View Full Version : HT Demo torrents?
I know about the HT demo tree thread, but has anybody made torrents of the demo discs anywhere? I was running into trouble with the ftp downloads, and that demo tree thread is huge! (and off topic for this request)
If this doesn't belong on these forums, feel free to delete... If someone did make torrents, it would be much easier to find if they replied to a new thread.
titch-- 09-30-06, 04:56 PM I second that there should be a torrent started. :D
tiggers 10-02-06, 12:55 PM I trice the request :)
Torrents would be much easier to do, for me at least, and would eventually take the load off the original FTP.
titch-- 10-02-06, 03:52 PM I second that to. :)
Torrents were tried, and failed. Not enough seeds.
thefreeauction 10-02-06, 11:08 PM I have most of the demo discs downloaded and was thinking of putting them up on a torrent site. I usually have my ********** client running 24/7, and thought it would be a good idea. If enough people seeded after they got done downloading it would work. Problem people don't seed enough... I could upload mine and we could try it...
See this thread:
Crap! can't post URLs... Just search for bob4432 and the ht demo tree thread should come up, with info on his tracker.
Definitely would help to get some more seeds on there. I'm just starting to grab stuff... And will hopefully have disc 2 downloaded from ftp in a day or two, so that I can seed that torrent...
VorlonFog 10-03-06, 09:32 AM I'll need to PM swithey to get FTP access and pull things down, but once I have them I can setup a seed on my fileserver at home (it's on a DSL line.)
VorlonFog 10-11-06, 08:06 PM Okay, I got my DSL configuration problems worked out, and I finally finished downloading Disk 1. I've got it seeded as D1-Demo.iso, so hopefully you can see it using your BT client of choice.

VorlonFog, have you upoaded this to a torrent site so people can search, find, and download it? Otherwise I no one can get it...

VorlonFog 10-13-06, 09:57 PM VorlonFog, have you upoaded this to a torrent site so people can search, find, and download it? Otherwise I no one can get it...
I'm using the latest Azureus 2.5.0.0 with the distributed tracker built in. Search for torrents named D1-Demo.iso and you should find it. Otherwise, here's what Azureus shows for the tracker URL:
Distributed tracker link (dht://EF50C526CFD416AAF9E3E75F7DEDBCB0B75EF355.dht/announce)
Edit: I've also posted my .torrent file to ISOhunt
Brad Horstkotte 10-13-06, 10:32 PM Aren't you going to upload the .torrent file somewhere, otherwise there's no way to actually open the torrent and start downloading, or seeding.
Edit: oops, I see you just edited your post while I was posting this - never mind, I'll go check ISOHunt, and if I can get it, I'll seed it as well. Can't find it yet, but will try again later, maybe ISOHunt has some kind of latency updating?
thefreeauction 10-13-06, 11:06 PM I just searched for it on ISOhunt and can't find it either, I think it might take a while to get indexed... I'll try back later.
I downloaded most of the files from Swithy's FTP server, burned 'em to dvd and then deleted them from my hard drive to free up space. I might rip em back to my hard drive and upload them as torrents, though I don't know if I can do them all at once (not enough hard drive space). If we get enough people doing this it would work pretty smooth....
VorlonFog 10-14-06, 09:12 AM It looks like I can't get a decent download rate from Steve's FTP server if Azureus is seeding, even when it's throttled back. I may just focus on downloading the first ten ISO files before I continue seeding.
tiggers 10-14-06, 11:43 AM I found the torrent file and downloaded that. But when I start it I get an error:
Torrent Error
File: D1-Demo.iso
Files missing from file. Please recheck.
? I tried downloading the torrent twice with the same error.
I found it and it is downloading for me. Though with only one seed it says it will be done in just over 6 days :(
Good thing I leave my PC on 24/7
I tried searching for it on Isohunt and my came back with zero resullts can someone post a link
Brad Horstkotte 10-17-06, 11:25 PM I have downloaded, burned and tested the following demos, and seeded the iso files - here are the torrents I created, let me know how they work out - I'll edit this post with new ones when I have them.
D1-Demo.iso.torrent (http://www.horstkotte.us/torrents/D1-Demo.iso.torrent)
D2-LFE-Demo.iso.torrent (http://www.horstkotte.us/torrents/D2-LFE-Demo.iso.torrent)

