I've always been a fan of wrestling games and I'm hoping that this game can deliver the goods. Is anyone else interested in this title? I was thinkig it we would be nice for more news on this title at the Toyoko game show, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Totally interested... this is probably the first rasslin' game that I'll be buying. (RAW was abominable, and so was Legends of Wrestling.) This month's OXM had a nice three page spread on the progress of the game, but I don't know how close it is to a playable build - the article mentions that they're still considering character updates (like having HHH and Yawn Michaels in DX, or "King Booker"). So I'm not too surprised not to see it at TGS at this point.

I'll admitt I haven't wrestling since WCW days. Damn I loved that one with the NWO and Wolfpack. Anyhow I may not watch it nowadays, but I still love the games. I bought one for my Xbox with Goldberg on the cover and that wasn't to bad, until I found out if you do 3 submission moves in a row the computer would tap out! How they missed that bug was beyond me.

The best wrestling games I thought where on the N64. Graphics were decent, but the mechanics I felt were spot on.

I was when it was first announced but after seeing recent shots of it and no custom soundtracks it really turned me off...The ps2 version was really really polished and I think it will be half assed this go around for next-gen...08 is where it will be most likely....The trailer on LIVE could sell anybody it looked great...But no custom soundtracks whats up w/ that????

I think I could live without the custom soundtracks. I'm more of a person who likes the already made characters and start rasslin. I'd rather not waste time building someone up.

O/T in relation to your post but the ps2 version is pretty polished it looked great last year....Id pick it up if it was $30 bucks and the 360 version was 60 and be just as happy...

I just wish you could have solid online gameplay in a wrestling game....Its all cheap, on WM-21 and SvR all I ever encountered was people going outside the ring grabbing a chair and cheap shotting you....

Also have the arenas been announced for SvR 07??? Id like to see WM-9 caesars palace arena make it back in...That would be awesome.

If they did that 08 wouldnt sell!

You got about as far as you can with football games and the same can be said for wrestling games...Each year is just a roster update!....

It would be awesome if you could use the vision camera for SvR...You could make some awesome wrestlers even w/ taking photos from a picture I bet....

Game companies will never give us what we want like that...Not on a console anyways, would be nice but probably will never happen...

Also does anyone know why the 360 is so against custom soundtracks in games, when that was one of the big things about the XBOX-1????

My 360 is fried so I can't say for sure if the Demo is available on Live, or if it was just shown at the show in Spain. Looking at the movie though I like what I see. Should be a pretty good party game. :D

I'm very pleased with this and it looks amazing in HD. The wrestlers almost look real at times.

The new gameplay with the analogs has at least a half hour learning curve going for it, but once you start learning it, you probably won't want to go back to the old ways. There are five control choices.

I think choice D is as close to the old controls as you can get. The GM mode and other features sound better and more fleshed out this year and I'm very intruiged by what I've read about roster updates possibly and other kinds of downloadable content.

It's about time!

This game is an absolute must-buy for me.

I have been having a good time playing the demo. Just for fun I drug out an old copy of one of the N64 wrestling games. After going back and playing the old ones, I realized what a great engine Yukes has put together for 07.

I haven't watched wrestling in years, but the games were always great. Good mix of strategy and no "Street Fighter-esque" button combos to pull off moves. I love that games have moved back toward the grapple gameplay.

The legends list looks good too, with the guys I consider to be essential to a title like this. With the inclusion of Bret Hart, Hogan, The Rock and Stone Cold, this game will have a nice roster. I really wish they would just pony up and put a HUGE list of legends in the games. I love the big names, but would love to see lesser known guys like the Bushwhackers and Lex Luger.

This game is definite rent from Gamefly for me. If the single player mode turns out to be as deep as the previews are saying it is, I will more than likely buy it.

I agree they botched some of the wrestlers but I mean they are just pics and pics always look like crap to the real thing...On the Kane entrance when they go close up on him at the entrance ramp I couldnt tell between real and fake....I know 08 will be better and their is no custom soundtracks but this is a pretty solid title...The interactive environments makes it awesome, I love ripping signs in half chocking with wires and ripping the tables up..Plus climbing the scaffolding and dropping an elbow on your opponent through a table is golden!....

My only complaint is that I am a HHH fanboy and I know once this game is released I wont be playing as him....I love this game, I just hope the online play is solid which scares me because THQ hasnt had much success with online play in other games....

Plus the lack of Million Dollar Man is lame, but the WM-9 and SNME arenas are a seller for me brings back nostalgia especially since I attended WM-9....If you saw the pic with Hogan in the SNME you would drool!

