Question: Does anyone think that Peter's dreams will come into play in the story line? On several occasions Peter has dreamed something that is strongly related to reality. He dreams he can fly. He has a dream with the dying old man, who we find out later had recently died. Does his dreaming have any relationship to his ability to actually absorb the powers from others? Or how about his apparent innocence? Most every character has revealed a flaw or dark side in their personality other than Peter. Hiro may be the exception.
No doubt. His power is the least explained so far. Well, not counting the guy spewing radiation. We'll have plenty to explain if he is the central type of character they have made him out to be. Seems he is supposed to organize the heroes.
Steve Scherrer 11-08-06, 03:56 PM We don't, but since his symbol is the same, and the cop was abducted, we were leaping to that conculsion that perhaps HRG got to him, that is why it is different.
And then using that fact to prove that HRG got to him? That's pretty circular logic...
Anyway, about the offspring of superheroes, I think it is pretty clear from the Incredibles that Offspring can have completely different superpowers than their parents. If that isn't definitive, I don't know what would be...

Good example, I had personally been thinking of Franklin Richards, son of the Fantastic Four's Mr. Fantantic and the Invisible Woman. Either way, there are definately undeniable examples of superhero offspring having different powers. If Heroes is bound by any principles of science, it would be comic book precedents.

I think Peter had been spending quite a bit of time with Isaac, so he had his assimilated power for a while (at least half a day, which happened before when he dreamed of himself flying).
I don't know about the conversation between the old/dead patient and Peter yet. Maybe Isaac's power includes some kind of remote projection...

pappy97 11-08-06, 05:48 PM I dont think so, Claire said she was adopted ...
---
Hell that other kid who filmed Claire could be a hero: ditto that for Claire's brother, who I believe is her blood brother and that she is not adopted at all.[/QUOTE]
Yeah, Claire SAID she was adopted, but I don't buy it. I believe her "Adoptive" parents are in fact her biological parents, and that they tell her she is adopted.
It totally seemed like her "real" parents were in fact fake, based on their conversation with the "adoptive dad" when they were leaving the house.
I've only been in a hospital once as a patient - when I was born. I'm almost never sick, I've never been seriously injured and I don't have any dangerous allergies. Each of the other members of my family has had at least two emergency room visits.Mr Unbreakable! I thought that was you....your true identity has now been revealed......!
If Micah genetically inherited his power, it should be the power of one or the other parents, or a blend of both.
To say that Micah has a random power, unrelated to his parents' powers, breaks the whole point of him being the offspring of two people with special powers...Genetic Predisposition ...
I would actually think a more generic "superpwer genetic predisposition" would be more realistic (relatively speaking of course) than a "SuperPowerA" gene and "SuperPowerB" gene.
You've got a genetic predisposition to having a superpower. Whether (or not) a superpower manifests ... and even what that superpower is ... might then very well depend on other genetic and even environmental factors.
Take a look at other complex attributes like "musical ability" or "mental-emotional disabilities". Lots of complex interactions of genetic and environmental factors ...
Actually ... looking at this little superfamily that seems to have a genetic predisposition to superpowers. One could find some links between their environment and the actual superpower that manifested itself ... DL in custody needed to escape. Niki needed to protect and provide for herself and her son. And Micah, the child prodigy who plays with computers and technology. Hmm ... genetic and environmental factors. Nature and nurture.
kucharsk 11-09-06, 02:09 AM So if anyone says a person has the power to create flame, Marvel can sue them?I think if the following was presented to an average jury, they'd at least see merit in the case:
A group of ordinary people find they have what could be considered super powers. They don't know why, and at first glance it doesn't appear to be genetic, but who knows. Some choose to use their powers for good but others use their new found powers for personal gain. What will happen when the world finds out about them? Will those who want to do good persevere in the face of those who would not?
Is this:
1) X-Men
2) Heroes?
Yeah, the details are different but really, the concept is very much the same.

Mystique and Nightcrawler.
Magneto and Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch.

I don't think so, you could make the same argument about cop shows:
A group of cops in New York, each have a family. Will the cops be bad, or will the cops be good, we don't know yet, etc. etc. A lot of shows are similiar and you don't get sued. DC doesn't sue Marvel because they have someone that can fly and is invulnerable, or plastic man and elastic man, etc. etc. There really are not that many similarities between this show and x-men except one person can heal and so can someone in x-men, one can fly, so can one in x-men, I mean that is a pretty far stretch to being like the x-men.

As a case in point, many years ago, there was a series called The Greatest American Hero about the adventures of a man receiving a "super suit".
As Wikipedia mentions:
"The powers of the red suit were somewhat broad, but still were 'similar' enough to the abilities of Superman that Warner Bros., the owners of DC Comics, filed a lawsuit against ABC which was, ultimately, dismissed[1] as the premise's core concept of a human receiving an alien costume/weapon to fight evil was closer to that of the Silver Age Green Lantern"

Spoiler warning - in a future episode they revealed that Nathan really isn't bad as some think he is, and that something will happen that he has to embrace his power and realize he needs to start using it, thus making him a "good" hero.
Spoiler wasn't too much of one for me. I was assuming and hoping this would be the case with him. I think his primary problem right now he's just too blinded by his political career and politically power hungry. So much so that he can't even think clearly enough to realize the astonishing things he could accomplish with his power to fly.
Nothing really "super" about that power. Most women of a certain age and appearance have the same power. It's called "coming on to a guy," and is guaranteed to keep 90% of said guys with said woman of a certain age and appearance for the better part of the night.LOL....that's every woman's power! But it was no problamo for Celibacy-man...

What exactly is the "certain age and appearance" you are referring to here? I'm curious to know if I exceed it or not. :)
Anyone else think that Nathan's trophy-wife will walk again?

Yep. I bet she has powers too. Seems like everyone else does.
Anyone else think that Nathan's trophy-wife will walk again?I don't think she has powers, but I think Micah will fix her.
Even without powers she'll walk again. If the show survives long enough. Hollywood rules, can't break 'em.
I don't think she has powers, but I think Micah will fix her.Or maybe we'll find out that the Cheerleader can mend others besides herself.
Yep. I bet she has powers too. Seems like everyone else does.
Yep! I'm convinced from last weeks episode that she does has power...wonder what this "power" will be??
I think only those who constantly are in contact with each other have some special power. It's like they will only associate with someone who have that certain secret. They are not doing this intentionally but they will indeed cross paths.
dmbatch 11-13-06, 01:14 PM According to the promos all our questions will be answered in the next 2 episodes.

The tattoos seem to appear when they use their powers...as far as I can tell.

I loved that show. Although I will admit, his not being able to use the suit correctly (he lost the instruction manual) got kinda old.
The theme song (I think it was Walking on Air or Believe it or Not) was a question on that Who Wants to be a Millionaire show. The guy called his mother, who correctly identified the song, but he did not believe her & got it wrong.
Yay...! We got through an ep without Cheerleader-Girl dying or getting mutilated. And we get a new hero; Memory-Girl. We also now know Suresh's 'power' and it's pretty interesting. I'm really wondering what happened to Hiro....perhaps he encountered Sylar.

