One week and counting to new season! :D
I absolutely cannot wait until next Monday!

It would be interesting to see how well this new crop of celebrity hoofers (especially Marlee Matlin, hearing impairment and all) do out of the gate next week.

Time to get your preseason predictions in.

I'm going with Kristie and Cristian as my preflop pick to make the finals.

And Shannon Elizabeth as the first to get cut. I think the 90210 fans actually hate her and will therefore vote against her regardless of how good or bad she is. She's also the closest we have to a "supermodel" this season so she'll be facing the pretty girl backlash effect too.

Kristie and Jason Taylor, if he's more Emmit Smith than Jerry Rice.

Why would 90210 fans want to diss Shannon?

Time to get your preseason predictions in..I’ll give you the final four and my winning pick (as usual ;) ) after I see all of them complete their first dance. Any picks prior to that are just crystal ball guesses.

Regardless, (whether you already made a pick) everyone should chime in and give their picks after everyone dances once.

I was wondering that too.

Looking forward to some Shannon Elizabeth screencaps from Mac though...she's about the only celebrity I can recall who might rival the dancers, at least when she was in her prime.

Sorry, I had a short circuit in my brain that miswired Shannon Elizabeth and Shannon Doherty. :o

But I'm sticking to my "supermodel" factor prediction. I think she'll be the first to go.

I forgot who’s on the show  so I reposted SowegaBowler's original post.

In winning order :D my final four blind "preseason picks" are…
1-Kristi Yamaguchi
2-Mario
3-Marissa Jaret Winokur
4-Cristian de la Fuente

Taking time out from playing cheerleader for Carly Smithson :) on the Idol thread...

LL3HD: thanks for reminding everyone of the pairings as we get close to Monday's opener. I myself forgot parts of the lineup...;)

I will sit on the sidelines and not make a prediction as to who will win this sixth cycle until I have seen a week or two of the performances. Even so, I think there may be a few strong contenders among this 12-pack:

Given the recent domination of this show by athletes, I would not bet against Kristi, Monica or Jason.

Marissa may surprise here, given her stage background. Cristian may do the same, given he is Latino and has Cheryl for his partner.

Adam may go far here, if only because he is partnered with Julianne. OTOH, I agree with Mac in that Shannon may be booted early, continuing the "supermodel curse."

And, as I have previously mentioned, it would be interesting to see how Marlee does here, given her deafness.

Shannon to take the win (can't pick Kristi because everyone else is)

First to go? Adam Carolla unless everyone just votes for Julianne, which is very possible.

I do agree it makes more sense to vote after we see them once (as said before, otherwise it's just guessing).

But, what the heck.....my bookie gave me Penn first to leave, Marissa wins. If I lose he (my bookie) promises not to break my legs because I need them to dance....he'll do "something else" (ouch).

I've been reduced to hoping that the "vote for the worst" crowd will keep Julianne in it for at least a couple of weeks.

After seeing some of the teasers of Adam in rehearsals, I'm convinced that if you looked in a phrase book for "phoning it in", it would have Adam's photo next to it. :(

I think I read somewhere (probably here) that Julianne has already complained about Adam's work ethic, or lack thereof. That's a pretty good recipe for failure on this show.

And Marlee has powerful hearing aids in each ear; if she can pick up on the bass frequencies from the music, and they consistently choose music for her with a heavy bass line, she should be able to "feel" the music and do all right.

Kristi - being a figure skater, still very active in her sport, gives her a big advantage. Also have to root for her since I used to live in Raleigh, where her husband is a defenseman for the Carolina Hurricanes (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/team/app?page=PlayerDetail&playerId=8456547&service=page&tab=prf). Probably the only husband/wife to have a Stanley Cup and Olympic Gold medal.

After watching their first dance, my opinion on the dudes…

The only guys who could make it to the finals, in order, are…
Jason- the one to beat
Mario- has to kill the curse of Sabrina
Cristian- tough to fill the shoes of fellow South American Helio

It looks like they spruced up the production of the show a bit. The opening had a finer look to it.

Hopefully good PQ/AQ on the first night of the new season. Looked good to me.

my65ffrcobra
03-18-08, 03:40 AM
Well I thought the AQ was fine but the PQ looked pretty crappy almost SD ish in both the OTA and Dish broadcast, what did everyone else think? I thought the PQ was much better last year.

So bummed we won't be seeing much of Ms Huft she is pretty darn hot.

IrmoGamecoq
03-18-08, 09:04 AM
Yeah, the PQ suffered on my end. Lots of pixelization on the opening dance sequence. Maybe it was a local thing.

Random notes:

Adam Corolla is hilarious. And, he was surprisingly better than I thought. I thought he was better than Penn but he got lower scores. Oh well.

