It's actually a significant element to this season. I don't think she'll win, but she'll be long remembered for her ambition to participate with such a challenge. While dancing is the central to the show, the human element also plays a large part. That’s all well and good but as I said, in my eyes, she’s not really a “star” therefore why is she on this show?
Obviously some  might think she is a celebrity and have their bedroom walls covered with her modeling posters from years ago. :p
Fine, then there’s no further need to argue.
It’s brought up because this is her "celebrity" and that is not right. It appears that your definition of celebrity differs from the BBC's. I assume the international hit that you will be producing has a narrower definition.

This show is produced and broadcast on this side of the Atlantic. I’m not talking about the shows roots or previous incarnations.
If I’m the only person that never heard of HM prior to her marriage to PM, then I’m wrong… but I think not and it really isn’t that big a deal. I’m just responding to personal attacks that were probably directed at me for things that I said that unintentionally struck a nerve.

Good grief. They've had beauty queens from pageants few care about anymore, faded actors I've never heard of who starred in long ago kid's shows I never watched, singers I've never heard of (Willa Ford? Huh?) etc., etc. The definition of "star" is pretty elastic for the purposes this show. She's as much of one as most any of 'em. Nice bod for a 39 year old as well, and that's a key ingredient of casting this show, which none of us are likely to complain about. :p

The show originates from CBS (http://www.ocatv.com/shows/show/54) in LA. I suppose one could say the effort is by ABBCBS. Any more erroneous information?

Ok, I stand corrected, regardless though, it is for the consumption of an American audience and that was my point regarding your original BBC point.

She's only 39? Good grief, I figured she was at least a decade older than that by her haggard appearance in those cringe-inducing close-ups.
Ok, I stand corrected, regardless though, it is for the consumption of an American audience and that was my point regarding your original BBC point. The format of the UK and US shows are identical, and both Len and Bruno are judges on the UK version. The "Americanization" is primarily the hosts and celebrities. While it could be stated that Heather Mills is less known in the US, it doesn't mean she is unknown and does not have an element of celebrity. To state that the only reason she is appearing on the show is to exploit her disability is quite a stretch.
If they have Paris Hilton as a contestant, then I will agree. Little chance of that as she wouldn't show up.
Heather Mills is only 39 years old? She appears much older than that, and I don't mean to suggest she's unattractive.
It would have been pretty funny if they had finished off with Laila dragging Max across the floor by the hair, similar to the floor drag that Joey and Kym ended with. :D It's still early in the season... we might see that. :D
  Hey what’s up? Anyone else having HD problems? I’m TWCNYC and it’s coming in as SD. Is this local or is everyone getting SD? :( I'm watching on a delay. That's why I just noticed.

humdinger70 04-10-07, 10:53 PM Issues with HD at ABC - follow this thread..
http://avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10265872
Note: there's been an update within the thread that the west coast prime time programming WILL be in HD.
humdinger70 04-10-07, 11:02 PM Update - recap program just started (8:00 PM PDT, ABC on TWC-San Diego) and it looks to be HD. It's widescreen at least.
No HD in the ET, PT is fine.
humdinger70 04-11-07, 01:59 AM Another week done and another elimination. And how the heck did Clyde survive this week? He must be channeling Master P's posse!
So it's buh-bye to Leeza and Tony. She gave it her best, but she knew she'd go sooner or later.
Other things:
1) Julianne must have been channeling Edyta tonight, And a little "fan service" to boot! (anime fans know what I mean!)
2) The musical guests - well as soon as I saw Cheryl and Edyta in the boots, I was wondering - were these the guys who came up with "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy"? Sure were. I thought also "Ok, is Drew Lachey gonna dance with Cheryl? Would work great if he did." Sure enough, out he came - with the leap over Cheryl just like he did in his freestyle in season 2 (he should know how to do it - he was doing it for weeks on the DWTS live tour!).
3) Samantha is preggers! No wonder her rack got pumped up! Guess she may not be around for season 5, whenever it starts. Who replaces her? Maybe Lisa Rinna?
4) So far, the women have been eliminated (Paulina, Shandi, Leeza). Are the men that much better?
Next week, all Latin - samba and rumba time!
HDTVFanAtic 04-11-07, 04:28 AM No HD in the ET, PT is fine.
Anyone see the irony in this. They can get a HD Signal from CBS to ABC - all the way back to NY and can be archieved there as it was shown in HD on the West Coast, but they can't turn it around and get it back out to the East Coast Affiliates.
4) So far, the women have been eliminated (Paulina, Shandi, Leeza). Are the men that much better?
No, but women voting heavy on this show - they always seem to elminate the better looking females - look @ Willa last season.
If Julianne wasn't dancing with a male they liked, they would vote her and her partner off too.
Netmaster 04-11-07, 06:28 AM Monday nights show was one of the first shows that I set to record while I was at work, using my new HD DVR and was the first one I looked at. Simply amazing to look at. So crystal clear and vivid that you feel as though you are right on the dance floor with them. Absolutley amazing. Unfortunatly I only set it to record once and I missed tuesdays but since ABCs HD was on the blink (not a regular occurance I hope) it wasn't no huge loss. I'll set the other airings to record. I deleted it after watching it, but now I wish I hadn't. It looked so awesome that I would have enjoyed showing it to the other family members to watch their jaws drop in amazement.
IrmoGamecoq 04-11-07, 08:32 AM Heather Mills is only 39 years old? She appears much older than that, and I don't mean to suggest she's unattractive.
That's okay, I'll suggest it. :)
IrmoGamecoq 04-11-07, 08:35 AM Bummer that Leeza is gone, she's from the SC town that's in my screenname here...she was very poor on Monday night though.
And, I'm sure it was "work" done or whatever, but she looks absolutely incredible for 50 years old. Great figure for her age. Her hubby's a lucky man.
archiguy 04-11-07, 08:39 AM So, all the hot-looking females are gone. I hold Heather's looks in a little higher regard than some here, but we can probably all agree, the real lookers from the contestant ranks are gone. But Clyde's still around, doing his best Master P impersonation and probably practicing 6 hours a week (trying to fit it in around his golf game, no doubt). And Billy Ray, too...? This is ridiculous.
IrmoGamecoq 04-11-07, 08:57 AM So, all the hot-looking females are gone.
Yep, but to clarify...only the hot "stars" are whittled down now...the dancers are the real "stars" on this for me, and there are plenty of them left. :)
Anyone see the irony in this. They can get a HD Signal from CBS to ABC - all the way back to NY and can be archieved there as it was shown in HD on the West Coast, but they can't turn it around and get it back out to the East Coast Affiliates. From the other thread (http://avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10266491&&#post10266491) the problem was a router failure just before prime time. Although it does seem an irony that it got 3000 miles across country, I doubt the poor souls who had to deal with the last minute change of plans see it that way.
Mac The Knife 04-11-07, 01:59 PM Update - recap program just started (8:00 PM PDT, ABC on TWC-San Diego) and it looks to be HD. It's widescreen at least.
Huh. No HD in Phoenix. I never have been able to figure out which feed we get here especially since we don't do daylight savings time. But aren't the Mountain and Pacific feed at the same time?
Mac The Knife 04-11-07, 02:15 PM I was watching Extra before the results show last night and they had on a bunch of the DWTS pros pimping an exercise video. However, the interesting part was that Ashely Delgrosso was on the show and was very knocked-up. She looked like she was in her last trimester. So we now know at least one reason why Ashely wasn't on the show this season.
And then the results show came on and in one of the shots I thought it looked like Samantha had a little baby bump starting to show. I initially blew it off as my just being sensitized to the issue after seeing Ashely. But later on they actually made the annoucement for Sam!
A similar thing happened with the "Save a Horse" performance. On the first shot of Cheryl I thought "isn't that the same outfit that she wore when she danced to this song with Drew?" and then I noticed a lot of the choreography was the same and then Drew came out.
I hope this is the start of a trend and we get a cameo from Stacy.
AFA Sam missing next season is concerned, I not so sure she'll have to unless she has a problem pregnancy or if she just doesn't want to. It's not like she's one of the dancers where it would be difficult to handle all the rehearsals and be at the end of a pregnancy at the same time. All Sam has to do is stand there and read the prompter, so she could probably pull that off even in her third trimester.
nashvillecat 04-11-07, 02:22 PM This season is by far the worst performers I ever seen. Judges are "right on" -- these guys dont put in the time. They have very little intensity.
A huge disappointment.
Joey is the ONLY one who can dance!
humdinger70 04-11-07, 02:43 PM Are they running out of viable B-, C- and D-listers to do the show? Most of the A-list people wouldn't have anything to do with DWTS (a 20 million audience count not worth the time and effort to do the practicing - and where's my stunt double?).
However, I could be wrong if even one of them showed up and survived more than 1 or 2 weeks!
IrmoGamecoq 04-11-07, 02:45 PM I was watching Extra before the results show last night and they had on a bunch of the DWTS pros pimping an exercise video. Seems like Ashley was already starting to "plump up" a little last season when we last saw her.
I'm drawing a complete blank on the Samantha you speak of.
And Drew is a former champion. As much as I'd like to see a Stacy cameo, she isn't a champion so it may not be as likely.
IrmoGamecoq 04-11-07, 02:48 PM these guys dont put in the time.
What did the judges say, 13 hours of practice a week?
Granted, there are 2 nights that they are on air (the performance and the results show), but that leaves 5 other days out of the week for practice. At 13 hours, that's only a little more than 2.5 hours of practice a day. That's pitiful. You know there are a few that are really pulling that average down too, and I suspect I know who they are.
Huh. No HD in Phoenix. I never have been able to figure out which feed we get here especially since we don't do daylight savings time. But aren't the Mountain and Pacific feed at the same time?Because they aren't always the same, the practice of delaying the east feed may be used year round. Only Fox supplies a Mountain time feed.