But here is this!...We get 3 Hogans again! 80s style (pictured), Hollywood Hogan and I believe a new version...Although Id like pictures/hollywood/70s style with chest hair.

http://media.ve3tro.com/images/smackdown_vs_raw/wwesmackdownvsr38244.jpg

The GM mode will keep me busy I hope its not cheap though it sucked last year because you could never win...

The controls rock to, the analog stick is to great, I know people hate it but they just dont take the time to master it...Much more enjoyable then using buttons...

Im to hyped for this game, but with COD-3 and other solid titles I am going to be lost in what to play!

Id like to see the Trump Plaza arenas in Atlantic City that hosted Wrestlemania 4-5 as well as WM-9 and SNME...Of course we get the latter but I would love to see the AC arenas make it into the game but that wont happen...I could care less about the Garden though....

I know a lot of people hated it but Showdown Legends of Wrestling is still one of my wrestling games..The roster is so deep to my likings and the character models remind me of the old LJN action figures I had when I was a kid...Unfortunately its not BC yet!...

The last Legends of Wrestling had a great roster. The gameplay was decent, but the roster was wonderful. I wish the Smackdown games would do more of that.

I would even consider paying for a collection of arenas or legends to use in the game from the Xbox Live Marketplace. Not much, maybe you a pack of 10 additional legends for $4.00.

I was interested in this game until I played the demo. Is it me or are the controls not very intuitive? I got my ass kicked by Kane. I don't like losing that bad. It didn't seem like counters worked too well. Can anyone with more experience with this franchise make me reconsider?

There's at least a half hour learning curve with new controls and then you won't want to go back to the old ways.

The controls are very intuitive once you learn that it's all analogs first and foremost. There's a little timing difference you'll have to get used to.

Go in the opinions menu and try out one of the other five controller configs. I think Type D is pretty close to old school.

I heard THQ wants to release DLC but I highly doubt it will happen when they can bank on it the following year...Which is why I hate games that have sequels every year....You would think they would build off of their legends each time instead of removing them and adding other ones...

I would definately pay for DLC I wish I got it w/ FNR3 that sucked, but I do hope it comes out for SvR I would even be happy to pay for create a wrestler clothes...In 2006 you could create virtually anyone though....

WirelessGuru-Learn the analog stick its more than grappling and pressing it....I think if you press and hold RB while grappling you can hold onto your opponent and dish out some more powerful moves...I hated the game until I figured that out and throwing your guy onto the ropes and shaking them and bashing their bloody face into the turnbuckle and than rubbing your forearm up and down the cut and see the blood drip is to good, never gets old! :D

All of those kinds of things should already be included in a $50 or $60 game.

As long as the company is up front on what you are getting for your $60, I have no problem with them charging for new content.

I can not stand the EA downloads like the Tiger Woods 07 cheat codes that got released today. The Oblivion downloads are good, but guess what, I have not bought a single one. I decide for what content I am willing to pay.

If I were a game company, I sell the game. 2 months later, I offer up a set of downloads. For this game let's say a set of legends and arenas. The next year, all those legends and arenas are included in the 08 game. Repeat.

I was the same way. I seriously learned the controls from watching the videos and playing with both controllers. I hated it at first two, but the controls are really tight once you get the hang of them.

Think about it this way, your opponent is going to do one of two things, strike (punch, kick, chop, clothes line, etc.) or grapple you for a move. You choose which one you think they will do and push the appropriate trigger right before they do it. You have a 50% chance if you are just guessing. Eventually, you can do a pretty decent job at predicting what they will do based on match length, stamina, and location.

Also, when they get you in a Strong Grapple, keep pressing right trigger and you can reverse the hold a lot of the time.

The great part about this game so far is that there seems to be a way to counter almost anything. I have countered everything from finishing moves to chair shots. I am not great at the game, but I am getting better.

I've actually found the blocking to be great thanks to the trigger button. Your fingers are always pretty close to those anyways. I've been able to block more in this vs. any of the previous games.

Sometimes, you're just going to take the hit no matter what you do. ;)

Rumble Roses couldn't tie this thing's shoes in any respect.

The more I play the demo, the better it gets. Countering and dragging the guy to the "environmental grapple" points are great features that work flawlessly if done at the right time. Bouncing the guys crotch on the top rope is a riot !!! Preordered yesterday :)

Yeah I alot of people are complaining about the reversals and blocks but I dont know what the big deal is....I guess they want it to be easy and reverse every move but where is the fun in that? I dont know if it will have anything like Day of Reckoning where you got graded for the match and cash for it as well but everytime I steamrolled through an opponent I always ended up w/ less cash...The controls are great, I dont think I could ever go back to using buttons again it just flows so nicely to grapple and then take down your opponent and putting a submission hold once he goes down..It just flows so smooth....