Penn wasn't as funny as he thought he was, but he was still pretty entertaining. Like Adam, he's not as bad a dancer as some of the worst the show has seen (Master P, Kenny Mayne, etc).

Cristian has the most potential. He's got a lot of innate rhythm, kind of like Emmitt a few seasons ago. He has a great partner too, so I expect to see him do extremely well. It doesn't hurt that he will score EXTREMELY high with the show's main voting demographic (women 25 and up).

03-18-08, 09:13 AM
Well my PQ and AQ were terrible last night. I think it was bad weather in Tulsa and they were running the weather bug on the SD broadcast and it was somehow interferiing with the HD channel (which didn't have the bug)

Anyway, I'm excited for tonight.

FWIW - Pricila looks worse than I thought she'd look. Poor gal. I wonder if she'll dance to some Elvis?

Yes, yes she does. Her face is really rough up-close. I guess that's the result of too much or bad plastic surgery.

Shannon Elizabeth looks good, but not as good as I was expecting and so far she's displaying an unattractive personality. I was also a little surprised at how tall and attractive Monica Seles is. She's really turned into a nice looking woman.

None of the gentlemen really stood out IMO last night, but we still have a long way to go. Even so, two of them (Cristian and Mario) looked like they have a lot of potential, and Jason and Steve also showed some flashes of brilliance.

Penn, for a dancer, is a darned good showman. The same for Adam, whose demeanor to me was a bit of a turn-off ("no three-peat for you, Julianne").

Going into ladies' night tonight, I still think Monica and Kristi have the most potential, but something in the air makes me want to pull for Marlee...;)

Not a local thing. The opening dance definately suffered from all the strobes and the MTV style frenetic jump cuts every half second.

The rest of the night was pretty much the same as the previous HD season. Since I've been looking through these for screen caps I think I have a fairly good handle on the PQ. OTOH, my local isn't full bit-rate. So if your local used to be full bit-rate and isn't any more than you might have lost some PQ.

Random notes:

Adam Corolla is hilarious. And, he was surprisingly better than I thought. I thought he was better than Penn but he got lower scores. Oh well.
...

I think the judges deducted some points for being a slacker. IMHO, they did the same thing to Josie last season and knocked her down a couple of points for not trying. Adam surprized me too. If he actually put some effort into this he could legitimately beat Penn and Steve and a couple of the women too.

Yeah I think I made a decent pick on Cristian. But he needs to quit throwing those karate chops with his free hand, improve his posture and his transitions. I think I'm a little behind right now with Mario holding the best hand.

Jason has a lot of potential, but he reminds me of Ian Ziering. He hits all the moves but he looks like he's thinking everything through rather than just letting go. I guess he forgot to breath last night from the way he took a big gasp of breath when he got in front of the judges. I think Jason's problem are harder to correct than Mario or Cristians' so he has the worst hand of the top three right now. But he has a chance to draw a gut-shot straight and have the nuts at the end.

I think my best pick is still Kristie and I feel even better about it after last night since I didn't factor in how cute of a couple that Mark and Kristie make.

I suspect that one of the reasons, if not the primary reason, he took this gig is that he'll get into excellent shape for training camp in a "cross-training" kind of way. We've seen how much weight some of the women competitors have been able to lose. I wouldn't be surprised if the Dolphin's brain trust did not encourage him to do it; surely they knew about it. And he's a veteran defensive player who has seen it all by now anyway.

Usually they have a designated 60+ "old guy" like John Ratsenberger or Wayne Newton to serve as cannon fodder; this season they have a designated "old lady", who refuses to look like one (such a shame - she looks pretty freaky after all those face lifts; she was such a beautiful woman and should have allowed herself to age gracefully). Unless they're Len Goodman, there's no way the designated fogies can keep up. It's kind of silly to keep doing it.

The three stars of the night: Priscilla, Kristi and Marlee. I was especially surprised by how Marlee almost nailed her cha-cha.

OTOH, I was not quite as impressed by Shannon and Monica.

Modding out by the sympathy vote, I was really surprised by Marlee's cha-cha. I thought it was the best of any of the cha-chas, male or female. Her locks really looked good, and she threw in some leg straightening, like she had done this before. I tend to focus on one or two technical details so I can't speak to the "performance" aspect but I really thought she got robbed, especially in comparison to the 21 year old (Mario?, sorry forgot his name) who the judges lauded. But being dismayed by the "judging" is nothing new.

Yes, Priscilla surprised, Shannon surprised and delighted (oy, those legs) especially since she appeared to be the sacrificial model. Marissa wasn't too good but she made wifey and me laugh she was so happy to just be there.