D12-Demo2.iso.torrent (http://www.horstkotte.us/torrents/D12-Demo2.iso.torrent)
In order for this to work, those who download are going to also have to seed them for a little while, otherwise the torrents will rot (plus with more seeds, they will download faster for all). So, if you can spare the disk space and bandwidth for a while, don't immediately delete the torrent files, and keep your ********** client running, so others can benefit.
Edit: Added D4, D5, D6 torrents

Great, I can't wait to get home and try them out.
Do you have a description of what each one contains?

No sorry, I forgot to grab that doc from the FTP server before getting going on downloading the actual isos. I'll see if I can pull it down and put it somewhere.
Brad Horstkotte 10-18-06, 06:38 PM Hopefully once a few people have downloaded and are seeding, this will go a little quicker - as it is, the downloads are slow as molasses. I had to throttle a little to try to get my bt client to not interfere with my VOIP service, when its running, I keep dropping calls and getting fast busy signals, not good. I was able to download 2-3 of the demo ISOs per day via FTP, looks like with one seed, these will take a couple days each.

VorlonFog 10-19-06, 06:06 PM Okay, I've got all of DVD's 1, 2, and 3.
How do I get a torrent file posted to Bob's tracker?
(because disk 3 isn't on his tracker)
Brad Horstkotte 10-19-06, 07:30 PM How big are they?
2 GB - 4GB - big.

I think you could download the .torrent files I created, and import them, maybe it will figure out that you've got the associated .iso files if they're in the right folder to being with?
Oh, and who is Bob? I used a free tracker I found online.
titch-- 10-19-06, 10:41 PM Trying to get disk 6, but only 1 peer. :(
Brad Horstkotte 10-19-06, 11:52 PM Trying to get disk 6, but only 1 peer. :(
Yeah, kind of a chicken and egg thing though, if people keep starting, seeing its slow, and then giving up, there will only ever be 1 or 2 peers. Maybe I put up too many torrents at once.
At this very moment, there are 4 peers on D5, and 3 on D11 - maybe if everyone teams up on a torrent or two at a time. Or maybe this will pick up once we have a couple more seeds. Or maybe the group size is just too small, and we'd be better off setting up an FTP mirror or two. Let me know your preferences.

If you already have some of the iso files and want to help seed them, here's a snippet from the uTorrent FAQ (http://www.utorrent.com/migration_guide.php) that shows how to do it (assume it would be similar with other bt clients):
Loading torrents in µTorrent
Loading a single torrent for seeding is simple enough provided you know the location of the .torrent and the files.
In µTorrent, click File > Add Torrent (no default save)
Browse your way to the .torrent file you wish to seed and select.
Browse your way to the folder where the files are located and select the folder.
The torrent should appear in the torrent window and load (you will see the % climb up as µTorrent checks the file).
VorlonFog 10-20-06, 05:34 AM I think you could download the .torrent files I created, and import them, maybe it will figure out that you've got the associated .iso files if they're in the right folder to being with.Yup, that's what I did with Azureus. It seems to be working okay. FWIW / FYI, I'm seeding Disks 1, 2, and 3 and currently downloading Disk 4 from swithey's FTP server. As soon as it's complete I'll start it seeding, too.
I am seeding the D1 trailer. I am still downloading the other, but I have azerus up 24/7 so I have no problem leaving these up for all to download.
mbgonzomd 10-20-06, 10:51 AM Ahh, what is a torrent? Sorry for the stupidity, but reading this thread is like reading another language...torrents, seeds, peers, azerius. Then again, I don't know how to text message on my cell phone :)