I think whoever makes the seletion process should screen a bit more. If these "stars" have too much on their plate (i.e. Clyde having to elave for China in the morning and the TN guy having a photo shoot), then diferent people should be chosen.

The "Samantha you speak of" is Samantha Harris, the co-host of the show along with Tom Bergeron. There had been some initial commentary on Samantha's appearance (i.e. somewhat more "buxom") this season vs. last season - and now you know, the rest of the story (with apologies to Paul Harvey).
IIf these "stars" have too much on their plate (i.e. Clyde having to elave for China in the morning and the TN guy having a photo shoot), then diferent people should be chosen.I thought the TN guy was cited as one of the harder working contestants. Clyde doesn't seem to take this too seriously, although he's far better than Master P was.

Yes, Billy ray Cyrus does work the hardest. I was merely stating that some have TOO hectic a schedule for this show.

Duh.
I guess I had my mind fixated on the dancers...
Btw, Samantha, while pretty, is one of the weakest hosts I can ever remember. I don't know if it's the cue cards she's reading, or her delivery of her lines, but she comes off so goofy and idiotic most of the time, and often clumsily cuts off the contestants' interviews. Of course, Bergeron is a bit of a goofball too...

Of course, Bergeron is a bit of a goofball too...I agree. I always feel uncomfortable at the end of the show when Sam tells us who’s in or out. She’s always off the mark. Even the contestants seem confused. I don’t know if it’s her miss cues or it’s the booth’s fault.
Tom is extremely quick witted. :D He had some funny adlibs last night. He always has one or two droll zingers. Once again, I don’t know if it’s him, or if he’s fed the lines from the booth. They do wear those tiny earphones.

Exactly. She's horrible. And, when she attempts to adlib, it almost always comes off bad. Of course, it's hard to tell when she's adlibbing because she sounds that way all the time.
And, she never fails to cut off the contestants in their post-performance interview. I know they're pressed for time and all, but sheesh, manage your questions a little better.

I actually hesitated to criticize Tom in that post above. Mostly because, compared to Samantha he comes across as a seasoned professional.
I'm pretty certain that the zingers are Tom's own doing. He comes across as an entertaining seasoned professional compared to Ryan Seacrest. Paula vs Samantha is a ditsy toss up.

