petergaryr 11-29-06, 07:38 PM Unless he mistranslated it "Nathan wins" instead of "Nathan dies"
;-)
Or they re-show the scene and the newsprint changes like in the Back to the Future:
"Doc Brown Committed"
to
"Doc Brown Honored"
(or whatever the original text was)
If Hiro dies, I hope it's because he accidentally teleports to outer space. That last "oh sh*t" look on his face would be priceless. :)I'm suprised that he hasn't dematerialized inside a wall or a mountain or something. Remember the aversion Dr.McCoy had to the Transporter?:D
Hiro is supposed to be in Far East, not Texas. Would you go looking for him in a small town Texas diner?
Likewise, he didn't go for the kill for the second hero at the High School - again, as if he didn't realize it was someone with abnormal powers.
Was there anything to suggest he knew the were assembling in Texas?
It seems he was just on the Texas leg of the death by Sylar tour.He (Sylar) only knows what he knows from all the intel and research he stole from Papa Suresh. Upon self-discovery his actual power was absorbing the abilities of other mutants, he appearently found his misguided reason for living (like Elijah in Unbreakable).
There are probably plenty of others he's not yet aware of, though his victims are nearly all female to date.
Hiro can change the past. Future Hiro came to Peter and warned him to save the cheerleader - which happened - so future Hiro's past was changed. Present Hiro may have changed Charlie's fate - we don't know yet if Sylar caused her death in the revised timeline.
Who is going to die? If future Hiro can change someone's fate, as may have happened with Charlie and he has already seen Isaac killed by Sylar, he may very well have changed Isaac's fate in that he will still die but in a different way. I predict the death will belong to Isaac.
I think to keep Isaac around will become harder for the writers. His 'skill' has played its part in the story. Any other predictions he makes will just seem like "been there. Done that." to the viewers.
Assayer 11-30-06, 06:26 AM My prediction is that Sylar will escape, and the death will be related to his breakout. . . that is to say, it will probably be either Isaac, or suggestion girl who bites it.

IrmoGamecoq 11-30-06, 08:09 AM Could Linderman be Nikki/Jessica's father?
He was wealthy, so that's a possibility. But he just came across as too much of a screw-up in general to be someone that influential/powerful.
nuttyinnyc 11-30-06, 08:35 AM I'll tell you one thing, contract dispute or not, if a certain cheerleader or a Star Trek loving oriental gentleman bites it, I suspect fan protest will kill this show faster than Sylar can eat brains.
You need to be politically correct over here at AVS, There are no "oriental" people just oriental rugs. There are Asian people or (insert country of origin) people, Hiro is a Japanese. In real life he is an Asian/American. My chinese friend that I knew for years has pounded that fact into me so I thought it would be nice if we do not insult people. I mean rip them a part like you guys do sometime, but never insult his culture or origin. Let me give a big hello to all my Asian buddies out east. Hello buddies!

It is more about educating then PC. The is no place called "the Orient" like you have proudly made a point of. Read this and educate your self about the word then maybe you learn not to use such an obvious racial term. Just trying to make sure to some of out members out East that do use this site.

I always thought so as well, and absolutely no offense was even slightly intended.
Geographically, I am a Floridian from North America.
OTOH, racial and ethnic epithets used with malicious intent are never appropriate.

From Wiki:
"The Orient is a term traditionally used in Western culture to refer to the Near, Middle, and Far East."
So you made my point for me. Glad we agree. Oriental is acceptable. Thanks. And as pertergaryr said, it certainly wasn't used as a "Kramer" moment.

I didn't think he was insulting anyone. I have never read anything bad come from pertergaryr. I just wanted you guys to know there are people who look at it as an insult. Because of that we shouldn't say it. You should read on and you will see what it says, it is because of this line "The Orient is a term traditionally used in Western culture to refer to the Near, Middle, and Far East." why it is an insult here. Don't just stop when you see what you want to see. I just know how passionate my friends are so I wouldn't like anyone say it if I could help someone not say it.

We'll just leave it at that and move this thread back to topic.
Could Linderman be Nikki/Jessica's father?
He's too much of an ordinary loser I think.
Linderman is a mob boss and a multimillionaire. He wouldn't sweat a $2,000 laptop.
Also, Linderman pimped out Jessica/Niki (Nessika?) to Nathan (so he could blackmail him), so if he's really her dad he's a sicker puppy than we thought. Yuck.
As the article informs the connotation of the word differs by location. This should be enough to show how silly some of these issues are. If your friends are bothered by the word rather than the speaker's meaning the problem is theirs (in my opinion). We have gone way to far with this pc thing. I don't care what words people use since I am pretty good at deciphering their meaning. I now return my attention to time bounders and cheerleaders.
Linderman is a mob boss and a multimillionaire. He wouldn't sweat a $2,000 laptop.
When we were young my brother and I would open up any device we got our hands on (to learn how it worked). This would include electrical/electronic toys the day we got them. In time our parents got used to it. Heck, most of the time we even put them back together.
Bluto17 11-30-06, 09:54 AM Hiro can change the past. Future Hiro came to Peter and warned him to save the cheerleader - which happened - so future Hiro's past was changed. Present Hiro may have changed Charlie's fate - we don't know yet if Sylar caused her death in the revised timeline.
Didn't they again show Charlie dying at the end of the most recent episode, with the blood dripping down her forehead? I think they showed that after Hiro mentioned that he had failed to save her. When they reshowed the snippet Charlie's death scene, I thought that was to re-enforce that Sylar had indeed killed Charlie in the current timeline.
WilliamR 11-30-06, 09:55 AM He (Sylar) only knows what he knows from all the intel and research he stole from Papa Suresh. Upon self-discovery his actual power was absorbing the abilities of other mutants, he appearently found his misguided reason for living (like Elijah in Unbreakable).

Actually no it isn't, his real power is listed below:
In a detailed, and rather long preview out on the web, Sylar is shown talking and he says his ability is to know how things "tick", he can analyze the brain of a person to know what gives them that ability and change his brain to match.
WilliamR 11-30-06, 10:02 AM HUGE spoilers below. WOW! Some seriously cool stuff.
There is a preivew of the upcoming season, that is rather long, that was posted on an international web site, and it has some major spoilers in it. This one is huge and sounds so cool!! Peter gets in contact with Ted (the nuclear guy) and gets his powers. A bunch of heroes are in New York (Nikki, Micha, DL (so I guess he doesn't die), Matt, Isaac, and Hiro) and they ALL are trying to run away from Peter as he is starting to glow and explode. Isaac is holding Simone back. Hiro is then shown saying, "How do you stop an exploding man!" :D Leave it to Hiro to crack me up! Guess we were right, the explosion in New York was the nuclear guy, but the twist is it might be Peter the explodes and or dies.
Edan and Sylar are in a battle and Edan has a huge gun pointed to her head, Sylar has his hands on her neck trying to kill her. It is believed that she is trying to kill herself before Sylar can take her power by blowing her head open.
The Haitian guy grabs Claire and covers her mouth and he says, "Can you keep a secret?"
nuttyinnyc 11-30-06, 10:41 AM Didn't they again show Charlie dying at the end of the most recent episode, with the blood dripping down her forehead? I think they showed that after Hiro mentioned that he had failed to save her. Yeah, she might still be dead but he has changed the past by going into the train and making Peter save the girl. Without Peter there with her she would have died. This is what we all have been talking about, by Hiro going back 6 months and getting into Charlie's life he change the time line leading up to a different line of events. They only showed her at the end to make it seem like "Hiro's attempt at changing the past is a failure" But that doesn't mean he didn't. I think they will go deeper into what happened to him. Remember he said he made a couple of stops before making it back.
Steve Scherrer 11-30-06, 11:08 AM If a term is derogatory to people, no matter what my intent, that is a good enough reason for me not to use it. I mean, how does it hurt me if I have to adjust my speech so as not to insult someone? I am big enough to do that...
Anyway, back on topic. I agree about Charlie in the diner. The episode clearly showed Charlie dripping with blood, and they showed it after Hiro came back, meaning that Sylar still got her. But my thought is--what if Hiro changed the past and Sylar got to her a little earlier than in originally? The shrine looked liked it had been there for a while...
Of course, this sets up a whole bunch of paradoxes with Ando--he shouldn't then remember the old timeline, right? Achhh. After watching tons of Star Trek, you'd think I'd have this figured out. I think the bottom line is that we can't think too hard about the time line things, and just accept them as presented by the writers...
Roger Lococco 11-30-06, 11:32 AM just my 2 cents about the "asian/oriental thing"-despite my username(William Russ from Wiseguy, lol),I'm Chinese, generally asians find the term ''oriental" somewhat irritating, but not derogatory, since most people that use that term are just not aware.
The episode clearly showed Charlie dripping with blood, and they showed it after Hiro came back, meaning that Sylar still got her.
It showed a bunch of vignettes while the "closing narration" was being spoken. Nothing there indicated Sylar still got her or not, imo. The picture of Hiro was still on the wall when he returned. That is a change so I don't know why some of you keep saying nothing was changed. Like so many times in the past with this type of story we are told "you can't change the past" when in fact the moral is more exactly you can't change a big thing. Whether or not that is the message the authors want to send I do not know but clearly things in the past have been changed. At a bare minimum we have seen two time lines. As for Ando, I look at it that he is in the "sphere of influence" of Hiro's power and so he remembers the old timeline otherwise why did he know why Hiro had been gone.
Roger Lococco 11-30-06, 11:38 AM about Charlie-I always wondered if that was blood that dripped down,it looked very, very dark, almost like black paint-I wonder if they had to make it so dark to get by the censors?