Yes, Kristi's smooth dance was really, really good. However, this may or may not carry over to the rhythm/latin stuff, it's a different ball game. She may be too introverted to give the judges the "performance" they want. As well, this show seems to weigh rhythm/latin more heavily than smooth/standard. I think we'll need to see how they do in the alternate style before making definitive pronouncements. It just seems (unless Kristi nails her rhythm dance) that there's no clear front-runner, yet. Traditionally, the worm turns many times on this show, depending on what vision the producers have for it.

Monica and Adam/Penn had the poorest performances, but we have no way of knowing what their call-in support will be like. Many an awful dancer ("Master P", anyone?) has hung around way past their expiration date.

Kristi was good as advertised even though they tried to play it out like she was strugglin during practice. Wonder if her hips will move thru the latin dances.

Not wavering, just analyzing where my hand is at. I'm still happy with Cristian right now and I'm willing to hold this hand for a couple of more weeks.

Interestingly, it looks like the men's side is deeper again this season, with three closely matched men at the top. And yet again the women's side seems rather shallow with Kristie on top and a rather large skill gap between her and the other women.

The three stars of the night: Priscilla, Kristi and Marlee. I was especially surprised by how Marlee almost nailed her cha-cha.
.

Yes, Marlee and Priscilla were a nice surprize. The new pro Fabian did a respectable job. My only complaint was that he finished off in shadow position so Marlee's foot move was out of sync since she couldn't hear the music and she couldn't see Fabian due to the position. And with that being the last move of the dance it left a bad impression.

If Fabian's going put Marlee in shadow position then he needs to ignore the beat and sync with her. Being off beat doesn't look as bad as being out of sync in that situation.

OTOH, I was not quite as impressed by Shannon and Monica.

Going for an understatement award eh?

Monica was surprizingly ungraceful. I think her poor performance might have saved Shannon's bacon for this round.

Since they are eliminating both a man and a woman next week, I'm going to muck my preseason pick of Shannon and say it'll be Monica and Penn (no good rational for Penn, I'm just hoping that it's anyone but Adam so that Julianne sticks around a while longer).

I generally wait a day or two after the dances before posting pics so that everyone can get their comments in without a bunch of pics interfering with the conversation. And the comments tend to die off before the weekend, so posting pics on the weekend keeps the thread bumped up.

However, sometimes I notice interesting things while searching for pics that I missed in real-time and this set is so good I just can't wait.

So here is little montage that I call...

LL3HD, Lol!!!

Shannon Elizabeth definitely stays on the fringes of true celebrity. I saw her in two shows last year:

The first was the ad-lib comedy show "Thank God You're Here!" She was definitely out of her element and just kissing everbody for laughs. Then I caught the end of some Poker contest where SE made it to the final table and she was so close to winning against the pro. But she had one big, bad hand and she lost all her confidence after that.

Random notes:

Shannon has some very nice legs, but she just doesn't do it for me in the face department anymore. She did dance surprisingly well though.

Monica Seles was a shock at how ungraceful and particularly how unconfident she was. She's also way taller than I had ever imagined. Poor girl, really feel sorry for her and I now really hate that that whacko ended her brilliant pro career so soon (I'm a tennis junkie, btw). Maybe she'll get some sympathy votes? Also, there is NO way her performance was as bad as Adam and/or Penn's was...I don't care what the judges said.

Kristi is this year's Apollo Ono...the skating thing, the asian heritage, and she "gets it" right from the get go.

Priscilla's unnatural face is the stuff of nightmares, but she was very very good.

Marlee was also surprisingly good, and there is just something about her that is extremely attractive. There must be, she's cranked out 4 kids according to her interview last night.

Just for fun, ranking the current crop of male professionals on training skill from worst to best:

Tony - The self-proclaimed "bad boy of dancing" couldn't win this thing with Stacy Keibler as his partner (didn't even finish 2nd IIRC), 'nuff said.

Derek Hough - Overrated and seems to be in this solely on the strength of his sister, who is much much more talented.

Johnathon Roberts - Got farthest in the competition solely on likability factor with Marie Osmond. There's something smarmy about his constant cloying smiles, and I get the feeling his marriage to Trebunskaya is a sham.

Louis Van Amstel - Like Priscilla Presley, there is just something disturbing about the looks of this guy. He's been an also-ran in the competition though, never really contending.

Fabian - A little early to judge as this is his first season, but I like what he was able to do with Marlee this week. Enough so to rank him 2nd best on this list.

Mark Balas - A young guy like Derek, but unlike Derek, he seems to be gifted at training and choreography. Somehow missed the boat with Sabrina last year, but looks like a finalist with Yamaguchi this season.

