2 parents with powers, that would be a bunch of crap if he doesn't have any. Knowing how smart he is I wouldn't be surprisded if he already knows how to use them already or even mastered them. Only time will tell.

Was the picture quality utter crap for anyone else tonight?
Looked like they cut the bandwidth in half or just did a crappy upconvert of the SD version. Lots of blocking and blurry motion scenes. Worse I've ever seen

not really, only Niki almost getting killed by DL when he found out she had the money all this time, the father not finding Claire's real parents, & Hiro's doubt of his powers. Were these parts after that scene?

Is that confirmed? The only thing that was confirm was that NBC has ordered a full season. 22 or 24 episodes. But the ratings are good enough that this show is no where near the bubble come May sweeps when the usual announcments are made and bubbles are burst for lower rated shows.

No, it doesn't. It started in ****ing 5 minutes. So I missed the end on my recording. I think. What is NBC's problem? They can't do anything right. They are the worst network for anything. Somebody buy this show and "Earl" and take them to another network for safety.

My DVR cut out right there too...right around 60 minutes...Eden had just told Isaac her name and it stopped recording and I wasn't fast enough to goto the live feed...by the time I got to it, it was already on the preview...does anyone know when we can watch it on NBC.com? Well, normally for me it wouldn't be a problem, Studio 60 starts right after Heroes but that crappy Friday Night Lights was on tonight. Sounds like there wasn't too much to miss.

I thought tonight had a bit more filler, and exposing things we already knew/suspected, which I guess is OK. What I'm really waiting to see is what pulls all these disparate people together. Is there some sort of Siren call?

I said the same thing, there was to much filler, still a good episode. It reavealed a few things but we have already known them or figured it out already. They are saving the big battles till sweeps which is upon us now. In my view the series gets much better for the last three episodes then the holiday season break. BOOOOOO!!!

Father not as evil as originally thought. I think someone mentioned this a while back that he is the professor on the Xmen, just trying to help people with their powers but is looking for the more powerful ones for use as a team of his own. Hence the plant that was there trying to convince surresh to complete his daddies work, He is looking to catch Sylar also. Because Sylar is a menace that need to be stopped and with that brain thing he might be able to control people totally so they would join him, not the little parlor trick he did ont the lady cop. Just a few ideas for what will happen during the sweeps. Just pure speculation done with my psychic feelings and enourous eating appetite with no weight gain,
X-files theme of "trust no one" will be a factor. in the remainder of the episodes this year.

Amen. Actually, I've never been able to figure out why people who don't want to know anything about an upcoming show bother coming to a forum where the show is being discussed.

There's been an ongoing "debate" in the Lost thread where some people don't even want anyone to discuss what has been shown in a preview.

To me a spoiler has always been positive information gained in advance of a showing, like "Luke, I am your grandmother's son!" leaked before the actual showing of The Umpire Strikes Out.

Speculation, like this may be so and so isn't necessarily a spoiler.

As for links to other sites containing secret information, I am all for personal responsibility. I'm with Iteki..if you don't want to know, don't click.

It shouldn't be that difficult to understand why people would want to discuss a show without having upcoming plot points spoiled...

Claire's [biological] Father seems to be Sylar, at least that's the implication I'm getting (and her adoptive Father is trying to dissuade her from seeking the truth by introducing false parents.) Maybe Claire's adoptive father is trying to "save" these genetic abnormalities (or manipulating them for some other reason) rather than damn them as has been assumed thus far.... so they're not discovered by Sylar and consumed. He spared the quarterback, after all. Who knows, just a guess.

Overall, this episode was a little on the slow side as far as action goes, but not bad. It will pick up soon (there's always an eye of the storm after a show's intro.... just to pad it while keeping it interesting.)

I don't get why they clearly edited the show for Niki's husband's power to be a dramatic surprise - yet they blew it by showng him come through the wall on the previews.

This gets to the issue raised by petergaryr which I quoted in the previous post. With TV shows and movies you have people who have creative influence over the content, and you have the marketing departments. With rare exceptions, the people with the creative influence have almost no say in how the marketing people advertise it, and the marketing people don't give a crap about what the people with creative influence think. Their job is simple. Get people to watch the show. They are not just trying to get the people who will like the show to watch it, they are not trying to enhance the experience for people who will watch it, they are trying to get as many people to watch as possible. That is their only concern, and they have no qualms about spoiling big surprises to get people to watch.