I hate that term "westerns". I find it derogatory. I was born in the United States so don't insult me by assuming we are an appendage to the world. Please stop using this term.
You think that is silly (I hope) but I am old enough to have had different groups of people go through 3 "name" changes and I don't really intend on keep up any longer. People will just have to accept me, words and all. Don't we have enough reason to dislike some people based on their actions? Do we really need to focus on choice of words also?

I have to agree here...PC has gone too far. Groups are tripping all over one another to find the correct 'label' for themselves, but the labels keep changing.
Just using my own ethnicity as an example, in my lifetime the labels have gone from:
Mexican
Chicano
Latino
Hispanic
Mexican-American
It's nuts...I'm an American dammit, so stop labeling me. I'm proud of my heritage, but it's only a part of who I am, not the sum total.
Some people still use the term Oriental, because that region was once commonly referred to as the Orient. It's referred to more often as Asia now, so the label has changed to Asians. 30 years from now it might be called something completely different. The use of Orient says more about one's age than it does about one's racial beliefs.

I agree. That snippet with the closing naration was a flashback to the previous episode. They haven't even shown us conclusively that Charlie is dead, have they? If so, I missed it completely. She is just not there -- missing, presumed dead. Maybe she did go to Japan after all.

We don't even know what Charlie saw when hiro jumped away just before they kissed. I hope her last thought about hiro was not that he ditched her. Hiro wanted to save Charlie and Charlie said he did (shades of Star Wars) so Hiro is just plain wrong when he says he failed.

She did say she was suffering from a brain condition that could end her life at anytime. My guess is that she died from this condition and was not killed by Sylar. So, he succeeded in saving her from Sylar but could not prevent her death from natural causes.

Honestly, I have no idea what to call anybody anymore. So, I tend to stick with "human".
Honestly, if you're not born in Mexico, you're not a Mexican. If you're not born in Spain, your not Hispanic. If you're born in America, you're not Mexican-American. If you're not born in Africa, how is it possible to be African-American? I just don't understand!
By the way, I'm a white dude and my grandparent's parents were from Hungary. Does that make me a Hungarian-American? Maybe a hungry American :), but more exactly just an American.

I've thought about that one too, I'm not sure how she died, but I also wondered if she didn't die from her existing condition. I don't know anything about her condition, but I'm sure the writers could have used their artistic license to have it happen like that if they pleased.

Yeah, I'm leaning that way too because after Hiro left, when Ando was standing there, they showed the shrine to her, with all those pictures, a picture of her with a candle burning etc. Its almost like, yeah, she died, but wouldn't it have to of been a little while bag to get that all setup, not in a few hours after her bloody body was removed from the back room and the cops are investigating? Its like they setup to honor her, and its been there awhile.
Honestly, I have no idea what to call anybody anymore. So, I tend to stick with "human".
Um, isn't the correct term "Terran"? (Or, maybe "Sol 3-ian")

Hey, I'm Hungarian also! I prefer the term "Hungry-American"... :D
And, I'm glad you called yourself a "white" dude and not a "Caucasian." Caucasians are people from the Caucasus Mountain region between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea...

In 30 years it will be called USA EAST after we take over the world!!! Dam greedy Americans we just want take over, oops I mean show the democratic way to everyone. !!! HA HA HA HA HA!!
Let's get just be kind to everyone here and get back on topic. I still believe she is not dead and if and when the time line catches up to Hiro or he teleports again she will be alive.
God bless america!! Can I still say that?
Hungry american, that is good!!

Perhaps when referring to racial origins, but in the Philippines the terms Oriental and Occidental refer to eastern and western (respectively), just as Norte and Sur refer to northern and southern (respectively). Note some of the names of provinces: Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Camerines Norte, Camerines Sur.
As far as the U.S. government is concerned, I believe 'hispanic' refers to those of spanish ancestery (which is a very broad brush).
Back on subject, for Ando I would think that the second Hiro left the police disappeared and he had a differrent waitress. But I would think that he would still remember what happened before Hiro left, since he had not lived through what had changed in the diner.
She did say she was suffering from a brain condition that could end her life at anytime. My guess is that she died from this condition and was not killed by Sylar. So, he succeeded in saving her from Sylar but could not prevent her death from natural causes.
This is my guess also. Evidence being the shrine as another poster also noticed. It was all setup as if it had been there for days. This brings up questions, of course. First it means Charlie died earlier because of Hiro's actions in the past. If true possible reasons could be Charlie lived life a bit more with Hiro around and the extra running around and having a good time took its toll. Another thought (a less happy one) is that when Hiro disappeared Charlie got depressed and sat around doing nothing. Neither of these seem like they are "story oriented" (not oriental:)) in the end but they are all I came up with. I just think Hiro will need to understand Charlie "felt" saved by him before he can get his mojo back.
I think Charlie died of the aneurysm too. That's why there's the 'shrine' to her. It has been there for days, if not longer.
Now, CAN THE STUPID DISCUSSION OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS STOP ?? PLEASE ??

"Stupid", Shouldn't you say "silly" I don't think stupid is the correct PC word. We Wouldn't want to use the wrong to insult someones PC beleifs.
I'm just playing with you Hall, don't get angry at us we still love HEROES
Like I said earlier we do not know if that is still her shrine. They never focused on the shrine when Hiro returned. It could be for somebody else.
However, I could be convinced that she may have died earlier because of the Aneurysm Charlie was ready to open up to Hiro and tell him her most darkest secrets and Hiro disappeared, he just vanished when he was going to get some heat. She had nothing to live for after that she had broken heart which deteriorate her condition(she lost her good will).

I think you can say it is definitely a shrine. All the pictures on the wall where with her or about her. There was a candle burning next to a single framed picture of her and no one else but her in the framed picture. I doubt it could be to someone else, you wouldn't put your frame picture of yourself there, you put the focus on the person who died. Everything else was stuck on the wall above her framed picture.

Thank you. Post of the day!
I think, though, that there's more to Hiro and Charlie's story than they actually showed us. When he returned, Hiro said something to Ando about going "back and forth" but that he couldn't save her. That suggested to me that he might have gone back several times but that nothing he did changed the outcome. Except... that contradicts the fact that Hiro seems to have lost his powers (though probably only temporarily) after popping back up in Tokyo.
I agree that the shrine suggests that Charlie died sometime earlier. No way was that put up in the day(s) following her murder by Sylar. And yet the "flashback" shot at the end, over the narration, would suggest that Sylar killed her in this timeline as well. Otherwise I would consider it a "cheat" on the part of the writers (though i wouldn't really blame them for that either).
Hiro said that he couldn't save her, so we have to take his word for it that she's dead, but I do hope that she got on the plane because Charlie's a lovely character and I'd hate to not see her anymore. The show hints at several different possibilities - and keeps us guessing! - but for sanity's sake it's probably not a good idea to analyze such fantasy too closely.

Only asians that might be classified as oriental find the term irritating, not all asians.
I am born and raised here, but of Indian decent, yet some people foolishly say I'm not of "Asian" decent.
I'm not offended as an Indian, I'm offended as a member of the human race that people would warp geography to somehow say that Asia is only Japan, China, and the Koreas and thus anyone whose decent is from another part of Asia is not somehow asian.
P.S. My only point is if we are going to bring up the asian/oriental thing, I am just pointing out that Hiro is just as Asian as Mohinder.
pappy97 11-30-06, 06:14 PM I think Charlie died of the aneurysm too. That's why there's the 'shrine' to her. It has been there for days, if not longer.
Yes, but shrine's exist for other reasons too. When I first saw that, I thought "Hiro probably saved her and took her away somewhere, and she's missing. That's why they put up a shrine for her."
I think it was filmed intentionally vague as to whether Charlie died from the aneurysm or Sylar. They did leave the shot in of her going glassy-eyed with some blood starting to run down her face at the end, but they don't ever say how she died, or show her missing the top of her head. Granted, that's one hell of an aneurysm to cause her to bleed out her forehead.
On an off-topic note, as someone of East Indian descent, I find the term Asian somewhat offensive. India contains about 1/4 of the population of Asia, but they are not included in what people now commonly think of as "Asian." It also excludes the huge land mass of Russia. Oriental seems a more fitting term, since it doesn't co-opt an entire continent to describe only a portion of it.
Edit: Looks like Pappy beat me to the point.

Exactly. I am offended that many people use the term "Asian" but don't refer to all peoples of Asia in that term.
Everyone would agree that an Italian is a European, and thus an Indian is an Asian.
For that matter, Israeli's are just as Asian as Chinese. In fact, Israel competes in the Asiatic Games.
I've also seen people of Japanese decent have the audacity to call filipino's "Pacific Islanders" and not Asian. What is funny about that is 1.) The Phillipines, although not part of the land mass Asia, is considered a part of Asia
2.) If filipinos are pacific islanders, then so are Japanese, unless the Japanese all of a sudden think that Japan is not a set of islands in the Pacific Ocean.
If we are going to use geographical terms to represent people, we need to be accurate, that's all. Thanks for the backup Brian.
I will admit that geography is a kind of hobby for me but even so I am amazed at how geographically illiterate most people are. I am not sure most people could even name the planet some countries are on least wise which continent. It is very sad to me. I bet Hiro would know!
petergaryr 11-30-06, 06:45 PM I think, though, that there's more to Hiro and Charlie's story than they actually showed us.
In light of the discussion, I re-watched the episode again today, especially paying attention to the ending.
I believe Charlie is dead, and Sylar eventually killed her. The montage at the end was all about events from past episodes. I agree that Hiro probably tried to jump both back and forth, but couldn't "save" her. To me that is the loaded word. Charlie dying from a blood clot would not be something Hiro personally could prevent.
However, as a previous poster mentioned, all we saw was the blood. I suppose an aneurysm could do that, but bursting through the skull???
Probably Hiro did change the timeline somehow, but the outcome was always the same.
DeathRay 11-30-06, 06:49 PM Why are asia and europe separate continents anyway? Looks like one land mass to me. If asia is allowed to boot europe out of their continent then surely we can get rid of the canadians.

this thread has evolved. it has recently discovered a super ability -- the power to irritate, offend, confuse, belittle, and go way, way, way off topic. the mods may be able to go back in time and start deleting before this thread manages to eat our brains!!!