Poor Tony: and he was so looking forward to another dating opportunity. How ironic.

I think Derek is actually pretty good and I was stunned to learn that Louie was world Latin champion three times????? That doesn't buy him much on DWTS, apparently (big surprise) but I will look at him in a new light.

Also, did you ever notice that all the pros are Latin/rhythm competitors? Wonder if there's a reason (Nick Kossovich is the only one I can recall who was non-L/R).

This may be slightly OT, but I thought it was hilarious.

During his "Tonight Show" monologue last night, Jay Leno, commenting on Heather Mills (remember her?) receiving $50 million as part of her divorce from Paul McCartney, quipped: "She has the treasure and the wooden leg. All she needs now are the eye patch and the parrot.":D

Yea, even I liked Nick, but he was only on briefly.

The only male dancers that I've not disliked are the ones that for the most part keep their mouths shut and put their partners first and foremost all the time. That's pretty much only that Alec guy that won with Kelly Monaco, Mark Ballas and that Fabian guy so far.

The only possible exception to that is Maksim, who is just a pretty funny character in general so he's grown on me.

Some that I have an extreme aversion to:

Johnathon Roberts
Louis Van Amstel
Tony

Derek actually won a youth title whereas Julianne's only win was an 'up and coming star' award. But there's so much politics involved in ballroom competitions that I really don't put much stock in not having a bunch of wins. All the finalists in those competitions are so good that it seems the choice of winners is more due to current popularity rather than being significantly better than the other couples. I just know I'd rather watch Julianne dance than Derek. :D

AFA training ability is concerned, I think this is one of those cases where the best performer usually doesn't make the best teacher. This was certainly true for my engineering professors. In general, the professors who were really brilliant had trouble explaining the material to students that were having trouble getting it. But professors (actually usually their grad student aides) who had struggled with the material themselves were usually better at explaining it since they knew where you were getting hung up.

This is even more important on DWTS where the pro has to tone down their performance so that they don't overshadow the celeb. And, IMHO this is why Cheryl (who doesn't have any titles) is more successful on DWTS than Karina with her three world titles. Karina does well when she's with a natural, like the two Marios, but Cheryl does better with less.

AFA Nick is concerned, I remember he did a exhibition dance last season but I can't remember him competing. Was he on the first season?

BTW. Someone asked what happened to Maks. All I've heard is that he got a couple of choreography gigs. I don't know if that was why he left DWTS.

I actually turned the show off before Mario's dance, so I don't even know how he did.

There were some good dancers (Shannon, Kristi, Marlee), but the only thing really noteworthy was how bad Monica is. The judges really went easy on her because it's painfully obvious that she's struggling.

My thoughts exactly all the way around.

There was a commercial break after every single dance! That's why I finally had enough and once I got my DVR to where we were "live" we just skipped the final dance...we just figured Mario would be "good" anyway.

Last night did nothing to change the paradigm, Kristi is still the odds-on favorite by a country mile. It ain't even close, people. Jason looked better this week. And poor Monica had another rough week, she may be a great athlete (or was, certainly), but she's got absolutely no sense of rhythm. Marlee continues to amaze and should be one of the finalists. I just like Adam and his self-depreciating style; hope he sticks around. Mario is okay, but his hip-hop roots, and the bad habits they've ingrained, will prevent him from becoming a top-flight ballroom dancer. And Penn just needs to go home tonight; his shtick has already worn out its welcome. The good news is that Shannon is better than we thought and will be sticking around for awhile, hopefully. Finally - revenge of the babe(s)!

03-25-08, 11:56 AM
The issues that people have (Shannon's tongue, Marissa over-enthusiasm) is probably why they decided to let the stars do two dances. Everyone's nervous the first time out there when it's all for real - some more than others - and the judges comments help pull some of the contestants "back to earth". Not fair to eliminate after just one dance just because your excitement level caused you to miss steps (nobody's perfect!).

But anyway, I think the first eliminations will be:
Ladies - Monica
Men - Adam or Penn (the one that stays will probably get the boot the following week)

I wouldn't take that bet as both of them have a better "base" to work with there, but as others have noted, they are probably more careful about their use of sunblock than Monica was.

Also, Monica was more of a tennis player than Anna K ever could have hoped to be (and probably Maria too - we'll see on that one) so I'm sure she was more focused on her game than anything else.

I'll second that. Although I suspect it was Marlee's handicap that caused the new format. They did a similar twist to make sure that Heather Mills didn't get tossed the first week too.

That being said, I prefer this new format where everybody gets a chance to dance both a Standard and a Rhythm dance. I felt that the old system was very unfair to the celebs to have Waltzes getting compared to ChaChas. And I think it slightly lessens the ego crush to have two people leave at the same time rather than being singled out as the "first to go". Although doing 12 dances in one night is a bit long. They should probably trim it down to 10 people to start with or really cut all the extras out of the first two weeks.