So, Claire's dad is a "good" bad guy? At first he sounds all helpful, then is willing to get the guy back on drugs. Thing is, since he has seen the tape and he knows his daughter can heal, why is he so worried she will be killed? She already died once.

Anyway, about the offspring of superheroes, I think it is pretty clear from the Incredibles that Offspring can have completely different superpowers than their parents. If that isn't definitive, I don't know what would be...
Actully lets go back even further. Mr. Fantastic & the Invisible Woman (That's Reed & Susan Richards for you non Fantastic Four Fans) got married in the early 80's. Their son, Franklin, had incredible powers. He even "made" his body grow up, but still had the mind of a 4 year old child. He had powers approaching the Dark Phoenix level, until they basically tricked him into becoming a four year old again.
I guess the implication is that two super parents produce offspring that not only do not really share either parents powers, but the child's powers (whatever they may be) are several orders of magnitude greater than either parent alone or both toghether.
edit: Whoops! RockyF beat me by 5 days. :) But my point stands.
Kevin12586 11-13-06, 10:28 PM As we saw in that picture, Hiro did make it to the past, no idea what happened to him though. The cheerleaders father appears to be on the good side, but maybe he plays it down the middle, this is his daughter so you never know. What exactly is Mulhinder's power or is it the kids?

I believe that his power is to see the past exactly as it happened. Basically the guy is the greatest detective that ever lived.
I think the kid is his sister.

Yes, he did make back at least to her birthday party. God, I hope they are not setting up some kind of horrible paradox here. Didn't the waitress (I forget her name) say her memory powers started just after her skin-day?
Yes, HRG appears to be ruthless in his quest to protect his daughter. I think he knows something about Sylar that would (possibly) allow Sylar to "kill" or somehow stop the cheerleader from regenerating.
Now I have a little pet peeve. I know that this is a fantasy/sci-fi show, but Hiro's timeshifting/teleporting power is just a little too unbelievable. The oppurtunity for that guy to basically, completely destroy or knock out-of-whack the space time continuum is just too much of a stretch. Think about teleportation. Changing matter into energy & then back. Just think about the kind of power that a human body would have to generate to do that. Every little bit of dust, every bug, grain of sand, atom (including his own) would essentially have to be captured in some kind of "snapshot" of space time itself. I mean this is jut too much!!
Ok I'm done ranting now. Actually I love this show. It is definately scratching my X-Files itch, especially with the let down ending that X had. (& Surface too  )
Edit: Just took a quick peek at the Heroes Wiki. The company that made the garbage diposal that Claire stuck her hand in, has sued NBC as the garbage disposal has now suffered harm (http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-garbagedisposalmakersuesheroes,0,1817275.story?coll=zap-news-headlines)!

Another epidode another Hero....or put another way:
Another Day....another hero.
Should we start a poll as to how many heroes we will have by the end of the season?

Another Day....another hero.Actually, we may have found three, including Mohinder and the boy. And I don't think we were sure that Eden had powers. But we lost one, the waitress - Hiro hasn't saved her yet. Keeping her from going to work that one day (if he's successful) isn't going to keep Sylar from taking her brain.
I liked the waitress. She adds/added a bit of lightness to the show. All the other characters are soooo serious, she was fun. I hope she is back.
rebkell 11-14-06, 12:44 AM Best show to date in my book, glad to see them moving things along and we're revving up for some action, I'm so use to LOST and never getting anything answered that this is like moving at warp speed.

Plus the spy girl (the one that befriended mohindar) can apparently 'persuade' people by whispering sweet nothings to them. Apparently it doesn't work on Mohindar, cuz he left for India anyway.

Remember Sylar takes their brains. When Claire 'died' her brain had that object in it (wood?). When it was removed she healed. If the brain is removed she's a goner.
Now how her dad would know that (other than common sense), I don't know.
Kram Sacul 11-14-06, 01:10 AM Wow. Tonight's episode proved without a doubt that this show is so much better without either Petrelli brother or the Nikki storyline. Too bad it won't last though.
Did anyone notice Mohindar's family home? This looked like an estate rather than the home of a university prof. Looking at the home I was puzzled why his dad would be driving a cab when there was obvious money.

I don't think it's his sister. The file he opened up after he used the key had a name on it (don't remember it but it I don't think it was a girl's name). Besides, didn't his mother say his sister was 5 when she died? That kid looked to be about 10 or 11.
cavalierlwt 11-14-06, 07:34 AM Wow, I just read an article about the ratings, 13-14 million viewers!!!
Nice to see this show turn into such a hit, gives us some breathing room so that we know we'll get to see at least a couple of seasons.
caernavon 11-14-06, 08:42 AM Really good episode. The ending, with the camera moving in on the photo of Hiro and the waitress, reminded me of the ending of The Shining.
Awesome series. I just wish they had someone there to polish the dialogue, which seems to range from unobtrusive to cringingly bad.
nashvillecat 11-14-06, 08:46 AM I don't recall Hero was able to disappear. He just vanishes in that diner?? I don't think so...!

'disappear' = teleporting, which he's been shown to do already.
madpoet 11-14-06, 09:57 AM Yeah, that kid was a) Male, and b) too old. I'm not sure by the way that the powers were actually Mohindar's. It seems more likely that it was the kid's power.
And for those who are saying spy-girl's power didn't work on Mohindar... um, how do we know? Remember, all she said was she was sure she'd see him again. It could simply have been a command to come back in 3 weeks.
I hope the waitress chick makes it... she was nice. I have a feeling though she won't. But if Hiro had managed to affect the past, wouldn't the whole present have been totally different? The friend wouldn't have been sitting there, there wouldn't be the crime scene, etc; So obviously his impact is minimal. We also of course know he doesn't die since we've already seen future Hiro.
As for Sylar/Claire, it's obvious he's eating his victim's brains to gain their powers. Now, wether that is actually working or not who knows. But he seems to have a pretty mean range of powers more than the usual one. So maybe it is.
nuttyinnyc 11-14-06, 10:22 AM Did anyone notice Mohindar's family home? This looked like an estate rather than the home of a university prof. Looking at the home I was puzzled why his dad would be driving a cab when there was obvious money.
the father had money but he was working as a Cab driver to stay low and off the radar. Remeber he knows Sylar and what he is capable of doing. He needs to do his research but be as invisible as possible. I wouldn't be surprised if he worked with HRG but was hiding his findings from the company. This is why HRG was searching his apartment after he died.

It is must see show(which will make it very difficult come Jan 15)and a great episode but we are going to get kicked back in a couple of weeks with a who were they before they got their powers episode. At least we know they are going to have a good ole, bad vs evil confrontation before that happens. The Bomb will be stopped and the cheerleader will be saved and memory girl will have a new lifesaver. At least that is what I think will happen.
nashvillecat 11-14-06, 10:49 AM I did enjoy the part when Hero and the smart waitress started talking. Hero was so impressed. Like it takes allot to impress that guy, huh?
What I do find fascinating about this show is how the people with "powers" relate to each other.
Where is Claire's Mom / "Mean guy's" wife during all of this?
Oh' yeh, and that little conversation when Claire was drwaing and daddy was talking to her. They mentioned "being a hero" several times. Very cool!