BitxxTorrent (I stick the xx's in there because ********** is a dirty word on this forum because of piracy issues) is a peer-to-peer system for sharing files. A torrent is the file that describes a file or group of files - you download that file, and that gives information to the tool you're using (such as Azereus or uTorrent) on how to connect to other PCs that have all or parts of the file(s) you're trying to download - it then connects to those PCs, and reassembles the file(s) for you on your machine. Its kinda like a distributed FTP - kinda.
titch-- 10-20-06, 11:29 AM Disk 6 has 1 seed now and 4 peers. If it can stay like that for awhile till I can get it all, Ill seed it for a week so others can get it. Just remember for the peers that get it all to stay on for awhile afterwards. :)
I'm currently downloading (and seeding the parts I have) of D1, D2, and D6. Fwiw, I used the torrents linked above.
D1 (11%) has lots of up and down, but so far no upload at all on D2 (4%) and D6 (11%). Oops, finally got some activity on D6...
D1- 3.9 GB
D2- 2.1 GB
D3- 4.2 GB
D4- 3.2 GB
D5- 4.0 GB
D6- 3.1 GB
D10v2- 3.6 GB
D11- 4.3 GB
D12- 3.9 GB
The sizes are important for those of us that don't have gynormous local discs. E.g. I have to put of these on network storage.
Btw, I'm using BitxTorrent 4.0.4. How does one check for number of seeders and downloaders without using an exchange like Isohunt? I don't find D1-Demo on Isohunt, and Jabberwalker is down.
currently downloading Disk 4 from swithey's FTP server.
What's the address (assuming anonymous ftp is allowed)?
VorlonFog 10-20-06, 03:18 PM What's the address (assuming anonymous ftp is allowed)?
Steve doesn't allow anonymous access. PM 'swithey' for all the information.
Just so everyone knows:
I'm committed to seeding all the ISO files I download for several weeks. I leave Azureus running 24/7 and only throttle it back while I'm actively downloading (which is usually evenings Eastern time.)
titch-- 10-20-06, 05:45 PM D6 has 2 seeds and 5 peers. Keep em comming. :)
D6-DTS-Demo.iso.torrent (http://www.horstkotte.us/torrents/D6-DTS-Demo.iso.torrent)
Brad Horstkotte 10-21-06, 02:14 PM Woo 9 seeds on D1 right now - what are the speeds looking like for those who are downloading (I can't really tell, since I'm just seeding), any better? I had to throttle back a little on my end though, it was killing my VOIP connection, since I'm seeding 9 at a time right now - I have more I can seed (I have D1-D16, from swithey so far), but I've been holding back until these stabilize (have more seeds).
Anyone have a handle on the mapping between swithey's FTP demos and the ones on Bob's torrent site? Some are obviously the same, based on file sizes, but looks like quite a few are different.
I was also concerned that I had made a mess of things after seeing Bob's torrents (which I didn't find out about until yesterday) - but fortunately, the bt clients are smart enough to figure out when two different torrents are seeding the same thing - it just added him tracker to my torrents when I downloaded ones that pointed to the same ISO.
There's also 5 seeds on D2 (LFE Demo), and 4 seeds on D5 (All-In-One Demo).
The items on Bob's site that are labelled DTS demos are different than the HT demos on the FTPs as far as I can tell.
VorlonFog 10-22-06, 09:44 AM I've edited the torrent files for Demo DVD 3 and Demo DVD 4 and posted them to Bob's tracker. I'm also seeding both of them. ;)
slaxer07 10-22-06, 12:29 PM Just started seeding disc 1 and 2
Just wondering how fast everyone's connections are going. Right now I am getting 4.6 kbps on D10 amd 2.7 on D-11. At those rates, each will finish in 3 days, I have already been downloading for 3 days. I still have about six more in the queue :(
titch-- 10-22-06, 11:58 PM I just wondered for the guys who have listened/watched some of the disks already, which ones did you like the best?
thx

Yeah, I am having problems getting Demo #2 and #5. The tracker states that there are 4 seeders and I am the only leecher, however, it is slowing coming over at 10kbs. Demo 5 has another 3 days left after running for 24 hours.
I got demo #1 in about a day and now seeding, however there are no leechers. So, if anyone out there needs #1, now is a good time to start'er up.
My connection here at home provides me with 11mbs down and 1mbs up.

