View Full Version : Dvico TViX HD M-5000 Feature Request/Bug List
Nemesis3 10-11-06, 11:00 AM Latest firmware can be found here:
http://www.tvix.co.kr/Eng/support/M5000Firmware.aspx
Coming features:
1. The ability to move files from an external hd(s)/flash drive to Tvix 5000's internal HD.
2. The ability to move files from the Tvix 5000's internal HD to an external hd(s)/flash drive. *(Source Nemesis3 via Eric with Dvico Oct 11, 2006)
3. Currently they are focusing on HDTV tuner option. *(Source Nemesis3 via Eric with Dvico Oct 11, 2006)
4. 24hr format for clock on TvIX internal display
5. Allowing audio to keep on playing when navigating other folders then the folder in which the playing file resides.
Wishlist Features:
1. UPNP
2. Menu item text to be outlined, or have an option for a different colour (like subtitles) so easier to read with a bright tvix.jpg wallpaper.
3. Buffered MP3 playback.
4. Mp3 info to include bitrate and whether a file is VBR/CBR.
5. The ability to blank the screen(completely dark) for when you are traveling and want to listen to music while you sleep and the audio is running through the TV speakers. (Source Nemesis3: Eric, with Dvico has but in a request for this feature.)
6. When navigating the HD-5000 and jumping to another source, like a shared network drive, there is no info from the VFD.
7. Slideshow + mp3s playing while in different folders. I.e the ability to select a song and it continue to play while you start a slideshow.
8. Up folder thumbnail override.
9. Automatic play if one "opens" a folder which contains a video_ts folder. This would make working with non-ISO images cleaner. Instead of opening a folder and then opening the video_ts and finally opening the .ifo file, one could simply open the topmost folder.
10. A single button means of viewing letterboxed (non-anamorphic) material zoomed out to fill the entire width of the screen in addition to the adjustable zoom. At the very least a means of storing and recalling a user set zoom would also solve the problem.
11. It would be nice if the unit automatically converted windows media audio to dolby digital. Right now the unit outputs only two channel "analog" for windows media format.
12. Video playlist support.
13. Seamless playback of segmented files without hesitation during the transition to the next segment.
14. Release the ATSC tuner add on with the following features. (*For more details see post 13 below*)
A. Front Blue LED Brightness/Dimming
B. Electronic Programming Guide
C. Recurring recordings (Weekly, monthly, etc)
D. Automatic commercial removal.
E. Time server sync. (Instead of internal clock)
15. Wake-on-LAN feature (send magic packet to specific MAC address) to wake up a server
16. Shutdown feature for server (e.g. send pcshutdown command to specific IP address)
17. Ability to play wmv 7 and 8, and
18. Play compressed files.
19. Display Time/Date on screen in large format.
19. Standard HTPC stuff, like weather data, EPG (TV channel data) via XMLTV import etc?
20. Open up the source for the HD-5000's operating system and program files.
Bug fixes:
1. In reference to firmware 1.8.5 "This version has problem to play files from USB external device, so if you play most files from USB device, we recomend not to use this version."
2. Improved MP3 playback.
3. After a prolonged period of time connected to FTP, even when you DON'T transfer any files, the 5000 hangs. (Source: Pengwyn: Known issue and being worked on Oct 10, 2006 should be in next firmware release.)
4. Screensaver activation, it only activates at the setup menu. It would be nice if it activated when the unit was on pause during a video file, while playing music and two minutes (this time limit could be made a variable) has passed, or anytime the unit displaying a video out type file and hasn't received input for X minutes.
5. Have to press return to exit out of some folders before the audio, video, photo buttons work.
6. Shoutcast playback has been reported as buggy but this new feature is only in beta.
7. Audio not working for some files unless a work around is used.
Speed tweaks:
1. Faster ftp/file transferring. (TPeterson:Most likely not going to happen.)
2. Faster picture opening.
Requested but not currently on the firmware update schedule:
1. Transfer files to the 5000 via it showing up as a shared network drive (i.e being able to transfer files to and from it without ftp).
2. An option when you store a text file in the same directory as a video file and then when you press the information button it will also show the contents of this file.
3. When you play two live-tracks musicfiles, there is a silence between the two files.
4. When you press "info" the Id3v1 tag info is displayed on your television-screen only. How about having the info scroll through the display on the TViX also. HD-5000's VFD display track info when you press the info-button... or even better: make the info button work as a toggle for the TViX's own display, for several options like: Remaining time for currently playing track, Played time for " ", Trackinfo
5. 60hz output for PAL.
Recently Done From the above list:
1. Thumbnails for photos and video.
2. Use wallpapers and thumbnails at the same time.
3. Folders are able to have a thumbnail.
4. Slideshow + mp3s playing while in the same folder.
5. Thumbnail transparency
6. Random effect slideshow doesn't have random effects(1.9).(This seemed fixed in 1.9.5)
7. Shoutcast. (Source Scandic24: Received a reply of: still in the works, Oct 9 06.)
Jofa asked about firmware being opened. Not sure if I heard this or was moved to wrong category on list by accident. Moved back to wishlist unless anyone can confirm it is open. Also would be nice the sticky up of old post and if you have any requests just toss them up in list form and I will update list. I ask this as Eric from Dvixo confirmed he read this thread some time ago and made his life easier as well, and of course we all enjoy a better product.
Can someone please confirm the following bugs before i add them to the list:
Random effect slideshow doesn't work.
What do you mean?
I can have random transitions between pictures in a directory.
There is however some weird behaviour when I want to pause the slideshow or stop it and go to another folder. But those problems (or my misunderstandings) are the same even if there is no effect or just the same.
What is it hat does not work?