I'm sticking with Penn as my choice to leave for the men (how dare you even hint that Adam and thus Julianne be the first to go  ;) ).

I already mucked my Shannon pick last week and switched to Monica. I think I'll stick with Monica for tonight. I really didn't see that one coming at all. Who would have thought that a championship tennis pro would have so little body control?

Finally, I have my answer.

Priscilla Presley is 62. She dances like she's 32. She married Elvis Presley when she was almost 22. And her face…Well, that number is still subject to interpretation.

And now that the former First Lady of rock and roll is back in the spotlight thanks to her participation in Dancing with the Stars, suspicion has been piqued with regard to how Presley acquired her anachronistically fresh-faced look.

But while hi-def TV forgives nothing, at least "obviously reconstructed" (a look she also sported during an appearance on American Idol a year ago) wasn't what she was aiming for.

TMZ was the first to report this week that, in 2003, Presley was one of the high-profile victims of an Argentine plastic surgeon who, peddling a substance he claimed was more effective than Botox, conned women of a certain age into injections of a low-grade silicone better suited to auto assembly lines than laugh and frown lines.

IrmoGamecoq
03-26-08, 08:46 AM
^ That's scary.

I just figured it was Botox and she had a treatment done right before her first appearance (jitters about appearing on National TV, I'm sure). It appeared that the effects had worn off some by Monday's episode because her face actually seemed to move occasionally when she was talking.

FWIW, I didn't watch any of last night's eps but I see here that Monica and Penn were let go. Rightly so, to me. Now, we'll see how long Adam's charm can keep him in the game. He has a (supposedly decent) movie being released so I'm sure he's going to lay it on thick as long as he can get the free promotion.

Thought I'd do a little montage of Cheryl to cover the weight issue.

I think her arms looked a little heavier last season. But it's a pretty close thing; just a few pounds one way or the other.

BTW can you see this host Irma? I'm trying to find a more reliable host that you can see.

Here's Cheryl in the season that she won with Drew.

Kristie was pushing a lot of my buttons this week so here's a couple of Kristie (I have a thing for petitte women with glossy black hair and a thing for 1940's hair styles and I really liked the upturned hem on the skirt showing off the boldy colored and patterned linig because it reminds me of kimonos where the outer level is rather plain and then each inner level is more colorful and bolder.)

After watching two hours of American Idol, I started watching the DWTS results show. With your ears sensitized to bad singing, those Jonas Brothers sounded horrible - really pitchy and whiny to me.

Julianne saved Adam Corolla, but Kym couldn't do the same for Penn. Monica was looking good last night, but it was too little, too late.

My wife and I thought the same about the Jonas Brothers. I even called in my teenage son to ask what the big deal was with them.

I'm sure, without even looking it up, that they're part of the Disney empire. That group looked like they were specifically manufactured to appeal to the Hanna Montana set. One of the more blatant examples of "corporate synergy across platforms" we've seen. Even Tom seemed faintly disgusted by it. Thank goodness for DVR's.

Penn's gone! Yea! Sorry to lose Kym and her best-of-show cleavage, but I'd had it with him. And poor Monica; wish she could have stayed, but she was the appropriate girl to get booted.

I don't hate Disney (Too? Where did that come from?). What I do hate is such blatant cross-promotion with a clearly manufactured boy band that really doesn't fit the demographic of the show. It was crass and obvious.

... that really doesn't fit the demographic of the show. ....

They seem to do this a lot. Macy Gray, Avril Lavigne and a lot of other bands that really didn't match the demo.

But the oddest match-ups I think I've ever seen were on PBS last night. They ran a show about the old Johnny Cash variety show that was on in the late 60's early 70's and wow talk about a bunch of non-country acts. It opened with Bob Dylan then Johnny singing a duet with Joni Mitchell. Later on Johnny and Carl Perkins joined Derek and the Dominoes on stage. James Taylor was about as close as they got to a country-western act.

Shannon was a lot more subtle with the tongue this week. She didn't do any of the stick out the tongue and wag the head around act. But she's hasn't broken the habit completely. I did have to cheat a little on this set. In one case she's licking her lips before starting a sentence.

My observations:

Julianne is just phoning it in at this point. Her facial expressions during last week's dance showed that she's just goofing along with Carolla with no expectation of getting very far.

What's with Kristi's eyes. They seem to operate independently of each other. The cap of her above, and there was a group shot in the back room a few posts back illustrate my point.

That being said, there is no contest this season. Kristi will win unless some freak of voting puts her out.