VorlonFog 10-23-06, 08:08 AM Just finished downloading Disk 5 this morning, so I'm now seeding DVDs 1 through 5.
VorlonFog 10-23-06, 05:49 PM Demo DVD 8 is now finished downloading, and I've posted the torrent file to Bob's tracker. If anyone else has this complete ISO file, please add the torrent to your tracker so there will be more people seeding it. Thanks! :)
Keith, please update the torrent links in the post above.
Anyone else notice how much faster uTorrent is than bit[t]Torrent?
VorlonFog 10-27-06, 06:53 PM Working on it . . . ;)
electr0n 10-27-06, 06:55 PM I'm assuming there isn't much activity here because everyone is watching their new HT Demos!!! Woot!
I just got D1 and D4 and burned them and checked them out. They are very impressive! I want to thank everyone who made this possible. I'm looking forward to getting the others (6 more days for D10 LOL).
I'm seeding D1 and D4, it's the least I can do for all the great work that was put into these. The demo discs are awesome. Keep seeding and pass the love!
VorlonFog 10-27-06, 07:23 PM Keith, please update the torrent links in the post above.

Darknyt 10-27-06, 11:39 PM Hi all -
I'm currently seeding DTS Demo 3,4,6, and 10 as well as Music Demo 2 and the THX WOW Demo.
I don't mind leaving my connection up overnight and will try to keep these seeds going for a while. Though over the past few days I've been seeding I haven't seen more than 20% share on any seed.
Just my way of saying thanks, esp for the DTS demo's as they are harder to find. The ftp site was a great way to get all the others.
I am getting 1-12 and 16. I will seed for 2 weeks hope this will help!
VorlonFog 10-28-06, 03:22 PM It sure will help, thanks!! I can only transmit out 20 to 25 KBytes/sec without killing my DSL connection, and I'm allowing six torrents simultaneously. It's slower loading for everyone, but it means more people are able to get (and also share!) the files. I'm 25% complete downloading DVD 13 right now, so I should be able to post a torrent for it sometime Sunday evening.

I had to anyway.
VorlonFog 10-28-06, 09:11 PM Welllllllll . . . . Since Bob is out for a few days for some minor surgery and recuperation, and since I've only got upload privileges for his tracker, but not management privileges, I'll go waaaayyyyy out on a limb and give you this link:
My Azureus tracker (http://74.245.45.54:18904/index.tmpl)
If it starts getting hammered and my lovely spouse complains about the net being too slow, I'll have to kill it, though. ;)

James Mos 10-28-06, 09:36 PM So how do I seed the files thru Bob's Torrent Tracker? I'm pulling them down now but obviously want to seed them after I get them....

If you simply leave the files open in your Bit Torrent client, it should automagically seed them so long as they are available. When you want to stop seeding, just remove them from your Bit Torrent client.
VorlonFog 10-29-06, 09:03 AM I've uploaded Demo DVD 13 to Bob's Tracker, and updated my earlier message.

sck3004 10-31-06, 06:58 AM hi,
ty for seeding . i download now too , after i will seed the files with all dsl power ;)
i love dts demo disc .
steve053 10-31-06, 08:46 AM Just ran across this thread for the first time. All I can say is EXCELLENT! Have just set up my 1st home theater and was looking for some demo disks.
I'll give the torrents a try and post my speeds latter tonight.
Steve
electr0n 10-31-06, 02:32 PM I've got D1, D2 and D4 and they are all amazing. Thanks so much! It's nice to be able to show off my modest Home Theater using these discs.
I'm currently seeding them all - enjoy! I'll seed the others when they are complete. This forum rocks!
VorlonFog 10-31-06, 04:42 PM The more seeders we have, the less load it is on everyone's connection. If you can keep your torrents open for at least one or even two weeks after you complete downloading them, we'll all benefit. ;)
dnddwilson 10-31-06, 07:30 PM Currently seeding D5. I'll try to leave it up for a week or two. Looking forward to the rest.
VorlonFog 10-31-06, 08:22 PM I've uploaded Demo DVDs 14 and 15 to Bob's Tracker, and updated my earlier message.