Pengwyn 10-17-06, 02:47 PM Hello,
- I found a bug which I thought would be fixed in the next firmware?
It's about playing back audio-files.
When you are playing an audio-file, you can only browse in the same folder. If you navigate to another folder, your playback stops...
This is not how it should be...
Playback should continue, until you click on another file. This should be a known issue I believe, since several people brought this to your attention?
- The slideshow with music now works... Allthough it works by starting an AUDIO-file, not with starting a PICTURE-file... Still that's not a problem really... BUT... I wish I could turn the slide-show feature OFF...
Now, every time you have pictures in a folder where there are ALSO audio-files, you get the slideshow with sound... Of course the workaround would be to simply put all image-files in a separate folder, but then you won't be able to use the slide-show function anymore, unless you copy them back... Wouldn't it be possible to put a couple of toggle-states under the "function" button or something? Now it only lists "eject cd/dvd" which, for a device which HAS no option to add a CD or DVD seems a bit useless anyway...
I suggest the following options to put under the "Function" button:
Play selected (Plays the file that was selected and stops after that)
Play all (Plays every file of the same type in the folder. For instance, playing a mp3 file will ONLY play audio-files in that folder, playing an image-file, only plays all image-files in the folder)
Slideshow (Plays every track in the folder whilst showing every picture in the same folder also)
I have just noticed that the "function" button has a fuction after all, that of the "sleeptimer" but that should not be a problem. Just make it work like a playmode toggle ONLY in folder-view...
- The support for .lrc files doesn't seem to work when you are running a slideshow with music...
Would be kindof nice if it did...
- When you have a lyrics file to play with a file, the lower part of the folder-view is cleared and then the lyrics are displayed waaaay down at the bottom... This is very ugly.... Also, when you want to browse your musicfiles, the lyric-lines dissapear... I noticed the lyrica appear at the same location where normally subtitle-files appear... so you probably use that function here also... I understand that. It would be simply solved if you were to move the folder-path line up, to just above the "up folder" line... That line seems not to be in use anyway.
Then the lyrics could be displayed in just the bottom two lines of the screen, leaving the rest of the screen ontouched... Perhaps the function "play lyrics" could also be put under the "function" button? perhaps you could use a drop-down-list where multiple options could be selected or deselected...?
Related to this problem: when you are playing any audio-file of which there is NO lyrics-file present, the top pixel-line of the filepath is clipped... probably because that's the space for the subtitle/lyrics?
- It would be good if one could set not only the font color and background color for subtitles, but for ALL text that's being displayed... That way, you can use a light background, and still be able to read the file-list... This was requested before I believe by other users...
- I cannot see the files on my network share anymore, after updating to the new Firmware... Why is that? i noticed that there are now NEW options when you select the NFS mode in the network setup... How do they work? I mean, what data should I enter? I put the name of my computer that holds the network-share in it and set the server-ip to the ip-address of that computer too...
Still, it doesn't work anymore... I get "unable to connect to disk" When I try to connect...
If I find more, I'll let you know.
Kind regards,
Peng
And I forgot one, which I'm going to ask them about right away:
how about making the deafult image-format *.png for things like backgrounds, icons, etc, etc... With the alpha-channel support of course... That would solve the "transparency" issue some people talked about...
Pengwyn 10-17-06, 05:35 PM Hi nemesis,
I agree with you fully.
But was kindof hoping you'd sort it out :p you know, what's said in the other thread and soforth...
Cheers,
Peng
Pengwyn 10-17-06, 05:50 PM In your wishlist there's a request to open up the source for the HD-5000 but... they already have... They even posted the link in their manual... I'm sure I mentioned it in the other thread... The link is: http://www.tvix.co.kr/gpl/