I know nothing can be done about having people discuss the content of previews, and even though I avoid watching them I still read message boards to hear others thoughts about what has actually aired and share my own feelings. That's the risk I take, being one of those who wants to avoid spoilers. But the content of the previews IS NOT something that is "meant" to be revealed. It's a perfect example: when the show was written and shot, it was meant to be a surprise. The marketing people get a hold that shot and their only thought is, "that might get people to watch, let's use it!". And that's how it ended up in the preview. I'm sure the folks with creative influence on the show were not happy about it, but they probably didn't have any say in it.

The over-spoiled previews do indeed suck the surprise out of the show. Luckily I've learned to turn it off so I can enjoy the next show.

Kind of a slowed down mellow episode this week. I guess I'll trade a DL scene for a Nathan scene but I kind of missed Matt and his headaches. Hopefully they'll develop him further next week.

How cool was that they threw in the Tales From Space comic from Back to the Future in there?

Same Tivo problem on the west coast. I had not padded the end time, but will now. The Tivo stopped just as the girl was introducing herself to Mendez, saying she was a big fan of his. My season pass for Studio 60 would have provided the missing ending, but probably would have failed to get the S60 conclusion. Ah well, I wasn't recording the football series. I'm not alone in that apparently.

Video seemed OK from Sacramento OTA, but I agree that the previews (when they're recorded) are too spoiler-ladened for me to enjoy.

well we can now...but we still need to know what happened after she came to the door...I guess it wasn't much ;)

She introduced herself as a big fan, then they flashed back to Niki laying in the floor, very still, didn't see any movement, they left us with the assumption of her being dead,(at least I think that's what they want us to assume) and Mohinder was narrating as the cameral panned over Niki, his words:

"Evolution is an imperfect and often violent process, morality loses it's meaning, the question of good and evil reduced to one simple choice, survive or perish."

Then they went to the previews, in the previews we saw Micah with the two Japanese dudes while Dad was running towards a burning car, and we also saw the Cop and Clea Duvall, they appeared to be investigating a crime, and Claire's little brother evidently saw Claire do something, because she told him "you can't tell anyone"

Well, no argument there. Networks, and their marking departments, are not in the entertainment business. They are in the business of selling airtime to advertisers. When shows don't attract the right demographic, they are history...regardless of where they are in plot development. They will cancel shows in the middle of a two-parter and never care that audiences are left hanging.

While it doesn't surprise me that the marketing department will want to do anything they can to attact the right type of viewer, I have also seen previews that are purposely misleading. I don't take anything in a preview as "actual" until it actually airs. Up to that point, it is just speculation and often a red herring.

Niki is a bad, bad girl. Seriously, there is absolutely nothing heroic about her alter ego. She just slaughters anyone who gets in the way of her perceived goals. So I assume part of her storyline will be the struggle between her good and evil sides. I want to know what the secret was that the kid told his dad... either I missed it or we were supposed to guess. I go back and forth on Claire's dad... they call him the face of evil, but who knows. I still say he is though since he carries around his pocket psychic and abducts mutants to, at best, wipe them.

I have to say, the girl being a spy caught me completely off guard. Bravo!

DL had figured out that it was a woman who set him up, stole his money, and killed his crew. He had heard that a woman had laundered some money through someone he knew. He was going to go check it out in the morning. She beat him to it (the money launderer and the gambling den guy were one and the same).

I missed that too. Were the gamblers the same people that Niki and her husband went to go see? The gamblers could have been the only people who knew the truth about Niki?

Regarding each week's previews for the next week: I didn't get to see last night's previews because my DVR cut off the last scene and a half just like others here, but I'm assuming they didn't show Niki alive and well in the next episode. Now THAT would have been a major no-no.

By the way, if any of you missed the last scene and a have due to your DVR, I just checked out the last 40 secs. on nbc.com "rewind". Didn't miss much, but it was enough to piss off the wife.

Those were the guys that she laundered the 2 million through that DL was going to use. DL said all he knew was that it was a woman who dropped the dime on him and took his money. He was going to see the gangsters to get a name. She took care of business before DL could get there.

I agree though, the previews ALWAYS spoil things...thats what they are there for...I actually stopped watching previews for Lost and 24 last season and it helps DRAMATICALLY with surprises....however, it always sucks when you turn on the TV 5 minutes before the show and they show that SAME EXACT SPOILER-FILLED advertisement and you get spoiled anyways....I ALWAYS hated that...down with previews, down with them forever....

Never saw Twin Peaks, but I really like this aspect of the show. The only thing I didn't like about last night's episode is that it left out certain main characters. Nathan, Matt and Simone.