Deep down, I believe if it were possible for one to go back in time in an attempt to improve their quality of life, the current timeline would be screwed-up even worse when they returned. Though theoretical, I'm personally glad time-travel isn't practical.

Even though the concept of time travel belongs more to the sci-fi/fantasy realm than reality, I love those type of stories. I think all of us have some experiences we wish we could take back and to me that is the subconscious appeal.
But, as you say, the ripple effect (I avoid Butterfly Effect for fear of copywrite infringement; studios are SO sensitive these days) would create paradoxes that could not be resolved.
Still, after re-watching the last episode, though Hiro didn't change the untimate outcome, he did make a friend who fell in love with him and he did make her final days more pleasant. What a nice thought.

And if he did change the manner of her death (which we don't really know for sure yet) he deprived Sylar of her ability which is also nice.

I am surprised no one in this thread (that I am aware of) has brought up the 2004(?) film PRIMER.
Primer has a different take on time-travel and if you are into time-travel, you should check it out then afterwards google it for more info. One Primer geek created a chart of the time travelling/timelines in the movie and it is insane.
Definitely worth a viewing, especially considering it was made for a tiny budget, but the script carries the day (And don't let the first half hour fool you. The first half hour is boring, but the rest is crazy).

Hiro thinks she is dead, but she could still be alive...just missing, which would explain the shrine to Charlie in the diner.

Great movie, would have been nice to see what they could have done with a little bit bigger budget, audio, for one thing, is terrible, but the film itself very interesting.
But, as you say, the ripple effect (I avoid Butterfly Effect for fear of copywrite infringement; studios are SO sensitive these days) would create paradoxes that could not be resolved. That's a(n odd, but) relevent statement; I've been working on putting some story-ideas to paper, and BE's one of a few movies I intentionally avoided. It looked dangerously close to one of my own proposals, but after seeing it at a relative's, it's nothing like I thought it would be. Fantastic, and disturbing movie.
Exactly. I am offended that many people use the term "Asian" but don't refer to all peoples of Asia in that term.
Everyone would agree that an Italian is a European, and thus an Indian is an Asian.

Great movie...VERY low budget (financed with credit cards, getting more common these days) and filmed here in Dallas.
Available on Netflix for those that love Time Travel stories.

I've had the same thing happen...I wouldn't worry about it too much. The movies/stories that make it are the ones that tell a great story and have characters you care about. If you have a story to tell, write it. EVERYTHING's been done before, so don't let that stop you.
nuttyinnyc 12-01-06, 10:59 AM Yes, but shrine's exist for other reasons too. When I first saw that, I thought "Hiro probably saved her and took her away somewhere, and she's missing. That's why they put up a shrine for her."
I like that, That's what I was pointing out earlier that we don't know if the shrine is for her death. Hiro obviously didn't save her because he said so. But she could have just disappeared when Hiro did his disappearing act and now people are looking for her. In her memory the shirne is there until she is found.

When Rezzy asked me if I had seen the new Time Machine, I gave that link to the Time Machine thread. If it didn't take you there, you must be in that OTHER timeline that HIRO messed around with where Sam Beckett jumped into Sylar just before he killed Charlie. Having saved her, Sam immediately jumped into Captain Archer on the Enterprise and was last seen heading toward the Borg.
Charlie and Hiro on the other hand are currently living under an assumed name in Burbank, California which is as far from Asia, the Orient, the Pacific Islands, India and any place even remotely ressembling them. :D

Oh yes, spontaneous genetic mutations that came to Earthlings one day giving them powers and abilities beyond that of ordinary people. They are faster than a speeding bullet (Hiro bending time and space), can leap tall buildings in a single bound (Nathan), bend steel in their bare hands (Nikki) and who, disguised as a mild mannered cab driver, fights a never ending battle for truth, justice and the (National, not American) Broadcasting way to win viewers.

Critic’s Notebook
The hypnotic power of "Heroes"
By Hal Boedeker Orlando Sentinel Television Critic his TV Guy blog Dec 1, 2006
"How do you stop an exploding man?"
Good question. And a good reason to tune in "Heroes" Monday.
This addictive show had fans chanting, "Save the cheerleader, save the world." That cheerleader, Claire (Hayden Panettiere), remains in great jeopardy.
Monday's gripping episode supplies plot twists and harrowing developments. Fans will want to savor each one because the series won't offer a new episode until mid-January. (The show airs at 9 p.m. on WESH-Channel 2.)
Why has "Heroes" become the biggest hit among new series this fall? The show knows how to dangle the good stuff and keep viewers intrigued. ("Lost" could learn a few things from this show.) Add to that good acting, strong characters and nifty special effects, and you have that hit that NBC has needed for years.
These heroes, everyday people with extraordinary powers, are slowly learning about one another. Claire finds a kinship with Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia), who saved her in the last episode. "You're totally my hero," she tells him.
But Peter and several other heroes are suffering. Stripper Niki Sanders (Ali Larter) is feeling especially conflicted. Cop Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg) is combatting headaches, which crimp his ability to read minds.
Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) remains the exuberant hero. Isaac Mendez (Santiago Carbera) continues to paint his prophetic visions.
And Claire's dad (Jack Coleman) remains a major mystery: concerned one minute, dastardly the next.
You have to pay attention every moment in "Heroes." And your patience is rewarded. Great show!

Bingo. In the 1952 short story by Ray Bradbury, "A Sound of Thunder", the killing of a butterfly during the time of dinosaurs causes the future to change in subtle but meaningful ways.
I thought butterfly effect had more to do with this
"The phrase refers to the idea that a butterfly's wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that ultimately cause a tornado to appear (or, for that matter, prevent a tornado from appearing). The flapping wing represents a small change in the initial condition of the system, which causes a chain of events leading to large-scale phenomena. Had the butterfly not flapped its wings, the trajectory of the system might have been vastly different."

Yeah, typically that's what the term refers to. But, with the Ashton Kucher film a few years ago, it seems to have been co-opted as a more colorful version of "ripple effect" too.
Btw, "Butterfly Effect" ain't a half-bad flick. Pretty disturbing though. I second (third?) the nomination for "Primer" too.

Actually, that is closer to the accepted definition of the butterfly effect. I was referencing the Ray Bradbury time travel story since in that one it was the killing of one butterfly back on the dino hunt that supposedly caused the change in the present timeline.
Hopefully Hiro didn't step on any butterflys during his trips to the past/future.

I saw a movie on cable recently about this. It was just plain aweful. They go back in time to the Jurassic period through some machine and someone steps on a butterfly. When they return things start changing in waves.

Hi everyone. I am a newcomer to this thread (and the show too, having watched only the last two episodes. What a roller coaster ride trying to get caught up!)
When Hiro popped back in Tokyo, I think he was asked something like; "I thought you were on vacation in America?" So the real question becomes when in time did he pop back to Tokyo? My original thought was that he returned to the present in the wrong location. It would have taken him a while to return to the USA (especially if he did something else before returning to the diner). Ando would have returned to the diner every day awaiting the return of his friend. The shrine might have been put up after the police left, days after Charlie was killed by Sylar.

Noah Gray-Cabey was the Grand Marshall of the San Jose Holiday Parade. And according to this link (http://www.sanjoseholidayparade.com/grand_marshal.shtml), he's kind of a genius.
Ten-year-old Noah Gray-Cabey joins NBC's new ensemble drama series "Heroes" as Micah Sanders, a young genius. "Heroes" follows the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities.
Gray-Cabey was a series regular on ABC's "My Wife & Kids," playing the precocious Franklin. Recently, he guest-starred on "Grey's Anatomy" and "Ghost Whisperer." He also has a supporting role in M. Night Shyamalan's highly anticipated film "Lady in the Water."
A trained classical pianist by the age of three, Gray-Cabey is the youngest person ever to perform at the Sydney Opera Hall. In 2001, he participated in fundraising concerts to benefit AIDS orphanages. After the events of September 11th, Gray-Cabey, with the help of his father, Shawn, and his mother, Whitney, organized a concert in Portland, Maine, to raise money for Afghan children who were displaced by the Taliban's civil unrest. As a result, "48 Hours" did a piece on Gray-Cabey's altruistic nature and piano talents. Soon after, he was featured on "The Tonight Show," "Dateline," "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and "Good Morning America," which led to his being cast on "My Wife & Kids."
Gray-Cabey is determined to use his talents to make a real influence in the world. He has formed a foundation called "Action in Music" that broadens the horizons of inner city children by bringing them to Africa to visit AIDS victims. His birthday is November 16.
'Heroes' falls into line with 'fall finale'
By Gary Levin, USA Today
NBC's Heroes bids farewell (Monday) night as it takes a seven-week break in the latest example of TV's "fall finale" phenomenon.
Most shows air repeats during Christmas and New Year's weeks, but several serialized dramas last week started much longer winter vacations: Prison Break, like Heroes, won't return until Jan. 22; Veronica Mars is vacationing until Jan. 23; Lost is off the island until Feb. 7; and Jericho's next new episode airs Feb. 21.
The reason? These shows perform poorly in repeats, yet networks need to stretch out the usual 22 episodes over a 35-week season. So rather than stop and start series, they're opting just to take them off altogether.
"This is just what we found to be the optimal way," says CBS and CW scheduling chief Kelly Kahl. "People don't want to watch repeats of these shows. I have to give props to Fox and 24," which airs from January to May with non-stop new episodes. "That's a great way to run a show."
But most can't afford to sit out fall entirely.
Instead, CBS' Jericho split its season into 11-episode halves and will resume after a recap show Feb. 14. ABC's Lost is resting, replaced by low-rated Day Break, in order to air all originals, 24-style, from February to May. Veronica Mars wrapped up the first of two multi-episode mysteries last week and will take another break in March, says CW president Dawn Ostroff, with four stand-alone episodes likely for May.
Other producers are responding to the scheduling shifts by crafting story lines around them. Lost's six fall episodes were designed as a self-contained look at the mysterious Others inhabiting the island. And tonight's episode of Heroes (9 ET/PT) marks the end of the drama's "Save the cheerleader, save the world" plotline. Seven consecutive episodes that start in January — and five more due in late April — will explore two more story arcs.
In heralding their departures, "we're being honest with the audience; we're not going to be snowing people," says NBC scheduling chief Mitch Metcalf, noting that tonight's midseason finale will include a mention of the delayed return date.
And some fall finales, with their big cliffhangers, provide ratings bounces: Veronica had its second-most-watched episode ever last week, and Prison Break tied its season high.
The challenge for networks is maintaining interest in the dramas during the long break.
Jericho has a new website, whodroppedthebomb.com, a "fan community" with commentaries and clips from upcoming episodes; free repeats are offered at cbs.com. NBC will continue posting Heroes' companion graphic novel online and will repeat the five most recent episodes Jan. 1 and 8 and air others on Sci Fi Channel.

