View Full Version : LG 42LC2D Any thoughts?? corona_12oz 09-14-06, 11:10 AM I see a thread on the LG 37LC2D, but I haven't found a discussion on the 42". Any thoughts on this set? EM3 09-14-06, 02:53 PM All I know is the 37 inch has a big following. I am also looking at the 42 inch. If memory serves me right it's native resolution is 720p and it will do 1080i. It has 2 component inputs and 1 HDMI. s-video, composit (not sure how many) and a VGA. I have seen it in action at the local Circuit City and to me it looks pretty good. The wife liked it enough to put it on the short list of possibilities even though it is a little more than she wanted to spend. I've been trying to find out how much space there is from the bottom of the speaker to the base. I need to know if the center channel speaker will fit under it. Anyone know? corona_12oz 09-14-06, 05:00 PM Yeah, lots of info on the 37 inch, but virutally nothing on the 42". Does no one here own this model? TulsaCoker 09-14-06, 05:38 PM No I bought the 37" due to bedroom room size however, if I could get the 42" to fit I would have both that set. Basically the 42" is the same as the 37" so with positive reviews of the 37" and my personal experience with the 37" the 42" should be very good set. EM3 09-15-06, 09:02 AM TulsaCoker could you do me a huge favor? I need to know how much space there is between the bottom of the speaker and the stand the tv is on. Thanks! I will measure it this weekend. Just guessing right now but about 3" Poupou 09-17-06, 12:09 PM We bought yesterday the 42". I am still not convince. I have been debeting for 2 weeks between that LG and Samsung LN-S4051D. I may return the LG. I took the LG since it was less expensive. The size of the stand is 25"(w)x10 1/2(D). It only has 2-3" between stand and bottum of the speaker. Thanks! TulsaCoker 09-19-06, 12:10 PM EM3 the distance between the bottom of the TV (speaker) and the stand is about 2" and the stand is on a slope so fitting a speaker in this area willl seam difficult. bobcat8 09-19-06, 01:29 PM I have the LG-42LB1DR. I like it very much. Check this link for my thoughts on the LG and the previously owned Sceptre 42: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=653098&page=102&pp=30 BobCat EM3 09-20-06, 10:07 AM Thanks! 2 inches is too short and the slope doesn't help either. I'll just keep looking for a new tv stand. crashdumy 09-21-06, 03:09 PM all with a 42LC2d, or 37LC2d Do you have any settings in your menus for the XD engine? I read an aussie review of an LG lcd and they talked about turning off the XD enhancement. I can' t find any way to do that. This tv must have some kind of dynamic contrast that I would like to turn off. It makes a noticeable adjustment to the brightness that I didn't ask for. Certain scenes actually look flickery. Anyone else with this? Torgar 10-01-06, 02:19 PM i dont have a problem with that the only thing that i have a problem with is that i cant change anything that has something to do with the captions, as if that whole part of the menu is locked and i dont know how to unlock it, does any1 know how to fix this? pasemp 10-03-06, 05:20 PM The only problem I have with the the LG 37 incher is on one channel. On SNY HD (kind of like a ESPN for NY), which is in my opinion the best HD channel I get, whenever the sports casters show replays, they look horrible. Smearing, motion artifacts, colors way over saturated, etc. But this only happens on replays. The Mets HD broadcasts and the daily programming on SNY look excellent. They are the only network I've seen that shoots everything in HD - even when they do locker room interviews (which cannot be said for the YES network). I've been wondering if the replays somehow get down or up converted and that's why they look so poor. As for menus, I've never seen anything related to the XD engine. Chimpunk 10-08-06, 07:08 PM RE: 42LB1DR How does one get the base off the thing for a wall hang? I'm an idiot, I know, but can't figure it out. I've removed the two screws just about the base on the back and manipulated, without success so far. TIA, Tim wombat4 10-11-06, 04:35 PM Remove the 6 screws closest to the bottom two on the sides and 4 in line looks like . . . . . . remove and it should come out. CaboWabo 10-13-06, 05:09 PM I have the 42LB1DR and I absolutely love it. I use the built-in TV GUIDE and DVR almost everyday to record programs and it will record