This thread is intended to compose a list of all the different versions of the Halloween movies and the differences between them. Just post a reply stating the information and I will edit this post so the list will stay updated. I would like to find out if there is an "ultimate" version of some of the movies, so we will know which one contains all footage, features and bonus features that the other versions contain. I will place the different versions of each movie in the order which they were released.I'm sure this will help out a lot more people than just me. Might even become a STICKY.

If there is an Ultimate version: , don't worry about listing the differences in the different version of the movie. That would be pointless ;). If there are any versions that I did not list, please point them out to me.

I have the LE - Cundey app'd the color correction. While the Divimax version is a tad sharper, neither Cundey nor Carpenter had anything to do with it, and the colors are off. I've tried a few times to watch the Divimax, and I just get too distracted and give up. Also, for some reason, the title sequence (pumpkin credits) on the Divimax has interlace artifacts - like a chroma bug artifact - on my Panny RP-91 (which doesn't have the chroma bug).

I hope, HOPE that Anchor Bay takes the time and $ to get Cundey to come back and supervise the color correction for any future HD version.

Personally, the very best version is the 2-disc special edition with the lenticular cover and both versions of the movie. Marvellous.

As far as the rest:
HALLOWEEN 2 - get the R1 Universal release
HALLOWEEN 3 - get the R1 Universal (it's uncut vs. international versions)
HALLOWEEN 4 - get the R1 Anchor Bay divimax edition (you may also need the very first non-anamorphic release for the original, superior sound mix)
HALLOWEEN 5 - get the R1 Anchor Bay divimax
HALLOWEEN 6 - get the R2 edition for the anamorphic transfer
HALLOWEEN H20 - get the R2 for anamorphic
HALLOWEEN RESURRECTION - get the R1

Hope this helps!

What is R1 and R2 referring to?

To the best of my knowledge it means Region 1 or Region 2. If you live in America (unless you have an ALL region DVD player) you can only play Region 1 anyway.

What I am referring to is the "Special Merged Edition".

Want to know why you have never heard of it? Because I just created it today.

I was thinking about the fact that Halloween II begins with the same sequence that Halloween ends with, and it made me think about trying something.

I have the Pioneer DVR-640H-S, which is a DVD Recorder with a Hard Drive built into it, and I played both Halloween and Part II and recorded them on the HDD as one title (allowing the HDD to continue recording while I changed discs) then I edited part of the ending of Halloween, and part of the beginning of Halloween II to make them play seamlessly as one continuous film.

When I played back the final DVD I created, even I was surprised as to how smooth the edit came out. So now I have Halloween and Halloween II as one long 3-Hour film.

So does R0 (region zero) mean region free? Or is that just another region code?

That's the fact, Jack! :Dso both the r1 and r0 versions will work in any american dvd player?

FredProgGH
06-08-07, 01:36 AM
Right. R0 will work in any player anywhere (well, assuming it matches your video system, i.e. PAL or NTSC) including North America. Remember to be sure you get an NTSC disk unless you know you're set up for PAL playback.

Get the AB divimax. The increased clarity and detail trumps all - some fans will notice the color issues, other will not without a direct comparison.