Sorry I wasn't referring to his excitement at being called cute...He's just a dork :-)
But his excitement over her ability to speak Japanese is pretty authentic. Some Japanese people are so convinced foreigners are incapable of speaking it, they almost don't believe it. They'd be just as surprised if their pets starting speaking Japanese to them :-) This is from firsthand experience (Japanese Minor in college, lived in Japan for a semester).

Possibly to give Hiro more determination to not shrink back from his powers. To empower him to change things and do good deeds with his powers.
So, the episode didn't talk about Micah, Niki/Jessica, and DL....so what...we went 2 or 3 episodes without hearing about the man who can read thoughts. Nathan wasn't in this episode as well...I thought everyone wanted them to spend more time on specific characters each week, instead of giving 5 minute re-caps on all the heroes around the world? So, they do that, and people still complain??

I think Last night they added a min. So if CSI started at 900 exactly you probably changed over at 902. After the previews and Comercials.
rebkell 11-14-06, 01:08 PM That was the show's title, "Seven Minutes to Midnight." They usually do something like that with the show title.

Interesting, in the diner, his wristwatch said 7 till midnight, in the cab when Mohinder was having the vision of his fathers death, the wristwatch said 5 til midnight, the second hand was close to the 7 second mark, but the time was closer to 5 til midnight.
danc8379 11-14-06, 01:54 PM So if Syler was right there in the diner taking out the waitress, why not get Hiro at the same time? Is it possible that he hasn't yet identified him as having gifts? He could have gotten a 2 for 1 special.

Hiro, didn't use his powers until after Sylar left., while the girl was using them while he was there. Once Sylar sensed them he went for the kill when she went in the back room. I really like her stopping what she was doing, then blood(drip drip). Caught me off guard, I thought for sure he was going to get into a mix up with Hiro somehow.
Nachosgrande 11-14-06, 02:43 PM How many times is Hiro going to go to the bathroom while someone gets offed? Card game, now the waitress. Writers need to change it up a bit.

Dangerous Ground to Tread. It's in both the eye of the beholder and the state of mind of the beholdee. Pretty much everyone can qualify, one way or the other.
hongcho 11-14-06, 02:53 PM Another random thoughts...
I don't think Mr. Bennet is working for himself. The way he seems to be hands-on, I suspect there is a bigger (more financially capable) backer. I am guess it would be Mr. Linderman.
I don't remember exactly, but when Mohinder was watching his dad killed by Sylar, that might be when Sylar's watch got cracked. I don't remember if the watch was cracked before or not.
Sanjog ("Iyar" is definitely a family name as my Indian co-worker told me. It is actually a "cast" name, but also used as a family name) was obviously manipulating Mohinder's dream. He wanted Mohinder to discover about him with the key to the locked drawer. I think Sanjog's another ability is something like remote-vision. I doubt he was in NYC when Papa Suresh died.
Not sure how Sylar tracks his victims. Maybe he scans the newspaper or the TV for some odd occurrences. He could have watched on TV the scene where Claire saved a person from a fire. He knows where, so he is on his way there. I don't know if Sylar really targeted Charlie. Maybe he was there for a cup of coffee when he noticed her. I doubt Sylar can detect other "heroes" because he didn't know anything about Hiro.
I also liked Charlie. I hope Hiro can save her.
So, it was Sylar who went after the girl in the FBI's custody. He knew that since she is an offspring of a "hero", she must be one too. So, we know that Sylar at least has telekinesis. Probably the freezing ability too.
Hong.
cheneyp 11-14-06, 03:02 PM OK, nc, gotta ask - which "Hero" are you on the Geek Girl of the Month website?
pappy97 11-14-06, 03:19 PM It is must see show(which will make it very difficult come Jan 15)and a great episode but we are going to get kicked back in a couple of weeks with a who were they before they got their powers episode. At least we know they are going to have a good ole, bad vs evil confrontation before that happens. The Bomb will be stopped and the cheerleader will be saved and memory girl will have a new lifesaver. At least that is what I think will happen.
My wife is convinced that there is no bomb, but that the NYC explosion is caused by Radiation Man.
But then again, she also thought Mr. Bennett memory-erasing henchman was Syler, so she could be wrong.
Personally I think it is too obvious a set up for the explosion, but my wife makes this point:
Why is the cheerleader so important? Answer from her: Because she is the only one who can be in constant contact with Radiation Man, and thus can stop him from blowing up NYC.
sdchrgrboy 11-14-06, 03:58 PM I wonder if Hiro broke Sylar's watch...
I'm thinking it was when Slylar's hand hit the window of the taxi as he was killing Mohinder's dad. And the closeup on it by the camera was my second clue. But that's just me.

Maybe Sylar's watch is a real-life doomsday clock and based on who he kills, or, conversely, which Heroes meet up? His watch moves forward or backwards based on events.
NetworkTV 11-14-06, 05:07 PM I thought the name on the file was S.......... , Iyler but it was Iyer.
Like my son said, "that would have been a good catch if you had actually caught something".

Yeah, I thought the same thing. However, maybe the reason nobody can find Syler is that they are pronouncing the name wrong:
I hope the waitress chick makes it... she was nice. I have a feeling though she won't. But if Hiro had managed to affect the past, wouldn't the whole present have been totally different? The friend wouldn't have been sitting there, there wouldn't be the crime scene, etc; So obviously his impact is minimal. We also of course know he doesn't die since we've already seen future Hiro.I sorta thought the same thing; Hiro should have nearly instantly returned. His friend shouldn't have had a long wait. If he was killed by Sylar, then his buddy should have been returned to Japan with no memory of his U.S. adventures (or Hiro). Then again, he didn't stop time did he? I think he teleported, which I assume, means he's moving through the past in real-time. Can he freeze time while in the past?

OTOH, if you really want to get all paradoxical, imagine if Hiro succeeded. Then the girl would not have been killed so Hiro would not have to go back in time and his friend would not have been waiting. The future (present) where his friend was waiting would no longer have to exist and so Hiro might not be able to return there.

Or if he could return, perhaps not so accurately. Kind of like shotting at a moving target. Since his friend did seem to be waiting maybe the assumption could be the time line only changed a little. Of course, being a TV show it could be anything.

I do like the idea of it not being a bomb but atom-guy.

If it hasn't already been posted, this week's comic is up:
Isaac's First Time (http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/novel_008.shtml)
Once again, if you haven't, I highly recommend everyone read all the comics to fill in the back stories of all the characters. It helps a great deal.
Too bad the comic doesn't answer the question of whether Isaac initially needed to get high to paint the future (even if we think we know the answer to that question). He got high before the show, but that's not the same thing.