in HD. The picture in both SD and HD is excellent. I have no complaints with this set at all. Chimpunk 10-15-06, 02:16 PM "Remove the 6 screws closest to the bottom two on the sides and 4 in line looks like remove and it should come out." Thanks, Wombat. I figured it out, and got it hung. Why wasn't that in the manual? New question: one can watch ATSC, and record ATSC to the internal PVR, but there doesn't seem to be any way of sending ATSC downconverted to NTSC through the AV Out jacks to an external (DVD) recorder. NTSC loop-through from another AV source, or from analog NTSC live/recording, sure, but whenever I play an ATSC source, the output blanks. If this is truly the case, then my wife is pissed that she can't dump recorded shows off to DVD-R. Please someone prove me wrong (before the next episode of One Tree Hill)! :-) Tim BTW, good looking picture, no visible defects. Chimpunk 10-16-06, 11:19 PM "Please someone prove me wrong (before the next episode of One Tree Hill)! :-)" Anyone have a link to a service manual PDF? Maybe there's a vestigial YPbPr output somewhere on the PVR chassis. TIA, Tim wedo43 10-19-06, 12:42 PM As someone who installs this stuff for a living, I recommend LG over Samsung any day. Samsung has a habit of cutting corners that has bit us in the XXX more than once. LG on the other hand seems to go to great lengths to get things right. shinksma 10-27-06, 06:40 PM Sorry for dredging up an older thread, but a previous poster asked a question that I'm curious about, and haven't seen an answer anywhere. Is there indeed a way to access the service menu of the LG 42LC2D? I haven't found a way to alter the backlight brightness, and wouldn't mind knowing how to do so, if it is even possible. Actually, I'm surprised this display doesn't get much traffic on this forum - maybe there isn't much to say, because people aren't having problems en masse, or maybe it isn't seeling as much as other brands/models. There are lots of "official owners" threads for pretty well everything else. Curious... shinksma stojanowski 11-30-06, 12:55 PM So if I am getting my first job out of college which requires me to move about 4 hours from home.. I dont know anyone in the new area so decided its time to upgrade to a new tv. I figure my room will be 10x10 or 10x12... Should I get the 37 or 42 inch? iRonManNCSU 12-06-06, 06:25 PM all with a 42LC2d, or 37LC2d Do you have any settings in your menus for the XD engine? Anyone else with this? I dug up my old log in to find out if this is a flaw or a feature. I too notice this problem, and it's really annoying. I know with LG's/Zeniths the service menu is commonly accessible by holding menu on the remote and TV at the same time. I'm going to try this, and at least I know i'm not the only one with this issue. As strange as it may seem, there's a substantial percentage of people on this forum who would recommend a 50" even for that small of a room. Definitely go 42" over 37". You'll quickly grow used to what will seem like a huge display initially. mikek 12-12-06, 03:25 AM i dont have a problem with that the only thing that i have a problem with is that i cant change anything that has something to do with the captions, as if that whole part of the menu is locked and i dont know how to unlock it, does any1 know how to fix this? You can't access caption adjustments while digital captions are being transmitted. Change to an analog channel and then the captions menu will be "unlocked". -mk mikek 12-12-06, 05:11 PM Sorry for dredging up an older thread, but a previous poster asked a question that I'm curious about, and haven't seen an answer anywhere. I was fooling around with IR codes to program my JP1 remote and I stumbled across an "expert mode". To access this you need to send the following IR code: Protocol: NEC1 EFC: 050 OBC: 207 Hex: 0C I haven't found any other way to access this. If you have no idea what I am talking about then you need to do a google search on JP1 programming. My remote file is also located at the JP1 forum. It allows you to program your remote to control this TV a lot better than original remote. The main improvement is the ability to access all the inputs with one button press. -mk BlueWRXPride 01-12-07, 03:26 PM This worked on a 42LB1DR. Did you just sent this code right from when you're watching 2 tv's or were you in the main menu somewhere? Or maybe it only works on your model tv? |