I've verified that the scaling currently done is indeed a very nice implementation that preserves material quite well without much visible ringing. It's better than the scaling in a lot of displays.
originalsnuffy 11-06-06, 03:53 PM It would be nice if the unit automatically converted windows media audio to dolby digital. Right now the unit outputs only two channel "analog" for windows media format.
On the XBOX 360, windows media audio is automaticaly converted to dolby digital 5.1.
pantherman007 11-08-06, 04:32 PM Feature request - Video playlist support
My folder/directory structure for TV shows is like this:
share --> Television --> Showname --> Season number --> video files
This works great when there's something specific that I want to watch, especially with the new icon features. But I also want the ability to create a video playlist in the "Television" folder that could include video files in any subfolder (i.e. across different shows or seasons of shows). For example, an "Anim_Comedy" playlist that would include files from the South Park, Futurama, Family Guy, Venture Brothers, etc. A few of these in a high-level directory with random playback enabled and you've essentially got personal TV channels for different genres/combinations.
This would also allow theater-style playlists like:
1) Dolby trailer
2) Movie trailer 1
3) Movie trailer 2
4) THX trailer
5) Actual movie
1. "Feature request - Video playlist support" I second that. Currently I have setup TheaterTek to do this, play 5 random trailers followed by the custom HD intro from bitstream.
2. Seanless playback of segmented files without hesitation during the transition to the next segment.
3. Release the ATSC tuner add on with the following features
3A. Front Blue LED Brightness/Dimming
For us that have this in the bedroom trying to sleep a bright blue LED/Light can be very annoying if its recording.
3B. Electronic Programming Guide (Use schedule data from ATSC stream - PBS Station)
3C. Recurring recordings (Weekly, monthly, etc)
3D. Automatic commercial removal. Or at a minimum mark the commercials so that they can be edited out later with videoredo.
3E. Time server sync. (Instead of internal clock)

....
Amen... I would buy a couple units tomorrow if they did this.
Crivens 11-15-06, 03:35 AM Just a thought : Have all these wishlists and bugs have reported directly to the Tvix Q&A section of their site? Basically if they don't then it's very doubtful Tvix will ever know about them as they only mentioned that they look at these sites now and again, not that they do anything about the comments. We know they do things about points mentioned in the Q&A (esp. if a few people mention it).
Cheers
Does TVIX M5000 support 1080p? Website shows it supports upto1080i and does it show big difference between 1080i and 1080p? That's why I bought Eureka LX350HD. It support 1080p.
Pengwyn 12-08-06, 04:24 AM Coming Features:
- 24hr format for clock on TvIX internal display (Eric told me)
On DVICO's todo list
- Allowing audio to keep on playing when navigating other folders then the folder in which the playing file resides. (Eric told me, also a topic on the general q&a on the DVICO Main site)
Cheers.
Peng
p.s. When you have processed this new onformation, can you tell me? Then I shall remove this posting, keeping the list clean.
originalsnuffy 12-08-06, 09:08 AM In the bug list section.....
Multiple people, including me, random experience video files where the sound does not play. The workaround is to create a "dvd" using DVD Movie Factory or other software, and then the sound works. So the files are not corrupt; but something in the 5000 can't play the audio.
I would encourage TVIX to come up with a list of recommended dvi to hdmi cables to solve the green speckles issue. Also, I hope the 5500 will include hdmi output.
The idea of having the unit function as a shared drive on the network is very powerful. I find the FTP feature useful but buggy. The shared drive approach would be a great solution to many issues I have with FTP. The FTP randomly becomes slow, quits, and creates files that can only be deleted by using the direct connect usb connection.
Yes, I know this shared drive idea is on the list, but I want to underscore what a good idea it is. The less I have to remove the unit from the audio visual center the better.
I did order a 4000; I am very happy with DVICO as a vendor (I have the fusion card also and like it).
Add to wish list.....
- wake-on-LAN feature (send magic packet to specific MAC address) to wake up a server
- shutdown feature for server (e.g. send pcshutdown command to specific IP address)