VorlonFog 10-31-06, 08:35 PM I discovered this weekend my router was acting flakey. At first I thought it was because I had boosted the wireless-G transmit power, so I dropped that back to normal and rebooted it. Nope, still a problem a few hours later. Searching this evening I found out the DD-WRT and Linksys router firmwares can have a tough time with p2p clients if you don't tweak a few TCP/UDP timeout settings. Since making these tweaks, I can still surf quickly while downloading via FTP and serving out torrents via Azureus, all at the same time.
I wondered how much longer I'd be able to keep doing this if the spouse ever figured out  it was my downloading and sharing that was killing everything. Now that it seems to be corrected, I shouldn't have to worry about that. :D
sck3004 11-01-06, 03:11 AM i have DD-WRT too on my Linksys , and all fine ..
max connections on 5000 :D
i fast like hell now ( download with share and surfing ) no problem anymore.
sck3004 11-04-06, 01:30 PM D4-DD-Demo.iso is only a simple homemade dvd with dvdlab .. no original dvd like
Homes Cinemas Best dts demo disc
dnddwilson 11-04-06, 08:14 PM This thread seems to be a little newer, so maybe this is the right one to ask this question in.
First off, Bob and everyone else involved, thanks for all your hard work keeping this going.
Second. Anyone, is there a way to get these from FTP, or even posting the discs to usenet? For me, newsgroups seem to be the way to go. Or, would we rather not post them for the whole world to download. Any opinions truly welcome :)
VorlonFog 11-06-06, 06:06 AM Steve will provide the FTP info if you send him a private message. ;)
spideytech 11-07-06, 12:05 PM Can someone point me to the DVD labels and Case lables for Disc 20, disc 9 v2 and disc 10 v2? I've searched and can't seem to find them.
Thanks

steve053?
I've been using the torrents since they started and so far only have #4 downloaded. A few of them have stopped at 60% and 79%. Have people stopped seeding?
Thanks,
CJ

please contact me when this happens - i have no idea sometimes that there is an issue and just coming out of spinal surgey i am not online nearly as much, so please pm me.
i can't figure the issue out as nothing is even close to being pushed hard but it seems whenever i do i get it, if i reset apache it works fine again.
i have scoured the mysql forums and will continue to figure this out so please bear with it....sorry :(
VorlonFog 11-09-06, 06:27 AM Bob: I don't know whether you're running on a Windoze or a Linux (or even a hosted UNIX) server, but I used to have that problem with my blog server running Apache/MySQL on Windoze. It was the freakin' Windoze Update reboot thing on Tuesdays trying to shut down my server. It always screwed up the MySQL connections, but left Apache and the system running.
FWIW, I've got DVDs 1 through 18 and I'm seeding up to six of them at a time. I might scale down to four at a time to give more bandwidth to each seed, though.

i am running apache on win2k pro, but have the updates set to manual. i need to really look at the logs a bit closer.
i have about 15 dbs and even when this one is giving the can't connect issue, i can log into another site i have that runs off a db and it works fine, which is weird. i will probably look more at the php script that is running the tracker and see if it may be in their code.
thanks for the sharing and idea ;)

Hah? There's labels??
VorlonFog 11-20-06, 08:52 AM I added Demo DVDs 19 and 20 to Bob's torrent tracker this morning. :D
I have disk 9 and disk 10, but they are titled D10-Demo2.iso and D9-Demo1.iso.
I believe they are the same as what is being circulated.
Unfortunately they are on my colo freebsd machine and I can't do anything without being logged into the tracker.
I would be happy to start seeding these again (switching providers, so I don't feel bad using multi-megabits for the rest of the month :), but I don't see any easy way to do it.
I guess the first thing would be to see if they are the same files.
Tim
Hey, I'm back again, and I was having some trouble with the FTP! I managed to get D6 downloaded, but D2 refuses to complete. It stops around 98.9% on the ftp and refuses to go any further.
I moved it off and started up the D2 torrent, but there's only 2 peers and no seeds right now. Can someone seed it up and I'll keep it seeding for those that are still trying?
I only need that 1.1% seeded so I can start passing it on to the others!
:D :D