This is fairly close to what he said:
You know uhm, many years now, a number of us have been tracking, locating monitoring , people like you sometimes the process goes smoothly, as in your case ...and other times, well let's just say some people misinterpret our motives, and they can go very wrong. 14 years ago there was just such a case, which sadly ended in a death.a woman left behind a baby girl that had no one to take care of her, My wife and I had been having a hard time conceiving a child of our own at the time, and it was like god had reached down and given us a miracle, Isaac, this is my daughter we're talking about, I'm begging you,
Lost4Sure 11-14-06, 10:46 PM rebkell -
Thank you for the info. My boyfriend and I had a debate going about that comment. He said the woman was murdered, and I said she we only knew she died, not how. I guess I win the debate! :)
So, Claire's dad is a "good" bad guy? ...Thing is, since he has seen the tape and he knows his daughter can heal, why is he so worried she will be killed? She already died once. She apparently must have some major vulnerability or the others wouldn't need to save her in order to save the world. "Save The Cheerleader, (from what?) Save The World"
Marcus Carr 11-15-06, 01:27 AM Why is the cheerleader so important? Answer from her: Because she is the only one who can be in constant contact with Radiation Man, and thus can stop him from blowing up NYC.
That was kind of already done in X-Men: The Last Stand. I hope something more original happens.
She apparently must have some major vulnerability or the others wouldn't need to save her in order to save the world. "Save The Cheerleader, (from what?) Save The World"
How does everyone interpret this line? Is it two commands:
1) Save the cheerleader.
2) Save the world
or is it a cause and effect
Save the cheerleader (and you will) save the world.
For a while I thought it was the latter but lately I've been thinking it's the former.
1) Save the cheerleader.
2) Save the world
or is it a cause and effectSaving the cheerleader = stopping Siler.
Stopping Siler = he can't kill the [escaped] atomic man.
Prevent the death of the atomic man = preventing nuclear explosion in New York
Preventing nuclear explosion in New York = preventing World War III
I'm hoping NBC just threw in all those comments about "be careful, do you know what's going to happen if you shoot me" comments to throw us off, because otherwise the conclusion is far too obvious.

That would be a logical progression.
After reading other comments, I believe that things do pivot around her (IF you save the cheerleader, THEN you will save the world). Although she heals quickly, she is not invulnerable. If Sylar were to remove her brain and do whatever he does with them, she would be dead.
The writers seem to be going in the direction that all of these "heroes" need to work together as a team for protection and combined strength. Individually, they have limited ability. As Nathan said, "So I can fly. When I get there what can I do?" Well, if he happened to be carrying Niki/Jessica she could beat the living hooha out of the bad guys.

Why would Ando even be in the diner at all now, Hiro goes back in time, the picture on the board of the diner showed the girl by herself with a birthday cake, after Hiro transported back(or whatever it was that he did), it shows the same picture with the girl and Hiro in it, how is Ando affected in all this, if he traveled back with Hiro I might not have so much trouble with it, but if Hiro changes the timeline, then Ando will have a completely different experience, etc.... this whole power of Hiro's just warps my mind trying to understand.

Maybe it is save the cheerleader (from Syler) save the world. If Sylar can absorb the "heroes" powers than he would indestructible after absorbing Claire's power. Then he can go about destorying the world.
Also, don't know if this was posted, I think the spy-girl who works for Claire's dad may also be working w/ Sylar:
She was with Mohinder when they found the apartment. Then it was cleaned out.
She know his dad was getting close (killed by Sylar).
Issac was killed in the future, she knows where he lived. And she knows where the most lived due to her work w/ Claire's dad.
Then the look she gave Claire when she saw her w/ her dad. Kinda like "you're next."

Ando and Hiro being in the diner had nothing to do with the girl. You can't assume Hiro going back in time would affect his own time line or Ando's since he went back to change the girl's time line. He may have not returned for a number of reasons not relating to having damaged his own time line. He may have just aimed for ten minutes to far ahead and will appear soon. Unless Hiro meets himself in the past and says "don't go to the diner" I don't see his time line changing very much.

So Hiro goes back and whatever time he goes back too, there are then two Hiro's in that timeline? Each acting separately, doing their own thing? I'm just wanting to understand how all this is supposed to work, I've never been one that got into all the paradox scenarios, but in this show I'm going to have to get a grasp, since it's evidently going to be a major part of the show.

Doesn't seem likely. Sylar is pretty clearly a loner type. And the dad (and hence his 2 "workers") already knows his daughter is next in line from the paintings. I saw the look more as worry.
You can bet it will be none of the things we thought of about Hiro so far.;)

Fiction has often used time travel liberally, but in reality, paradoxes do not exist.
Hiro leaves Time B and travels back to Time A, but he can't possibly meet himself back in Time A, since at Time B he would have already known he met himself, since Time A is in the past.
You can't alter the past. Anything you go back in time and do, you've already done before...
There was an interesting Twilight Zone episode about this, "Back There," where a man goes back in time to the eve of President Lincoln's assassination. He tries to get someone, anyone, to believe him that the President is going to be shot at Ford's Theater that night. The only person to believe him, unknowingly to him, is John Wilkes Boothe, who hadn't even thought of assassinating Lincoln. So, not only did the man from the future fail to change history, he was actually the one who gave John Wilkes Boothe the idea in the first place...
It's all been done before.
Similarly, if you travel into the future, learn what the future is like, then return and try to influence events to avoid the future that you saw, you'll fail. Why? Because in the future that you saw, anything you try to do has already been tried *in that future's past* so, that too, has all been done before.
Basically, time travellers are moot, since their actions (at whatever time) are an integral part of the whole timeline...
Mindblowing, huh? :D
But, fiction is all about "what if," so I say: "Bring it on, Hiro!"

Actually, I understand everything you wrote, that's why I think the writers need to give us their definition/perception or somehow make us more attuned to how this time travel works. In the episode where Hiro talked to Peter in the future he talked about risking a rift just by being there.
Chevron07 11-15-06, 03:09 PM I'd like to see the Hiro/Ando situation be more of a "what if" POV.
The Ando we saw last night is now timeline (A) Ando. Hiro changed the past, and can effectively never return to timeline (A) because from Hiro's POV it no longer exists. When Hiro jumps back to the diner, he jumps from the changed timeline (B), to meet back up with timeline (B) Ando. They go onto save the cheerleader and fulfill their mission in timeline (B) along with the rest of the characters...
However, for an episode, they could show Ando in timeline (A) witness the events that lead up to the failure of our Heroes if the waitress was still dead.
I guess this wouldn't really work, because the picture proves that Hiro did change the Ando's timeline. Oh well.

If Hiro changes the past, like when biff took the gambling book back to 1965?, a new present would be created from the moment he went back and changed something, so Ando's present would no longer exist.

The fascinating part is that his son played by James Caviezel remembers both timelines. I'll say no more for the benefit of those who haven't seen the film.

This is why time travel stories make your head hurt.
The thing is, Ando could be sitting there because the ripple (butterfly) effect hadn't caught up with the present yet. Hiro could re-appear the next second and exclaim, "All fix!".
Time travel is fun as a concept, but requires a large helping of suspension of disbelief, because impossible situations are set up.

All I can say is Hiro is GREAT. I love how geeky he is and how when he comes back from the future (we don't know how far future) he is like a full superhiro. He's cool and self assured and know how to avoid "breaking time" (maybe he learns a hard lesson on this current trip). So far he is my favorite hero. After all it's his name.

