There have been a few. One last year was in a shot at the bar where one of the beer taps was labeled "HD Beer" - it was only visible in the 16:9 cut.

A few more were in the photocopy shop and during his father's campaign for mayor. I think one or more of them said something like "HD Rocks".

Earlier in this thread I think there are some links to a site that shows them.

The producers have said that this year they're going to be getting away from "The List" being the prime plot mover every week. I guess they figure it's limiting their comedic plot possibilities, or something.

Interesting...

I hope this doesn't have the opposite effect because "the List" is one of the things I thought made the show very unique and funny. I think he has something like 300 or so items so it would be a stretch to think they'd ever reach that many shows...

archiguy

Sure, it's just that every episode will no longer involve Earl crossing something off the list (I'm sure there will still be a number of them that do just that). They want to branch out and explore other comedic possibilities without that built-in limitation.

One of the things I love about this show is how far they'll go to set up a bad pun. Look at how much it took to set up that "I won't jump for Joy." pun, it's classic.

Perhaps it's a coincidence, but the open for this week's show was only 2 seconds. It was just the last two seconds of full open -- all it had time to say was, "My Name Is Earl." At first I thought my affiliate got to it late, but no, it was preceded by NBC's announcement of what else was coming on later.

I do too and I will be watching them both as well, but if I had to choose Earl gets it.

It seems to have enough raw humor to if it were to be a movie actually get an "R" rating yet still meet broadcast TV standards.

Liked the ending, the comment where Randy said something to the effect that he'd like to shoot police with vodka before they arrested him so they'd be nicer and Earl said "you'd only get the chance to do that once.;)"

Too bad we couldn't hear the dialog in Salt Lake City, HD version that is, center chanel was missing.

Music was good though through the L/R and surround speakers.

I had to watch the SD backup I recorded on my other TiVo since I couldn't hear the dialog from my HD TiVo.
Eventually I synced up the audio from the SD TiVo and watched video from my HD TiVo.

My vote is: Merge! Always fun to re-read comments from the first season. It's pretty easy to tell where one season ends and another begins, so I don't see the utility in starting a new thread for each season.

Agree with the posters who thought this was one of the better episodes of 'Earl', maybe the best one since "Joy's Wedding". This was the first real "Randy-centric" episode in awhile and he was just hysterical, especially when he was dressed in all those outlandish costumes. We were rolling on the floor.

lol classic. i still remember when she was talking about her mother dying in an episode last year

something like,

catalina: yeah, that's how my mother died
earl: catalina, i'm sorry
catalina: don't be, it was either her or me

my personal best line of the night goes once again to randy

randy: you like these pants? they're full of zippers. i bet you'll never guess what's in this zipper... it's licorice
girl: maybe later i'll find out what's in the other zippers
randy: more licorice

lol

and the drunk friend who's always wearing the speedos always cracks me up too.

this show is quickly becoming a classic for me after just 1 1/4 seasons...

NBC Recreates Two-Hour Thursday Sitcom Block:
NBC will return to its Thursday roots with a two-hour sitcom block, effective on Nov. 30. My Name is Earl and The Office will remain in the 8-9 p.m. hour, followed by the return of Scrubs at 9 p.m., and the relocation of Wednesday anchor 30 Rock to Thursday at 9:30 p.m. Deal or No Deal, currently airing at 9 p.m., will be pared down to two times per week (Monday and Friday at 8 p.m., respectively), while current Wednesday 8:30 p.m. occupant 20 Good Years, which never even had 20 good minutes, will go on an indefinite hiatus. NBC will fill the Wednesday 8 p.m. hour with repeats and specials effective on Nov. 22. Thankfully, this means we will not have to hear John Lithgow SCREAMING anymore!

After reading the posts here, I checked my Comcast DVR to see if it was set to record. It wasn't, even though the show was listed as new. I set up the recording and it recorded. After the show, I got a call from my son asking me to burn it to DVD because his Tivo didn't record it from the LA DNS feed. Good episode, but I think they cheated on Crabman's backstory.

I thought that when Crabman came to the city under the witness protection program that he came from a different city (since it would seem to defeat the purpose of taking a new identity in the same small town).

Which reminds me, haven't they cheated on Catalina's background too? Sometimes she's said she wasn't from Mexico but they went back to Mexico to get her in that one episode.

I guess the writers are smoking too much dope and can't remember the backstory or maybe they think the viewers are smoking so much dope that they won't remember the backstory.

Been damn worried about the show as the writing had dropped into weak sentimental morality tales and lacked the funniness of what is inbred in the characters, pardon the pun.

The Cops episode is destined to be a classic. Haven't laughed out loud like that multiple times on any TV show like that in memory.

It had everything but the ever so lovely Catalina into the storyline. (The Mexico trip was a particularly lame episode.)

Last night's "My Name Is...Earl/Joy/Randy/Crabman 4-stories" episode may have been the best one yet! :)

Great premise. Suberb delivery. And I love how it all melds together. It had far better timing and fluidity than the last episode, which seemed a bit stiff and awkward to me. Personally, I didn't get what all the fuss was over the "Cops" episode two weeks ago, and I find it hard to belive nobody has written about last night's show, save for myself.

For some strange reason I think "My Name is Crabman" would be a more interesting show. "I've never told her, but that bitch is crazy".

The crabman line about "that bitch is crazy" was an instant classic but for best obscure reference I liked the one Earl said:

If the two fat twins from the Records book could have a motorcycle than why couldn't he.

Funny thing is, the show could actually survive and do well being called any of those titles and/or centering on someone else. Earl is probably the least entertaining of all the characters, he's more of the fabric that binds them, along with the list.

Wow, Earl is really on a roll lately: The Cops episode, the My Name is Earl/Randy/Joy/Crabman/Dottie episode (an all-time classic, I think), and now this one. I thought the show was trending down a little this season -- fewer peeing-my pants moments like "I even showed him my good boob!" -- but this is a really good sign. I like that they're mixing things up a little without changing what's so special and funny about the show: all the characters. Someone said the show is really about the people living in Camden County, and I think that's right. The show is so filled with weird, funny characters, and it's good to see a little more of them.

Earl is great, but there is one aspect that I think it's not as good as it used to be.

Catalina has been dumbed down.

In the first season, she was sassy and intelligent, often rolling her eyes at Earl/Randy or guiding them down a better path with good advice on the situation they were in.

Now, she's sort of trashy and dumb. A perfect example was in the funeral parlor when they showed her dancing next to the coffin. The previous Catalina would've never done that, she would've had more class and good sense to disrespect the dead like that.

Not a big deal, just something I've noticed since Catalina was once one of my favorite characters on the show. Oh well, at least she's still smoking hot. :D

I am recording what they re-run, but, if possible, I would like to get the missing episodes, and watch in order.
