View Full Version : lucky number s7even
I saw this in theaters thought it was pretty good but some what predtctible.
I found the dvd onsale at the local target for 15.99 so I picked it up, haven't had a chance to watch it on disc yet. Prehaps tommorow..
Just got done watching this dvd...
Excellent video...and audio ain't bad either.
Terrific Tarantino-inspired crime noir.
MUCH better than the recent pretender: Kiss Miss Bang Bong.
Smarter plotting and sharper dialogue by far...edge of my seat the entire time.
There is an alternative ending, but I don't think it adds much.
Great interior sets BTW...I want to hire these guys to do the decor in my house...very, very cool visually!
Just saw it too, I agree cool movie, and good looking discs[sound too].
I see no reason to compare it to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, that was much more light hearted.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, that was much more light hearted.
That is true.

I bought it sight unseen based on the idea the dialogue would border on "Snatch" quality.

just finished this excellent work of art, very good stuff. has elements of pulp fiction & kill bill.
for every Cave there is The descent
for every kiss kiss poop poop there is a Lucky number slevin
edit: just realized another element borrowed from another great film...Leon.

Saw this last night. I liked it. It was different than what I expected. The plot was fairly solid, with no holes that I could detect. The scene at the end was a little bit of a stretch for my tastes and I didn't find it necessary. The chemistry between Liu's character and Slevin brought a little a lightness to the film, but did border on being overdone imo. Nonetheless, an entertaining flick and although (as mentioned earlier) it was a bit predictable (in the sense of the 'big picture') the plot was unique enough to keep you guessing along the ride.

Saw it over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. Might end it having it in the purchased category sometime soon...

Some of the ads/posters featured a "7" in the word "Slevin." (inconsistently, though)

This was everything that Brick wasn't...which is a great thing. :)

Wow so Morgan Freeman was in two S7ven movies....and they even mentioned S7ven (1995) in the movie!
(Keanu Reeves) Woahhhhh
Brick was superior....The pin with his cane was priceless and being driven around in his van with a lamp!

This may be the single most ridiculous statement in the history of the human language.
Thanks for the laugh. :D

Agreed, I tried to get through Brick TWICE to no avail, pure snooze fest. The Pin in his van was totally the best scene and that isn't saying much.
I watched both Sleven and Brick last night. I actually liked both, but Sleven was better. Brick seemed to be more juvenile, and I'm talking about the writing not the age of the actors.
Very impressed with Sleven. I loved the way they explained things at just the right moment. Like explaining his lack of anxiety, or my favorite was why they killed a certain character who wasn't a bad person. The twist there occurred right as I asked my wife why did they do that?
Nice to see Lucy Liu play someone a bit more upbeat.
Anyway, other than Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang, both these movies have been about the only decent films I've seen recently.

Sleven was a pleasant suprise. I actually liked Josh Hartnett's performance, and Lucy Liu was a gem to watch. Sir Ben Kingsley and the whole Jewish persona was clever. I could see the curve coming a mile away, considering the baseball and all. ;) No pun intended, or was it a fast ball. :P
I most noticed the varying styles of apartments in the movie, very decorative.

I saw this last night and enjoyed it. Even though it wasn't hard to figure out who Slevin was, how it played out was well done. The PQ on this was interesting. Close ups were very good, but a lot of everything else seem to have some sort of filtering. A fair amount of ringing was present. I also liked the parking lot a the race track. There were some nice cars parked there.

:) I bought Slevin on SD and really enjoyed it
If I had one complaint against this movie it would be that it didn't release on HD-DVD on day one and now I'll likely end up picking up a HD copy sometime down the road (if and when it appears). Really hope some of these larger "hollywood" titles start to simultaneously release on both SD and HD :D

Finally got a chance to see this one. It was quite good. At first I thought it was going off the rails because of the way the main character was reacting to the situation.. Then of course in the end it becomes obvious why. And of course Lucy Lui is just a little bundle of joy. I quite like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang as well. I think that they are very different films that just happen to explore a similar genre. And of course Michelle Monoghan is a little bundle of joy as well. Some of the locations in this one were heavily stylized, which could be off putting to some. It's a bit of a visual acid trip in some ways.

I though Slevin was incredibly weak. The dialog was forgettable, the story was both uninteresting and pointless. While the acting wasn't bad, it wasnt good enough to save a lousy script.
Of course I didnt care for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang either: stylized, comic-book-like, non-realistic movies do nothing for me.
I liked more then kiss kiss bang bang, already forgot what that was about

I thought that was the coolest aspect to this movie. :)

Then you must really hate Tarantino.

Not to mention The Matrix or any super-hero type movie, or every other non-realistic, stylized movie out there, which is a really large percentage of them.

I guess I am pointing the finger more at the following weak titles:
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Lucky Number Slevin
Sky Captain and the Search for Tomorrow
I love Spider Man 1 and 2, Batman Returns, V for Vendetta, etc: movies with compelling stories and realistic acting :D

This should be in the dictionary as an example of the definition of irony.