It took me hours, well I was use to the controls but I could only do like 4 moves until I found out to hold in the RB button when grappling to do the power moves...Then the fun was had...I love that game, here is an interesting tidbit of information regarding WWE and THQ.

The following is a press release on the legal battle between THQ and WWE: AGOURA HILLS, Calif., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- THQ Inc. (Nasdaq: THQI) and THQ/JAKKS Pacific LLC (the "LLC") today announced that a lawsuit was filed on October 12, 2006 in Connecticut state court by World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. against THQ and the LLC, involving a claim previously reported in Securities and Exchange Commission filings concerning allegedly improper sales of WWE video games in Japan and other countries in Asia. The lawsuit seeks, among other things, a declaration that the WWE is entitled to terminate the video game license and monetary damages. THQ and the LLC believe the lawsuit is without merit and we intend to defend ourselves vigorously.

Once I learned how to irish whip and everything, that opened everything else up to me. Then it just became about getting the timing and "feel" down.

I'm far from being an ace, but at least I can fire the thing up and get something done and win.

I love throwing my opponent in the crowd and then when he comes out, I lay him across a table and drop off that high shelf/scaffold area.

Too bad the crowd doesn't chant "Holy sh**!" like they would in real life.

Maybe they do in the full game. ;)

Didnt they yell it in 06? I know I remember a game that says that and I am pretty sure it was a Smackdown title...Maybe it was the new demo, but then again if you are jumping off the scaffold or throwing someone off of it and it wasnt said than chances are I am probably wrong....

I dont think that would ever happen, I know you are supposed to never say never in the wrestling or the gaming business but each company wants complete control and it would be like two bulls locking horns...Vince Mcmahon vs EA I would pay to see that....Both are greedy bastards...

Plus they flopped the WCW titles (Mayhem wasnt bad actually)..I just dont think a deal would ever be agreed on...I imagine WWE/THQ will settle their dispute because from both ends they make a lot of money together and I dont think as much people would by a wrestling title from a company like EA....Backstage Assault anyone? Yes the aftertaste is still bitter from that title.

I doubt it.

I'm still praying for that day when some judge or some court gets smart and overrules this unfair NFL/EA license that the NFL should never have been allowed to do in the first place.

Of course EA would say yes to something like that. It just should never have been allowed to even get off the ground.

Yea I thought that was CRAP that EA locked up the NFL rights. I think that is a unfair practice. Especially since I thought the ESPN 2K series was getting very good. I liked it much better then Madden. Now we are at the mercy of EA since who in the right mind would release a football game without the NFL license. I guess they could the Worlf Football League.

Also Where did you all get the Demo for WWE at? I do not see it on Live. Was it a one time deal or soemthing? IF so I'm kind of pissed since my Xbox 360 died and I had to wait for them to send me a new one.

In all fairness to EA the NFL more or less sent the license to a purse bid and the biggest bidder won....Cant blame EA their blame Sega for not having enough money...Im seriously surprised at the time since the license was on the table that Microsoft didnt swoop in and purchase the NFL license...That would be a nail in the coffin of EA, EA titles werent gracing the Xbox at that time so it would have been interesting to see EA today...I am still shocked that Microsoft didnt do this.

Also Microsoft made some pretty solid sports titles from their XSN development...God their games were great.

I'm not sure what would be worse. MS having exclusivity like that would be just as bad if not worse than EA.

The entire concept should not have been allowed at all, regardless of company.

I didnt think Fever was that bad but Links/amped/Top Spin/NHL Rivals/Inside Drive were all solid sports titles....

While I agree it shouldnt happen, I am still surprised Microsoft didnt do this at the time since it probably would have been a great move for the company to tout around the license plus with Halo...But if it was me I would have gave SEGA the money and make the 2k series exclusive to the Xbox. :D To argue that this shouldnt be done though, the same can be said for wrestling titles...But NFL/EA are a bunch of pricks anyways so let them have each other...I read an article the other day and they said the NFL Players couldnt wear cleats not endorsed by the NFL...Maybe this is old but that shouldnt be allowed....I hate the business world.

What I found strange is if you go to Demos and look for it, it is not there under any of the Genre's or titles. Go figure. its to bad it will take a few hours to download. I wish I had a faster connection then my 768K DSL speed.

