Greetings Folks,

I was browsing Toshiba's site earlier & noticed they no longuer show Braveheart in the Paramount upcoming release lineup ?

Im dying to see this movie in HD DVD. Especialy since the SD version is rather sub-par. I dont understand why Paramount negleted this movie for so long. I would have happily double dipped for a collector's edition long long ago. Even tripple dipped.

This movie is on my top 5 prefered movie of all time.

Any info would be most appreciated!

Thanks,

Dan

AFAIK, it's still 'planned', but the official site now only lists titles that are actually announced with dates. (A decision that upset some, but I prefer.)

So, there's no new news at this stage, but don't think that the removal of this from the site means bad news. It just means that Paramount hasn't announced it yet.

I am patiently waiting with you. Braveheart will be a good HD DVD. As will Twister and Forrest Gump! :)

Counting up what they have released so far, they didnt really slow up with releases its about the same. I guess I just didnt notice before how little they were actually releasing though.

Nothing at all listed for them for March, hopefully that will change.

I've noticed Braveheart in the xbox live market place in HD (720p) available for download.

Watched it a couple of weeks ago, it's out standing in HD. The only thing that sucks is that X Box live movie down-loads take several hours to down load. Brave Heart HD took just over 4 hours to down load. Well worth it but you need to plan accordingly.

I tried out the Live HD version and had mixed feelings. I really enjoyed rewatching the movie but the presentation left much to be desired. The source was in poor condition. Exhibiting lots of dirt, speckles and wavering. I remember the DVD having similar problems and HD has only made them more pronounced. Some shots were still impressive with lots of detail but then others, like the panning shots of the highland landscape, were just covered in grain and dirt. Paramount will have to create a new source for this film to get the HD release it deserves.

Thats the down side of older moves in HD, at least in terms of down-load. Older films for down load don't go through the restoration of the master print like they do for release on HD DVD or B.D. so most often your going to see the flaws from an untouched master. For instance I also recently watched the down-load of Happy Feet HD, and was just as floored with the P.Q. as I was with the HD DVD version of the film, they were identical to one another. The bottom line seems to be as it always is, the condition of the source print = the quality of the product we get.

This will be fantastic with a 1.5mbps soundtrack. Even the 384k(?) DD tracks on the SD DVD and LD used to be reference at the time. Mel's still not too popular in the public eye right now but he's pretty popular with HD releases.