Didn't he buy all his clothes/jewelry etc from an antique store?
If Hiro changes the past, like when biff took the gambling book back to 1965?, a new present would be created from the moment he went back and changed something, so Ando's present would no longer exist. Doesn't anyone remember when Doc diagrammed what takes place on the chalkboard because Marty didn't understand ?? He showed a timeline based on what "did" happen. Then he showed it split off, in the past, when Biff returned with the gambling book, hence creating "a new present", just like you said.
What's the phrase that Doc used for that, by the way ??
CardiacArrest 11-15-06, 05:07 PM I believe on this show they are going with a timeline relative to the traveller. That is, everything that was in the past at the moment Hiro travelled back stays the same, except for anything that Hiro changes. That is why Ando is still there, but the police are not.
All I can say is Hiro is GREAT.
Yeah, Hiro is my favorite Hero.
Nikki is HOT, but Hiro is the fun character...

Yep, Hiro is the man. Although I'll admit I'm ready for him to start speaking English, I'm getting subtitled out. :-)
On topic though I subscribe to the Back to the Future school of time travel and what Hiro did is bunk, but I will accept it as long as it remains consistent throughout the show.I subscribe to it as well. Although it is a comedy, I liked the idea of Marty's looming non-existence if his parents never hook-up....fading photographs, etc,. Who would've thought Back To the Future would set the standard for time-travel (?).
dmbatch 11-15-06, 06:39 PM In BTTF, two future Marty's were in the past at the same time and it didn't cause the world to blow up or anything. I think Hiro could go back and watch himself doing something in the past.

Not the watch. Elise gave that to him when he was still a student at college when she said "come back to me". She was holding it checking the time when he discovered the penny in his pocket. It is a circle.

Funny! We just rewatched Legally Blond this weekend and did the "Scooby Doo what" when she came on the screen.

Yeah, I'm sure the producers are making the writers and directors of the show get rid of the sub-titles. Something tells me that Hiro will be teaching Charlie his language while in the past and Charlie will be teaching Hiro English in the past. So when Hiro returns to the diner with his buddy still there, he will speak perfect English. ;)
Anyone recall where the show introduced the "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World" theme? Was it just from the painting? Thanks.
lrowland 11-16-06, 10:48 AM Anyone recall where the show introduced the "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World" theme? Was it just from the painting? Thanks.
It was when Hiro appeared on the train to warn Peter.

And I'm afraid I missed the significance of the photo of Hiro and the waitress w/ birthday hat pinned to the bulletin board in the restaurant after Hiro teleported off. Was it to imply that Hiro had managed to get back to her earlier and warn her? If so, why were the cops still there investigating her death?

Yes, to show that he made it back to the past. However, I don't recall seeing any cops, just the janitor with his mop and bucket in the background. He could be cleaning up spill instead of a crime scene.

Good catch! It certainly wouldn't have been a janitor cleaning up the "mess" if said "mess" was bloody goo-ey remains of a dead waitress.
And Hiro's friend looked confused. Perhaps, if Hiro went back and changed Charlie's day, Hiro's friend would wonder why Hiro is on the board with some girl he had never seen before.
barth2k 11-16-06, 12:27 PM OT: speaking of time travel, I highly recommend the book The Time Traveler's Wife. I'm half way through it and it's a fantastic read. About a man who randomly time-travels back and forth in his life and meets his wife/parents/himself at various stages of their lives. It's a great idea and executed beautifully. Gives you lots to think about life, love, and passing of time. Maybe the best love story I've ever read.

I don't think Ando saw the photo (yet).
archiguy 11-16-06, 12:36 PM Okay, thanks. I guess I just saw the uniform and automatically assumed it was a cop while paying closer attention to other things on the screen. :o
I take it back! After reviewing the scene again (my DVR cut off the last bit with Ando looking concerned and the slow zoom on the photo - I finally caught it right at the beginning of my follow-on Studio 60 recording), it was two cops in uniform milling about. So, it's looking like, in that timeline at least, Charlie did still get her brain sucked out.
rantanamo 11-16-06, 12:57 PM wow, went back and watched. You're right. Things did change. Janitor cleaning up. There are specialized crime scene cleanup crews, and that wasn't it, just a janitor.
madpoet 11-16-06, 01:22 PM I read THe TIme Traveller's Wife on the urging of my own wife. I was left... disatisfied. I hope you enjoy it much more than I did.
I found it interesting that when Matt and "Sofie" were interrogating Radiation Man at the police station, they noticed their badges had turned red, yet they didn't leave!
I think they assumed the rad level is related to his agitation level. Notice the badges turned in a second when he got upset (not to mention the water). As to why they did not run out right away... all I can say is I would have left skid marks on the floor. This is one of those "TV" moments I have learned to accept but I would rather see people act like they really would act and, to me, hanging around asking a few more questions is not what that would be. Hell, they could have talked to him from the other side of the glass; I bet he would have understood.

tonybradley 11-16-06, 10:19 PM I have a hypothesis. If someone has mentioned something similar, just ignore me as I haven't read all the posts, but try to read many.
Save the Cheerleader, Save the World. Why is Claire so Important. I think she's the only one that can stop Radiation Man from doing whatever it is he does (on purpose or accident) to Nuke NY. Whiping out NY could possibly bring down the economy of the US and in turn, the world. Maybe the Heroes need to save Claire as she's the only one that won't die (or if she does, she'll come back to life) when she touches or is near Radiation man????
I think Claire is the source of DNA for all the other Heroes and Villians. Remember she was the only survivor of a train crash 15 or so years ago as an infant, and apparenly all the other people with powers have popped up since then.

And while the coroner would take away the body, there's no "County Cleanup Crew" to take care of the stains that are left. You get to do that yourself (no, I do not have personal experience).
But your and rantanamo's theory that the waitress' death was prevented is
still plausible. The cops could have been there for any reason at all (it was late in the day for that last scene - I think the chairs were on top of some of the tables) and the janitor could have been just doing regular clean up.

There is no cleanup crew in virtually any city in America. Its an unpleasant finding many innocent people find out after the fact which doesn't help with their coping of what happened.
The law enforcement officials do their investigation and the property owner must deal with what is left.

I'm surprised that with Everyone rewatching the part over again nobody notice that Hiro probably shot himself way pass what he wanted to.You can obviously tell from the photo that they are now an item or very good friends which means that he probably went back in time way further than we think and built a relationship with the waitress.Just before he leaves is friend even mentions to him that he may go back or forward more than he intends to because he has no control over his powers...He probably went back a few weeks or maybe months.Which leaves me to wonder if everything that happen with Hiro (and everyone else)since the beginning of the show is still valid now that he screwed up the events of the timeline.Thing is if they wanna keep this show going they may have to rewind a lot because we know they are somewhere in October and the "Explosion" is coming on november 5th for them if I remember correctly which technically leaves a show timeframe of 4-5 weeks....You can't run a show for 3-4 seasons on a couple weeks of timeframe unless it's "24" or something.Once they've saved the world the plot is kinda dead...no?! One last thing...The Doctor's son and the file,I'm pretty sure that file is about him, that's why is dad was obsessed with these "Heroes" cause is son (and daughter before she died) both have somekinda dream power.

