obvious, no?

I thought she sounded horrible. Even told wifey, "At least she isn't lip syncing. No one would sound that bad on purpose." I also noticed that the volume cut out a couple of times when she wasn't holding the mic right. I doubt she was syncing.
Cross-pollinating is fun though.

Disregard. My local affiliate, KGTV, had just added a subchannel that day.
Idiots! :mad::mad::mad::eek::eek::eek:
The "I Kissed A Girl" song selection for Lance and Lacey was speculated way back in this post (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=14269750#post14269750) in the SYTYCD thread by tvrbob86 (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/member.php?u=7702848). That and "Baby's Got Back" for Kim were pretty funny.
Mac The Knife 10-01-08, 03:09 PM ^^^ Yeah, but would someone please tell Lacey that Lance is gay. She stills seems to be clueless on this issue.

I thought that's what was supposed to be ironic in that song selection. It was supposed to be about "him".
:D Yeah, he is kind of scary. Sometimes his feminine side is more vibrant than Misty’s is. :pSay that to her face.:D
Lacey even said something like how she idolized him. She said somethign like, When I was a kid you were supposed to marry me, now I know thats not going to happen.
I think she knows.
I still don;t get the comments on Kims booty. She looks normal to me - not flat but certainly not overly large.

 Understatement.
As for the earlier posting about Lance and the I Kissed A Girl choice of song, IMO it's ABC/Disney executives saying OK we'll let the gay guy on but lets set him straight. Part of that plan was to stick him with Lacy, who, when he was with N'Sync, was in love with him and plainly said so after their first routine. It must be working, since he kissed her. :p;)
SowegaBowler 10-01-08, 07:35 PM stunpals: Good pic of Kym Johnson-it almost put me into cardiac arrest!;)

I hardly noticed anything off key; but then again, I don't listen to J.S. that much (IMO her sister Ashlee is more talented). That said, I kind of enjoyed her performance last night; she showed that she can be a fairly decent country singer.

I thought that song selection was a bit dubious; the song is a bit catchy, but IMO not a good fit for paso doble. Besides, a more appropriate Katy Perry tune for Lance would be "Ur So Gay.";)
Meanwhile, I was not too surprised by Kim Kardashian getting the boot; she was not quite in the same league with Warren, Misty or Brooke. I could not help but laugh at Cloris shaking like a leaf while waiting for the elimination announcement. If she shook like that when doing her cha-cha last week, she would have received better scores.:D
Ron Temple 10-01-08, 08:38 PM Either the chef or Cloris goes next followed by Susan Lucci. There is upside to several of the others, but I'm guessing Maurice follows. It's anybodys' mirror ball after that if they keep improving. I'm pulling for Misty, but she doesn't have an entertainers ease which might hurt her...as well as...as some have noted ;), a bit of a T888 air about her. Now if she'd use it to make Brooke choke, then it's all good :D.
wblynch 10-01-08, 08:46 PM I just got here but has anyone else noticed how much that Cody kid looks and acts like Ellen DeGeneres ?

shaggyZ 10-02-08, 01:28 AM Did anyone else think it was awkward when Kim said her father passed away 5 years ago today, then when they ask her partner about his dad he's like, I'm really proud of him and I'm glad he's still alive. I'm sure he meant alive as in on the show but the crowd was just silent for a few seconds. I kind of cringed.
humdinger70 10-02-08, 01:43 PM If you have Showtime, make sure you watch (ore record) "Inside the NFL" as long as Warren is on DWTS. (Warren is one of the regulars including James Brown, Phil Simms and Cris Collinsworth).
They definitely love to needle Warren about it and last night, had Cris ("FuFu Berry") Collinsworth cutting a rug (i.e., dancing) across the studio floor wearing the outfit (in Cris' size of course) Warren used in his paso doble. Fun stuff! :D:D