I'd agree that they're probably his own jokes...as I've become accustomed to his corny/goofy type of humor from his stints on Hollywood Squares and America's Funniest Home Videos.
Comparing Samantha to Paula is pretty funny, but they have much different roles. Paula's not expected to "host" as Samantha is. A better comparison for Paula would be Carrie Ann and she'd get blown out of the water there in all facets.
Personally, I'm surprised that Samantha hasn't been jettisoned from the show by now. There's no reason Tom couldn't carry this show as host all by himself.
Personally, I'm surprised that Samantha hasn't been jettisoned from the show by now. There's no reason Tom couldn't carry this show as host all by himself. They have to go with the man and woman hosting duo. It’s part of the show's aura. After all, it is a show with male and female couples dancing. It’s a balance thing. But that doesn't mean that she shouldn't be replaced.
archiguy 04-11-07, 04:09 PM Personally, I'm surprised that Samantha hasn't been jettisoned from the show by now. There's no reason Tom couldn't carry this show as host all by himself.
I have to agree with you and Larry, Irmo. Samantha is the weakest part of the show, and has been for the last several seasons (we can't remember if she was on the initial telecast or not). She has zero wit and just doesn't have the chops for this job. My wife and I cannot understand why she's still there and hasn't been replaced already. Motherhood would give her a good "opportunity" to bow out (with a gentle shove from the producers).
On the other hand, Tom Bergeron has to have one of the quickest wits I've ever seen. He never fails to come up with the perfect quip right off the top of his head. I don't watch a lot of reality shows, well this is the only one actually, but he's so smooth, it's hard to believe there's anyone who could do it better. That's not really an easy job, to keep things flowing and the audience interested. Ryan Seacrest probably has a poster of Tom on his wall like kids do with their sports heroes. :D
HDTVFanAtic 04-12-07, 04:14 AM From the other thread (http://avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10266491&&#post10266491) the problem was a router failure just before prime time. Yes, silly me - god forbid they have redundancy - if I can have redundant routers and isp circuits in my house, I guess thats just too much to ask for ABC
Of course, I was with the the person last month that had done most of the design and installation oversight on the Master Antenna @ the Empire State Building as well as WABC-DT's backup @ 4 Times Square - and the 4 Times Square facility has better coverage than the Empire State Building (Remember that most all the ATSC for NYC was on top of the World Trade Center except for one on the Empire State Building Master Antenna - so it really wasn't designed to handle all those signals).
So of course, the question comes up - why not use the Aux @ 4 Times Square for the Main and Empire for the Aux?
Answer: Because the lease @ 4 Times Square goes up up if it is used for the Main Site instead of the Aux - and ABC doesn't want to pay the higher price - even though the coverage is better
IrmoGamecoq 04-12-07, 08:06 AM I have to agree with you and Larry, Irmo.
Hurts, huh? ;)
Samantha is the weakest part of the show, and has been for the last several seasons (we can't remember if she was on the initial telecast or not).
I'm almost certain she was. My wife and I have been watching from the beginning and I can't remember a time when we weren't annoyed by her hosting "performance."
She has zero wit and just doesn't have the chops for this job. My wife and I cannot understand why she's still there and hasn't been replaced already. Motherhood would give her a good "opportunity" to bow out (with a gentle shove from the producers).
Yep, I'm surprised it hasn't already happened. Maybe because they have a small "hit" on their hands, ABC doesn't want to mess with a good thing.
On the other hand, Tom Bergeron has to have one of the quickest wits I've ever seen. He never fails to come up with the perfect quip right off the top of his head. Tom's an old pro, I mentioned Hollywood Squares and AFHV, but that's only his recent work. I think he's kinda corny sometimes, but he's definitely a likeable guy.
Hurts, huh? ;). :D :p
I'm almost certain she was. My wife and I have been watching from the beginning and I can't remember a time when we weren't annoyed by her hosting "performance."Funny, the only person I remember from the first season (broadcast here in AMERICA TVOD  not Pluto, or Rigiel XII :p ) is Kelly  but my wife recalls that Sam wasn't the co host. There was a black chic co hosting. Not sure
IrmoGamecoq 04-12-07, 11:31 AM Funny, the only person I remember from the first season (broadcast here in AMERICA TVOD  not Pluto, or Rigiel XII :p ) is Kelly
Well, I remember J Peterman too, but point definitely taken. :)
but my wife recalls that Sam wasn't the co host. There was a black chic co hosting. Not sure
Your wife is right and I'm not. Apparently a "Lisa Canning" hosted the initial season with Tom.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0134114/
Yes, silly me - god forbid they have redundancy - if I can have redundant routers and isp circuits in my house, I guess thats just too much to ask for ABC :rolleyes:I've never worked at a facility that had redundant video routers. Often there are multiple frames in different areas tied together, but a common control system can bring them all down at the same time. Within the router there are redundant elements like power supplies, controller boards and main/backup servers for the control system. A more common problem is outgrowing the amount of inputs and outputs.
While the hardware has increased in reliability, I would say that has been offset by the problems in software and firmware. Resetting or power recycling equipment seems to have become a way of life. Equipment didn't suddenly become stupid in the "good ol days", they just died.
Funny, the only person I remember from the first season (broadcast here in AMERICA TVOD  not Pluto, or Rigiel XII :p ) is Kelly  but my wife recalls that Sam wasn't the co host. There was a black chic co hosting. Not sure :confused:The original co-host on the first season was Lisa Canning. IMO she was better. Like American Idol, its first season (in the US) was a summer replacement series.
..."Lisa Canning" hosted the initial season with Tom.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0134114/Now I remember her.
She was very emotional, always choked up and teary eyed when the “star” got the boot. The same way any Miss. America acts when the crown’s placed on her head. Very sappy.
Mac The Knife 04-12-07, 03:39 PM They have to go with the man and woman hosting duo. It’s part of the show's aura. After all, it is a show with male and female couples dancing. It’s a balance thing. But that doesn't mean that she shouldn't be replaced.
Yeah, I think they definately need a pair, one up front with the judges and one backstage with the contestants, so mixed doubles makes a lot of sense.
Even _America's Ballroom Challenge_ uses a mixed pair with Marilu Henner and Tony (can't recall his last name) the last couple of seasons and with Suzanne Sommers (IIRC or was it Sandy Duncan? damn I hate this CRS disease) in the previous seasons.
Marilu has expressed an interest in dancing on DWTS so perhaps she could use a dancing spot as an entre to the hosting gig.
IrmoGamecoq 04-12-07, 04:07 PM Now I remember her.
She was very emotional, always choked up and teary eyed when the “star” got the boot. The same way any Miss. America acts when the crown’s placed on her head. Very sappy.
I vaguely remember her now that you say that, but I'm still drawing a blank on her face. Strangely, none of the wikipedia and imdb pages I looked at featured anything close enough that I would recognize. It's weird.
Also strange is that in doing some reading up on Samantha, I discovered that she also hosted "the next Joe Millionaire." We actually used to watch that too, but I don't remember her being nearly so bubbleheaded there. Maybe it was more scripted. :)
Now don’t get mad :p .... but have you ever noticed...
As hot as Cheryl is... without her makeup... during the rehearsals... from that certain camera angle... with those freckles... she looks just like Alfalfa. :o
Clyde cracks me up. Once again he had that arm and hand up in the sky. He thinks he’s still playing defense against Jordan. :D
Was that wax thing necessary? I could understand if it were the star...
Joey was good but I couldn’t get past his “look”--- like he just jumped over the deli counter after slicing some capicola, and now he’s dancing!
Funny thing about ”Cliff” is that deep down, he thinks he’s Gene Kelly reincarnated but that’s ok, good for him. ;)
Laila—very good, second best of the night. Funny bit with her fiancé.
Apolo and Juliane were better. Excellent. The only thing missing from his performance is his lack of sexual passion with Juliane during the dance. She’s got it but he’s almost aloof towards her.
Billy Ray—cya!

humdinger70 04-17-07, 02:51 AM Forgive me, but...
CLYDE! MUST! GO! ... NOW!!

Wanna fight? :D
Clyde cracks me up. Once again he had that arm and hand up in the sky. He thinks he’s still playing defense against Jordan. :D
Yep, he clearly the worst. I think he's gone, Billy Ray will likely get more votes due to his Hanna Montana connection. The average DWTS watcher prolly doesn't even know who Clyde is.
I did think his "money grab" trip to China was pretty funny in that they made it out sound like some type of important thing.
Apolo and Juliane were better. Excellent. The only thing missing from his performance is his lack of sexual passion with Juliane during the dance. She’s got it but he’s almost aloof towards her.
I get the same impression. She is absolutely "smokin' hot" especially with that outfit she had on last night, so why the lack of passion? Perhaps Ono is gay? Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Seriously, my wife noticed a sparkling ring on her wedding finger last night. Maybe she's engaged.

Yes, please!
I saw the show and I still thought, "I hope some AVSer got a capture of that shot..."
There were some angles where they zoomed in our her rear and...well, let's just say "smokin' hot" might be an understatement in this case.
Juliane could have melted steel last night. She looked insatiable, a sexual dynamo... and Apolo? He looked like he was doing a performance of Disney on Ice. :p Their dancing was great but their chemistry was totally off. It was like Pat Boone meets Jenna Jameson.

Whoever hired Julianna deserves a really big bonus!
We've speculated a lot around here about how the celebrity men get better scores than they deserve because of the female pros they dance with. And I think Apolo & Julianna's dance last night was an excellent example of this theory. I felt like Apolo didn't do much better than Ian or Joey, but Julianna was so damn hot that I had trouble watching Apolo even on the third replay when I was specifically trying to watch him.
Is there anything a male pro could do that would get a similar reaction? I don't think so.
I wish Clyde would go home tonight, but I fear that he has enough fans to keep him around. I suspect John is going home tonight, but it's getting harder to call now. At least John hung around long enough that we got to see Edyta wearing that tiny little samba outfit. :D
There were more directorial/camera goofs last night. I wonder what's going on. I don't remember this many goofs in all the previous seasons combined.
Wanna fight?

Hey you’re right. I didn’t realize that was a goof up. I thought I just missed it.
I don't usually watch this show, but I was doing my taxes last night so I flipped it on as background while 24 was recording and you guys are NOT KIDDING! The tiger girl was definitely smoking . Quite the little task master during the training sessions too. I almost expected her to pull out the whip there... Maybe the problem is that Ono's just not used to being subserviant with the women ;)

humdinger70 04-18-07, 03:10 AM Well. Clyde has been told to glide on out of the ballroom (Finally!). He and Heather were in the bottom two.
The surprise look of the night belonged to Edyta when she found out she and John were continuing.
The pained look of the night belonged to Billy Ray when he found out he and Karina were continuing.
Netmaster 04-18-07, 04:22 AM Tonights Dancing on my local HD station that I get via D* completely blew me away. Crystal clear and not a single hiccup throughout the entire broadcast. Laila Ali is not usually the kind of woman I would consider that hot, but she was very sexy. I was surprised. Billy Ray surprises me in a different way. I always thought he'd be a really good dancer what with all that hip shaking he did during that Achy Breaky era. Looks like his dancing ability is limited to shaking his rear and little else. Joey Fatone has a bit of an unfair advantage I think, he's actually done dancing on a stage for a living and you can't tell me he hasn't already had some of the greatest dancers in the world give him lessons on dozens of other occasions. Even though John obviously doesn't have a dancers body and is clearly a bit out of his element, I think he is doing alright and is surprisingly light on his feet given his body type. He certainly isn't the worst I've seen. He has gotten a lot better since he began, and he was looking like he was really having fun and that goes a long way in my book. I give Cliff the mail man and A for effort (boy do I miss Cheers).