In all fairness to EA the NFL more or less sent the license to a purse bid and the biggest bidder won....Rumored heavily that EA had been trying to plant the idea of exclusivity for years and the NFL finally relented. The rumors are given more credibility by the news that EA then went to the NBA to try to make a similar deal. (The NBA, in its wisdom, shot the idea down.) Still, the No Fun League is not without blame in the matter either.

Im seriously surprised at the time since the license was on the table that Microsoft didnt swoop in and purchase the NFL license...That would be a nail in the coffin of EA, EA titles werent gracing the Xbox at that time Actually, EA has been aboard the Xbox since the beginning of the console (NASCAR Thunder 2002 was released in November 2001). It wasn't until May 2004 that EA and Microsoft announced that EA's titles would be playable on Xbox Live; the NFL-EA exclusivity deal was announced in December 2004.

Well blame the NFL for being such tools...It wasnt bad business for either one of them really just damaging to the customers...Once again even if EA did put the bug in the ear can you blame them still for having the most money? While shady they did offer a fair chance for anyone to come up with the biggest bid...Unfortuantely that was EA, well at the time it looked good because Madden was a solid title....Much cant be said for this years though...2006 is still the best via PS2.

Thanks for the clarification I was under the impression that EA sports titles werent on the Xbox at all...I wonder how much that boosted sales for the Xbox Live service and the EA games when they were enabled online???? XSN still had better servers and had online leagues which is still better than EA. :)

ok, got the demo downloaded and tried it out. Graphics look good and it feels pretty smooth. There is a learning curve here thats for sure. How and the heck do you break a pin? I get pinned everytime!

I'm having fun with it. Although I need to figure out my finishing move when my meter is flashing.

Review is up. Only an 8.1, I was hoping it'd be better. No way to update rosters online, almost "unbearable" load times, and bad clipping. Not to mention the PS2 supports 6 players online but the 360 only 4. Bummer.

The clipping is really bad. I havent played a wrestling game in a LONG time tho, so this was pretty fun to play. Found it at frys yesterday and just bought it, i like how the story line is for the single player with the drama and the intros are really awesome looking. Clipping is severely distracting tho, i cant believe they couldnt get around that with better collision detection.

Loading time is annoying, but i got over it. Doesnt bother me too much.

Ok I picked this game up tonight and am trying to create a Superstar. I get some stuff down and when I go into the masks selection the game locks up. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm going to have to restart the superstar for the 3rd time! So this time I'm staying out of that area. Can someone confirm this on their disc to see if mine is bad? I did a google for this game and have read lockups for other reasons.

Thanks,

Jason

It's a known glitch that wont be fixed...It happens occasionally....I've gotten to the point where I will trade superstars even if they are garbage and just tweak them to look better so I dont waste my time...Love the game though.

Dont expect a patch for the game ever..THQ/Yukes are in a lawsuit with the WWE...Go figure.

Ok. got my wrestler created and am playing on Easy and I still can not win a match on Season mode! I know my guy is weak, but he can not be that weak. The instructions are crap and don't tell you how to strenghthen your player up. I have some money, but not sure how to spend it on the challenge in my Locker room. Is this game setup so you loose a lot at first and work your way back into the top, or should I be winning matches from the get go? It seems the ones against Benoit and Undertaker I should loose, but Cena is kicking my butt too! I must suck.

I read about that lawsuit, but that sucks they are not patching the game. I figured they would still do patches and if this is how Yukes is going to treat me as a gamer I will not buy another one of their products again. I like the game though. :p

Rehash of the same ol crap. No new engine no new next gen gameplay and the graphics are just beefed up instead of once again having an ALL NEW GRAPHICS ENGINE. Also the ai is bad and you would not believe the cheating on xbox live with this game. Once someone gets you down. Its over. Unless you counter all day. I love wrestling games. Im just tired of buying the same smvr crap each year. I wont buy the new one due to this. So, until they redo the whole thing. Not happenin anymore.

This is the first wrestling game I have bought in a few years. I still think the best ones were on the N64 with WCW vs nWo.

If WWE does leave THQ. I just hope they do not go running to EA. I wonder if 2K could give the WWE license some new legs?

I remember playing WCW v nWo on N64 and getting horribly pounded and coming away not terribly impressed. Then again, I do have a short attention span and a propensity for controller smashing.

Smackdown! vs. Raw is the first rasslin' game I've purchased for any system. I haven't yet played online over Live, but I'm really enjoying the single-player "season" mode a lot. The controls took a lot of getting used to, and they're still really freaky in some ways, but it's been (Rob Van) damn fun. (Yes, RVD is my chosen superstar and he's been great to use.)