I think they did a pretty good job casting this show. I do, however, think they could have gotten a better kid than Noah and the mole chick.

DL and his crew robbed "Linderman" of 2 mil. Evidently DL's crew gets killed(by who, I don't know-Bad Niki? The bodies in the desert?). Bad Niki launders the money and puts in in the attic(why she pulls it out while DL is still in the house is beyond me though).

My questions are, who's Linderman, and how is Nathan tied into him and why was he in Las Vegas to get 2 mil, and is it the same 2 mil that Niki ended up with?

Bill Shakespeare
10-31-06, 10:39 AM
I think Lindeman is gang-connected (old style), running the casino where Niki and Nathan trysted. DL's crew may have been killed before they could steal his money, leaving Niki to do the crime, or she may have stolen it from the crew (missed that) and killed them. Nathan, by coincidence was going to Lindeman (Godfather style) to get campaign funding.

I think I can answer this one - "bad Niki" told "good Niki" to take the money and her kid and bolt, right now - right after telling her that she killed DL's gang as well as the gamblers. Good Niki got the money down from the attic and became Bad Niki just in time to bop DL across the room with the metal briefcase.

It just seems too much of a coincidence that it's the exact same amount of money. It's not a major point, but this part of the story is a little murky, so far anyways. I guess DL and crew intercepted the money before it was to be given to Nathan and that's how the writers tie Nathan to Niki. But they slept together too, so I'm still unsure why the whole money thing.

It just seems that the rest of the characters have well defined reasons and actions, whereas the Niki/DL/Nathan group have this money connection that doesn't seem to tie into the big picture. At least I don't see it yet.

True, they can sometimes be misleading, but more often, as was apparently the case with them showing D.L. coming through a wall, it reveals information that was meant to be a surprise, so that's why some people would like discussion of previews kept to a minimum on message boards. I always try to avoid them when watching them, and I understand the risks of going on a message board to read others thoughts on a show and share my own, but it doesn't hurt to ask others to be courteous of us fickle spoiler haters :D .

1) DL and his crew plan a heist to steal $2 million in mob money. Niki is in on the plan.
2) Bad Niki uses her knowledge of the plan to steal the $$ herself, kill DL's crew and leave evidence framing DL for the crime.
3) Bad Niki launders the $$ with the Gamblers. She puts the $$ in the attic.
4) DL escapes
5) DL learns that a woman set him up and that a woman also laundered $2million with the Gamblers
6) DL visits home, and tells Niki what he's learned.
7) Bad Niki leaves in the middle of the night, kills the money laundering/gambling crew so they can't finger her to DL.

There's no question Bad Niki stole the $$, killed the crew, framed DL, and killed the gamblers/money launderers. She a bad woman.

sorry fellas that is by design. All networks do this. More advertising dollars. We still get 42-45 min per hr show. But they increase the commercial load which gets us to 1-6 minutes over but the the normal finish time. Rates still apply to the show that went over. At least with digital tv, the TV guide lets you know if the show is going over. Unfortunately DVR users get screwed because you set for the full hr of the season and assume you are done. LOST is the biggest culprit of the extend time issue. The networks other logic is,"you already missed 5 min, you might as well stay on this channel"
DVR user just need to check the program guide to see if it runs over, but that just ruins one of the DVR perks.

My questions are, who's Linderman, and how is Nathan tied into him and why was he in Las Vegas to get 2 mil, and is it the same 2 mil that Niki ended up with?
Remember, after Nathan found out that he was taped, he demanded 4 mil for Linderman. 2 mil buys a candiate, 4 mil buys a congressman. He was in Vegas to collect the money, Nikki stole the money months before.

If you get a chance, look at the extra content on the website. In addition to the regular episode, they're telling the story using a variety of media. Yes, I got all that, there just seems to be some missing linkage between DL/Niki/Linderman/Nathan. I guess the whole money thing is simply to link DL, Niki and Nathan together and it's not really important in the grand scheme of things, just as long they're connected up somehow.

Yeah, I thought so, too. Didn't know she'd be working with "evil-dad", though.
We still don't know that he is "evil dad". He is bad ass dad, But nothing leads us to really belive he is working with Sylar. He could be part of a mysterious group that knows about powers people have. He is in search for all the ones that Sylar knew of to protect them from him. The "clean him out" was for the cop to not rmeber his Sylar encounter. The father needs to get all these powers together to fight a bigger evil. If he was that bad he would have killed the kid for raping his Daugther that he loves. Plus that looked like surprise on his face when he heard the save the cheer leader line from "spy" lady on the phone. I think he is trying to stop Sylar also. Now that he knows his daugther is marked, he will do his best to protect her more. She was too needy and friendly not to be a spy. Cmon she found all the research way too interesting to be anybody but a plant to find info. I think most everything will play it's way out in the coming weeks.