Carrie Ann did on stage nudity when she was dancing for Madonna. I wonder why they didn't run any of those photos?
Did anyone else notice that Cheryl may have injured her knee in that swing dance last night? At the very end when Louis whipped her between his legs, she slid feet first into the steps at the back of the stage.
Mac The Knife 04-18-07, 02:40 PM ... The tiger girl was definitely smoking . ...

Come on everyone and admit it, I know I'm not the only one that been walking around singing "Your nice, sweet fan-tas-tic... phys-i-call-y, phys-i-call-y, phys-i-call-y fit" for the last two days. :o
BTW, wtf is he saying in that line that goes "??? big ship ??? ??? ocean ??? titanic"?
And how about Macy Grey. To steal a line from Carrie Ann, I found that that strangley sex and weird all at the same time. There were a couple of times in that performance when I thought she was going to hump the mic stand. Her agent should get her the following endorsement:
"This voice brought to you by Wild Turkey 101 and Camel Unfiltereds."

You're missing out on the Pros dances when you skip the results show. There's actually a little bit of content in the DWTS results show compared to AI's results show.
BTW, who was the other blonde female in the Pro's dance last night? I thought Julianne was petite, but Julianne looked huge compared to the other girl.
Oh, I forget to comment Lisa. Did she have lip reduction surgery? ;)
Her lips almost looked normal last night compared to when she was on the show.

She must've been a new person. They also had a previous Pro out there dancing (he was with Cheryl, that's how I noticed him), but he wasn't part of this season. Maybe the blonde was the same way?

Her lips almost looked normal last night compared to when she was on the show. :D She looks like she bought her original lip enlarging surgery from Costco... returned it... and instead got the lip reduction.
I could not look at her last season. She looked like a character from Finding Nemo, :D (my wife’s line). I thought she looked like she kissed a flag pole in the middle of winter and froze to it… and got stretched off of it. :p (Like someone triple dawg dared her.)

One of the male pros in the swing dance was, I believe, an instructor in the late (un)lamented Ballroom Bootcamp series on TLC. Also, I've got to say, that, uh, how shall we put it, somewhat odd-looking pro who partnered Shandi can really dance.
And, yes, Jennifer's outfit and hair were, dare I say, perfect. Doesn't get much better than that.

Jennifer? I'm drawing a blank on Jennifer's on this show.
The pro I'm thinking of is named "Louis" and he danced with Lisa Renna on Season 2. Can't remember who he danced with on Seasons 1 and 3, but wife and I always thought he looked a little like a cross between Patrick Swayze and Harry Hamlin, but a little more on the, er, "feminine" side ...

GamerGirl 04-18-07, 05:39 PM Well after this week's show I'm picking Apolo and Julianna to go all the way, they were just awesome and burned up the floor with that sexy routine. And I don't know why some of you guys think the two of them lacked chemistry... You can't pull off that dance routine and get perfect scores without chemistry. Maybe some of you guys would be grinding against her to the point of assault lol, but I thought Apolo did a great job conveying the passion of the dance. Part of the problem in the apparent lack of overt sexuality might be the fact he's about her height and also slight of build. Someone taller and with a slightly more muscular frame might project more sexual aggressiveness.
But that doesn't mean I don't find Apolo to be attractive! :p In fact I think both of them are hot and make a lovely couple.
I'm so glad Clyde got the boot, though. I was watching with my girlfriend and we were both like "Why is he just standing there?" He looked like a statue.
cwilson 04-18-07, 07:36 PM Apolo and Juliane were better. Excellent. The only thing missing from his performance is his lack of sexual passion with Juliane during the dance. She’s got it but he’s almost aloof towards her.
Bogus. The previous week they did a very sexy waltz. You know, any emotion conveyed in these dance routines is the result of the choreography, endless practice, and not passion. I'm sure that on stage, sex is that last thing on their minds. They're going through the steps they've practiced all week and are trying to look good and avoid screwing up. I'm amazed at Apollo. Speed skating is an entirely different animal from anything they're doing on stage. It involves a few simple moves and great speed, strength, and endurance. In his dance numbers he's doing the most complicated moves of anyone and looks like a professional dancer up there. His timing and footwork are amazing.
Of course Julianne is incredibly hot and an amazing dancer, and it's impressive that at 18 she's professional enough to put together such incredible routines.
I think they're going to win it all.

I think they're going to win it all.I agree with your entire post. I predicted that Apolo, along with Ali, Joey and Ian, would be the finalists from day one. I always had high expectations for his performance and he is not surprising me.
He is so talented that he gives the impression of aloofness. I’m not expecting the two of them to have mad love on the ballroom but I was looking for a little more.
And I still said their performance was excellent.

Louis was partnered with Trista Sutter in season 1; that pair was the first to be eliminated that season.
In season 3, he danced with Monique Coleman, who was almost a semifinalist.
What’s with Joey singing along during his Samba? Great song, excellent dance performance but the mouthing of the lyrics during the dance was a bit lame. It was like his boy band days with…what was their name? Lipsynch?
Oh no… Heather is mouthing the lyrics too.
She looked a little bit like Annie Lennox tonight.
I guess that’s the thing tonight – singing along.
Go Cliff (John Ratznberger)! I thought him and Edyta were much better than their score. And Norm was in the crowd.
Lalia kicked ass!
And how about that bimbo Samantha saying to Lalia, “Tina Turner reincarnated.” She’s not dead… and then she blows the scores. What a ditz.
Billy Ray stunk but he’ll probably survive. He’s got a lock on the “git ‘er done” votes.
The brother and sister duo were exceptional as usual. She looked like she was going to eat him alive. The funny thing was, during the rehearsal, Apolo seemed more comfortable with Julianne’s brother than with her. :p
Ian and Cheryl were good, she really carried him, and she’s still the best professional.
It’s going to be a dogfight to the end with Lalia and Apolo with Joey trailing by a nose.
That finale was a real hoot. Ali and Apolo should swap out some of their genes; She was hysterical when she carried him around. :D

Mac The Knife 04-24-07, 02:22 PM Poor Ian. He just can't seem to find the balance between doing proper technique and letting his body move naturally.
OTOH, Laila sure has that hip action thing figured out.
It looks like Johnathon isn't going to let that chest waxing go to waste. I think he'll be bare chested for as long as that waxing lasts.
Since Billy Ray, John and Heather all need to go, I don't really care to much about the order it happens in. Although I think it might be Heather this week since she was asking not to be brought back with that throat cutting motion she made after the scores.