Ender925 12-29-06, 10:59 AM Feature Request:
Ability to play the content stored inside rar / zip archives.
Is this even possible or is it limitation of the units processing power?
originalsnuffy 12-29-06, 08:33 PM As Crivens noted recently, it would be nice to execute the previously promised feature, where files can be transferred to/from an external usb drive without hooking up to the computer.
Crivens 01-01-07, 11:12 AM Ok, I have queried Tvix about the USB transfer again. See if there is any developments at least...
Also I noticed that my external USB drive (Buffalo ministation that only requires power from the Tvix USB port) does not turn off when the Tvix does (when on standby). This is a bit annoying as the drive is still working while the Tvix is basically off. I asked Tvix if they could turn all power off to the USB ports when the Tvix is in standby, or at least to have an option in setup.
Cheers
Anyone else want support for some standard HTPC stuff, like weather data, EPG (TV channel data) via XMLTV import etc?
Ok, how about adding playback of rar'ed files, since many ng files are rar'ed with 0 compression and only used for reassembly of the segments.
Crivens 01-02-07, 03:33 AM Ok, the USB transfer thing they replied saying that it is on the to do list but lower then other high priority items. Because Eric isn't the manager he can't say when it will be done. I dunno, would have thought is a pretty important feature. Anyone who wants it (OriginalSnuffy from above for example) then send in a request. Hopefully will raise it's priority a bit. Especially now I can't seem to get my wireless adapters (to get the Tvix working with FTP over wireless) in my new place. :(
Oh, and they reckon the USB port power is a no go as it is a hardware thing. Bit annoying that one....
Cheers
Crivens 01-05-07, 05:38 AM Yeah, for me is the single most important thing. Don't want wires all around my flat, and the USB adapters I use for wireless FTP are seriously slow (compared to USB2) and are a bit annoying (get warm and don't have an off switch unless you unplug). Don't forget though, if everyone who has mentioned it requests it in the Tvix Q&A section of their site then they will probably bump it up the priority list.
Cheers
melcahoon 01-14-07, 12:12 AM My biggest gripe is that there is no tvixhd2. Why can't we set up shares on different hard drives residing on the same PC? It frustrates me that I can only set up one tvixhd1 for a PC that has 3 hard drives with media files. THe only work around I have found is funky Junction Magic. I have a JVC pro-hd network player that allows you to share as many folders, from as many hard drives as you want.
This is almost a show stopper for me.
Steve
melchahoon:
"You can map a volume to a directory within an existing file structure,
rather than giving it its own volume drive letter. This creates a
junction from the directory to the root of that volume."
Hard and soft links are supported starting from Win2K with NTFS filesystems.
Maybe this would work for you instead of JunctionMagic?
No need for a tvixhd2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,etc... All you need is a folder in the root directory, say its D:\Shares\ and within "Shares" you map your volumes to folders
Volume1, Volume 2, Volume 3, ..., Volume 9, etc...
Pengwyn 01-19-07, 07:36 PM Ok, how about adding playback of rar'ed files, since many ng files are rar'ed with 0 compression and only used for reassembly of the segments.
Ahm... isn't this a bit of a silly request? It takes two mouseclicks to unpack rar...
Even one, if you use right-click and then extract here...
I doubt if that's worth a lot of work in the TViX coding...
Just a thought.
Note to Nemesis: the 24hr clock format has been fixed in FW 2.0.5.
Cheers,
Pengwyn
patrick37 01-20-07, 08:46 AM i really would like streaming video possible in TViX Hi Def 5000A
wouldn't it be great to play video from the net,for example youtube video's
streaming video would make TViX Hi Def 5000A a real choice between microsoft MCE and itself
Pengwyn 01-20-07, 01:04 PM I agree completely!
If one could indeed browse youtyube and then show that on your television-set... that would indeed revolutionize television...
Making shoutcast VIDEO available would already be a step in the right direction. Shoutcast oudio works perfectly, why not video?
Cheers,
Pengwyn
Is QPEL & GMC support for divx/xvid files a feasible request? I've heard that the cheap $50 phillips players can do this.
Is QPEL & GMC support for divx/xvid files a feasible request? I've heard that the cheap $50 phillips players can do this.
I think that the reason for not supporting it is due to limitations in the Sigma EM8621 chip. So I would say, no, it's not a feasible request.
The $50 phillips players don't do 1080p MEG2 on the other hand... :D

nbplopes 01-26-07, 10:29 AM My priority wish list. There are other things but this ones would be a must IMHO.
1) Ability to copy files around. Especially from and to external devices (USB Hardisks, USB Card Readers, etc). This would be great as I have a cell phone that uses USB and a PSP. A must for an OTG enabled device of this grade. I also have a portable HD that I use to carry around to work, etc etc, with such a feature I would not need to connect this thing to a PC using an USB cable anymore :)
2) Ability to use an wireless USB device.
3) Ability to mount TVIX driver as a network drive on windows XP. Can this be done with Samba? I don't know. So this may or not be a must.
4) Themes. Ability to change ui icons, menus gifs and text fonts (top menu and initial menu a must, the setup menu not really). I don't know how much of this needs to be in the firmware, it puzzles me why memory is used for this. The current user interafce looks more like it was done by an engineer, then a professional graphics designer.
These features IMHO would unlock all the potential of this box were connectivity is concerned apart from wish 4 which is more cosmetic. Less capable boxes can do them so why not this one?
I'm excited about the potential of this product but not too excited at the moment. This would be a top multimedia product three years ago, but now now as PCs are getting terrain.
Nuno
PS: Wish list for a box that is already good the group of products that it belongs to, but not yet as versatile as a PC for playing videos, music and photos. And for 400 euros (with 320 Gigs) this is 100 euros less then a PC that can do this and much more (250 Gigs, with Windows MCE or a smililar UI). The only reason I opted fot this box instead of a PC is becouse I still don't have an LCD TV.
Crivens 01-26-07, 06:58 PM Option 1 (copy files without a PC) - make sure you ask for this on the Tvix Q&A (on the tvix website). The more people that request it the more likely it will come out soon. And a few of us have asked already it looks like. Option 2 (wireless USB) looks like works with 2.0.8 FW. At least for a selected list of devices (3 confirmed apparently). Or you can use a wireless bridge like my Linksys game adapter. Works fine. Option 4 (themes) can be done partially. All icons for files, folders, upfolder icon, and wallpaper, can be changed by the user (from a connected PC). I asked ages ago about different colours for the menu text so is more readable with light wallpaper (or at least outline in black), but it was put on a very low priority list by them. With using icons instead of text now then this is less of a problem (name is at the bottom of the screen).
I have several PC's, and they don't play as smoothly as the Tvix. At the end of the day all you need is something to occupy it for a second (Virus scanner checking online for updates, or Skype checking users a bit too heavily) and you can get a freeze for a split second. Even on my more powerful machines I have seen this. Unless you can point me to a media player on a PC that dedicates 100% of the CPU to playing the file and totally does nothing else it is supposed to do then it is too annoying. Plus I know of several files that just put lip sync out or glitch when the Tvix is fine. Don't get me wrong the PCs will always win when it comes to codecs it can support, but I prefer the whole experience of the Tvix. Perhaps Vista with it's built in updated media centre might be better, but we shall see.
Cheers