Brooke Burke: Misty May Is ‘Out of’ DWTS
October 6, 2008
It looks like Dancing with the Stars will be down one competitor when it airs Monday night.
Misty May-Treanor, 31, has injured herself and is out of the competition, her castmate Brooke Burke confirms.
“It’s such a sad situation,” Burke said Monday during a radio interview on 104.3 MY fm’s Valentine in the Morning. “She did hurt her Achilles tendon. I don’t know if she tore it or she ruptured it. It happened this week. She’s out of the competition, I mean, just like that.”
ABC confirmed the Olympian’s injury on Saturday, saying at the time she was “resting comfortably at home.” The network will make an official announcement regarding May-Treanor’s Dancing future on tonight’s show.
But according to Burke, May-Treanor may undergo surgery for her injury.
“Forget about the competition,” Burke said. “This is her jumping mechanism, so we’re all really concerned for her. She may be having surgery this week. We don’t know yet. But it’s such a bummer.”
“You take somebody like her who’s a supreme athlete,” Burke said, continuing, “[and] you think she’s one of the strongest in the bunch. We’re just doing stuff we’ve never done before and pushing our bodies to the limits. And just like that it’s over for her.” –Brian Orloff
SowegaBowler 10-06-08, 06:33 PM DANG! This cycle of DWTS lost who was IMO onf of my favorites. I was just beginning to like Misty's moves. :(
EDIT: The story posted by wblynch above came from People.com:
http://tvwatch.people.com/2008/10/06/brooke-burke-misty-may-is-out-of-dwts/?cnn=yes
EDIT 2: From the looks of the rehearsal clips that were shown tonight, Misty's injury looked pretty bad. It may be just as well she withdraws and lets everything heal.
EDIT 3: Misty, in crutches and with a cast on her left leg, was just interviewed by Tom a few minutes ago; she was very gracious about this setback (she said she will proudly cheer from the sidelines). She ruptured her left Achilles tendon; it looked horrible on the X-ray.
stunpals 10-07-08, 09:53 AM Watched my Saints somehow lose to the Vikings last night. Still not sure how that happened but...
Did I miss anything worth re-watching today?
humdinger70 10-07-08, 10:48 AM This show has an injury bugaboo on par with the NFL! A few pokes and prods and twisted ankles have put a few on the trainer's table (both celebrity and pro dancer as well).
And now Misty-May is on IR! (Injured Reserve for you non-NFL folks - out for the season)
I'm starting to wonder how badly out of shape and athletically unprepared these celebrities are when they do this show!
If anyone doesn't think by now that dance is not athletic is going to be sadly mistaken!

Misty May was almost certainly the best conditioned participant, amateur or professional, on the show this cycle. Considering her day job requires her to jump explosively out of sand a few dozen times a day, it's almost beyond belief that whatever moves she was doing with regard to the show could rupture her achilles tendon. I suspect that she had probably already damaged it during volleyball and the last fibers holding it together just gave way during her dance rehearsal.

:confused::rolleyes: To imply that Misty was not fit is beyond absurd. As Archie said, “her day job requires her to jump explosively out of sand a few dozen times a day...” Some people cannot even walk in sand let alone compete successfully in it.
As mentioned, this was either a fluke or a pre existing injury. Bummer for her, I hope she’s back 100% for her real career. This will certainly make future athletes think twice before signing on to this show. I could just picture Bill Parcells watching last night (yeah he’s a closet DWTS fan :p—he skips MNF and tunes to DWTS :D). He’s looking at the TV saying, “Seeeeeeeeee… I told Jason that this could happen!” ;)

Larry, I'm betting this injury will cook her beach volleyball career. Can't see her coming back from this one, considering how much stress is placed on that tendon doing what she does. Now, that said, I had heard she might be thinking of moving to traditional 6 person volleyball and specializing as a setter, with the goal of making the 2012 Olympic team. That could certainly prolong her career since she wouldn't be putting as much stress on that repaired tendon.
stunpals 10-07-08, 11:56 AM Too bad they can't just plug Keri Walsh into her spot.

If you’re still boycotting the show Archie—you picked the right season. It’s getting real tired and tough to sit through. The Cloris Leachman nonsense, the extra hours on the first week and now-- So what’s going to happen tonight? Are they going to string everyone along until the end to say they’re not eliminating anyone due to Misty’s situation. That will be lame.
By the way-- I thought Julianne and Cody were the most entertaining last night. They have great chemistry. That Cody kid playing the guitar on Julianne’s leg and hip—well—that was funny ;) and she was great. Brooke and Derek were very good too but I can’t stand him always groping his partners, every season, with the constant arm hugging and tugging.
humdinger70 10-07-08, 12:05 PM With Misty-May out due to injury, DWTS will probably do what they usually "have to" do when a contestant is forced to drop out (for whatever reasons).
Everyone who danced this past Monday move on. Misty and Maks are "eliminated" (quotes mine). This past Monday night's tally (judges score and audience vote) will be combined with next Monday night's tally to give us next couple eliminated.
They'll make a big deal out of it anyway.
Please, please, please... Let it be Corky and Cloris who are the ones gone.
Cloris has outlived her welcome. Her outlandish personality has grown to be a desparate need for attention.
Not untypical for a Hollywood type, but not a pretty thing to be exposed to on an ongoing basis.
Last season, Adam Corola was a bit of a big mouth, but he tempered his comments with praise for others and tended to shut up just before becoming obnoxious. Cloris should have watched tapes of last season.
archiguy 10-07-08, 12:11 PM Too bad they can't just plug Keri Walsh into her spot.
Not a chance. She has one thing on her mind these days: reproduction. :p I've never heard of anyone wanting to breed with as much single-minded fervor as she exhibited during her post-Olympic interviews. Her husband must be one tired hombre these days. ;)

That's one way to rid the show of her - put her on a unicycle and watch her fall.
davemcs 10-07-08, 01:01 PM Derek also knocked himself out in practice this week also...Someones alalogy to the NFL is certainly proving itself out!