From today's NY POST
http://www.nypost.com/seven/04262007/tv/heather_hops_back_home_tv_farrah_weinstein.htm
April 26, 2007 -- HEATHER Mills may have acted sweetly on Tuesday night's show after getting booted off "Dancing With the Stars" - but reports yesterday say she was upset, angry and ready to flee back to Britain.
After getting voted off the show, the 39-year-old estranged wife of ex-Beatle Paul McCartney cancelled her scheduled appearances on ABC's "The Jimmy Kimmel Show" and "The View" in order to catch the first flight out that night.
Someone or something must have stopped her. Mills decided to stay in Hollywood one more day, doing an interview with "Extra!," taping "Good Morning America" and thanking the cast and crew on Wednesday, then flying back to England last night.
Perhaps it was Mills' custody battle with McCartney over their daughter, Beatrice - who has been flying back and forth from L.A. to London to be with her mom - that caused her to rush out of town.
Kimmel expressed his discontent on Tuesday night's show.
"Normally we have the person who gets eliminated off on our show, but Heather, I guess, just went right back to England," Kimmel said. "She hates America now. So I hope you're happy with yourself."
Then Kimmel ran a clip of Mills' dancing highlights, along with a woodchuck poking against her leg and a spoof of her doing a flip with a faux leg flying off and nailing Miley Cyrus in the face, knocking the teen star's teeth out.
"She was in it to win it," said Sara Nathan, TV editor of The Sun in London, which has been closely following her. "She came over to woo the Americans. Now, she's going off in a huff. She's in a mood."
Mills - who donated her performance fee to an animal-welfare charity - is not giving up television that easily. She is said to be talking about joining the British version of "Dancing With the Stars," called "Strictly Come Dancing."
jacksonian 04-26-07, 10:24 PM I just got around to watching the 4/10 results show where they had Big & Rich with Julianne dancing. Nobody got an HD screen cap of her doing that standing split?

LOL! No woman in the world, especially one as hot as Willa Ford, would add 80 pounds to play a film role. That ain't happening. My guess is 20, tops.
ANS wasn't always so huge, right? So a movie about her would have an actress at varying weights, far easier to do with "fat suits."

Yeah, that's a good point. Otherwise, they'd have to film all her scenes as "thin Anna" and then wait for her to scarf down cheeseburgers for a couple of months, then go back in and film the "fat Anna" scenes. :p
I wonder what the actors who have appeared in biocs about Elvis (there've been a zillion of 'em) did under similar circumstances? I'm guessing fat suits and prosthetics, as UK suggests.

DeNiro actually put on weight to play Jake Lamotta and IIRC it was over 80 lbs. And Kilmer put on about 40 lbs to play the Jim Morrison. No fat suits for Bobbie or Val.
And come to think of it, Ell MacPherson (sp?) intentionally put on a bunch of weight for a movie role (can't recall the name of the movie). And IIRC Charlize Theron actually put on weight for _Monster_ instead of using a suit. Although, admittedly nowhere near the 80 lb number that I thought I heard about Willa while channel surfing.
Sometimes these kookie actors get a wild hair up their butts and decide they need to put on the weight "for the sake of the art".

If you never saw it, check it out. ;) :)
Also, Renée Zellweger is a good example. She packed some pounds for that Bridget Jones movie. But I’ll never forget DeNiro in Raging Bull. That was impressive. It worked for the role.
Valerie Bertinelli put on weight to star on Jenny Craig commercials.

nlk10010 05-01-07, 09:36 AM I think Billy Ray could leave now.
Frankly, he's been dancing from the beginning like he's BEGGING to be canned. Apparently, however, the producers/judges have had bigger plans for him.
Hey Samantha, can you trim that top of yours any lower :D
I certainly hope so. I've got to tell you, over the past few weeks she's gotten a LOT better looking, she's actually VERY hot now (although hopelessly insipid). I don't know if it's BECAUSE of the pregnancy or just coincidence, but at least she's great to look at. She's also dressing a heck of a lot more tastefully. Don't know what happened.
The Ali "girl" should win it.nc
I wouldn't argue with that. I thought her Quickstep was tops, finally they did some basic figures very well without an overabundance of the flicks and kicks. Very happy with that. I didn't like her Samba very much (not bad, just not great) but, again, the judges had their own ideas. The only thing is.....do the people who design the wardrobe have it in for her? madpoet 05-01-07, 09:57 AM Eh, I think Joey and Apollo ar eboth better than Layla. I also think the judging has been (as Apollo rightly claimed) fairly inconsistent. It's obvious that they want a Joey/Layla final though.

Ditto that.
They completely overlooked a misstep by Laila that she herself acknowledged (with her facial expression) during the dance. Yet, she still got all 10's.
Then they blistered Joey/Ian/Ono on a minor faux pas in their dance and discounted their score because of it.
I've noticed these inconsistancies for some time (not just this season) and have always wondered if they were intentional (some grand plan to keep certain dancers around) or just that the judges are missing things honestly.
Frankly, he's been dancing from the beginning like he's BEGGING to be canned. Apparently, however, the producers/judges have had bigger plans for him.Billy blows, he’s by far the worst dancer of any season to get this far. Paulina is sitting at home while this Neanderthal is taking up screen time?
“Cliffy” (JR) isn’t too great but he’s light years better than Billy. At least he’s trying hard and is taking this serious.
They should just cut to the chase and get rid of both of them and let the real suspense begin.

I think that they are preventing a run-away contest. Keep it close, and keep it controversial. That keeps the ratings up. The best dancer seldom wins. Apollo and his cutie partner were the cream of the crop last night. But he got beat like a dog for not being special enough. In the mean time Layla stumbled out of the gate and no one even noticed. Joey was a very close second but at least he got noticed and ended up in a 2 way tie for first. Layla is not bad, but is not in the same class as Joey & Apollo.
I've noticed these inconsistancies for some time (not just this season) and have always wondered if they were intentional (some grand plan to keep certain dancers around) or just that the judges are missing things honestly.Absolutely right, it is starting to stink of meddling. They definitely want Ali in at the end.
And don’t count out Ian. Cheryl is so good she can make a crash test dummy look like a winner.

You must not remember the Rapper from a season or two ago. He was the worst of the worst. He didn't even try. But he went about 4 weeks in farther than he should have.

I t was great when Len compared Billy Ray's shoes to Master P's. Master P was the worst as I think he was the only contestant to get 2's and 3's.

Yep, although I didn't think she'd have this much trouble molding Ian into a good dancer. He's a lot more stiff than I figured he'd be...he has trouble with the rhythms too.
IrmoGamecoq 05-01-07, 12:50 PM The judges actually make me scratch my head on several occasions.
One such moment was last night when one of them (Carrie Ann?) said that John Ratzenberger was the best "older" dancer they've ever had.
Hello? J. Peterman made the FINALS in the first season. I'd say he was quite a bit better than J.R. I'd also put George Hamilton above him too. John's better than Jerry Springer though.

I didn't forget that (soul) train wreck. :D Yes Master P was the worst. Did he really last longer that Billy Ray so far? Wow.
But the judges told MP straight up that he sucked. They are praising Billy and acting like he’s ok.

I don't think MP went quite as far, but close. And Billy is at least trying. Sure, he's "like a crazy bear lost in the swamp." But he's at least having fun with it, and working hard. I think he went this far because so many others were bad as well. The model & Miss America didn't seem to even try. Maybe they thought they were too hot to get cut. WRONG!
Billy or maybe Cliffy should go home tonight. Poor Cliffy looked like he ran out of gas last night. But he's another who is putting in a good effort. Points for that.
Remember, Cliffy was another last minute fill in. Sure beats MP.

All of that --“You go girl!” phony crap.
IrmoGamecoq 05-01-07, 01:27 PM I think the Hannah Montana "pink cellphone" vote is what is keeping Billy Ray around.
Who else are they going to vote for on this show? Ono maybe. But Billy Ray has the "in" with that crowd.
Mac The Knife 05-01-07, 02:51 PM Ditto that.