I hope not and disagree with that. If everything plays it's way out, we wouldn't have a show. I think there are a lot of people who are waiting for all the questions to be answered so they can watch a lot of Heroes doing superpower things.

To me, this show is much more about a character study than simple people with super-powers.

I'd be surprised if season one ends and everybody understands their own superpowers. Hiro, although he can use his powers, doesn't have them fully under control. Niki is just now figuring out this dual personality thing. The audience is just meeting new characters. Perhaps we're getting an X-Men movie-type roll-out of characters.

I mis-spoke when I said everything, In my mind I was thinking of things that will be played out soon(only about 3 things)but my fingers type "everything" I think 2 main points will be solved by the end of Nov sweeps. The bomb is stopped or postponed to a later date with the Help of Hiro and his trusty companion. It is obvious he runs into DL and brain kid, but after that meeting he contiues to NYC. The cheerleader will be found, by the four of them they save her life but she is promptly taken by her fathers goons. Thus continuing on the superb quilty of the show and not having them all together yet, but also taking care of 2 items that are suppose to happen really soon judging by the way Artisit and Mimic is setting up the pics in comic form. (save the cheer leader and stop bomb)

This is also where Peter gets his scar from the initial battle with Sylar.
It sounds like a good story for me, This is the time of year when the scripts get better or they get a special guest. This show meets the better script criteria, no guest starts are needed.
If this is what happenes, remember me. If it doesn't remeber also, so you can call me on it.

One thing that I noticed that hasn't been mentioned, which may or may not be important...

Isaac saw something on the painting of a woman. He rubbed what appeared to be the back-side of the woman and voila, the Symbol was painted over. That girl must have been Nikki, and Isaac must have seen it in his premonition.

As for the episode, I thought it was a bit slow... Too much on Claire's fake-biological parents stuff...

Mr. Bennet told Eden to "bring in" Isaac. Is it similar to what he did to Matt (and tried to do to Nathan)? Observe their "evolutionary" development and erase their memory of "abduction"?

She's very strong...she likely jumped up and pulled herself up. I'm sure she's just as strong when she's good Niki as bad, she's just never known about her strength? But then again if that were the case she'd likely have noticed by accident (breaking things when all she meant to do was touch them, etc). So forget I said anything. I don't know if anyone noticed this, but Claire's dad has two pair of glasses. One pair has a crack in one lens, the left one, I think. He is wearing these when he is in bad ass mode. When he is in family mode, the lens in his glasses is not cracked. When he was on the phone with Eden, telling her to bring in Isaac, he was wearing the uncracked glasses, but was fiddling with the cracked glasses. He was wearing the cracked glasses when he confronted the QB.

My supposition, and just a guess so no spoiler, is that these are Claire's real parents and he has powers (maybe Mom too) and he pretends she is adopted to protect her. He's going to turn out to be a protector/Dr. Xaiver of these "mutants" to offset Sylar.

Hey, thanks! I totally missed homage.

The Vision often used his ability to alter his density to attack his opponents by sticking his intangible hand in their chests and then rematerializing it, a process he described as "physical disruption." The process caused opponents great pain, and typically resulted in their incapacitation.

you aren't kidding, They have people that watch scene by scene, review every tape, check every prop but mistakes still happen. However, these technologies puts every aspect of a scene under a microscope. There are things people have pointed out that amazes me.

People need to remember that shows aren't filmed as we see them, there are many breaks and many takes. Then they have to put it all together. Little items might be missed. There are things that matter for some shows. But there are shows out there that just have honest mistakes and want you to enjoy it and take it for what it is. A TV show.

I know there's been some talk of each week's previews giving away little too much. Watching 'Lost' I realized that the folks from 'Heroes' should study the way 'Lost' does their previews.

'Lost' always manages to show you something really incredible from next week's show, then when you finally see it in context, it's still incredible but somehow entirely different from what you thought you were seeing in the previews. Most times it's still completely satisfying and because there's usually a twist, it's fresh and new.

I hope I explained that well enough. :)
Heroes, on the other hand, shows you an exciting preview, and generally what you see in the preview is pretty much what you get in the actual show--note that I said 'generally'.

I know I've mentioned to my wife once or twice that the preview they showed for something wasn't what they implied (with the way they show a segment, cut to another, and imply they're related). The one I recall had something to do with Claire's dad and DL and him telling him to do something. I haven't made a good post about my sister in a while...