Marcus Carr 12-04-06, 09:14 AM Families Flock to Harsh Heroes
By Staff -- Broadcasting & Cable, 12/3/2006 11:53:00 PM
So, how did Tim Kring, creator of NBC’s Heroes, end up on a panel at last week’s Family Friendly Programming Forum in Beverly Hills? “Save the cheerleader, save the world,” the cryptic imperative that drives the series’ titular heroes, does have a wholesome ring to it. But somebody must’ve missed the episode in which the cheerleader mangles her hand in a garbage disposal.
Indeed, despite its often brutal violence—and the fact that its heroes include an Internet porn queen and an artist who shoots dope to paint apocalyptic prophecies—Heroes is a breakout hit with fans of all ages.
The show, which airs at 9 p.m. ET, is the No. 10 primetime network series among kids 2-11, and NBC’s second-highest-rated series in the demo, behind Deal or No Deal. Among kids 12-17, it ranks sixth overall and No. 1 for NBC.
“We were trying to get a hip audience of twentysomethings and college kids, but I have been taken by surprise by how many families watch the show,” Kring confessed at the forum.
The Parents Television Council, which gave the show its dreaded “red light” rating, will be glad to know that Kring and crew are rethinking the show’s violence, given the young audience.
“I feel like we have to back off some of the very graphic stuff,” Kring acknowledged.
Still, he added, the show’s comic-book spirit demands that characters take a beating from time to time: “The genre calls for a certain amount of violence. The cheerleader sticking her hand in a garbage disposal still gets an ‘Ooh!’ in a good way.”

Noooooo. Make the show what it is and let the parents decide what their kids can watch. This show requires the bloody violence. Don't change it. You've got a good thing going. Why change things now?
Please, do not kiddify this show!

Mr. Burns is a behind the camera guy now. He directs good movies, but I guess he just acts in the few that still come his way good or bad. Remember most movies look good on paper. Especially the scripts a quality actor like Ed Burns would get.
petergaryr 12-04-06, 11:54 AM Noooooo. Make the show what it is and let the parents decide what their kids can watch. This show requires the bloody violence. Don't change it. You've got a good thing going. Why change things now?
Typical. NBC finally gets a hit and decides to modify some of what was making it a hit in the first place. They have plenty of other shows to "fix". Leave the one that isn't broken alone!!!
nuttyinnyc 12-04-06, 12:14 PM And tonight's episode of Heroes (9 ET/PT) marks the end of the drama's "Save the cheerleader, save the world" plotline. Seven consecutive episodes that start in January — and five more due in late April — will explore two more story arcs.
This is good but it does suck that they were sneaky about the spring break. Initially they made it seem like they would be doing a 2 part season(11ep - 13ep). When they are really going to have 3 part season. It appears to be another 6 week break from March 12th to April 16th. I think this will be the restart date so NBC will be able to take advantage of the sweeps period. They came in second for the ad group during November so they definitely want their top rated show in the desired Ad group to be broadcasting new episodes during the last 2 sweeps periods.
nuttyinnyc 12-04-06, 12:39 PM The Parents Television Council, which gave the show its dreaded “red light” rating, will be glad to know that Kring and crew are rethinking the show’s violence, given the young audience.
“I feel like we have to back off some of the very graphic stuff,” Kring acknowledged.
This is the begining of the end, if you remember there was someone who complained about the gore and violence of the show very early on this thread. They felt there should be a violence warning at the begining of each show. But now here comes the Parents of america, that have their kids up to 10pm (9pm central) in the first place. Probably freely let their kids buy video games. Now they will want the director to deviate from his original vision of the show. I say BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a comic book show people. Please! Why can't people understand that kids of today are much more mature and see a lot worse things then what is broadcast on a fictional TV show. Are you going to tell me all these parents block "You tube!" "Local News" or any comedy that would have more sexual content then the violence that this show has. Sorry to Vent people but I hate it when the first thing they do is "complain about the show" before doing the right thing and "turn it off" or "change the channel" Their kids will end up watching it anyway either at school the next day from the kid that has the show uploaded on their Ipod or on NBC.com when mom and dad think they are doing homework.

Come on Pete, you really can't blame NBC on this one. This is the creator thinking of making the changes. He should have never went to the "family friendly programing Forum". These people are just as passionate as people over here at AVS and can make anyone feel bad or make them think they are doing something wrong. He thought his show would be a more adult audiance, but unfortunately he has a high rating with younger teens also. I think NBC position which they have told people all the time with this show and shows like this. If it is not on the family hr on the East or west coast we will not make the producers change the content of their shows.
I liked what Al Roker said recently: "Save the Cheerleader, Save the Network".
Fox's Family Guy promo of "Save the baby, Save the Planet" was a funny spoof.

Anybody with half a brain and an ounce of logic and/or common sense would realize that if your "adult oriented" show is drawing a high percentage of teens/young adults - perhaps the show isn't as adult oriented as you perceived it to be.
Only an imbecile would interpret an unexpectedly high viewership among a particular demographic (any demographic) as a signal that changes or tweaks are in order.
---> unless you are pulling in the "wrong" demographic and losing your target demo - but that's not the case here. They are drawing a wider audience than expected.

I know, but it is his words(the Creator) that he was considering to tone it down. That is the saddest part of them all. He is not getting censored from the TV lords he should leave it alone.
I don't think "Only an imbecile" is the best way to describe the creator of Heroes.
CPanther95 12-04-06, 02:02 PM I only quoted you only because you had a nice one sentence summary of what I wanted to respond to. My comments were directed at Kring - and only if he follows through with meddling with what has been, up to this point, one of the best shows on TV.
I was one of the early complainers about the violence, namely the amount in the second episode, where there was several heads with brains removed, buckets of blood on floors, walls, everywhere. I know everyone here wanted to see the waitress' brainless head shown in detail a couple episodes back, but I don't think the show was hurt not seeing the gore in detail. That said, I'm surprised that parents are letting small children watch this show, as even the tamest episode is very inappropriate for the pre-teen crowd.