I'll second all of this.
They've really hammered Apolo the last two weeks after he got that perfect score on the Samba. I think the judges are feeling a little guilty for that score because it was really Julianne that earned it, not Apolo. Apolo's performance was really only worth 9's on that dance, but Julianne's 11+ performance pulled it up.
Mac The Knife 05-01-07, 02:58 PM The beautiful Elle MacPherson put on 20 or so pounds for the movie Sirens. If you never saw it, check it out. ;) :)
Also, Renée Zellweger is a good example. She packed some pounds for that Bridget Jones movie. But I’ll never forget DeNiro in Raging Bull. That was impressive. It worked for the role.
I saw Sirens, just couldn't remember the name.
The Bridget Jones Diary example is actually much better than the examples I came up with. It's especially shocking when you look at her in the two BJD movies verses Chicago and realize that the Chicago was filmed in between the two BJD movies.
But, it turns out Arch and the others were correct. Willa's using a fat suit and makeup (I caught part of another show that her getting the makeup applied and showing the fat suit on the hanger).
I think the Hannah Montana "pink cellphone" vote is what is keeping Billy Ray around...Billy Ray has the "in" with that crowd. Are you kidding me? There are long lines at phone booths in all the trailer parks. As long as there are no twisters, those votes will keep on coming. :p :D
Julianne's 11+ performance pulled it up. I'll say.

archiguy 05-01-07, 06:23 PM I've only watched the first dance so far (will catch the rest tomorrow), but I've got to agree with some of the other posters that the judges this week were just whack! Ali's first dance was stiff, unimpressive, and she had a noticable goof at the beginning. And they give her 10's for that? WTF?? And, Len was unmercifully hard on Apolo. In fact, I didn't think they came off the meds until Joey at the end of the first dance routine. Are they just trying to "even things out" by knocking Apolo down a few pegs? Are they trying to make sure at least one girl survives 'till the finals? Usually, I think they're pretty much on target, but this last week - ugh.
I guess there were no twisters last night. :p
The hillbillies were all able to “Git ‘er done.”
Billy Ray survives to bore us for another day.
Billy Ray survives to bore us for another day.He looked like he was certain that he was leaving, and then upset that he wasn't. Barring a huge turnaround in his performance Billy Ray should be gone next week and the real contest begins.
IrmoGamecoq 05-02-07, 08:06 AM It was sad to see JR go in leiu of Billy Ray, but not unexpected. JR just didn't have the fan base (pink cellphones and trailer parks, or some combination thereof) voting for him that Billy Ray does. All things being even (both had the 2 bottom scores by far), Billy Ray's votes were sure to carry him way over.
The bunny hop thing was cute though.

I must have missed it. What dance? DVR, don't fail me now.
IrmoGamecoq 05-02-07, 12:31 PM Julianne apparently had one in her dance. I never noticed it, but when they cut back to her from the judges at one point, she was holding her dress up over her chest. A few cuts later, she apparently had tied it around her neck and wasn't holding it anymore.
humdinger70 05-02-07, 12:38 PM I think they're getting a little goofy with the results show. I mean, "DanceCenter" (with Jerry Rice, Kenny Mayne and Len Goodman)? A blatant SportsCenter ripoff - and not really that funny.
The Jimmy Kimmel segment? Heck, the featured dance was the cha-cha and didn't even show the steps? The bed/dreaming sequence was funny (Jimmy dreaming about Cheryl, Karina and Kim repeating "cha, cha, cha" :D ; the studio guard dreaming about... Jerry Springer, Ian Zering and John Ratzenberger! ; and Tom Bergeron in the same bed). What a hang-dog expression on Tom after that bit!
And the music talent was... Meatloaf? Man they're scraping the bottom of the barrel! I mean the shows are averaging about 18 million viewers and they've already gone thru all the top level talent who want to do this show?
What's next, Brittney Spears? (Yes, she did a show in San Diego last night, at the House of Blues - made all the local news coverage).
IrmoGamecoq 05-02-07, 12:46 PM I'll be honest, I don't think I've ever watched an entire results show of DWTS. As long as I can remember, we have always skipped/FF to the end. Last night, we tuned in around 945pm and caught all that silly filler with Jimmy Kimmel, and we now see what we're "missing."
Julianne apparently had one in her dance. I never noticed it, but when they cut back to her from the judges at one point, she was holding her dress up over her chest. A few cuts later, she apparently had tied it around her neck and wasn't holding it anymore.Right....It was no big deal. When they finished their dance they went over to Tom and the judges’ area. At that point it was obvious that the top of her outfit had fallen in front of her. She still had a top on but it was very sheer. She realized that it was hanging in front of her so she grabbed it and held it up over her chest. When the camera cut to Tom she tried to tie it around her neck but she still had to hold it up with her hands over her chest. It wasn’t fixed properly until she went off camera to go backstage for the Sam banter.

Yeah, the front of the dress was several layers thick. When she did the move where she falls backward and Apolo catches her neck, then when he pulled he back up he pulled the top layers lose and only the sheer bottom layer was left.
Mac The Knife 05-02-07, 03:16 PM Laila's encore dance last night reminded me that I'll always associate that song with the movie _Brazil_.
I kept waiting for some black clad commandos to drop down from the ceiling, toss canvas bags over them, clamp a shackel around their necks and drag them off.

Who oughta' be out? Billy RayI agree and personally pick Joey to win. Apolo is great but Joey is still better.
Billy will be booted. He had better be. If Ian gets the ax than I’ll abandon the show. Billy should not have scored as high as he did. It’s a joke.
I think they’re going to do everything possible to keep Ali alive
Billy Ray is DWTS's Sanjaya.

The number was part of the costume; that's what they do in "real" ballroom dance competitions - the man wears a big number on his back so as to easily identify the competitors.
I agree that Bruno lost it for a second, but "crap" is kinda' what Billy Ray's routine was. ;) At any rate, while I'm sure Bruno is lamenting his choice of words, I thought Billy Ray "did protesteth too much". He seemed more like a petulant child when he should have just laughed it off, or come up with a clever comeback (probably beyond his wit-level, though). I felt like he lost a lot of likeability with that attitude and was squirming in my seat a bit. And that was the only factor keeping him in thusfar.
And the fawning over Mohammed Ali was a bit much. Tom calling it a seminal moment on the show or something? Pul-eeeze. You knew there was going to be no criticism of Layla last night, even if she had a Billy Ray caliber routine.

Yep. "Pot calling the kettle black." Whoa, what a come-back. How exactly is Bruno "crap."
I'm ready for Billy Ray to go (past ready actually) but I'm scared of his Hanna-Montana pink-cellphone vote. Ian should be worried, even though BR shouldn't have been anywhere NEAR Ian's scores (I think they actually shared some 7's, which is absolutely assinine).
And the fawning over Mohammed Ali was a bit much. Tom calling it a seminal moment on the show or something? Pul-eeeze. You knew there was going to be no criticism of Layla last night, even if she had a Billy Ray caliber routine.
Yep, I agree over the fawning. And, why was MA relegated down to the end of the line? He looked like an outcast within his own family. I'm assuming he and Laila's mother are not together anymore, which would explain why they were on opposite sides of the row, but someone should've been sitting next to him. As it was, he looked like a bench warmer on a basketball team.
As for Laila, at least they didn't unjustly award her with super-high scores like last week. She was clearly not as good as Joey and Ohno, but she was better than Ian.
Speaking of, Ohno's routine was not flawless (he stumbled on the end pose), yet he still got solid 10's across the board. Again, I don't understand the judge's inconsistancy.
IrmoGamecoq 05-08-07, 09:42 AM Also, was that Nia Peebles shown in the audience during Cheryl and Ian's routine?
http://imdb.com/name/nm0001604/
Sure, looked like her. Man, I was in love with her when she was in that 80's surfing movie "North Shore." Wonder if she is maybe related to Cheryl?
I do hate how they constantly show famous people in the audience but don't ever tell who they are. Most of them are has-beens so it's hard to recognize them.
madpoet 05-08-07, 10:04 AM Nia Peoples was best in "Fame" :) THen she had that dance show on Saturdays for a while.
What was the significance of the # 128 on Joey's back during his dance last night? That’s how many pounds he’s lost since day 1 :D …no… not really..actually what Archie said. But I have to say, Joey looks like he lost a ton.