Anyway, my sister has four young children, and needless to say enjoys her television quality time immensely. She's rather insiteful on these new 'over the top' dramas, almost to the point of scary...here is what she said about heroes...

1) Hiro visited Peter Petrelli in the past because Peter was the only one he could visit without disrupting the continuem. When Hiro froze time, Peter who now shared Hiro's power via close proximity, was uneffected by the time freeze because of it. Notice Hiro has yet to be able to 'project' his power to anyone else like that. The whole world literally stops but him.

2) Peter may be the only hero who can defeat a fully powered up Sylar. Because if Peter was fighting Sylar, he would be able to use Sylars own power against him being an equal match. She thinks that Peter might even be somewhat more powerful than just the power he duplicates, for example: He didn't need to get high to paint.

3) Micah has 'some' power...how is he so aware of whats going on? His mom isn't really telling him that much. He even knows about what she is doing in the garage! He seems to know whats going on more than anyone appears to be telling him and more than what he is actually seeing. Its just very subtle...

Anyway...that was her thoughts on it...figured they were interesting and worth sharing...

that is true, we should be happy when a hit show gives us 22 episodes in this day and age of television. Let alone 24 -25. That is good news, that means there will be a 2 hr season finale. This is the first show in recent memory that has started the season on premiere week and continued straight through november sweeps(11/27 last episode). I wonder how NBC will play out the remaining 14 episodes. I really do not want to wait until next year for a new episode, but if that will limit re-runs and stop them from giving us the one new then 3 repeats problem. I have no problem waiting until late January or Feb 5th. But I haven't seen or heard anything about NBC's plans hopefully they will make us fans happy.

Question: Did Nikki steal money from DL? I ask this because we now know he was framed by a woman(bad Nikki). I thought money was stolen from DL before he was framed. However she just got the money that was in the attic from the guys she murdered at the poker game. Are we suppose to believe there is more money somewhere else? Maybe buried in the grave

She stole the money from the same gangster that the flying guy got money from, and DL worked for. The gambling guy was cleaning it for her and DL found out (told her about it) so bad Niki slipped out and killed everyone.

Very interesting show. many characters! It's starting to get really good with the people meeting up with each other. I just hope this show doesn't burn-out. It's very different, which is good. Stay the course, writers/producers.

So far, the only person who has ever been able to stay in motion when Hiro stopped time has been Peter. I have seen two theories as to why he did: 1. The Hiro that stopped time then was FutureHiro, who has more mastery of his powers, and may be able to let other people in his little time bubble or whatever it is, or 2. Peter was unknowingly mimicing Hiro's power. Either way, there is nothing to suggest that anyone with powers is immune to Hiro's time stopping.

MarkW
11-07-06, 09:22 AM
Actually I believe it is the second possibility. That Peters power is the ability to mimic or assume the powers of those around him. Thus the only flying when brother is around, the precognition with isacc and the time bending with Hiro.

Why is that bad? He is playing the part perfectly, an Emmy performance. He has you hating him like most of us feel about our politicians.

We sure didn't see anything new last night. Cheerleader got her hand stapled and it healed (which was nothing more than a prosthetic hand riged to shoot blood and then ran backwards. Nikki's husband can go through things. Hiro stopped time yet again.

OK, maybe was saw one thing new: Micah can make calls on an out-of-order pay phone. Who didn't see that one coming? Someone on the previous page of this thread (his wife actually) already pointed it out that he knew what his mom was doing in the garage.

At the breakfast table, I kept thinking to myself, "Alright! Something cool needs to happen!", but it never did.

His speech made me crack up because he repeated many of the things we've talked about here. His power allows him to get from point A to B very quickly as well as to observe things going on from a birds eye view. I suppose he can also access areas that others couldn't. But he has no superstrength or combat abilities to use once he gets there. So he sees his power as a disability, making him a freak of science rather than something that can be used for good.

Hopefully once the manure hits the fan he'll prove himself wrong.

Actually, it has to be the first. If future Hiro risked a rift, like he said, to come back just to specifically talk to Peter, why would he do that if he couldn't talk to him. Was he just hoping that Peter would absorb his power "and" use them to unfreeze time so they can talk. At the time this happen, Peter was unsure of his power, he thought it might be just flying, he wasn't sure. He doesn't know he can absorb and use everyone's, it was still developing. Peter also wouldn't suddenly be able to know how to use all of Hiro's powers and enter someone elses time bubble or do whatever, it happens by accident, he doesn't know he has them. That is why he suddenly flew, he didn't know he could fly just by being around Nathan, he only had dreams. He didn't know he could draw the future, it suddenly appeared when he needed it. He doesn't know when has the power. I highly doubt Hiro risked all this to come back on a hope Peter would use it. He can control his power's easily in the future and pull people into his sphere of control. He had to know this otherwise he wouldn't be able to talk to Peter.