Well, that plotline is. The way I figure they're going to go with this show is that this season, or half-season, is for introducing the characters and establishing their interactions with each other. They have a "supervillian" to battle as well while they're doing all this, which is Sylar. Once they "find" each other and defeat Sylar, there will be other battles, other plotlines, as they establish their, uh, heroism. This sort of show, unlike LOST for example, can thus go on forever. Perhaps each season they will fight a new supervillian bent on destroying humanity or something. And, judging by the ratings and audience acceptance, that could be a long, long time. This is the kinda' gig a struggling actor dreams about, I should think.
Bill Shakespeare 11-17-06, 11:15 AM I think Claire is the source of DNA for all the other Heroes and Villians. Remember she was the only survivor of a train crash 15 or so years ago as an infant, and apparenly all the other people with powers have popped up since then.
Train wreck? When was that discussed? I missed it. Claire's dad said his intervention went wrong and Claire's biological mother died, but did he mention a train wreck?
I think the Train Wreck on NBC was "Kidnapped."

She can't be, she's younger than the rest of them.
I don't recall anything about a train wreck either...
lrowland 11-17-06, 11:48 AM This is totally a guess but, I think our heroes were born with a pre-disposition to the mutation and it took something to turn it on - like an engineered virus. Also, perhaps the organization Claire's dad works with is responsible for developing this virus. My feeling is also that the company Mohinder's former fiance in India works for is the same one as Claire's dad in the US.
Again, all just guesses based on what we have seen so far.
NetworkTV 11-17-06, 11:57 AM The cops were against the back wall at the end. And while the coroner would take away the body, there's no "County Cleanup Crew" to take care of the stains that are left. You get to do that yourself (no, I do not have personal experience).

Don't forget, there were two cops eating at the diner before the crime even happened (she helped the one with the crossword and gave the Oscar winner information to the other). i deleted my recording, so I don't know if it was the same pair. It appears the bathroom is also back the same direction as the store room, so if they were up and milling around, it's possible they were just using the bathroom before heading out on patrol. If they were different cops, then obviously what I said above is bunk. It would be one heck of a huge police force all on duty in that little town and able to have lunch at the same time.
On the other hand, like was said in another post, perhaps the new timeline just hasn't trickled down the pipe yet. We may yet see a time wave wash over the place and things change dramatically. Of course, isn't Hiro's partner currently sitting at the cops' table? What happens if he's still there when they never get up to go see what the commotion in the back room was? Or does he revert to the original table he and Hiro sat at?
You can't alter the past. Anything you go back in time and do, you've already done before...
There was an interesting Twilight Zone episode about this, "Back There," where a man goes back in time to the eve of President Lincoln's assassination. He tries to get someone, anyone, to believe him that the President is going to be shot at Ford's Theater that night. The only person to believe him, unknowingly to him, is John Wilkes Boothe, who hadn't even thought of assassinating Lincoln. So, not only did the man from the future fail to change history, he was actually the one who gave John Wilkes Boothe the idea in the first place...
Another Twilight Zone type show (Outter Limits maybe) did one where a woman was sent back to 1880s to become Adolf Hitler's nanny while he was a baby. Her job was to kill him so that Nazi Germany wouldn't rise. All along some things didn't match...for example the child had blond hair. In the end,she did kill him by jumping in a river with him. His father freaked and bought the male child from a homeless woman. This child had black hair. That's where the episode ended.

nuttyinnyc 11-17-06, 12:22 PM let me throw a wrench into all this, Hiro goes back in time. We know that he went to past and does in some amount of time(on a birthday, his or hers)get to know the girl. I think it is safe to assume he saves he by making her not go to work on this day, but his friend is still at the diner. Are we to believe that after he met her and stopped her from going to work there was a slip in time so his friend was still waiting for him to come back but he did change time and will show up with her hand & hand after the time of the killing. With no one knowing anything but his friend. Or does Hiro's friend end up being transported back to Japan because what happened didn't happen because Hiro stopped it. ME confused. Dizzy so Dizzy. If anyone understood what I wrote. let me know. I know what I am thinking but it just isn't translating in to typing. I guess the best way to describe my thoughts is hiro present, hiro go past, present no exist.
about clean-up crews: I saw something on Discovery a few years ago about a company that specializes in cleaning crime scenes. I don't remember if the city they are in has them under contract or if property owners are on their own.
I was a teenager when I last saw this, but "Timerider" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086443/) was in entertaining movie with a neat ending (for the story, not for scientific "accuracy"). This event doesn't take into consideration the accumulated age of the...something. I'm don't want to give it away.
Again, Hiro and Ando were not in the diner as a result of anything the waitress did. Her not being there is not going to stop Ando from being there. waitress not present does not equal hero-friend not present. As for what Ando will know; it is hard to say. One way to handle it would be to say Ando was involved in the time change event (just by knowing Hiro) so he has knowledge of the time line before and after the change otherwise he will end up guessing that Hiro did some kind of time thing but won't know what or why since he did not, in fact, ever meet the waitress. Either way it will work for me.

Actually, if they could really achieve the level of Star Trek teleportation, can you imagine how crowded the middle of nowhere would become as people make a mad rush to get the heck out of the big cities? Why live in NYC or LA, elbow to elbow with other people when you can just work there and teleport in from your ranch in Montanna? If people are already willing to make hour or longer commutes each day just to live in the suburbs, imagine what would happen if they could live anywhere and have an essentially zero-time commute? There'd undoubtably be a mass of land use regualtions that would zip into effect in preparation of such a land rush should this technology actually become possible. In, the amount of regulation and safety standards that would have to be put into place to prevent unauthorized teleports into or from foreign countries or the possibilty of teleporting explosives or other harmful items onto planes or into public buildings. Finally, this might yield a law enforcement nightmare as people could teleport to one city and commit a crime, then zip back home to another with no record of their travel in the time it takes to go to the restroom. Tracking people on the run or in a country illegally would be a heck of a job.
Such an innovation would have perils right up there with flying cars: suddenly fender benders become fatalities as minor collisions cause vehicles to drop from the skies.
Al Shing 11-17-06, 03:09 PM Big news from TV Guide:
November 16, 2006 (New York, NY) - On the NBC smash hit Heroes, time-traveling fanboy Hiro Nakamura is insanely obsessed with Star Trek. TV Guide magazine has gotten word that Hiro's father will be played by Trek icon George Takei (Sulu) (in the November 27 issue; on newsstands Thursday, November 23). The new character will be introduced in a January 29 cliff-hanger.
"It was one of those lightning-bolt ideas," creator Tim Kring tells TV Guide.
Masi Oka, who plays Hiro, is also over the moon. "This is absolutely brilliant!" the Tokyo-born actor tells TV Guide. "Hiro's father is this big honcho who shows up in America with his bodyguard. He has this whole elaborate scheme to kidnap his son and take him back to Japan."
Adds Oka, "I just hope I get to say, 'Dad! Sulu is my hero, not you!' The sci-fi fans would love it!"