You knew there was going to be no criticism of Layla last night, even if she had a Billy Ray caliber routine.M Ali, for various reasons, always gets more reverential treatment than anyone I could think of. He couldn’t score more points with the world if he walked on water while whistling Ave Maria juggling molten lava rocks.
He's ok in my book but I never understood this cult like adoration, (for the record, I was always in the Joe Frazier camp  ). That said, the show was trying to duplicate the same “magic moment” that they had with Jerry Springer and his daughter but I thought both moments were bizarre.

I have to agree.
I'm not going to knock him when he's down but I never admired Ali for his actions when he was boxing and haven't changed my view now. For many, of course, he represented a way to get back at the establishment and the fact that he was one of the best boxers who ever stepped in the ring didn't hurt. As much as I rooted for Frazier I had to grudgingly admit that Ali was a shade better.
As for Laila, I STILL think her ballroom routines are up there with Joey and Apolo. Very good control. Latin's another ball game, however. If the judges are going to be including "flash" in their ratings she stands no chance. Joey is just too good a showman and Apolo too lithe.
=NLK=
nashvillecat 05-08-07, 12:27 PM I really have to critisize these judges. Can we make it a little more obvious who they like notwithstanding the actual dances that are danced here? I personally didn't think layla's dancing was "terific" or "outstabnding" at all the past few weeks. But these judges, they always give layla "top" points. I'm sick to death of BR and his patronizing.
Why not give more credit to Appolo and his partner? No, they are too young and won't be aropund for the final. And, heck, they critizise Joey more than anyone. (BTW, how bout that outfit his partner had on? Low enough in the front there?).
Maybe it's me, but I get the feeling "the fix is in". Regardless of how the fans vote, the judges wull give it their all to persuade opion in their favour.
I think it will come wn to Layla dn Joey...I've thought this for a long time now. But it will be these two because a. Joey is the best dancer, and b. layla is the most popular.
nc
P.S. Bring it on, Bruno!
tonybradley 05-08-07, 12:42 PM I can't honestly say who is a better dancer between Apollo and Joey. I don't really watch them. I watch Apollo's partner (Is her name Jullieanne or Julliette or something), then rewind, and watch again, over and over. I think she's the most adorable girl I've ever seen in my life. When she was in the Leopard print outfit a few weeks ago, which was the first time I watched the show, I knew I had to watch each week from then on out. My wife saved that episode as she knows I like her dance moves...LOL.

archiguy 05-08-07, 04:34 PM Cheryl’s dancing last night was extremely provocative. She was glowing with sex appeal. Once again she carried her partner.
I don't know if I can agree with that last bit, Larry. I was very impressed with Apolo last night. Seemed to us that he was every bit the equal to Joey, at least for this one night.
I don't know if I can agree with that last bit, Larry. .Which part? That Cheryl “carried” Ian?
I like Ian but it appeared to me like he wasn’t doing too much last night.

Oh, oops, my bad. I thought we were still talking about Julianne, and Apolo; should have paid closer attention. :o I agree with you about Cheryl carrying Ian; he just doesn't seem to get the whole "smoothness and grace" part.
Random musings:
BR was a baby last night ... but I'll tune in tonight just to see if anything is said about the whole thing.
Apollo is great ... but... is it just me, or do all his dances look the same?
Ian reminds me of an athlete who is ALMOST good ... too bad he can't relax his jaw/face - makes it look like he's in pain during the whole dance.
Leila is much better now than in the beginning ... she's got a great future in whatever she chooses to do.
Joey, imho, has it all ... style/fun/"musicality" ... not many comments on his partner, even though she's great. Why? Maybe because Joey does his fair share in the routines.
madpoet 05-08-07, 07:39 PM Apparently Billy Ray stormed out of the studio after yesterday's show :)
archiguy 05-09-07, 12:15 AM Apparently Billy Ray stormed out of the studio after yesterday's show :)
Gads, what a baby. I guess I never had any respect for him before...well, I never gave him much thought before, but geez...doesn't he get what this show's about? Somebody that thin-skinned, you'd think they'd have discerned that in the audition/interview process during casting.
Clyde was another one who really couldn't take it and got a bit petulant. And Jerry Rice, too; he made me cringe on occasion. But nothing like this....
humdinger70 05-09-07, 02:34 AM You can stop whining about Billy Ray, 'cause he's outta here! He was in the bottom two with YIKES! Joey and Kym! The surprises began with Ian and Cheryl knowing they were saved to do next week's semi-finals.
BR wanted an 8, he got it finally...he was booted off in week 8!
Don't bet on Ian and Cheryl making the finals (Cheryl's chances for a three-peat are looking pretty slim).
IrmoGamecoq 05-09-07, 08:34 AM Justice was served. Past due, in fact. Bye bye Billy Ray. You and Master P should record a whiney album together.
<<Also very surprised to see Joey in the bottom 2. WTH?
Well we’re down to the final four, as I predicted. :)
No great Nostradamous moment, :o pretty obvious to most from the get go.
I think the scoring by the judges next week is going to be more absurd than before. Regardless of how good Joey will be they will skim a few points off. And no matter how many slight miss-steps that Apolo or Ali make—they will be overlooked.
They want an Ohno vs. Ali match-up.
I feel, as of right now, Joey has been the best with Ohno in a close second and Ali in a long shot third with Ian a nose behind her. I would love to see Apolo and Julianne win but my bet is on Joey. We shall see how it unfolds in their final performances.
Gmichael2 05-09-07, 10:11 AM Joey goes home next week. He has no chance.
IrmoGamecoq 05-09-07, 10:12 AM I could understand Ali, but why would they prefer Ohno over Joey? An aversion to another "boy band" member winning like Drew Lachey?
I could see them shooting for a female winner since they haven't had one since the first season, but I'm not sure I follow why Ohno is a better finalist than Joey. Unless possibly he stands a better chance of losing and allowing Ali to win.