Overall, it seemed the episode was a bit slow, but good. And the friggin’ commercials again!

It's clear the Torch guy is a walking nuclear bomb as evidenced by the radiation and his little tirade to the cop and the FBI agent while holding the nurse hostage. "What if I just blew up and took out New York!?!"

Is it me, or was the last time we saw the cop he was in a quick stop holding a gun and passing out due to all the voices? It seemed a little disconnected that when we saw him again he was ok and at home with the wife. Did I miss something?

It does? I thought it was popular opinion that Lost has some very poor visual effects for a major show. As evidenced by the extremely bad parrot from last season. The smoke monster last week was a step up in the Lost FX deparment. So far this season I think Heroes has been superior in FX.

If you listen to his speech again, he says he has tried this numerous times and it didn't work, and that he was risking a rift just by being there.

Obviously things have been tried before, who knows what he/they did try. Plus, regardless if he warns the cheerleader, Sylar is coming after her. If he warned her to stay away, Sylar would just go to her house, or wherever, doesn't matter if he warned her, Sylar was coming for her and going to get her. If she even left the state, wouldn't stop Sylar from hunting her down. They needed someone that could save her, and defeat Sylar, and since they know Peter can absorb powers, he is probably the best candidate for the fight.

They reported somewhere that he absorbs them for a period of time. I think it was a lot to, could of sworn it was like a day, but it might be a few hours. At any rate. As long as he didn't fly around the world for hours, he would be good to go. Better keep an eye on that watch, hate to be flying in the clouds and suddenly your time ran out.

In that Entertainment Weekly article they talk about Hiro and his sword and that the sword becomes a major part of the show. Man, how cool will that be. Can't wait. Since it had a symbol on the sword like on everyone's back (the helix) I wonder if it has its own powers or something. Way cool. Can't wait.

Can you imagine how cool Hiro could actually be in a fight when he can control his powers more and just think them into being. He could stop time, slice you, appear behind you, start time again. Awesome, unstoppable (almost like Nightcrawler in Xmen but way better).

Plus the fact that right now only Peter would be receptive, all the rest with the exception of maybe the cop don't particularly even want the power or aren't concerned with the big picture. The artist was seemingly beginning to get with the program, but he's been abducted and no telling what is going to happen to him.

Which brings us back to the Lindemann painting. I'll need to listen to the dialog again, but if Nathan was thanking Lindemann for sending the painting to a gallery, and the painter has been abducted with all the remaining paintings by the pixie who works with Claire's dad, doesn't that make it likely that Claire's dad has an extensive art collection, including Lindemann's painting? When Nathan flew from his abductors in Las Vegas was that before or after they had drugged him and probed his mind? If he'd been "probed" he may now be working subconciously for Claire's dad as the mindreading cop may be.

Considering that the basis of the 'Heroes' story line is Genetic Abnormalities leading to people w/ supernatural abilities. I don't see how you get a Sword which is an inanimate object w/ no genetic basis to alter, becoming embude w/ powers.

That said, stopping time and using the sword is a definate possibility.

Personally I think Peter's ability is the most inspiring, but potentially the most frustrating. It's not apparent that he's figured out that his ability is to use others abilities in which he's in close proximity to. He still seems to think his ability is to fly, when that's his brothers. Even though he took on Isaac's ability to paint the future, and Hiro's ability to stop time (Hiro stopped time, but Peter was able to move in time when it happened.) The frustration will come in when he can't do the things he 'thinks' are his powers when he needs to and the 'Hero' whom he takes the power isn't around.

Still not sure of the importance of Mohinder's character beyond being an observer, but maybe he's the counter to the Cheerleaders father.

I think it was before he was probed because he was still in his clothes from the hotel room (sleep clothes) and they were taking him out of the van to inside the building.

All the paintings were taken from Isaac's apartment so I guess Claire's dad has them.

Yes, Nathan thanked Lindemann for giving him the painting and to send it right to the gallery. Then he told Peter he couldn't get it. I think it is all just because Nathan doesn't want to embrace what is happening so he thinks if he hides it from Peter it will all go away and Peter will stop.