(SPOILER ALERT: I know that quite a few who post on this thread live west of the Rockies and probably have not seen tonight's show; if you live out West and do not want to be spoiled, feel free to ignore this post.)

The three stars tonight: Marlee (she started off the night with a wonderful jive!), Jason (very good tango) and Cristian (he an Cheryl are doing well as a team).

Shannon continues to surprise me; her jive was truly impeccable. Priscilla did a good, but not great, tango.

Kristi's tango was not that impressive, but I still think she will stay for at least another week. Mario's routine was, to say the least, boring. Marissa was not quite technically proficient, but as another poster said previously, she looked just happy to be there.

Adam? He may be improving as a hoofer, but his mouth still annoys me. If mouths could run marathons, Adam's would easily win the gold.:D

Hence my last sentence...I do remember last season.

It took me a while to get Adam's joke about learning the Tango from a Mormon. That was pretty funny. He was right about J's outfit. It looked like a carpet remnant!

juancmjr
04-01-08, 01:19 AM
Jason (very good tango)

I think you mean jive. Jason did good IMO, not so bad as Len made it seem. Edyta can wear those outfits!

Venturing a guess that Marissa will be the next to leave because of her jive. It wasn't energetic. I think it was Carrie Ann who said it was a safe performance. Just eh...

Did anyone else get the idea that Cheryl and Cristian's visit to the sea lion was indirectly tied to the commercial for Nim's Island? Sea lion in the movie and the show? The stars themselves can't plug anything but the show does. As I saw in another post, cross corporation synergy advertising. Disney/ABC.

Julianne may have looked different with the wig, but for me it still worked. Wow... She still makes me go da doing doing doiiiing! Adam's comments were humorous to say the least.

Adam originally said his motivation for appearing on the show was to promote his movie. He could be gone tomorrow, but I think he may around a couple more weeks.

From my perspective...

Marissa is in trouble, she just didn't do enough.

Jason and Mario kind of blew it tonight, not up to what we saw previously.

Priscilla is this season's Marie Osmond. Good enough to make it to the finals? Wait and see.

Steve did good, despite the fact that he practiced mostly with Jonathan and not Anna (because she was so sick)

Shannon - like the way the "fur" flied. Did she remember to keep her tongue in tonight?

and finally....

Adam  Adam  Adam . I think he's decided - enough with the horsing around, let's dance!

Thanks to MtK I can't watch Shannon dance. I only look for tongue. I saw it at least once during the dance.

Adam had me rolling. His shtick last night was hilarious. Poor Julian didn't have a clue what to say, poor kid. And I thought Samantha was going to start snorting and having snot bubbles come out of her nose she was laughing so hard.

Kristie looked great. I missed Jason (tucking kid into bed). Honestly, I thought everyone else did a nice job. Except the hog. She's gotta go.

As many have said, it’s not really a dance competition but actually a popularity contest....

So, who do you think had the least amount of fans voting for them last night? With the voting history on this show, nothing will surprise me.

I think the worst two dancers are Steve and Marissa.

The first, a guy who was in the trifle and forgettable flick, Three Men and a Baby… and the second, a heffer who looks like she's never eaten anything trifle and is about to give birth to three babies.:p:D

Whatever sunny entertainment Marissa brought to the table, it has been eclipsed by her mammoth annoyance factor. Keep the Kleenex on hand tonight, there’s going to be a breach in her damn and the tears will be gushing.

Kristi and Jason are a lock for one and two. ;)

...And I think Adam will survive a lot longer than anyone would’ve ever imagined. This is because of--1) Julianne 2) his humor and 3) his wacky fan base. They seem like the demographic that would actually vote.

I have to agree with Adam's comments about Julianne's costumes. Definately not helping their cause. In fact the costume style seems different and more tame this season. I wonder if they changed costumers?

I know that last season they used a guy that lives in Scottsdale AZ. But I don't know who they're using this season.

I also expected Adam's "mormon" comment to include "19 year-old virgin" but he didn't go that far.

Anyway, my pick of Christian making the finals is looking better slightly better this week. I think I improved from one pair to two pair, but I'm still a little scared that either Jason or Mario hit a full house. I sure wish Cheryl would work on Christian's free arm. Those karate chops and claw arms haven't improved at all.

No spoilers now that the results show has aired on the west coast.

Marissa looks like this year's Master P - fan base bigger than her talent.

I'm surprised nobody said "April Fool!" for the down-time things the stars do when they're not dancing. I could believe that Jason could work on tiny ships - but Marlee as a volunteer cop, Kristi into competitive eating, Christian with a pet otter, Steve a rapper??? Oy!!