You are 100% correct. The parents have time to complain, but they let their children watch anyway.. How do you let a pre-teen watch? In this day and age of VCR's, DVR's & Tivo's you deffinetley have a good enough chance to preview a show before your child sees it. If, as a parent, one has read any comic books you should already know that these programs would come would some violence, sexuality and gore.
I can honestly said, I was a little shocked by the gore, but unlike you I welcomed it. But I don't think showing charlie's brains all over the place was necessary either. We all knew at that point what has happened with the little blood they showed. No more was needed.
ckenisell 12-04-06, 02:46 PM Sure, they need to take a look at the demographic watching the show, but did they ever stop to think of WHY everybody is watching the show? Perhaps the gore and violence is perfectly acceptable to some. It just doesn't make any sense to ME that they would take a working formula and change it.
I don't really care much if they lessen the gore or increase the gore and I don't think it has much to do with the viewership of the show. It's a show with a great story line and keeps a pace up. I think the gore is a very small part of the draw.
petergaryr 12-04-06, 04:06 PM Heroes isn't a reality show. In my opinion, it merely uses "cartoon violence". The same parents who are complaining about what is shown on TV should look at what their kids are reading in comic books and in Anime, let alone video games.
That said, many homes still have a VCR, if not a DVR. Record the show, then watch it. Knowing your kids' sensibilities, know where the "fast forward" parts are. Then watch it with them. Or maybe that would require too much effort on the parent's part.
There's nothing wrong with a parent making viewing choices for their children until that child is old enough to make informed choices on his/her own. I'm not sure it is reasonable to require shows be reduced to the lowest common denominator of acceptability.
hongcho 12-04-06, 05:01 PM Maybe, they should move it to SciFi permanantly...
Hong.
nuttyinnyc 12-04-06, 05:21 PM Maybe, they should move it to SciFi permanantly...
Hong.
Bad Hong, bad!!! Put out your hand so I can slap it. We want it on NBC so it can continue being shown in HD. If it goes on Scifi we would have to wait a year for it to be shown on Universal HD. That would only happen if it is an NBC produced show, which I think it is.
Not only that Scifi already has had it's budget problems in the past. This cast is getting bigger and bigger every episode do we think it can afford another high budget production.
Heroes comes on at 9 p.m. in my neck of the woods; small kids should be in bed by then, anyway. Anyhow, I wouldn't mind a few reruns. That'd give me a chance to record (in HD) some eps I missed.
CPanther95 12-04-06, 05:50 PM That's exactly how they should utilize UHD. A couple of Heroes marathons, and a regular timeslot during the hiatus for people to catch up.
That's exactly how they should utilize UHD. A couple of Heroes marathons, and a regular timeslot during the hiatus for people to catch up.
I don't agree showing the episodes over on NBC during the "off season" is a problem. They just need to show them in order and show them all.
CPanther95 12-04-06, 06:14 PM I agree, a reboot on NBC from start to finish would be nice - the problem is with the ratings, and that's why NBC won't do it.
Yeah but where are they getting their assumption from? I think heroes is a different animal than other shows and would do well in the rerun. But what do I know, I still don't get why people watch all the reality shows so I may be off base.
Maybe, they should move it to SciFi permanantly...
Hong.
No, no, no... A broadcast network having such a rare success with a series with a definite science fiction bent, especially in light of last season's failed attempts at science fiction, is not something to mess with. Heroes is a major hit, keeping in mind especially that a cable network hit show is really nothing compared to a broadcast network hit show. Heroes is accomplishing what many were hoping shows like Invasion and Threshold would do, but did not. It is not only surviving, but it is flourishing... on network television! This is indeed rare.
And of course as nuttyinnyc mentioned, it wouldn't be in HD!
petergaryr 12-04-06, 06:57 PM Yeah but where are they getting their assumption from? I think heroes is a different animal than other shows and would do well in the rerun. But what do I know, I still don't get why people watch all the reality shows so I may be off base.
It is still a serial, and that is the problem. The "regular" viewers tend not to watch the reruns. The only hope of doing well in the ratings would be to attract a new audience, then show the episodes without interruption in the correct order.
It will be interesting to see how they handle the DVD release. If they quickly release a Season 1.0 before Season 1.2 they could probably get some revenue, plus get people up to speed. Not that money has anything to do with decisions.
CPanther95 12-04-06, 07:08 PM They could market the rerun season like they do DVD sets. Promise a couple minutes of additional footage in each episode, additional clues, etc. Promote the "do-over" season just like they did the original. Most importantly, play all episodes, in order - even if it is in two hour blocks in the off-season.
Too late now, but maybe next season.
Mike4HDTV 12-04-06, 10:05 PM Great episode tonight. The Haitian speaks.
I really think Hiro needs to find a sword soon if he is going to go to Jurassic Park.
Another great ep. The 'Hannibal' thing they did with Sylar was interesting, though short-lived. We pretty much already knew he'd escape because of Isaac's future demise.
It would appear HRG's gonna 'neuralize' the whole population. And I was wondering how anyone knew his henchman was haitian, seeing as he's never spoken a single word (not to mention french) till now.

Or used her power in an area that supposedly negates the power. Sylar couldn't use his, but she attempted to use her's. Didn't work, and Sylar escaped.
So when is it returning from hiatus?
1 and 8 and air others on Sci Fi Channel....
rebkell 12-04-06, 11:15 PM I should have thrown in my guess on who was gonna bite the bullet tonight, my reasoning was they were listed as 'Guest Starring'.
R_Willis 12-05-06, 12:15 AM Awesome episode tonight. This show rocks.

I'm beginning to like this a lot more then JERICHO. At first I wasn't sure.
cavalierlwt 12-05-06, 12:23 AM Great episode, it's going to be hard to wait for the hiatus to be over!

Another great ep. The 'Hannibal' thing they did with Sylar was interesting, though short-lived. We pretty much already knew he'd escape because of Isaac's future demise. And because of how many times the other characters said "he's taken care of". If that doesn't scream "he's NOT taken care of", I don't know what does.
It's also how we know Peter lives at least a little longer - I don't recall seeing a scar on his face, and he and Hiro haven't met yet. Does Peter dream about what HE can do, or what OTHERS can do? Radioactive Man only starts to go nuclear when he gets mad, and there were no hints that Peter was mad about something. But if Sylar gets R-Man's powers and can't control them, that could be different.
Schteevie 12-05-06, 01:03 AM Can some ne explaine how they contained Sylar's powers in "the plastic room", and then how he escaped? None of it makes sense to me.
why could she control him easily before but not now?
slick316 12-05-06, 01:13 AM Only thing I can think of is that Sylar somehow "learned" something from HRG because HRG is immune to her.
But then again, I don't understand how he broke through the glass, were his powers suddenly working?
What again does the Haitian do? Seems that something was up when he was around the cop that can hear thoughts, blocking his thoughts.
Schteevie 12-05-06, 01:32 AM Who is "HRG"?
the hatian seems to be able to block other people's powers...
Initially, I thought it was him controlling Silar... but then he wasn't around - I dunno - I don't get what went on there and how he was suddenly able to escape.
Who is "HRG"?
HRG = Horn-Rimmed Glasses -- Claire's dad...

I couldn't tell you how all powers were neutralized in the room, but they were...thus when Eden invoked her powers...no effect. But whatever she did, it broke the seal and that was all they wrote for Eden...
Great episode tonight. The Haitian speaks..And does not seem to have the same agenda as Bennet.
And, given HRG's mysterious phone call and his comment to Eden about "marching orders," it would seem that HRG is working for someone else...
Lindermann, perhaps?

I'm not sure how they supressed his other powers, but the plastic room was to control his powers to manipulate metals (remember the locker doors flying at Peter). Everything in the room was plastic, until she brought the gun in, so he was able to pull her through the glass/plastic using the metal in the gun. Or I could be wrong. Great episode tonight, can't wait until the 22nd!
Marcus Carr 12-05-06, 02:31 AM Goodbye, my love. :(

IMDB.
Can some ne explaine how they contained Sylar's powers in "the plastic room", and then how he escaped? None of it makes sense to me.
why could she control him easily before but not now?
I think she turned something off on the way in that blocks powers. Hoping to suggest him instantly. But he realized his powers were back and took her out too fast. We still don't know what all he can do. Seems pretty clear that HRG works for someone who created these superpowers. I've been wondering about that for weeks. If so, they could have devices to block them.
What again does the Haitian do? Seems that something was up when he was around the cop that can hear thoughts, blocking his thoughts.
The Haitian can't block powers, he can do much to minds, though. Which can look like the same thing. Since the cop's power is currently all about reading minds, there is probably just an overload around the Haitian. Also around Peter the mimic, they were both getting feedback headaches when they were close. No doubt that would go away if Peter learned how to use it better. He's actually almost as dangerous as Sylar since he can't control any stray powers that walk by. Hence the dream of him being the exploding person from the painting; not Sylar, not Radiation Man.
Assayer 12-05-06, 06:24 AM Did anyone else notice that Peter looked ill throughout much of the episode. What if Peter not only mimics mutations that involve super powers but also anomalous cells such as cancer? An interesting twist. . . the hospice nurse who contracts cancer from his patients?

My take on it, is that Sylar's powers come from the super ability to figure out how things work. I think he needs the brains to analize them and adapt his own to gain new powers. It was just a matter of time before he figured out how the room worked and adapted to it.

This is a great show, and I love the characters. All but Jessica/Nikki. I still haven't understood her/their role in this. Nikki's powers are Jessica, yet they are only used against people that supposedly do bad things to Nikki. Not sure where that fits into this show.
IrmoGamecoq 12-05-06, 08:23 AM I agree. Though wonderful to look at, Nikkie/Jessica is my least favorite part of the show. The scenes just drag when she's in them. It's almost like the old Michael-Walt scenes on Lost...not that Michael was nice to look at or anything. :D
I like the theory that Eden turned "something" off when she went into the room. Sylar realized it and made short work of her. Too bad for Eden, she was starting to grow on me...but kudos to the writers, it takes some nads to kill off a (somewhat) major character like that.

At some point, I suspect super strength will play an important role...and Nikki sounded like she wanted to get that under contol...or at least get herself away from people she could hurt by turning herself in.