I'm interested in the demo discs, but have no idea what you all are talking about. What's a torrent & a seed?
EdL
http://shortner.com/at - wikipedia link was censored...
It's basically a file sharing system. Seeds are the peers that have a complete copy of the file, and distribute it to the other peers who haven't finished the file yet (other peers can share amongst themselves as well)
after reading through this entire thread here is some info for everbody:
http://bob4432.sytes.net:6583
it has been pretty stable with the exceptions of me messing around with setting up the server for ssl certificates for other sites that are on it. not to worry as i am going to be building another server this weekend that will deal strictly with sites that i want to run ssl on, it will be more of a test server and the one where the tracker is will be just left on all the time. sorry to those that caught it when it was down :(
as far as uploading while downloading, that is handled by the client you are using. i personally use uTorrent and give it a port that i forward through my router, this way i can d/ & u/l very well.
if you use to be on the server and notice your u/p don't work anymore, don't worry, i cleaned up the db so just re-sign up. it wasn't a personal thing at all, just maintenance.
last, the reason i chose this particular php script to run the tracker is because, well there aren't many to choose from, so i felt it was the best of the bunch. there are parts of it that could be made better, but since i don't want to code a tracker i will settle with this one ;)
as far as my surgery, i am gettting better, much better but it seems that progress is slower than when i first got home. it has taken me longer than i expected to get to where i am, but i did have neurosurgery opening up my spinal canal, so i guess i am doing pretty good considering the reality of it :).
if anybody needs to get in contact with me, it is best to do it through here as the tracker site doesn't have any mail server setup on it, so you can just pm me from here and i will get back to you.
:)
skifreak3535 01-22-07, 09:29 PM God, this stuff is amazing. I will be able to impress my friends forever with all of these discs. Nicely done guys!!!
themonk 01-23-07, 04:54 PM DLing and at 25% for DTS demo disc 2 for anyone interested. I will keep this going for some time ... there are no seeds so intially it will take me a bit to get these but I will keep it active.
GraveDilute 01-26-07, 03:21 AM Should have the LFE demo finished tonight.
Had a sneak peek already, can't wait to play on the full system.
Thanks to the efforts put in by everybody to make these discs up.
Does the DTS Demo 11 comes in regular DVD format as well ? I have seen copies on Ebay for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. If it does come in DVD format, any torrent ?
Also any link to the previous DTS Demo disk ?
I think the tracker is currently down... Anyone else having issues?

Hey there everyone!
Been lurking on AVS forever, just joined up so I could thank all of you that are still keeping these torrents alive.
I'll do my part and keep seeding as long as I can. Great demo's!
Greetings one and all ! :)
Have just started my HT and will be posting pics real soon.
Came across this thread by accident, looking for riser plans !
Anyway Would like to say congrats to Swithey. Nice job on the demo discs.
I have just downloaded all the covers and printed them off.
But have a small problem I am on dial up and would take forever to d/load
the demo discs. Anyone interested in doing them for me and I will reinburse them
and or do some return demo discs that I have .
Any takers . . . . Please ?
Should be up and running in the next 2-3 months with the new PJ
I must get rid of the CRT and the Sharp 380 old hat now I have the 8720 !

Ebe
Can someone seed the DTS8 again please ? I am only 20% done, need the other 80%.
rsmclay 03-06-07, 04:33 PM I would appreciate it if someone could seed these again. I am trying to d/l the D-1 Demo and it is going extremely slowly.
Thanks,
Rob
I'm off to my torrent machine to start dloading whichever of these are still available. I have a lovely speedy connection and I'll seed forever. Well, almost forever.
Thanks to the folks who put these together - much appreciated!
Edit: Looks like only two of the first ten are still being seeded, durnit. :(
-Adrian
Seems everyone just drops the torrent as soon as they've got theirs. That's how torrents die.
Y2KFirehawk 03-31-07, 11:37 PM are there any torrents still alive...??
are there any torrents still alive...??