Spoiler warning - in a future episode they revealed that Nathan really isn't bad as some think he is, and that something will happen that he has to embrace his power and realize he needs to start using it, thus making him a "good" hero.

Funny. But I am not sure that Niki's power is that she has an alter ego. I think that is a by-product of her psyche, and that her super power is super strength. The twist is that she has a multiple personality disorder, and her alter ego is the only one that has figured out how to use it.

One thing not commented on (at least I haven't seen) is that these people's superpowers have all suddenly been turned on recently. Was it the solar eclipse that caused it? Or is that a red herring and coincidental (it seems to be prominent in the opening titles of the show). Why all of a sudden do all of these people have these powers?

And if they have only recently been given these powers, Niki's alter ego was around long before the powers started, if she stole from her husband and set him up way in the past.

This episode really lacked any cool super powers that we haven't seen before.

Radiation man was new.

Yes, I don't think they ever got a chance to probe Nathan before he flew away. Besides, it seems that one of the goals of the probes are to erase any memory of Claire's dad or the probe itself.

Regarding the Lindermann painting, I think it must be more than Nathan thinking it will all go away if Peter doesn't get the painting. Otherwise he wouldn't have called Lindermann in the first place to ask for it. He would have just told Peter he couldn't get it without making any calls.

Actually they are all three sort of transmutive powers. Father able to transform substance for the ability to pass through the object. The son able to transform/manipulate electronic circuits. The mother able to transmute self into another entity - or at least create a Dopple Ganger, but of what after all it has substance.

I agree with this too. I think that some of the heroes don't know how to properly access their powers yet.

Niki is one, Issac is another. Peter needed no heroin when at Issac's place to finish a painting, but Issac says he needs to shoot up. I am pretty sure that Issac doesn't need heroin, but right now he doesn't know how to get to that different plane of consciousness by himself.

I suspect there is one person who can help these heroes harness their powers:
Claire's dad, the Professor X type.

As far as maybe Heidi having powers it is a possibility: As DL and Niki show, heroes are drawn together. It might be in their genetic coding to be attracted to other people with genetic variations.

Hell that other kid who filmed Claire could be a hero: ditto that for Claire's brother, who I believe is her blood brother and that she is not adopted at all.

Three random and unrelated thoughts:

1. At one point Claire's mother mentioned that she has never been sick except one bad cold she got as a kid. This lead me to believe that the mutation is related to this and the "cold" turns it on. I could be way off but it seemed to make sense at the time.

2. Did anyone else get the impression that the friendly neighbor that kissed the Indian scientist guy expected her kiss to kind of make him love her?

3. If Radiation man is the source of the nuclear blast in NYC, the following series of events would make sense to me: Peter saves Claire from Sylar and they go to NYC where they try to stop the blast. Radiation man winds up in NYC (somehow). Sylar goes to radiation man to try to take his power - in one timeline her whacks the guys head and everything goes boom; in another timeline Peter with Claire's power fight Sylar and gets the scar he becomes notorious for later.

Ummmm...yeah, that's what I was pointing out. Are you agreeing or disagreeing?

Maybe for some, but it would appear that the cheerleader has not only known, but used her power for some time based on the ongoing video she's been making. In addition, I think the stripper mom kind of hinted to her friend that she's been seeing her alter-ego for a while. Finally, how long has the artist been painting weird stuff?

The cop, on the other hand, appears to have just recently discovered his powers. Hiro has been experimenting, but only recently successfully used his. I can't tell if the politician knew about his powers for any length of time. He seemed pretty old hat at using them when he rescued his brother.

Why couldn't he have his own unique powers?

Both my parents are skilled at math - they actually met working at a bank. I, on the other hand, have no aptitude for numbers. I can't even remember a phone number for more than 5 minutes.

My entire family wore glasses by the 3rd grade. I didn't need them until junior high.

The rest of my family gets vertigo when they approach any height. I'm fearless in that regard - I've clung to the edges of 100 foot cliffs, dangled from multi-story towers built from logs lashed together with rope (while building said tower) and I've leaned through rooftop railings of 50 story or larger buildings.

Computers, for me, are like a natural extension of my body. For the rest of my family, computers are like an uncomfortable pair of shoes.

I can't name more than 3 TV shows (past or present) that I have in common with members of my family. Movies and music are pretty much the same way.

When I'm on a tour of someplace, I want to know where the locked doors, stairways, chutes, holes and passages go. I try every closed door to see if it opens. My sister wants to read every sign, poster or information sheet but will stay on what she thinks is the correct route. My parents just want to finish the tour and find someplace to sit down.