Kevin Davidson 01-29-07, 02:31 AM I'm running a M4000p with 2.0.5 firmware. Excellent box. Hope the gents over at DVICO keep up the good work.
Out of bug fixes from the previous post, #3 below needs some more work. FTP is buggy at best with My Network Places and I can't make it work at all with Hummingbird Exceed FTP. I experience hangs where I can't explore the TVIX from My Net Places unless I reset the M4000. Same thing with Hummingbird + I can only explore the directories. When I try to transfer files from Humgbd it hangs.
3. After a prolonged period of time connected to FTP, even when you DON'T transfer any files, the 5000 hangs. (Source: Pengwyn: Known issue and being worked on Oct 10, 2006 should be in next firmware release.)
As far as the wish list items - I would like to see ''windows media audio is automaticaly converted to dolby digital 5.1'

Yes, this is still true.
I asked about it more recently than my quote above, but according to Eric at DVICO, It may be the problem of my ftp-client, CuteFTP...
It is -od course- rather lame to blame everything else, except your own product...
It SHOULD work with Cute FTP, since that's a very stable and trusted piece of software. If it doesn't work well, they should change something in the TViX...
I MAY have an idea where it goes wrong, I seem to have noticed lately, that when you transfer files AND play content with the TViX at the same time, the transfer hangs when a new file is played...
Haven't had time to test this theory yet though.
Kind regards,
Pengwyn
Crivens 01-29-07, 02:38 PM I have used CuteFTP with a wireless bridge to the Tvix and sometimes it looked liked it hung on large files (4gb+) but if you just left it alone (for quite a while) it would eventually complete successfully. I found it was normally around the half an hour to three quarters of an hour mark that it would normally look like it had frozen after working perfectly. Other times the statistics on screen would suddenly just act stupid until the file had transferred. For example it would be saying it was transferring 100k a second or whatever and it had 10 minutes left, then 8 minutes in it would suddenly change to a stupid transfer speed (nutterly low or stupidely high, I can't remember which) with idiot finishing times. You just left it alone and it pretty much sorted it out by the time it originally said.
Cheers

Opps I posted this question 20 min ago on the main thread. Sorry i didnt read you're stuff until now. Thanks tolax. U made me a happy husband !!
Crivens 02-10-07, 06:56 AM Ok, here is a request. Basically I want to setup my system so that I get a list of DVD covers in icon form, then when you select one of them it goes into the folder showing a play video icon (like a green arrow to the right that is pretty standard these days) and a back icon, with wallpaper showing the DVD cover and a description of the movie. All this is possible now and essentially blurs the difference between a file based system and a full media center experience.
However, what would be quite nice to finish all this off is if you select the folder (DVD cover) it would instead of entering the folder would actually play the movie inside it (find the acceptable file and play from there). Pressing info would actually enter the folder. So basically it looks like info shows all the movie info and large DVD cover (actually wallpaper) with an icon for play movie and back (just the movie file itself and the upfolder icon), where selecting the folder icon actually plays the movie. See what I mean? Obviously you wouldn't want to do this for every folder as most folders would be exactly that; folders. So how about a blank text file (like what is used for icons) to indicate that this folder will use this functionality?
Personally I think this functionality would make the user interface so much more like a high end media center and really finish things off nicely. Plus it is a seriously easy modification surely?
I basically sent exactly this to Dvico, but I also added it would be nice for such folders to not show non-video files. So if you use IFO and have various other unrequired files then they would be hidden, giving the same Play and Back option that a standard avi would.
Cheers
originalsnuffy 02-11-07, 06:49 PM I can't remember if I mentioned this one before....
It would be great to have the ability to play WAV and MP3 files without gaps. I have some live albums that would benefit from this, plus some DTS audio only material.
By the way, a bit off topic, but for some reason DTS audio plays perfectly from the 5000 to my Denon 3806; but does not get decoded by the Onkyo Integra from my 4000. The onkyo plays dts just fine from CDs played on the DVD player. Not a show stopper, but kind of strange. Anybody have any suggestions? I do suspect the problem is the Onkyo not the 4000...as I can hear the diginoise coming through the receiver so I know the signal is passing digitally from the 4000.
JeremyMc 03-02-07, 02:56 PM Why is NO ONE doing this on these all in one media boxes. Basicaly you would have a HTPC at a fraction of the price. Not to mention you would drive so much purchase traffic if it was graphic driven instead of file driven. Heck I've buy several for the whole house if I could just flip through DVD covers on the screen. I know the boxes are capable of it. Sure it would require some extra programming and take more space but it's worth it. The extra sales volume would more then cover the extra R&D. What does it take to get some graphic designers and GUI experts into these firms. Seriously why is there not a SINGLE company offering this on these type of boxes. The GUI on them are all so basic and unpolished. Where do I need to post / respond to DVICO to get this "on the list"?
Ok, here is a request.