Not to belabor the point but Misty’s fitness, as good as it was, is based purely on her being a beach volley ball star.
This kind of dancing places a whole new set of stresses and pressures on the body. I’m no expert but my guess is that as fit as her body was, it was not prepared for the rigors of ballroom dancing!
Kim K, recently booted from DWTS, answered those who speculated publicly about her figure and the possibility of surgical enhancements. She said she's "been a C cup since age 11," and she released a picture from her childhood to prove it. If you look at that picture, you may say she looks less her stated age in it than did the Chinese gymnasts. But there you have it...

Dude, you've got to be kidding. I know there are physical demands made of a ballroom dancer, and it's certainly harder than it looks, yes, but.... really now. This is a world class athlete, an Olympic gold medalist in a very demanding sport, we're talking about here. I daresay the physical demands demanded of her in her day job dwarf those of her evening gig.
With Misty-May out due to injury, DWTS will probably do what they usually "have to" do when a contestant is forced to drop out (for whatever reasons).
You appear to be clarvoiant. Except for the Cloris and Corky part, though there is still time for them to screw up next week.
SowegaBowler 10-08-08, 10:55 AM As for those who DID dance this week...
Best routine IMO was Brooke's waltz; it was nearly flawless. She has now regained the top spot in this race. Warren, despite stumbling a bit with his waltz, is still my overall #2. Toni is still #3 right now, but after a lackluster waltz, her star may be starting to fall.
Maurice's waltz was a close second to Brooke's this week; he seems to have now developed into a serious contender.
To use an oddsmaker's phrase, I have taken Cloris off the boards; she is not quite as competitive as the other 8 remaining competitors. She is still good for a few laughs though...;)
Perhaps a major reason why Cloris is still there:

Perhaps a major reason why Cloris is still there.. It makes me wonder about the mentality of a person reading that billboard-- and suddenly a spark goes off and they become stimulated enough to vote.
So what’s going to happen tonight? Are they going to string everyone along until the end to say they’re not eliminating anyone... That will be lame. I was right… but I wasn’t talking about DWTS. I was referring to the Debate. ;):D

I'm not clairvoyant, just smart enough to know that "past is prologue" - this situation (contestant leaves before being voted off) happened before when Sara Evans dropped out several seasons ago (different circumstances).
At least they're consistent.
An interesting change is that when they were down to the four remaining pairs, Tom announced that with Misty's withdrawl, no one would be eliminated (they didn't wait until the very end) but did show who would have been eliminated had the injury situation not happened - Rocco and Karina had the lowest combined score.
Gak. We have a "Master P" situation with Cloris. She really has trouble with the more fast-paced dances and she should be gone, but she's being saved by her fan base (the AARP set, most likely!) far too long for my taste.
IrmoGamecoq 10-08-08, 01:53 PM Gang - I've enjoyed reading all the posts, but I don't have much perspective on most of them as I had to unwillingly join Archiguy's sabbattical from this show due to DVR bottlenecks. Hopefully when (if) it finally moves back to its rightful 1 hour timeslot I'll be able to get back on board again.
I'm sure Cheryl misses me but it's all I can do...

Irmo, she's dieting and working out like crazy. Another 3 weeks and she'll be presentable ;).
Ron Temple 10-08-08, 02:21 PM Maks dance with Edyta last night would have been hard to pull off for Misty. Great choreography, but it looked extremely difficult for an amateur. Maybe Kristi could have done it. I would have liked to have seen it with Misty though.

I'm guessing 3 weeks is when the show returns to a 1 hour format. She knows when I'll be making my return. ;)
wblynch 10-08-08, 04:08 PM My Tivos have not missed an airing yet.
I love skipping all the emo junk. Just get to the dancing!
teevman 10-08-08, 05:17 PM i dunno, i've always enjoyed the show but this go round just isn't doing it for me, not sure if its cloris's wrinkley a** boobs or just overload but i seriously think this show will die a fast death, should have stuck with once a year.