But the best bit had to be the MAN-go with Steve and Jonathan! :D That was a hoot! Give Len kudos for suggesting that as the special dance to see again (and to Steve and Jonathan for being crazy enough to do it!)

Could that open the door for same-gender couples in later seasons?

But too little, too late for Steve and Anna - they're gone.

Ron Temple

Personally, I think it's rigged. There's no way that Marissa has enough fan base to have knocked anyone out of the running. The dancing challenges her, she's totally annoying and Broadway divas don't have the Q rating of even has-been film actors.

What bugged me about Marissa is this. During the introductions in the first episode she was saying how she would change people's views on short chubby women, that she could prove she could dance and that it was possible with women of similar body style to do what has been accomplished by taller, slimmer people. To see her cry about her poor performance and Shannon's legs and I can't do that blah blah blah, makes her bold statements empty and meaningless. She's overly bubbly for my taste. At least Sabrina had some dancing talent and didn't whine about being knocked out early, shocking as it was.

This started with a discussion on the Howard Stern Show last week.

Howard speculated that Julianne was wearing conservo costumes this year because she was creeped out dancing with Adam.

Adam assured Howard that she wears scanty stuff all the time in rehearsal, and to wait until Monday to see what she was wearing. Turns out Monday's costume was the most conservo of all.

I think Adam has pretty much sealed his fate after that unicycle stunt. Well, if you're going to leave, might as well go out with a bang!

I think the others (who have been lower scoring) have been hit upside the head enough by the judges (especially by Len) to get the point... Stop the shenanigans and get busy dancing during your practice time. The results definitely showed last night.

It's clear the the the chaff (Penn, Monica, Steve) is gone and these people, when they really put effort into it, can dance well. It's going to be a fun ride to the end!

Boy, did they ever. We were floored by those comments and scores. Jayson is passable, but he's no Emmitt in terms of even the best football player/dancer. I think the judges are starstruck or something. If they're angling for Dolphin tickets, they should know they're not that hard to come by. :p

And Derrick showed no ill effects after being carried out of practice by paramedics (that whole thing look staged to me).

I doubt it was staged. Face it, injuries happen. For once, it happened to the pro partner, not the celebrity.

Did you make a lot of complaints last season when Marie Osmond and Jane Seymour had issues (both needed hospitalization, both lost a parent)?

Please, get a grip.

I don't care how bad a dancer Adam is, he's got to stay...the guy's hilarious. Zorro on a unicycle took more talent than I thought he had. I hope the audience keeps him around to the end, thumbing their noses at the judges.

I actually think there's not that much distance between any of the "real" contestants. All the performances were excellent, except for Mario's. His looked choppy and forced.

Are you kidding? I'm not the one between us who needs to grip something. We saw the injury happen on film! He just twisted his neck, fercryinoutloud. It's happened to me dozens of times since I was about 18 and I never needed a stretcher or paramedics. Pul-eeeze. If he had really popped a disk or done something serious he wouldn't have been back in action so soon showing no stiffness, swelling, grimacing, or other ill effects. I stand by my statement; that deal was staged for the cameras.

Show over on west coast, so OK to talk.

As expected, Adam was voted off. He had a lot of fun, and I was surprised they asked him and Julianne to do the encore performance. I would have thought Cheryl and Christian or Jason and Edyta or maybe even Toni and Marissa.

He lasted a bit longer than most would have thought. I liked his message at the end of the show. Take a chance, find what scares you and tackle it!

I have my DVR set to record tonight's Kimmel show (12:35 AM tonight due to extended Nightline - aha! Nightline gets its revenge for being pre-empted for Kimmel's 1000th show).

I liked the youngsters dancing, they were great! The future of ballroom dance looks terrific.

Marissa's and Marlee's personalities are continuing to grow on me, and they continue to supplement them with their routines; their sambas were two of the best dances of the night. (I did not catch the saying on Marlee and Fabian's T-shirts during their rehearsal sequence; it looks like they are now calling themselves "Team Hooey" or something similar.)

Mario, Kristi and Jason also did well. Shannon to me is beginning to slip a bit.

Priscilla's rumba did not do much for me. She will be gone tomorrow; bank on it.

Shannon looks nice in these outfits. What's the deal with Derrick? Neck, food - kid has issues. I find it hilarious all the other 'stars' get close to their partners after the dance but she snuggles up with Tom.

Pricilla was boring.

Others were fine. The show was a bit of a let down this week to me.

Ain't gonna happen. The pity vote is only going to last so long, and she just ain't very good.

And that teeth-gnashing smile of her just drives me nuts.

Agreed that Shannon has looked great, but man, that girl is really in need of some cardio work. She is extremely winded at the end of her dances. She's improving though, as she at least was able to stand up afterwards last night.