Everyone in my family drinks soda (like most people do). I've never liked it. Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, etc. I don't touch the stuff. It tastes aweful to me.

I've only been in a hospital once as a patient - when I was born. I'm almost never sick, I've never been seriously injured and I don't have any dangerous allergies. Each of the other members of my family has had at least two emergency room visits.

So, kids can very often display very different traits from their parents or other family members. Besides, we haven't necessarity seen the full extent of the kid's powers. He may yet have some of the cobined skills of both Mom and Dad.

On the note of "cool super powers": Now that the show has been renewed with more episodes ordered and an additional season, has the budget gone up for this show? The special effect on this show have been good, but too few and far between. Lost on ABC has some pretty spectacular and believable special effects. Any chance Heroes will get the same with the newly ordered episodes?

I know NBC is trying to save money.

Actually, the freeze of time was pretty poor on this episode. The flame shifts several times when it is supposedly frozen and there is a major shift of the entire scene when the put him in moving close to the car.

The Vegas freeze in the Casino was much better.

Well, there have been dozens of comics from different companies with similar themes, and Marvel doesn't sue all of them. As a long time X-Men reader, I certainly see similarities between certain powers on Heroes and X-Men, but I seriously don't see anything that could be worthy of a lawsuit. Not to mention Marvel EiC Joe Quesada is a big fan of the show, and Jeph Loeb is a writer at Marvel. If anything, I think the company attempting to get the licsence to do a comic adaptation would be more likely than a lawsuit.

They also said that Isaac doesn't need Heroin, that he was using it as an excuse, which is evident that Peter didn't need to use it.

So if anyone says a person has the power to create flame, Marvel can sue them? The characters in the show are not the same, nor are they really all that close. Claire heals, that is it, no super strength, no claws, no tracking ability, no super senses nothing like Wolvering. So just because she can heal herself means Marvel should sue? The guy that had melted everything, actually, it wasn't fire, its reported that it is a form of radiation. If you really think about it, there are not that many similarities and I don't think Marvel would have a chance in a lawsuit, its generic power. Same as saying anyone that has a show with a cop and a gun can sue another show.

Argh!! I should have been clearer - her adoptive mother said this not the fake one. When say Claire's mother I mean her adoptive one. I would never consider a biological mother (whether fake or not) as someone's real mother - her adoptive parents are are here mom and dad no matter what.

What I was leading to is that I think the trigger for people getting powers is based on a virus. These people probably all got sick and that turned on the mutation. I guess we will see when they finally reveal how this al "really started".

They were saying that it is only on the two people that we know of that HRG's took. They were speculating that as your powers developed the symbol became more and more apparant. This appears to be the beginning of their powers. The cop said his powers are acting up lately, which goes back to what I said before. Because they are implying that since both parents have a genetically-caused super-power, the offspring would, too.

If Micah genetically inherited his power, it should be the power of one or the other parents, or a blend of both.

To say that Micah has a random power, unrelated to his parents' powers, breaks the whole point of him being the offspring of two people with special powers...

OTOH, it is a fantasy TV show, so I'm good with it... :)

He has a dream with the dying old man, who we find out later had recently died. Does his dreaming have any relationship to his ability to actually absorb the powers from others? Or how about his apparent innocence? Most every character has revealed a flaw or dark side in their personality other than Peter. Hiro may be the exception.

To say that Micah has a random power, unrelated to his parents' powers, breaks the whole point of him being the offspring of two people with special powers...

OTOH, it is a fantasy TV show, so I'm good with it... :)

How many offspring superheroes have you studied? Considering this is a 'fiction' show, I don't see where it's hard to believe that because their genes have mutated, that because two blue eyed parents must have a blue eyed child, that the child couldn't have a completely different power. (don't quote me on the blue eyed thing...I can't remember the dominance, etc.). Just tryig to say....it's fiction, I don't think it has to follow the laws of genetics as we know them. Their gentics have mutated, so not sure we can follow our laws.

When did HRG get to the radiation guy?

We don't, but since his symbol is the same, and the cop was abducted, we were leaping to that conculsion that perhaps HRG got to him, that is why it is different.

Because they are implying that since both parents have a genetically-caused super-power, the offspring would, too.

If Micah genetically inherited his power, it should be the power of one or the other parents, or a blend of both.

Nothing has been said that if both your parents are mutants then you have to have a power that is similiar to one of them or a blend. They only said that if they both do then their offspring are likely to have powers. It could be any power, it is just the fact that they will have some kind of power.