Crivens 03-02-07, 06:56 PM Erm, it does DVD covers at the minute. Infact everything I want to do you can do at the minute. The only difference is I want to be able to blur the line a little more by making folder the DVD cover (still possible now) and clicking play will automatically play the avi inside. Clicking info will actually enter the folder which will look like a DVD info screen with a big DVD cover screen, a description of the film, and a play and back buttons. This again is possible now with a little creative setup, but is actually always what happens when you select the folder. ie. You see a list of folders as DVD covers, then select a DVD cover, and it then shows the info page with play and exit. I just want to have a direct play option from the folder screen. If you see what I mean.
Tvix were a little vague with the answer but they said they would add it to the list.

nlindholm 03-05-07, 06:53 AM Maybee Im way out of line here but I'll post this and see what happens :-)
I would like for TViX to support ID3v2.. which at the moment it doesn't seem to do (if it has
been corrected in any fw please let me know)
I have a buch of mp3's that I want to play in my tvix but some of them (about 40 pct)
doesn't work unless I use a tag editor and change them into 3v1. I think that's the reason
anyway because after I strip them down to 3v1 they all seem to work fine. Now having
8000 odd mp3 files it is kind of frustrating to have to have them on 2 seperate places on
your pc (one for iTunes which plays all perfect) and one (stripped version) for Tvix to play
when I'm not at my PC. Has anyone found a nice solution to this problem ? Am I doing
something very wrong ?
I do hope someone can help me in this matter

You are saying that mp3 with v3.2 tags do not work?
That is weird as I have not come over any non-playable mp3 at home. I do think they are all v3.2 but I have to check. (I do all my tagging with MP3 Collector, and I though I had set that to use both v3.1 and v3.2 tags). (btw, I recommend MP3 collector for tagging, it can do multiple files at ones... but with 8000 files it is still a lot of work)
When thinking of it, as I have both 3.1 and 3.2 tags that could be the reason they work. I can't say if I have anything with only v3.2...
Maybe I can to a check tonight and see.
Update:
Did some checking last night. Due to an upgraded MP3 Collector it seems that I no longer can remove the just the v3.1 tags so I could check with v3.2 only... I will do some research on the subject. I also think that most of my mp3 music is using both v3.1 and v3.2 tags and they play fine...

I use Mp3tag which also can do multiple files (and is free). I am not sure it actually is the tags that causes my problem but I know that when I changed all tags in iTunes from whatever they were (3v2...) to "1.1" it changed them to 3v1 and most of them were playable. (It does however remove the coverart from iTunes and that's a mess...) I am pretty sure it has to do with the "hidden" cd covers in each folder that causes the problem together with the tag "string". I will change a portion of them back to 3.2 and check myself and revert... (btw Mp3tag can remove "just the 3v1 tags).
If I for instans try to play an mp3 file ie "01 It's a long way to the top if you wan't to Rock n' Roll.mp3" it doesn't work, but if I "rightclick - change name" (in the PC - Explorer - folder - music ...) to "01 It's a long way...mp3" it does so I gather it has to do with the length of the file no ?
If I change the same file(in iTunes or Mp3tag) to 3v1 the extension is shorter and it's readable by TViX. Is this a problem only I Have ? :-( thanks for you time and efforts Meenator !!

Uppdate 1.
Just had a thought here (Im still at work). All cd covers in iTunes are stored as .bmp files and maybee that's what causes one of the probs. I'll change them in mp3tag to .jpg and "shrink them to size 100*136" and see what happens to TViX. the other issue though ( some titles just don't play) is still a mystery. What letters and font things can't TVIX read ? One thing I'm sure messes things up is if the mp3 file contains swedish umlauts for O and A (those files are unplayable !)

That could be an issue yes, as the tvix do not support .bmp files.
Hehe, you are also hunted by the scandinavian letters... ;)
I will see if I can check if I have some scandinavian artists w/tags and see if they play. (although I might have changed the artist/song name in order to use them on my other mp3 players)
MichaGue 03-12-07, 03:24 PM I miss the possibility to jump to different folders by pressing the button with the first letter of the folder on the remote control. I have about 200 hundred folders in my audio folder and it is hard to go there step by step (up/down button) or side by side (next track button).
Is there another possibility to solve my problem?