The Smackdown series has gotten better over the years although I still think the 2nd one on the ps1 was pretty solid...The problem with Smackdown is that it seriously is a top notch game in terms of visuals...They always have been and SvR 06 for the ps2 was just amazing looking...I feel the same way for the 360 version some of those guys running down the ramp and during their entrances just look real to me..I am impressed and have no real complaints about the game though..The new analog controls are great, it makes the matches fluid and runs smoothly if done properly if you are not cheap.

I can see your complaints and they are valid but this is what to expect when a game is released every single year....

If you want add me and we can play some matches online, I am into having a good tactical match I dont play the spear you at the beginning and just keep stomping and doing legdrops and garbage like that...I try to have a match...

I'm up for an online match. I don't mind getting pounded either. I'm still trying to figure out who I Like to use. I also need to pick which moves I like with my wrestler.

I will add you when I get back, we can get a match going...I dont mind if I get my butt handed to me either whether it be getting cheap stomped or just getting bested I just like to have a real match..I like to work the crowd and taunt and stuff like that but that gets me in trouble usually....

Aside from my CAW AJ Styles who rocks, my favorite original character is get this...JBL...Love him man, his moveset is great...I like to play as the Boogeyman but all he does is kick and punch and I think his finisher is a body slam=weak.

Is the season scripted though? It seems I can not win any matches upto when I pounded on Batista with Booker T, and then Batista and I won the Survivor series together. My wrestler is like only a 44 and everyone else is 80+ except for the women. How are you suppose to win when all takes is like 4 major shots from the other guy and my guy is dark orange all over!

Anyhow I think this game shines when I use a regular wrestler, but creating your own is a PITA. If it is scripted it would be nice to know since I hate having losses, but will deal with it. The other thing that ticks me off is when it tells me to "keep hitting any button to get up" It never seems my guy gets up. I'm hitting a button for all its worth too. Aggrevating, but fun I think.

No its not scripted and I keep losing the matches that counts as well...Best thing to do when starting out is either play GM mode and get unlimited stat points for CAW or get a character online with high stat points and go into CAW and choose edit and make a new one...Or to do it legit like I did is get your opponent outside and get count outs...Its extremely tough to win a match in season mode but I am playing it on Legend..

The keep hitting button is a joke, I usually hammer the B button and I seem to get up quicker as opposed to mashing...At the same time I will try reverse as well when down...I dont like games that are challenging because they are cheap and this game fits this category but people online play worst than the AI so I am content with single player.

Sounds like if we hook up for online play we should have a decent match. I also think if I hit the right and left triggers for getting up he gets up quicker. I beat Kennedy and Mark Henry on Pins the last two matches  So I think I am getting better at this game. It is still tough and I think the AI is cheap though.

You doubt my knowledge? Try it for yourself. :D j/k...But seriously try it its reversible and wasnt before the patch.

No confirmed source THQ just released it without any notification but these rumblings have popped up on other forums and I experienced it when before it wasnt possible.

I wouldn't be surprised you had figured that out by playing it. :D I played with my son today and he was the Great Khali and I was a few random guys. Boy Khali is pretty darn big in that game. It's nice knowing that you can always play as him and have a handicap. My son put the hurt on me a few times with his finishing move.

I wish Yukes would put a handicap feature in this game so people who are skilled do not always kick butt. I like to use whoever I like, but when I play my son I have to use weak guys so he can pound on me and have a fair fight. Either I am missing this in the options or setup, but it seems like a simple concept to put in. Heck just give the wrestlers more health or less or better attack damage. The N64 versions had this feature.

You could always adjust the sliders or turn off stamina.

I hate Khali in that game, he is ridiculous for only being rated an 84. Have you tried that Mickie James vs Khali challenge yet?

Truth be told I haven't done much for challenges or anything in the game. I generally only play it with my son or friends when they come over. I need to start playing this game more, but for some reason I have a tough time getting into it with the wrestler I created. He is so darn weak that I seem to loose more then I should. His rating is only 60 something.

You know a quick way to get a high rated wrestler is get one off of xbox live that is a 99 and everytime you want to create another character just choose him and copy him and than edit him. The stats will be maxed out but you can change their features...Beats going through the GM mode to get unlimited exp. points or playing a season....

I love that game, the online environment is ok it suits my needs. If I want to trash talk I can do that if I want to have matches I can have that to. I dont ever recall playing a wrestling game as much or as long as I have this one...I love the GM mode and love playing online...Even if you are not a wrestling fan its a solid fun game...But I can see why people can be turned off, I mean its wrestling...

I tried to get my nephew into it but he hates it and always pushes the eject button and wants to play Gears.