.... Shannon to me is beginning to slip a bit.

....

My take on this is that she didn't slip, she just isn't any good at the latin dances because she can't figure out the leg action. But her calm upper body and good posture makes her a decent smooth dancer.

So she looked good last week in the smooth dance, but looked bad this week in the latin. I think she'll look good again next week. But if next week is the quick-step, Tom better have an oxygen tank ready at the end of the dance. :D

Anyway, none of the Rumbas worked for me last night. None of them had any sexual tension. I thought the Rumba was going to be right in the middle of my guy, Cristian's, wheelhouse. Since he's is a soap actor, I thought he would be able to come up with some seductive looks. But he completely struck out.

I also felt that Kristi kept dropping out of character and that ruined it for me.

I actually considered Mario's Samba to be the best looking dance last night even though he made some technical errors. I wish the judges would have complemented him for calming down a little bit last night so that he didn't look so frantic. They've been beating him up for all his dances looking the same and this was the first time he broke out of that rut.

Marlee is growing on me. Those hip rolls were not bad.

Jason trying those upside down splits like Edyta... too funny.

Is it me or does anyone else think that Marissa or Tubs :D was recruited from a Disney Store? Anyone who has been to one of those will know what I'm talking about. I think she did a good samba but since it was her... not very hot.

Have to agree. But it's hard to argue that she had an amazing body for a 62 year old - my wife commented that from the neck down she looked 30 years younger. For the life of me, I can't understand why some older women (and some men: Wayne Newton, Kenny Rogers) try to look 30 years younger. Its so fake, so artificial, and in the end, so unattractive. And it says something unpleasant about ones sense of self worth as well. Just IMHO of course...

3) week of May 4/5...Marlee

leaving Kristi (sp?) the winner... (4th season in a row a sports celebrity wins, first female sports celeb winner - and first female winner since season 1!!)

I'd pretty much agree with that order. Although I think Shannon is a bit of a wild card. I think she'll be safe next week with a smooth dance but the week after that she'll have to do another latin dance and that might be her undoing.

If Marissa or Marlee goes next week and my guy Cristian manages to survive, then I think Shannon might get the boot in the following week.

BTW. Speaking of bodies that look much younger than they actually are, I'd like to nominate Marlee for having the most improved body this season. Although she was a little bit thinner 20 years ago in Children of a Lesser God IMO, she actually has better muscle tone today than she had back then.

(SPOILER ALERT: I am typing this just minutes after the show finished airing in SW Georgia. West Coasters who do not want to be spoiled can ignore this post.)

The three best dancers tonight in my view:

Marissa: Her Viennese waltz was so fluid I could drink it. ;) She also got some extra Brownie points from me for having a lot of fun during the group country routine. (BTW, while the group dance wasn't bad, it wasn't stellar either.)

Kristi: What a lively jive she did! She should at least make top 4, if not be in the finale.

Cristian: Did a lovely foxtrot. I also see him lasting at least a couple more weeks.

Marlee's mambo, while admirable, was not quite her best; even so, I still gave her a few votes.

Talk about product placement: Mario was depicted talking to his younger brother on a cell phone from AT&T-which happens to be a sponsor of the show. (Has he also been texting with Beth Ann? :D)

I am putting my money on Shannon to be sent packing tomorrow night. There was nothing much to her rumba. (It is still a surprise to see her last as long as she did.)

That’s the understatement of the season. She began the season as the favorite to win it all and that hasn’t changed.

I thought it was a signal stutter/glitch that I get every once in a while on other channels but then I realized what happened with the crowd reaction to the comment.

I'll admit Marissa is getting better . Her Viennese waltz was very good. Agreed that Shannon could be the next to go, possibly Marlee. Glad to hear that Julianne will be back for another pro group routine :D:D.

Kristi kicks too much ass. De facto winner, unless the audience pulls a Sabrina... but I doubt it.

Great....

I fudge on Cristian being the next eliminated and he does a dazzling foxtrot.

And in other ways that fouled up my order of elimination, I think Shannon has hit her plateau and may leave soon, but it looks like Marlee did an awful job with the mambo (and with a mambo champion as partner to boot!) and unless a big tide of votes come in, she's out.

Also, is it possible Jason is reaching his limits?

I hate to say it, because she's just so darn pretty and plucky, but Marlee will probably be going home tonight. Did she not look fabulous in that outfit? She gets the seasonal DWTS award for best body transformation during the contest. Four kids, people! (But in fairness, she had fabulous raw material to work with. Not so poor Marissa who seems incapable of peeling off the pounds.)

It might have been a spontaneous event in earlier seasons (in both shows) but now it’s bad television.