Peter's dreams are of the future....and he dreamed that he and the other Heroes were in some sort of crisis in NYC...and then Peter BLEW UP. He's concerned that he is the reason NYC is destroyed.
FROM EW.COM:
Exit to Eden
On ''Heroes,'' the mind-bending babe loses in her showdown with Sylar; plus, Peter has a vision of destroying New York by Gilbert Cruz
Now that, my friends, is a fall finale.
For the first time in a long time, we got to see a bit of each of the show's characters. The Haitian speaks! Eden shoots herelf while inadvertently helping Sylar escape! [Thanks for the clarification, readers!] Hiro faces off against a dinosaur (albeit in a painting by Isaac)! Mohinder returns to New York, Matt and Audrey get one step closer to Sylar, Niki and her superfamily briefly reconcile, while Claire and her family begin to break apart.
And, of course, Peter has that spectacularly eerie waking dream (isn't it always freaky when people move in slow motion and speak without sound?), which seems to reveal him as the origin of the bomb that destroys New York City. Yes, sadly, our emo-haired hero is the flaming man of Isaac's Human Torch painting. He sees this, then falls into a coma. Cliff-hanger. The end. See you in January.
Now, this need not be the way the whole thing plays out, but Isaac painted it, and I can't think of a single thing he's painted that hasn't come true, right from the beginning of the show: Claire walking through fire, Peter flying, everything that happened in the homecoming episode. And Hiro's realization in last week's episode that you can't necessarily change the past even if you can control time and space (which raises a question: Can you then similarly not change the future?) is making me think that New York really is going to blow up and that Peter might be the one who does it after absorbing Ted the radioactive guy's powers. I mean, he has to be seeing the future, right? He doesn't even know Niki or D.L. or Micah, but there they are, in his dream.
Clearly that would suck — because Peter would likely die and, except for Hiro, he's the most likable person on the show — but it would also be somewhat brave to kill off a main character and reduce an American city to char and ash. I actually would really like to see season 2 begin in a semi-post-apocalyptic America. Like Jericho but with larger stakes and bigger balls.
If that were to happen, I would totally keep watching. Of course, it's probably not going to. I mean, Peter would immediately kill most of the other heroes, right? Can't see how that would work. As long as they didn't slay Hiro (and how could they? The man turns into a samurai, fer crissakes.), I'd survive. Yeah, sometimes he's sort of a clown, and sometimes he's kinda annoying (Yatta!), but every episode he gets one or two laugh-out-loud lines. Like the way he said to Isaac, ''I saw you on the floor. You were dead. With...your...head...cut...off.'' Or, in the same scene, the way he whispered, ''How do you stop an exploding man?'' Or his ''I really need to find that sword'' when he was confronted with that awesome (in a really childish way) painting of him fighting a dinosaur.
And especially this exchange.
Ando: ''No. Save the cheerleader. Save the world.''
Hiro: ''No, it's an 'if, then' statement.''
Ando: ''How do you know?''
Hiro: ''I was the one who said it.''
Ando: ''Future you is not you.''
Okay, maybe more than one or two laugh-out-loud lines. That right there is a pretty ingenious way to take the mickey out of the whole ''Save the cheerleader, save the world'' thing. I've been debating that fine grammar point — is it a comma or a period? — for weeks now.
And whether it's an ''if, then'' statement or not, the cheerleader was definitely saved. In shock and a heightened emotional state, Claire decided to tell her father about her abilities, to which H.R.G. replied that he'd known about them for years — a secret that he kept only to protect her. From whom? Sylar, of course, but he's only known about the guy for six months or so. Methinks it's his mysterious employer, with whom we overheard H.R.G. conversing for the first time in regards to Sylar. (''Options? There are no options with an individual like this. Maybe I didn't make the risk clear. [Sigh.] Understood.'') Is it Linderman? Is this mobster — who is connected to Niki, is blackmailing Nathan, and specifically bought a very important Peter-related painting from Isaac — the one financing H.R.G.'s operation at the Primatech Paper Company?
Whoever his employer is, we began to see a more ruthless side of H.R.G. here. Clearly the man has done some bad things in the past, but he has crossed a line, as the Haitian revealed in his scene with Claire. (Isn't it weird that even Eden had never heard him speak before?) ''I work for your father. He sent me here to make you forget. Like he sent me to your friend and your brother and your mother so many times. He'll be here soon expecting that you don't remember anything. But it's very important that you do.'' Yes, I know, who wouldn't want to purge their family members' brains from time to time? (''Your mother's broken heirloom china? I have no idea what you're talking about.'') But this episode dropped me over again into the bad-H.R.G. camp.
Still, H.R.G. is nowhere near as bad as Sylar. We've seen the results of his head-slicing work before, and we got to see his pre-Sylar self in last week's episode, but this time we finally saw the man as a walking, talking, ''I'm in a cell and I'm still going to kill your daughter'' badass. I assume that he was able to propel Eden through a thick pane of glass only because the Haitian wasn't around squelching his powers. (Does that mean that the Haitian was sleeping in the next room the entire time?) Poor Eden, though. Trying to avenge the death of her friend Suresh, she seems to have got it good. Now Sylar's back on the loose and no one's safe. You knew they weren't going to hold him for long.
So, no more new episodes until next year. A lot of time to think about things. For example: Is the Haitian still working for H.R.G.? Could he have aligned with Sylar? Is Peter really the bomb? And are we ever going to care about Niki/Jessica's character?
Steve Scherrer 12-05-06, 10:14 AM My take on it, is that Sylar's powers come from the super ability to figure out how things work. I think he needs the brains to analize them and adapt his own to gain new powers. It was just a matter of time before he figured out how the room worked and adapted to it.
Yup. I agree.
petergaryr 12-05-06, 10:34 AM Peter's dreams are of the future....and he dreamed that he and the other Heroes were in some sort of crisis in NYC...and then Peter BLEW UP. He's concerned that he is the reason NYC is destroyed.
Took me a second to figure out what was going on. At first I thought he had done a Hiro-style teleportation into a New York that had been evacuated because somehow people knew someone or something was about to blow up.
Then I got the prophetic dream take.
Now, as a previous poster suggested.....Hiro cannot change the outcome of the past.....but I'm not so sure about the future. If a different choice is made now, it will affect the future timeline, like that quantum theory that pops up now and again claiming that every possible choice point breaks into alternate timelines so that all possible outcomes happen (there was a great ST-TNG episode on that).
I don't think that's the same as someone from a future timeline coming back and changing the original choice point. Of course, this is time travel and it is a fantasy show, so....what the heck.
This is a great show, and I love the characters. All but Jessica/Nikki. I still haven't understood her/their role in this. Nikki's powers are Jessica, yet they are only used against people that supposedly do bad things to Nikki. Not sure where that fits into this show.
I think the strength his her power. Jessica is the result of a cracked brain due to child abuse. It's just tricky since the alter-ego is the one that understands the power. Although I'm not convinced that Niki is the real person. It could even be Jessica is the real person and Niki the alter ego. Multiple personality disorder is freaky enough, and this is a weird TV show on top of that.
I'm trying to figure out if Micah actually got hurt for any length of time when Jessica hit him. He seemed just fine a few seconds later. He clearly has several abilities himself.
tonybradley 12-05-06, 11:23 AM I didn't get the ending where Peter is in NYC with all the other Heros and nobody else. I know this was a final dream or thought before he died but what did it all mean? I must have missed something....
Died? Did I completely miss something on the show? I saw him get sick and collapse, quit breathing, but I didn't notice him die. Let me know if I missed something as if I did, that's major.
cheneyp 12-05-06, 11:25 AM Died? Did I completely miss something on the show? I saw him get sick and collapse, quit breathing, but I didn't notice him die. Let me know if I missed something as if I did, that's major.
He must ultimately survive because when Future Hiro sees him on the train he comments about not having seen him without his scar - don't think he has this scar yet does he?
Chevron07 12-05-06, 11:29 AM I think Peter may have been sick for either of two reasons.
a) He was having power overload...
His body didn't know how to handle being in close proximity to Nathan, Claire, Matt and the Haitian within such a short time frame.
b) Sylar...
We saw Sylar get into his head while locked up, possible making him ill as well. I think once Syler broke out, he really started going to town on messing with Peter.
ncxcstud 12-05-06, 11:36 AM Great, great episode.
I really thought Isaac would be the one who was knocked off...i'm glad Hiro taught him how to 'concentrate hard' to use his abilities without the drugs...NBC was walking a fine line there...looks like they cleared it up nicely.
Eden was growing on me as well...it seems the more she was shown the better of an actress she became. That first episode was terrible with her in it...wow...
Sylar is crazier than ever.

LOL she was a good actress playing a bad actress....(as Mohinder's friend)

mdesmarais 12-05-06, 12:09 PM I'm not sure how they supressed his other powers, but the plastic room was to control his powers to manipulate metals (remember the locker doors flying at Peter). Everything in the room was plastic, until she brought the gun in, so he was able to pull her through the glass/plastic using the metal in the gun. Or I could be wrong. Great episode tonight, can't wait until the 22nd!
Wasn't he moving glasses for Suresh? And the guy he got the power from moved a ceramic mug, right? Or am I not remembering clearly?
At least Claire gets to keep her memories...too bad about her buddy though.
Too bad for Claire. She lost her pal. Her buddy does not know what he lost. I am pissed at Bennet. He is locking Claire away to protect her.
Steve Schauer 12-05-06, 01:53 PM The first 35 minutes or so were SD for me - watching via Dish Network in Seattle area.
Marcus Carr 12-05-06, 01:57 PM Wasn't he moving glasses for Suresh? And the guy he got the power from moved a ceramic mug, right? Or am I not remembering clearly?
Yeah, he got the power of telekenesis from the guy he killed in the episode "Six Months Ago". Sylar moved a glass in that episode.