Have you seen this thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=801719) on this forum? This program (that can be downloaded), enables you to create pages for your mediafiles that include e.g. a cover and a description of the movie. I like this program very much.
Example:
http://members.home.nl/vermue/screenshot.jpg
Crivens 03-13-07, 03:02 AM Yes I have. Although this is not what I mean. The wallpaper will look something like that, for sure, but will have an option to only go into the folder (showing that wallpaper) if you press info when on the folder icon in the folder above. If you use the normal select button then instead of going into the folder and seeing the above wallpaper (as current functionality) then it will instead search for the first playable video and play that. If the folder is setup to do this functionality (suggested option to use similar functionality as setting up the icons themselves - ie. a blank text file).
Cheers

Why cant tvix look something like that ?
Plus the possibility to look through different folders WITHOUT music stopping !!

Hehe... agreed.
Note that the manual for the 4100/5100 says it should be possible to browse for music while playing.
Maybe they will port that to the 4/5000 as well. A few weeks now and no new firmware... ;)
humorme201 04-23-07, 10:22 AM System was working fine for 5+ months. Now all movies stutter through my Tvix 5000.
Configuration:
Infrant ReadyNAS NV+ w/ 2TB and 1GB Ram
Connected to Netgear Gigabit 8 port switch which connects to 16 port giga switch
Have Cat 6 hardwired throughout house; 16 port switch connects to 5 giga port switch that connects to Tvix; have Sonos on this 5 port as well (no stuttering at all)...
Like I said, everything was working fine up until about 2 weeks ago, now everything, I mean everything stutters through the Tvix..
Is it my NAS? My network? My TVix??
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you,
dsy
TPeterson 04-23-07, 11:50 AM What did you change "about 2 weeks ago"? That's what caused the stuttering.

Not sure if I can help you or not, but I got a new Gb switch yesterday that supports jumbo frames (Netgear GS108 I think it was (same as yours?)). I also have a X6 NAS.
Anyway, I played around with jumboframes a bit. 9k jumbo was good both read and write.
However, when I tried 4088 jumbo (on the Marvel NIC) I still got good write, but the read performance was down to a trickle (0.02% usage). Could it be something like that you are experiencing?
I will continue to play around with jumbo sizes until I find a good overall match performance wise. My router (DGL-4300) do not support anything higher than 4k so I might have to change that as well...

I've upgraded my 4000PA unit to firmware 2.1.5A and installed the T410 ATSC tuner module.
The ATSC tuner chip is the XCEIVE 3028. I'm not sure if this is a "5th Generation" tuner or not. The sensitivity does not appear to be as good as my "4th gen" Samsung SIR-T451 set top box. Note: this is OTA only, digital cable QAM is not supported. Channels that are rock solid on the Samsung STB are not found when the TVIX does a channel scan.
Bug List:
1) when changing a channel the image appears, then the screen momentarily goes black and then the image comes back.
Feature Request:
1) subtitles!!!
2) there is a long delay switching from tuner mode to file mode. can this be minimized?
3) manual add channel/subchannel
4) implement a full EPG where all channels are shown in a grid. With a regular STB this takes time to load as each channel needs to be scanned.
5) add support for pause/ff/rew live HDTV
voxmortis 06-15-07, 12:48 AM Erm, my requests would be (and I apologise if I'm repeating, but hey):
1) Decent GUI, colours, font and graphics need to be designed by a graphic designer, not a LINUX coder!!
2) Continue to play music and movies (in a small window) while navigating
3) Thumbnails for music albums and DVDs/movies
4) Play DVDs from clicking on the folder, not navigating to the correct .IFO file! So not wife-friendly!!
5) I haven't tested them, but reading above it seems subtitles don't work - this surprises me! It's a basic requirement for sub and srt files to work.
7) Resume when stopping and replaying avi/wmv's.
8) Ability to copy files from external HDD, USB keys or networks to internal HDD.
9) Ability to delete videos (8 & 9 done without the aid of another PC!!)
10) Sorting music by albums/artists/genres
Fingers crossed they do some nice firmware updates before they decommission the 4000/5000 and concentrate on the new boxes.
I guess just look at MCE and mimic some of the best functionality on that - and then get the developers to ask their wives to try to use it before they release a geekfest on the world... this could be SUCH a popular product if it was a little bit prettier and easier to use!

contactadam2002 06-18-07, 05:37 PM These Tvix devices are the best out there and definitely map the way of the future, but there are some annoying flaws and areas that demand improvement.
Wish list:
- bookmarking of audio files (otherwise it's difficult to remember what track you were last on)
- gapless playback with ogg and all other gapless files (or if possible mp3's)
- 'auto memory' to remember the last position of playback before exiting, turning off etc
- ability to switch between the counter and track name by pressing button (easier than the inconvenience of scrolling)
- option to increase the speed that the characters move across the VFD (too slow)
- RGB support through component outputs
-The option to choose whether it automatically plays all or one file within a folder
Faults
-When I copy files to the tvix, I have to turn it on and off more than once sometimes before the files appear on there
voxmortis 06-21-07, 12:52 AM Haven't tried this but I assume it doesn't work...
- Allow us to plug an external DVD into the TVIX via USB, so we can play our DVDs and CDs without having to rip them onto hard disk first (or have to put them in a networked PC and share out the drive).
PS- Ripping a DVD to your hard disk... even if you own the DVD is illegal now in Australia!

