I want to thank everyone for contributing to this thread and the useful statistics that it has provided others. This thread has been up and running for about 3 months now and we have over 150 members who have contributed there information. Hard to believe that many members contributing info here with out bickering eh… :)

Unfortunately I regret that I must inform everyone that this thread will not continue to be updated and will soon be closed and removed entirely. :(

I have been informed that there has been complaints that this threads multiple listings of movie titles is interfering with other members searches. I apologize to the AVS staff and any members of AVS who this may have affected.

The thread was certainly not made with ill intentions of causing any problems for anyone. I would say it was made for the complete opposite in hopes of being productive and being able to provide more info to everyone here.

Do you two even have enough time to watch all those movies?
I'm 150 movies behind for both formats. But I like to have a selection since I never know what I'll be in the mood to watch. Even if it's a movie I really want to watch I need to be in the right mood to watch that type of movie(40 year old Virgin is a good example. i've wanted to watch it for a while but haven't been in the right mood for that type of movie). The other day i watched Chronicles of Riddick again and I watched End of Days.

They are all movies I want to see or have seen and will watch again. I have over 150(between both formats) I haven't watched yet(I haven't watched Norbit yet). I like to have a good selection since I never know what I'll be in the mood for. Norbit made 158 million world wide so someone must have liked it. It made 95 million in the US. Although there are many excellent movies that only made a fraction of that.

Aaron gets my nomination for number one HD supporter by putting his money (and lots of it) where his mouth is! That's an incredible collection there Aaron! :cool:

Just for fun: 14 Blu Ray Discs owned. Lately my goal is to buy every HD DVD I want and then get back in to BD again. I plan on buying about 10 HD DVDs of the titles either announced or already out... if more titles get announced, that number will rise. When the universal combo titles finally go hd dvd only i'll buy a BUNCH of them. By comparison I have about 10 BD discs announced or out that I am looking at.

It's weird sonce I still slightly prefer BD and yet I spend more money on hd dvd.

So check this out, I took down 20 DVD's, the value of which amounted to $88, then I got an extra $44 for trade in credit, for a total of $132.

Well they have a deal right now, buy ANY 3 used movies, get one free, and HD-DVD's falls under that category.

So I picked out 8 HD-DVD's, and ended up just about even.

So 20 crappy SD-DVD's were converted to 8 HD-DVD's for absolutley no cost to me!!!

Concerts, TV Series, and your crappiest movies like Porky's or Big Mamma's House, LOL.

My 20 DVD's consisted of 5 concert DVD's, and 10 Crap DVD's like the Non Remastered Version of movies like Casablanca etc. And they took all of them, averaging out to just over $4 each in credit.

Now I must say, I only expected a 20% Premium for wanting Trade in instead of cash, when she gave me 50% instead of 20 I was like, hell yeah.

BTW, you can use the store credit in the store, or you can use it online at FYE.com.

The Store selection of HD-DVD and Blu Ray is only used, they don't have any new ones, which is very odd, buy they did have about 25 used HD-DVDs and about 50 used Blu Ray movies to choose from.

But again, you can use it online at fye.com where they have a lot of used HD-DVD's and Blu Ray.

HOWEVER WARNING:::: The price at fye.com for new hd-dvd and blu ray is extremely high, so if you don't like used, this may not be the place for you.

One other note, all 8 of my used HD-DVD's were absolutely pristine.

Not only that even the cases were all in very good condition.

I attribute this to 2 things, they are very picky, and will only take nearly perfect discs.

And secondly, Kudos to you HD-DVD owners for keeping your cases and discs in good condition.

One question for you guys that have pretty much all the HD-DVD's:

How do you justify spending $25 (+/-) a pop for movies that suck? Do you really have that much money that you don't care about what you buy? Or are you just the collection type, who likes to have all the movies, regardless of whether they are good or not/you are going to watch them?

I'm not saying that all the movies are bad. I'm just wondering how you can buy movies like Norbit and House of Wax. To me, that's just a waste of money.

Wow this weekend make 10 months this thread has been running now.

Considering that we tried to keep everyone to re-editing there original post over & over, and that we went this long with virtually no format fighting is pretty unique

Because some posts were off or members not returning the thread did need some cleaning in order to continue otherwise it was taking me over an hour each time to tally up the right counts for everyone.

The staff also thought that are repeated listing of titles would mess up searches under those movie names so I sort of gave up on the thread.

It seems a few (those with the most outrageous collections :D ) continue to revive it though...

I'm not sure if starting a new thread would be the answer or not. I think we would eventually run into the same problem unless someone had rights to clean and moderate the thread.

Perhaps another type solution such as one of those online dvd library type things and then a link to it in the sigs. Anyone have any sugestion?

I could make a standard web site or sometype of database if needed but Im sure these type of things probably already exist.

96 here i don't know about you guys but i like blu ray but can't find enough good movies too buy. I have to admit though 5th element looks amazing.