hongcho 12-05-06, 02:41 PM Ramdom thoughts...
First, moving "Heroes" to SciFi... Sure we'd miss HD, but if I had to choose between the story and the HD, I'd always go for the story. If they are being forced by NBC to "kiddify" the story, I'd be glad to watch the series in SD on SciFi.
As for Sylar's break-out... I have several theories. 1) Sylar was just waiting around since Mr. Bennet does not have any super power. He was waiting for someone with super power to come by so that he can take his/her power. 2) He figured out how the containment system worked. 3) Eden did turn off something to make her power work in the containment system.
So, how many people did Sylar kill so far? He should have at least that many powers, right? We've primarily seen his first stolen power (telekinesis), but we did see some "freezing" power as well.
As I suggested before, I think Mr. Bennet's boss is Linderman (unless they decide to introduce yet another wealthy plotter).
I think the Haitian (having a secret of not talking) has some relations with Claire. Maybe he knew Claire's real dad who died 14 years ago. Maybe he was sticking around Mr. Bennet for Claire. Another interesting character whose back story I am interested to find out.
Peter is definitely a mimic. However, we've seen that he has some other power. Is it a different kind of prophecy? I think he might be able to create some kind of "bonds" with whomever he came in contact with, maybe? This unknown power must be related to what the dieing old man he cared for said. And why did he look ill? Is it like a power-overload as someone else suggested?
It would be difficult to wait 6 weeks!
Hong.
rebkell 12-05-06, 02:50 PM Sylar didn't kill Eden, Eden killed herself, to prevent Sylar from taking her brain. Was that not how everyone else saw it?
Yeah, rebkell, I agree that's what it looked like, she realized she was dead anyway, so she blew her brains out so Sylar wouldn't be able to duplicate her power.
pappy97 12-05-06, 02:55 PM Sylar didn't kill Eden, Eden killed herself, to prevent Sylar from taking her brain. Was that not how everyone else saw it?
I guess that makes sense, but it can go either way since we didn't actually see how Eden died.
aviators99 12-05-06, 02:59 PM I guess that makes sense, but it can go either way since we didn't actually see how Eden died.
She definitely killed herself. Sylar was surprised and angry about it.
pappy97 12-05-06, 03:00 PM Too bad for Claire. She lost her pal. Her buddy does not know what he lost. I am pissed at Bennet. He is locking Claire away to protect her.
I am ticked off too. It frustrates (slows down) the story to have everyone around Claire have their memory wiped out. I am curious to see the connection between "the Haitian" and Claire.
Sylar didn't kill Eden, Eden killed herself, to prevent Sylar from taking her brain. Was that not how everyone else saw it?
Yes, but she only did so because she was about to die anyway. By blowing her brains out she denied him her power.
rebkell 12-05-06, 03:55 PM There seems to be a lot of dissension in the ranks of the HRG outfit, Eden gets the painter out and the Haitian dude isn't going to wipe out Claire's memory, and HRG I believe wanted to let Eden kill Sylar, but he had different orders from headquarters. He never really told Eden not to do it, just something about he didn't have time for this right now.
I think HRG is a probably a decent guy, but the organization he's working for has a stranglehold on him some way or the other.
petergaryr 12-05-06, 03:57 PM She definitely killed herself. Sylar was surprised and angry about it.
That made her death more "heroic" if you will. She was willing to sacrifice herself to prevent the bad guy from getting a power he would use for evil.

Hong.
Good question. The list had a number of deceased notations on it. Could be that Sylar has been busy the last 6 months. That is part of the mystery about him. He is becoming the ultimate loner anti-superhero, killing people to get and use their powers.
Peter on the other hand, merely "borrows" a power making him work with a team.
WilliamR 12-05-06, 04:02 PM So so episode. Mixed feelings. Why was Jessica such an incredible shot when practicing (all centered in the head), but then when she goes to shoot hit she can't hit him in the head, she then decides to shoot him in the shoulder. He wasn't running or even moving that much, just getting into the vehicle. She knows what his power is so she probably only had one chance. Her next shot then misses when he is prone on the ground? Come on, then she finally hits him in the head. To far fetched.
The big ending that we wouldn't believe that NBC kept saying we haven't seen anything was a huge let down. It was only a dream, so nothing big there. What was such a huge surprise about all that?
Hiro still steals the show. His lines just crack me up.
I think Sylar had other powers they didn't know about or did and thus they didn't bring any metal in to the room. When Eden did, that is when it happened. It looked like the gun was pulled through the window first or was the catalyst. Maybe Sylar has magnetisim or something. Or he figured out how the containment system "ticked". I don't think Eden turned anything off because she didn't touch anything in there or outside when she went in. When HRG said your powers wont work in here, he could of just been referring to the drugged state they were keeping them in and not so much some kind of technology they created, that would be to far fetched since the powers are all genetics, how could they disrupt genetics for every power of every person that might be in there.
Peter's power is empathy. All Heroes just have one except Sylar can figure out how to change his brain patterns to make more powers but his one power was knowing how things work. Peter's power allows him to absorb other powers as part of his empathy towards other people. Either A: he retains some of the power and the accumulative effect sent his body into overload or B: HRG did something to him.
In an upcoming episode it was revealed that Peter absorbs so many powers that it makes Sylar extremely jealous. So that might be a clue that he does retain the powers he absorbs or something, but goes against the fact that in one episode he couldn't fly again when he wasn't around his brother.
All in all an okay episode. Dissapointed about the memory wipe of Zach, I liked that someone else knew. Wasn't a big fan of the betrayal by the Haitian, seemed out of place all of a suddent, it was working better when the Haitian was working with HRG as a team, seemed cooler, more mysterious. Oh well.
That made her death more "heroic" if you will. She was willing to sacrifice herself to prevent the bad guy from getting a power he would use for evil.
I totally missed this! I thought Syler did the telekinesis thing on the gun. I will watch it over but I trust you all got it right.

She did hit him in the head, it went right through him and blew out the tire, that was after she hit him in the shoulder and she may have missed everything with one shot, but she definitely put one through his head.
It looked to me like it bounced off is head.

He definitely pulled the gun through the window first.
But, it's generic telekenisis, not magnetism, as we've seen him move a water glass and a ceramic coffee cup, neither of which is a ferrous metal...
~Dan
cheneyp 12-05-06, 04:21 PM It looked to me like it bounced off is head.
No, it looked to me like it went straight through his head and into the tire. There was a little "fuzz" around where the bullet went through his head; i.e., his power.
I totally missed this! I thought Syler did the telekinesis thing on the gun. I will watch it over but I trust you all got it right.
She definitely aimed the gun and pulled the trigger herself. Sylar needs her brain out of her skull in one piece, not blown all over the room behind her. No, it wasn't him.
Besides, he looked pretty surprised when she blew her brains out...

mrkrispy 12-05-06, 04:27 PM my thoughts so far (obviously spoilers but most of the last several pages have been):
1) Eden didn't kill herself, Sylar used his telekinesis to shoot her. We don't know how he aquires the powers, does he eat brains or something?
2) I think Peter was holed up in a room next to the Nuclear Guy, and he was absorbing the power thru the walls. Either it is making him sick or too much for him.
3) When do we get to see Hiro fight a dinosaur?
3)
Revolver 12-05-06, 04:30 PM My guess is that since Peter absorbs the powers of others he comes into contact, he inadvertently absorbs Radio-active guy’s powers sometime in the future. Maybe Peter doesn't know he came into contact with the guy and since he doesn't know the power, he doesn't know how control it. BOOM!
At the end of the episode it looked like Peter was having an Isaac drug withdrawal moment and had a vision of the future that showed him going nuclear. But, as others have said, it could have been overload from all the people around him.
petergaryr 12-05-06, 04:30 PM No, it looked to me like it went straight through his head and into the tire. There was a little "fuzz" around where the bullet went through his head; i.e., his power.
It went through his forehead. I assume that since he was shot in the shoulder, he "turned on" his phasing ability (if that is how it works) knowing that someone was after him.

I thought it went through his head, at least that's what I think the intention was:
The slight sliver of light going through to the tire is what I presumed was the path of the bullet through his forehead and out behind the back of his ear:

I agree, this is what I always thought. I was suprised when people said Sylar killed her. Sylar wanted her powers and she could not kill Sylar so the only option left is for her to kill herself, so Sylar doesn't get the power. Watch that part again and you will see.
Nate
That made her death more "heroic" if you will. She was willing to sacrifice herself to prevent the bad guy from getting a power he would use for evil.
Of course, if she'd just left him alone like she was told, he might not have gotten free. We don't enough yet about his powers to say.
Of course, she could have brought a pocket knife for him to slit his wrists with, instead of a desert fricking eagle (not sure if that's the right model, but it was bleeping huge)
She did hit him in the head, it went right through him and blew out the tire, that was after she hit him in the shoulder and she may have missed everything with one shot, but she definitely put one through his head.
She did, but the OP's point was that she should have taken the headshot first.

It was at the very end of the episode where he is interrogated by FBI chick and the fat cop. Cop was at home confronting his wife about her infidelity when he received a call from FBI chick...a car was burning in the background, and FBI chick stated that radiation man had escaped.
klouseau 12-05-06, 05:26 PM I think the Haitan guy kept Sylars powers under wraps, but when he went to speak to Claire, he left Sylar unguarded and he was able to use his powers.

I'm trying to be humorous here, but I could almost see them doing something where Hiro is cast in a movie or something, thus the sword and dinosaur.
Hollywood always loves "in" jokes like that.
So anyone think we are going to see Hiro fight Godzilla with his magic sword sometime during the series?;)
I'll bet he fights in font of a mural on a wall or he's in a museum or maybe they went to a movie theater with a godzilla marathon playing. Hiro wanted to take Charlie to the movies earlier.

Dallas has a dinosaur statue in the West End. It used to be Planet Hollywood. He's already in Texas.......But on the other hand that painting didn't look like the statue we have.

To me it looked like there were "flames" shooting out of the dino's mouth, that's why Godzilla came to mind. And what other fire-breathing dino would a Japanese guy fight?:D
Interactive comic is up, and it's a good one HERE (http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/novel_010.shtml).
Revolver 12-05-06, 05:49 PM Dave, I think you meant to post comic #11?
http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/novel_011.shtml
When Peter passed out and fell to the ground, I couldn't help but think how the transition to his "dream" of the future was very reminiscent of the transitions of Hiro when he travels to other times and places.
Seems pretty clear that HRG works for someone who created these superpowers. I've been wondering about that for weeks. If so, they could have devices to block them.Perhaps the horn-rimmed glasses do more than just help HRG see better.
Dave, I think you meant to post comic #11?