I agree with every word. Damn. ;)
Joey goes home next week. He has no chance.
Yep. He's the best "pure" ballroom dancer and should win, but after Emmett Smith "winning" over the far superior Mario Lopez last season, and the sillyness that had the transcendent Stacy Kiebler finishing third the season before, it's really not possible to view this show as any kind of serious competition. Like Larry says, they want an Ali/Ono final and that's what they'll get. If there's any justice, Apolo will win that "bout", but I doubt it. Ali has the name recognition, and the judges have been going easy on her all season.
I could understand Ali, but why would they prefer Ohno over Joey? An aversion to another "boy band" member winning like Drew Lachey?
.
Yes, I think it is the “Boy Band” factor for one. It would appear pretty lame to have two BB dudes win in a row. Also, the demographics are slightly better for ABC- having a young Ohno and the younger Julianne should boost that prime age group. Unless Ali really throws a knock out punch she will not (should not) win.
Gmichael2 05-09-07, 10:24 AM Why doesn't anyone talk about Joey's partner? IMHO she's as hot as Julli.
I agree with every word. Damn. ;) The universe is askew.
Don’t worry; ;) I’m sure I’ll be like splinters under your finger nails sooner or later. :D
Why doesn't anyone talk about Joey's partner? IMHO she's as hot as Julli.
I think it's because Joey does a lot of the dancing moves himself, and there's less focus on the antics of his partner ... Joey seldom just stands there catching her, like some of the others tend to do.
archiguy 05-09-07, 10:33 AM Why doesn't anyone talk about Joey's partner? IMHO she's as hot as Julli.
Hotter, way hotter. Juli is super cute, but still has that little girl look. I don't think I could design a more perfectly proportioned female body than Kim if I were, you know, God. She is the absolute cream of the crop, IMHO (and, it's a pretty good crop on this show). ;)
IrmoGamecoq 05-09-07, 10:39 AM Yes, I think it is the “Boy Band” factor for one. It would appear pretty lame to have two BB dudes win in a row.
Well, not in "in a row" actually. Remember, Emmitt won last year.
I think they're trying to engineer an Ali win, but her scores Monday night were not obviously skewed the way they were a week before.
IrmoGamecoq 05-09-07, 10:40 AM Agree on Kym. She's hotness.
I love that Aussie accent too, makes me think of Olivia Newton John back when she was a hottie.
IrmoGamecoq 05-09-07, 10:42 AM Btw, I just remembered that I haven't really agreed on a winner since this show began (J Peterman should've won the 1st, Stacy should've won the 2nd, and Mario should've won the 3rd), so if they somehow screw Joey or Ohno out of this season, they'll at least be consistant.
Gmichael2 05-09-07, 10:56 AM Consistantly wrong? If it weren't for the hot babes in tiny outfits, I'd never watch this show again. But they do have steamy, hot, sexy women.
And controversy. Nice formula.
Well, not in "in a row" actually. Remember, Emmitt won last year.. Doh! ;)
nashvillecat 05-09-07, 11:55 AM   Do you think that Ian is worse than Billy Ray???
NO ONE is worse than Billy ray. But Ian is not that good, even if he dances with Cheryl.
I still contend that it will come down to Joey and layla -- Joey is the best dancer, and layla is the most popular.

Mac The Knife 05-09-07, 03:22 PM I've gotta admit I kept hoping Ian would have an epiphany and figure out how to look natural and loose while hitting the steps, but he seems to be a lost cause at this point.
I think the shocker from last night is that Joey apparently doesn't have a big enough fan base to win this thing (since his fans couldn't even keep him ahead of Ian). So even if the judges give Joey the best score next week, he might not even make the finals. And since the judges really seem to want an Ali/Ono final, Joey's prospects look rather dim.
Billy Ray was long past due in receiving his walking papers. There were much better contestants booted before him. He seemed to acknowledge that last night, but there are rumors now that he will be using these lyrics in his next song:
Well I heard Tonioli talk about me
Well, I heard ole Bruno put me down
Well, I hope Bruno Tonioli will remember
A Southern man don't need him around anyhow

One of the great things about this show is that the women pros have a fairly wide variety of body types and looks, so there's something for everybody.
Kym has the best "classic" body type, but I tend to prefer petite women so I prefer Katrina's body, Julliane being a bit top heavy for my tastes, Cheryl being a bit too stocky and Edyta being a bit too lanky. But this is all just personal preference. They all have great bodies.
But, when you factor in the faces, I'll take Cheyl's "girl next door" look every time over Julliane's Cinderella look, Kym's classic beauty and over Edyta & Katrina's exotic looks.

Billy Ray was on Kimmel's show last night and he said that Katrina was on an episode of Hanny Montana and he said she was "a natural actress". Perhaps he was just being polite, but DWTS does seem to be launching the careers of some of these dancers, so it wouldn't surprize me to see Julliane get some acting offers.

She can star in a film for me anytime. And she doesn't even have to be a good actress.

I really like Kym.
Juli is a close second.
Then Cheryl.
The others are just hot bodies to me. Nothing special above the neck.
But, when you factor in the faces, I'll take Cheyl's "girl next door" look...I'm not sure where you grew up but there has never been a girl next door to me that looked like Cheryl.

Has anyone else noticed a fair amount of low frequency hum during the broadcasts? And they seem to have the LF pumped with an EQ or somethign in general. My sub is going crazy during every show and it drives my dogs nuts.

I noticed what sounded like a 60Hz hum on a show, but I can't remember which show it was now.
At first I thought I had somehow picked up a ground loop hum even though I hadn't changed any connections lately. After a couple of tests I knew it was the show.
Anyway, I think it was some other show, not DWTS, because I've been much happier with the audio this season. I'll listen closer next monday.
IrmoGamecoq 05-11-07, 02:55 PM With the history of this season's myriad camera/video gaffs, I wouldn't be surprised if they screwed up the audio at some point too.

Yes, but I think that's by design. It's a low level hum that oscillates a little. It seems to be designed to add to the suspense. But It can be distracting. My cat leaves the room whenever the show comes on.
The pressure builds up in my room like crazy.

Yes, a lot like that.
humdinger70 05-14-07, 03:54 PM Weekly Monday BUMP...
Four couples left - two performance shows left. Does Ian survive another week (giving Cheryl a chance at a three-peat)? Or is it finally time for Mister "Phony Smile" to make his expected exit?
Will Joey & Kym be in the bottom two again?
Will Len finally finish off Bruno?
Will Carrie Ann finally wise up? ("I'm tired of Stuff and FHM! I'm going for the big time - Penthouse! Hustler!") :D
Chills! Thrills! More Tom B. silly double-entendres!
is it finally time for Mister "Phony Smile" to make his expected exit?We should leave politics out of this. Oh wait you meant a contestant. Never mind.

SowegaBowler 05-14-07, 07:46 PM If Apolo and Julianne pull off some more good moves like they have the last several weeks, look for them to be a serious contender for the trophy next week.

Yep, they've surprised me at how good they've gotten. He should be in the finals along with Joey, but based on last week, it's looking like it will be Layla and Apolo, with the best dancer left out.... again. Shades of Stacy Kiebler. Hey, it's DWTS!
madpoet 05-14-07, 09:07 PM Wait a minute... Layla got straight 10s? The fix is SOOO obviously in. She was not good.
madpoet 05-14-07, 09:21 PM I'm blushing after that dance from Apollo! WOWSERS!
Wait a minute... Layla got straight 10s? The fix is SOOO obviously in. She was not good.
And 3 more 10s for Leila...
madpoet 05-15-07, 08:33 AM Yeah... look, I know at this point in the competition they usually grade them all pretty much the same so that it really is the audience vote that counts, but last night was just a sham.
IrmoGamecoq 05-15-07, 08:42 AM Wait a minute... Layla got straight 10s? The fix is SOOO obviously in. She was not good.
Yep, what a joke. There is no way she was better than (or even on par with) Ohno.
Joey's six 10's were legitimate though.
archiguy 05-15-07, 09:21 AM Agree. Layla's getting preferential treatment, presumably because of a) her father's fan base, and b) because ABC would prefer a male/female finale rather than two guys like last time. Ian will go tonight (bye Cheryl; <sniff>). I hate to see it, but there's probably nothing Joey can do to make the finals. I actually called and voted for him last night (3 times!); first time I've ever done that. Noticed they cut off the phone lines pretty early, too.
Are you hearing it before you hit the bong or after?
Never touched the stuff, so I guess you would say before. ;)
I noticed it again this week. Often it seems almost like the mike is brushing against things and causing some LF info since they seem to really pump it up in general.
I Agree this week the judgeing is a little suspect. They bunched them up too much and gave out too many 10s for performances that were not perfect.
Gmichael2 05-15-07, 09:55 AM It was really a great night though. All of them did very well. But Julie and Apollo were out of this world hot. Joey was great with his jumps & flips. Ian was much better. Funny as h.ll with the King look. Layla wasn't as good as Apollo or Joey but was still pretty good. Her fan base and inconsistent judging will keep her in for the finals. Hopefully Ian goes tonight instead of Joey or Apollo.
Can't wait to watch it again tonight, in slow-mo...... :D