^ I've found that lately for HD DVD (well, I did just buy 4 new titles this past week). I've had HD DVD since November and have 48 titles, I went Blu in March/April and have 40 titles - so it depends on personal taste I guess!

I've only paid full price for one movie out of it too thanks to FYE (hopefully they'll do another buy one get one used sale soon). :) In fact A Scanner Darkly I just purchased today "used" for $4.50 and it still has the security seals intact. There are a couple of those free South Park HD DVDs in there somewhere. My 5 free from Toshiba. About a dozen I got at CompUSA for 40-50% off when they were going out of business. $19.99 Matrix. A few sales and then you've got this...

Well I'm up to 104 titles, that includes the South Park HD DVD. Counts the Smallville Season 5 and Planet Earth sets at one title. Counts the Matrix box set as 3 seperate movies.

Was at 83 last month when I took the picture. Cleaned up @ FYE with the $5 off coupons and 40% off used promo this past week (including the $24 that that Smallville box set cost me). I bought about 10 titles when my girlfriend had the 20% off b-day on the backstage pass, and they were running buy 3 get one at the time so I got 8 with that and 2 new releases. Had $5 Borders bucks and a 30% coupon last week, snagged Backdraft with that (what can I say, I like fire :)). I'll have $5 more borders bucks coming next month, so I'll get at least one title there. All promos factored in I've paid full price at Best Buy for 2 movies out of that. Almost everything else except Planet Earth and Smallville were under $20.

I don't think I'll ever catch up with you. And pretty soon you are going to pass me in BD titles if you haven't already.

I haven't caught up to you yet on the BD side but that 3 for 2 sale recently helped me kick start my collection.

Time for a post from me...

Wow this weekend make 10 months this thread has been running now.

Considering that we tried to keep everyone to re-editing there original post over & over, and that we went this long with virtually no format fighting is pretty unique

Because some posts were off or members not returning the thread did need some cleaning in order to continue otherwise it was taking me over an hour each time to tally up the right counts for everyone.

The staff also thought that are repeated listing of titles would mess up searches under those movie names so I sort of gave up on the thread.

It seems a few (those with the most outrageous collections :D ) continue to revive it though...

I'm not sure if starting a new thread would be the answer or not. I think we would eventually run into the same problem unless someone had rights to clean and moderate the thread.

Perhaps another type solution such as one of those online dvd library type things and then a link to it in the sigs. Anyone have any sugestion?

I could make a standard web site or sometype of database if needed but Im sure these type of things probably already exist.

I think instead of having everyone edit their original posts or posting their entire collections again, just have them keep their original list, and every time they want to make changes just make a new post with the new titles that they got (ideally in blocks of 5 or whatever to keep the post count down). No real reason to post entire collections two/three/four+ times, just posting what was added would take a lot of strain and guesswork out of it.

DVDspot has a friends feature I think, but I'm not sure how conducive that would be to having a detailed online database for everyone like this.

I just repost my entire collection and delete my previous post. I've been doing that for the last few months. That way it doesn't get cluttered with mutilple collection posts from me, plus it raises the thread since it has a new post.

Plus I use these collection threads to keep track of all my preorders. I've purchased a few duplicates in the past 18 months and the collection threads have really helped me keep track of everything I've ordered and purchased to prevent duplicate purchases.

Bob: Have you any problem with Planet Earth. I ordered from Amazom and it will not play on my Toshiba HD-A1. They are sending a replacement, however I fear the same condition. Advice?

Went to FYE today, tried to buy a used copy of We Are Marshall, get to the register and rang up 20% off with the backstage pass. Well they were running some sort of promo, so I ended up buying 5 other movies as well.

I didn't realize there were that many titles out there. Over here, in the UK, the BD/HD-DVD selection doesn't seem to be moving as fast as in the states. Oh well, I'll be home for xmas. Gonna load up!

I watched the 10 disc Star Trek set in about 6 days and 7 nights. Shrek 3 is my only unviewed disc out of 143. It won't last long. I did get a head start on most of ya'all. I got an A1 the week it came out.

still, wow, before i stopped buying DVD I had about 300 movies in total and I was an 2nd month out early adopter back then!
You know though I probably wouldn't be complaining/whinining ( :rolleyes: ) if I had half a theater set-up that people on this site seem to have. If someone is a reviewer for a website or newspaper then I would understand the shear amount of movies, but someone on a "normal" budget probably couldn't hang out with y'all. I should know. I once bought Bomberman Land for the N64 with my last $20! :eek: Didn't even have monies for gas that week! :p

I stopped buying DVD's for the most part back in the fall of '02 when I saw D-Theater tape....and got one. By the time HD discs got here, I had alot of pent-up desire to collect video discs again, in ernest. The pickin's is finally good again.....'an I have one thing in common with Chauncey Gardner....." I like to watch" . ;)