Wow, that one really doles out some info.
Dave, I think you meant to post comic #11?
http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/novel_011.shtmlSo is this a spoiler or what? NOT what I would have expected from the ending of last night's episode. I doubt they would make the comic and the show take different paths.
If Eden didn't kill herself, why did Sylar get mad when the gun is fired at her head?
Yep. He was not a happy camper when she blew her brains out.
I'm trying to be humorous here, but I could almost see them doing something where Hiro is cast in a movie or something, thus the sword and dinosaur.
Hollywood always loves "in" jokes like that.
How about the obvious; he goes too far back in time. He made the comment about stepping on a bug. I think that was a clue.
That scene with Sylar was so X-Men, I was waiting for Patrick Stewart to stop by and play a game of chess.Right. Except Sylar can pretty much use any physical item (such) as a (small firearm) telekinetic-weapon. The pistol (which happened to be metal) was the only way he could break that heavy Lecter-type glass, as there were no other objects available to control.
I believe Eden's problem was revealing the weapon too soon. She should have simply told him to decapitate himself. Sylar could not suggestively control her, because she was still alive. And as another poster pointed out, she wisely destroyed her own brain so he couldn't copy it and assume her power.
How about the obvious; he goes too far back in time. He made the comment about stepping on a bug. I think that was a clue. The stepping on a bug and changing the future reference is from Ray Bradburry's short A Sound of Thunder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_sound_of_thunder), or something what is come to known later as "The Butterfly Effect" in time travel stories. Weee!!!!!
As for Syler's powers, he has everyone's powers he's killed up until that point, and he killed "telekenetic guy" first. So that wasn't much of a suprise. What was a suprise was that he was able to resist "suggestion girl's" power the second time around. Which makes you wonder if he was just playing along the first time...
Oh, and Haitian guy can talk. Anyone else not suprised?

Yeah, it was talked about a few pages back. Thus my comment.
No, it looked to me like it went straight through his head and into the tire. There was a little "fuzz" around where the bullet went through his head; i.e., his power.
I believe you are reversing his power. I could be wrong, but still disagree. His ability is to be able to go through objects like a car window, not break it and not get hurt, yet he can still turn a lock or what have you. Meaning the object he passes through can't penetrate him, but he can penetrate it.
zaphod7501 12-05-06, 09:53 PM It looked to me like it bounced off is head.
I just watched my HD recording on a 140" PJ screen and it definitely went through his head. It formed a little dimple as it entered his forehead.
This reminds me of the Kennedy assasination, back and to the left. : )
I thought it went off the front right side of his forehead and richocheted, but I already had erased mine and was relaying based on memory. DVR's are great for things like that. I use it all the time when friends and I watch hockey and it is amazing what happens and what the refs see or call are totally different.

wow what a great episode...can't wait for it to return!
"I really gotta find that sword" lol
I think Sylar had other powers they didn't know about or did and thus they didn't bring any metal in to the room. When Eden did, that is when it happened. It looked like the gun was pulled through the window first or was the catalyst.
I checked this out in slo-mo. It was her head that hit the glass. He just smashed her into it. I'm not sure why everyone wants to make him into Magneto. (who btw can control any metal, not just magnetic) In Sylar's cell there appear to be lights with metal parts, concrete walls that likely have metal inside, air ducts, hinges or the entire doors, the faucet on the sink. All sorts of stuff made of metal. I think the material has nothing to do with his telekinesis.
aviators99 12-06-06, 01:11 AM So is this a spoiler or what? NOT what I would have expected from the ending of last night's episode. I doubt they would make the comic and the show take different paths.
I would have expected Sylar to have been able to escape with the glass broken and all, but it looks like he did not, according to the comic?
Oh, and Haitian guy can talk. Anyone else not suprised?
Nope. I was surprised when Eden claimed he couldn't. When he did later, the world made sense again. Just like a girl, "I know he can't talk since he won't talk to me." ;)
nuttyinnyc 12-06-06, 05:13 AM Oh my god, now that is the way to have a seaon finale. Not really a big cliffhanger, but a great episode. Peter isn't in NY and it is a dream. Right there he can stop it by not going to NY. No real drama in that I think the haitian speaker and letting Claire remeber her powers would have been a good ending point. Either way we want more so it doesn't matter.
nuttyinnyc 12-06-06, 06:21 AM Right now there are many answers why Sylar was able to use his powers. HRG said, "your powers won't work here" Meaning there was a something preventing him from using them. It was not the Hatian because then he would have to be there 24/7 to keep Sylar from escaping.
It was all Edens fault. That is why HRG DID NOT want Eden to come in with him when he brought food to Sylar. Because if she used her power HRG knew he would be able to use it against her with out Haitian man there to protect her. The fact is she was trying to use her power to make him shot himself. Right there she was connected to him from the outside of the no power zone which made him able to use his powers. He then pulled her in HEAD first(watch over and over the head goes and top of glass breaks first cuts of head but not on hand). Like some one said here already she broke the barrier by using hers by going into his mind. She DID KILL HERSELF. For argument sakes, dispite the resons why already noted here. Stop watching the sceen and listen, when someone uses mind control or some special power there is a sound track that is played, it wasn't played during that exchange. Just another thing for the DID side. He told her "that won't hurt me" she kept raising the gun untill BOOM. Still a great episode after viewing again.
nuttyinnyc 12-06-06, 06:25 AM I don't think he will escape, He needs a hostage to get out of there. That will be HRG when he feeds him in the morning and finds Edens body. Plus the Doors looks when it closes. He can't exactly get the code from Eden anymore. The light turned redwhen the door clsed after her.
scottie137 12-06-06, 07:25 AM Anyone know how the comics fit into the show? Spoiler alertThe comic clearly shows Sylar being sedated and not escaping....
aldamon 12-06-06, 08:27 AM "Anyone know how the comics fit into the show? The comic clearly shows Sylar being sedated and not escaping...."
It's canon as far as I know.

And yet, still a good idea to use spoiler space as we have been doing...some people get upset when previews are discussed...these comics go way beyond that.
So, out of curiosity, what is the general consensus about discussing specific information revealed in the online comic?
The comics are meant to be part of the whole Heroes "experience". They're not really spoilers, as they're intended to be read along with the show to give you the complete story. People who, for some reason, refuse to read them are missing out on a whole lot of interesting backstory that they're not likely to get any other way.
CPanther95 12-06-06, 09:24 AM Anything not presented within the show or the previews immediately following the show are considered spoilers. Please use spoiler tags.
WilliamR 12-06-06, 09:50 AM She did hit him in the head, it went right through him and blew out the tire, that was after she hit him in the shoulder and she may have missed everything with one shot, but she definitely put one through his head.
Yeah but my point is the first shot was not a head shot and the second shot she missed and hit the vehicle, then the third shot hit him in the head. Why didn't she shoot him in the head the first time? It was just not realistic that she would wound him first then try to kill him, especially knowing his powers (he used them on her).
WilliamR 12-06-06, 09:51 AM Info on upcoming episodes:
In a preview of the upcoming season Hiro is seen buying his sword in a shop, so he definitely gets it. HRG has Sylar down and Sylar looks like his eyes are glazed over. Jessica is in prison but is shown beating the crap out of a guard.

I'm so confused. The comics are on the NBC site. How can someone NOT read them and hope to understand the show? For example, there has already been a pointless discussion over whether Eden killed herself or not. Also, don't people want to know about Isaac's first painting or what happened after Claire's crash or how Mohinder got his father's cab? These things is are all cleared up in the 7-"page" comics!

I don't read the comics and I understand the show just fine. It's a TV show; maybe some people don't care how Mohinder got his fathers cab. Your projecting your own sensibilities on everyone. Will I look at the comics at some point? Perhaps, but the last time I tried they bored me but I don't tell everyone to NOT read the comics. As for spoilers, I don't really care that much what is revealed ahead of time but I accept many people don't want to see it discussed.
Yeah but my point is the first shot was not a head shot.
Did she ATTEMPT a head shot? I don't remember. I do think the bullet passing through his head was pretty cool either way.

It seemed pretty clear that PixieChick killed herself by destroying her brain, so that Sylar couldn't use it. Why would Sylar destroy what he needs to gain the power?

Snipers go for the body. Only gamers think head shots are where it's at.

The OPs point was that she SHOULD have if she really meant to kill him.
And if she was aiming for center mass it wasn't a very good shot either way.
timick1 12-06-06, 12:59 PM Will Hero's be shown again (the episodes already aired) before the new ones start back up? If so... when and where and will they be shown in order?
Just wondering
Thanks

They've been doing some reruns on the Sci-Fi channel, Friday at 7 PM EDT.

No they don't, not always, numerous examples including a real life one broadcast on TV (the LA shootings), soon as the snipers got the armor piercing rounds they took him down by a single shot to the head. In addition, CNN had videos of snipers in Iraq (SOOOO disturbing) all were head shots.
Any rate, she wanted to kill him so why the shoulder? Its the safest area for survival, what was she trying to accomplish by shooting him in the shoulder, knowing he can phase, then deciding, oh my third shot is going to be the head shot, why not shot him in the head the first time, its the only chance she had, that is the point. In addition, she missed her second shot, and yet when she was practicing from far away, her shots where all clustered head shots.

Is it so hard to imagine that somewhere in her mind, Nikki didn't want to kill DL? It was Jessica that wanted him dead. Nikki had lost control, but perhaps she exerted a small amount of influence so that DL would have a warning before Jessica was able to try for a kill shot.
I know that's far out there, but not any crazier than some of the other weird stuff I've seen blurted out on this thread.

Could be, seemed she was able to take control once she saw Micah hurt.

I agree. Nikki took back a small amount of control. This may be the catalyst for Nikki fully regaining control in the future.
Steve Schauer 12-06-06, 03:07 PM Spoilers don't bother me. Due to a long series of questionable lifestyle choices, I can read a spoiler today and still be plenty surprised tomorrow.