That news will be impossible to ignore as it draws near. It will be all over the media, impossible to miss. I don't consider casting news to be spoilers, anyway.
Actually, if they could really achieve the level of Star Trek teleportation, can you imagine how crowded the middle of nowhere would become as people make a mad rush to get the heck out of the big cities?
Not very.
Assuming:
- 300,000,000 people in the U.S.
- Average household = 2.6 people
- 1/4 of the 5,984,685 sq. mi. area of the U.S. is made available for residential living (1,496,171 sq. mi.)
That works out to 77 households per square mile, or 8.3 acres per house.
I think that's easily do-able...
Finally, this might yield a law enforcement nightmare as people could teleport to one city and commit a crime, then zip back home to another with no record of their travel in the time it takes to go to the restroom. Tracking people on the run or in a country illegally would be a heck of a job.
But, the cops could move around virtually instantaneously, also, so emergency services response time would be almost nil...
I say almost nil, because then no donut shop on the planet would be out of range for the police, and they'd still have to finish their coffee... :D
Think how fire departments would benefit. A house fire or big wildfire? Teleport in a big load of water and, splash!, fire out.
Such an innovation would have perils right up there with flying cars: suddenly fender benders become fatalities as minor collisions cause vehicles to drop from the skies.
Yeah, I don't see this ever happening. Add in that third dimension and problems go up exponentially. And we all know how bad drivers are today, with only two dimensions to worry about...

This is why you can't think too much about time travel paradoxes. It makes your head hurt.
Remember TOS Star Trek City on the Edge of Forever? McCoy, Kirk and Spock go through the Guardian. Many days pass as the events in the past unfold and the timeline is straightened out.
When they come out of the Guardian, Scotty is surprised at the speed of their return. As far as he and the rest were concerned, it had only been a few seconds/minutes.
Same with Ando in the restaurant. At some point the changed timeline in the past has to catch up with the present reality. Hiro could disappear one second, then re-appear at the table one second later, even having spent several days/weeks/months in the past.
As I said, these things make your head hurt.

The FAA and NASA are already at work on a Air Traffic Control system for personal aircraft. You input your destination and you are given a corridor to fly in, with a heads up display marking your course. The final idea is to have it be computer controlled, just inputting your destination and the computer and ATC take it from there.
Sounds like a juicy target for the crazies, but a cool idea nonetheless. Every family in America could have a vehicle in the air and they could be kept 1 mile from one another (if you believe the weenies who do the math).
On a personal level I think it's a great idea, but despite all the advances I doubt I'll see it in time to take advantage of it lol. They've been promising me a flying car since I was a kid :-)
I saw a guy on a program about 15 years ago, who was developing personal flying vehicles (PFV). The idea was that they would be under satellite tracking, and over-the-limit speeding would result in a ticket being sent right to your door. It's a bit like a transporter-beam; I wouldn't want to be the first to try it.
The FAA and NASA are already at work on a Air Traffic Control system for personal aircraft. You input your destination and you are given a corridor to fly in, with a heads up display marking your course. The final idea is to have it be computer controlled, just inputting your destination and the computer and ATC take it from there.
Lot's of luck with this ever happening. They can't even get cell phones to work reliably...

The weenies have never apparently gone to the mall around Christmas-time! :D
I agree that "flying cars" would be really cool, but most people are just too incompetent to trust behind the wheel of aircraft. Between drunks, people on their phones, and just-plain bad drivers, it would be a massive public-safety nightmare...

Again, it would be a computer controlled system, but I agree. We can't do anything mission critical with the kind of acceptable safety margins that it would require. Not to mention how do you stop the bin Buttholes of the world from wrecking it.

BS
There are 113 Million Households in the USA. That means you need 113 Million Square Miles spread out evenly across the United States.
Even if 1/2 of America moved to Montana, North Dakota, Idaho, Alaska and other low populated states, that still wouldn't be enough as the United States is only 3.7 Million Square Miles.
CPanther95 11-19-06, 08:23 AM You'd need a 1/2 mile radius around each plane which would be around .785 square miles each. You also have the vertical plane which would be about 7 layers of planes. Still seems to come up short.

LOL, I didn't come up with the math, just passing it on. :-)
But if you're asking me to choose between NASA's propeller heads and the AVS guys, I've gotta go with NASA. Unless the subject is DLP, black levels, or Heroes :-)

There is no cleanup crew in virtually any city in America. Its an unpleasant finding many innocent people find out after the fact which doesn't help with their coping of what happened.
The law enforcement officials do their investigation and the property owner must deal with what is left.
There is a company, aptly named "Aftermath", based in the Chicago area which specializes in such cleanup.
For a while, they had purchased billboard space along one of the busiest expressways in the metro area.

Anything over 10,000 feet (iirc - maybe 12k) requires pressurization or the pilot on an oxygen mask at all times. Considering what pressurization adds to cost and weight, there is no way to get 7 layers for personal vehicles. 2 layers is most likely the max with 1 mile separation.
CPanther95 11-19-06, 10:34 PM If we are making the assumption that every household gets their own airplane, it's not much of a leap to say that they will all have pressurized cabins.
Neither is likely to happen anytime soon. We don't even have our damn personal jetpacks yet.

Nope, just commenting on the subject that the math geniuses need to go back to school if they think every family in America could have one of these and have a 1 mile spacing.

It's 14,000 feet, or 12,500 if you are flying more than 1/2 hour--actually after 1/2 hour, so you could be at 13,999 for 29 minutes without O2 and then you must go down to 12,500.
Also, pressurization isn't *that* expensive, assuming an aircraft is already turbocharged. It works via the otherwise-"waste" air that bleeds off the turbocharger.

JMartinko 11-20-06, 12:21 PM Don't forget with the 'flying car math', that most likely every household in America has several cars (don't know the exact figure, but it is likely much higher than one). There might be a 'revolt' if everyone is 'limited' to a single car per household.

Actually, reading the quote on the moller.com website, it says every car currently on the road...so the # is even higher. I wonder if they meant worldwide.
I doubt they meant that as a practical application, just as an example of how much more room there is in airspace as opposed to flatlander roads.

Should be sweet. Can't freaking wait.
Spoiler alert - Since the preview shows Peter dying, do you think that he comes back since he will be around Claire and get her healing powers? Do you think that this is how Peter gets the scar that Hiro referred to. Also, in a future episode the description says that the heroes have to deal with the DEVASTATING reprecutions of Claires homecoming and they have to come to terms with what happend. I wonder what the heck that means and if one of them actually dies for good (the creator said that he will definitely kill off a hero this season or next because in this kind of show he said he had to), he said the problem is trying to figure out which one because he, and the fans, like each one so much.
WilliamR,

I wouldn't exactly call that a spoiler, given that the only official information is provided by the preview trailer, and everything else is pure speculation based on the trailer and common knowledge of the show. Other than the fact that the scenario sounds entirely possible and stands a good chance of being true, I still wouldn't call it a spoiler...just my two cents...

I predicted a zillion pages back that Sylar would go after the wrong cheerleader. Another poster here thinks that Claire's dad is Sylar. If you watch tonight's ep closely, you'll notice he and Sylar never ran into each other, despite being in the same location.
Perhaps Sylar is an out-of-control part of him, and he needs Suggestion-Girl to stop himself. Anyways, another great ep....NBC is really pushing the envelope with the gore; Pete's wounds were absolutely gross....total bloodfest tonight .

That is true. There was a lot of blood, I guess we should expect the mothers of America to complain again that there wasn't a warning before the show started.
I am still amazed that NBC is going into another week with no repeats. That will be 10 or 11 new episodes in a row. But after next week we have to brace ourselves. the rerun period begins and we wait and wait until a new one. But maybe they have an unplanned extended break and will show the all original shows till the end of the season starting in feb. I could only hope. Other then Lost, Prison Break is doing the consecutive run 2 part seasons. Hopefully more shows will catch on. ER only had one repeat and is going on a winter break also.

They are running straight through, I saw it in another thread, there is going to be some small break, but they aren't going to have reruns on this show, I'll try to dig up the post I saw this in, but it's going to run straight through and I don't think there is going to be a big break between episodes. NBC also plans to air its freshman hit serialized drama, Heroes, straight through in originals, after only a short hiatus, beginning Jan. 22, according to Mitch Metcalf, executive vp, program planning and scheduling at NBC. The network has aired eight so far and will air three more in fourth quarter before bringing the series back in all first-run in January.

Lets hope that is true, But prison break is in an extended break right now until right after the 24 premiere. I am enjoying these first run marathon viewing much better than the traditional rerun schedule. A 7 week break is good enough for me, but the Jan 22nd restart gets the show to April 30th. Do you really think NBC will not run it's highest rated scripted show during May sweeps? Football #1 & Deal or No Deal #2 for now. Plus it is a week after the 24 premiere which makes my which to watch conundrum delayed for 1 week.
seldenpat, They want to get some viewers so they might show the pilot episode during the 7 week break. But keep an eye on the Scifi schedule because after next weeks new episode and the same week repeat on Friday, they will have that 7pm slot empty so they might just air repeats of the whole series to date.

Syler certainly seems to have a lot of abilities -- a finger that acts as a laser cutting tool, freeze drying victims, moving at incredible speed, superhuman strength, telekinesis, etc.
Did anyone else get the idea that perhaps Syler is able to take on the special abilities from those people he kills? Hence, if he were able to kill the cheerleader, he would become virtually invincible. If he were to kill radiation man, then he could potentially blow up cities. That would explain why he targets those with special abilities.

I got that impression...I also believe that Peter could use all of those as long as he knew what they were and how to use them. He has used 4 powers now...Flying, Immune to Time Shift, Seeing the Future, and Regeneration. He used two of those on his own...time shift and regeneration happened automatically. If he knew the power of those around him, he could know what powers he could have? The detective could help there. So many options...for example, if he was closer to Sylar and knew what Sylar could do he could do the same thing?
Also, I think that Sylar's telekenesis and "fingercutting" ability are the same...I could be totally wrong, but I think it's more along the lines of focusing and controlling molecules. Again, I'm probably wrong, but there was no visible beam or blade that cut the cheerleader.
Al Shing 11-21-06, 01:52 AM Have we ever seen Sylar do anything that couldn't be done with telekinesis? It's possible that's his one and only power.
He doesn't have a special way of identifying the mutants, because he missed Hiro and Peter, and was fooled by Jackie.

kucharsk 11-21-06, 04:50 AM Ah, NBC's hype machine goes into overdrive again.
We'll finally learn the meaning of "Save the cheerleader, save the world?"
Aside from the fact that Syler hasn't (yet) killed Clare, we don't know anything more regarding the meaning of the statement that we didn't last week…
petergaryr 11-21-06, 07:16 AM Class assignment: use as many Heroes as you like working together and come up with a scenario that would explain why saving the cheerleader would save the world. No need for spoilers since these would all be speculation. Here's mine:
Radiation Man is in NY and Sylar follows him. What Sylar doesn't know is that if he damages RM, it will cause a thermonuclear explosion. Nathan and Peter fly Claire and Jessica to NY to confront him.
Just as Sylar is about to make his incision on RM, Peter, Nathan, Claire and Jessica swoop down from above. Jessica sucker punches Sylar, but he recovers quickly and starts to remove her brain. Peter, now absorbing Claire's healing and Jessica's strength stops him by knocking him out. Nathan then flys Sylar to Washington and leaves him. He wakes up and eats the brains of several politicians----but nobody notices the difference.
Then how do you explain Claire's dad being in the school hallway, hearing Jackie scream and mistakenly thinking it was Claire, while Sylar was doing his thing?
He's not Sylar.
I was a bit let down by last night's episode. Peter meeting Claire wasn't exactly bringing "them all together to fulfill their destiny." Typical NBC I guess. I remember them playing that misleading preview game with all their previously popular series (although it's been a while for them I know). Why only a minute with Nathan and Hiro last night? And much like Walt on Lost, Michah is starting to bug me.
nashvillecat 11-21-06, 08:45 AM Without question, last night's episode was the most entertaining and most enlightening of this series so far. When Peter and Claire were in the gym and looking back at Sylar, I was at the edge of my seat and cheering! (Thinking..."It's just like the painting...!) How could jackie be mistaken for Claire here? Aren't the guys smart enough to know who they should be killing? I have to admit, the way jackie went down was absolutely shocking. Kinda of a bit unnerving for the younger audience perhaps. Seeing Claire and Peter meeting fopr the first time also have me the shivers. These two characters are the ones who will save the world! after all...
The one at the heart of all this is Hero. He goes back in time to save that girl, the smart one who remembers everything she reads. Doing this while leaving his partner in the background. (What's his partners fame here?)
Anyways, I just wanted to reflect a little on this show. Now, we have everone in the house watching, not just me ;)

p.s. Isn't there something sexy about a blonde (Nikki/Jessica) and a machine gun ?
tonybradley 11-21-06, 09:00 AM Out of all the people Sylar has killed so far, is the Cheerleader the First one that didn't have special abilities? I guess I'm confused as many of us thought he could 'Sense' those with the abilities, which is how he's found them all this time. ?Then how did he end up with the wrong cheerleader? If he didn't sense it, and know which cheerleader, how did he end up in that state, that town, and that school, then to kill the wrong one? I guess I'm not following this logic.
Other than my confusion on this, best show of the season!
madpoet 11-21-06, 09:05 AM A couple points...
1) Did the paintings ever ACTUALLY SHOW Claire dying? Because from what I remember, what happened was exactly what was painted. So did they actually change anything, or did they simply fulfill their destinies? I think the latter.
2) Sylar went down like a bitch. I really don't get why, unless it was a combo of Eden and the voodoo guy both working on him
3) Poor Peter... dude can't get a break. My assumption however is that this will bring him into contact with the mind reading cop and his partner.
4) Man... Jessica is one MEAN chick. I hope she didn't kill poor DL.
nashvillecat 11-21-06, 09:08 AM When DL aksed Micah about "Mom". Micah said Mom didn't know about Jessica. I thought Nikki did know Jessica? Like when they see each other in the mirror. What did Micah mean?