I agree on these. Very god list mate.
I'd like to ad a search function for music folders as well since with my 13.000 or
so songs it takes a while to scroll to "W"
I do however believe that subtitles works flawlessly. At least on my old M5000A
No problem whatsoever to add a .srt file in the folder. It gets picked up in mine.
I can also delete files on every level exept the files I stream from my pc.

voxmortis 07-10-07, 09:51 PM I had confirmation from DVICO/TVix that an external DVD ROM should work - but only play non-CSS protected DVDs... so I should be able to play any avi's or decrypted/ripped DVDs on it, which is cool.
I usually archive lots of avi's etc to DVD, so this is a perfect. I wonder if I can play music from it?
Actually - that's another feature request - to rip music and DVDs from an external CD/DVD ROM onto the internal HDD!! :)
Ah, and I just figured how to delete the files on the Tvix too, cool!
Crivens 07-11-07, 08:06 AM that's another feature request - to rip music and DVDs from an external CD/DVD ROM onto the internal HDD!!Thats just another angle on a feature request a few of us made about a year ago now. Basically they were one step away from allowing copying of files from an external drive (we were talking copying data directly (without a PC) from USB sticks and portable drives rather than DVD roms, but same thing really). Well, thats what they said, but nothing really came of it. Also remember that considering they are not going to allow non-CSS protected DVDs then will only copy already ripped DVDs films that exist on the DVD-R/RW rather than being nice and converting it to an appropriate video format for the Tvix (which I'm sure we would all love).
Cheers
Not sure if anyone else is seeing this, but some ripped VOBs do not display the correct timecode when the "info" button is pressed.
For example, a TV show ripped from DVD may show only a 3 minute duration, when in fact it is 25 minutes in length.
Fast forwarding, rewinding and jumping (GoTo) commands all generate problems with the video.
If you attempt to play a video of this type straight through, it may have "speed-ups" at certain points.
I'm at 2.1.4, but it has been doing it for many builds.
Most VOBs are fine, and it appears to happen with certain DVD releases. For example, the problem exists with WKRP DVD set. I found that if I convert the VOBs to MPGs (mpeg2) they then show the proper timecodes and play fine.
chrisnoland 08-02-07, 10:16 PM All,
I have been looking for a user friendly device for about 2 years now... file / folder searching is ok for me... but no way for my wife or kid (or guests)
I would like to echo and and to some of the comments and suggestions from others
1. ability to search video (DVD) content via cover art with point and click play
2. ability to search video via types (Genre, dates, actors, title, etc)
3. Auto discovery of new DVD content and builds db of cover art, genre info, etc. (would actually be ok if it could import from a program such as DVDProfiler
I need three copies of this for my house ;)
Thanks

The official comparison list between 5000 and 5100 shows the 5100 as capable of 8 and 9. But the manual for the 5100 does not mention this ability.
I suspect it was something planned but not implemented.
nlindholm 08-10-07, 02:58 AM Please do something NOW with the utterly boring and ugly UI on the TviX ?
It's almost scary how bad it is. Make it look more like the XboX or the PS3 please !
Also if one should have a fighting chance of using it to play music then make it shuffle
inter folders ! Why on earth can't one do that but are forced to place all songs in 1 (one)
folder just for TviX to realize how to mix them? It's embarrasing to say the least !!

I believe that's the reason we all bought them to start with. That doesn't
exclude a nicer GUI now does it :o

I wish mine *did* playback everything flawlessly.
About a third of my movies and features (converted from .ts streams to .mpg) either have massive pixellation or won't play at all. I can't see any structure in why this happens, it isn't a matter of the channel or anything, across all channels some play and some don't.
What makes things more annoying is that they play fine on my computer (QuickTime Player)
TPeterson 08-18-07, 02:45 PM If the original TS files play, then it seems to me that you should be complaining about your "conversion" software and not TViX.
henriot 08-22-07, 07:30 AM Erm, my requests would be (and I apologise if I'm repeating, but hey):
Some ofyour request already works. At least on my 4000P fw 2.1.0
3/ Works
4/ Works if you convert your DVD in an ISO image (with Ultraiso for instance)
5/ Works of course. You can even move the subtitle, change the color etc..
7/ Works at least with .avi by using the bookmark capability
9/ Works. You can delete the files on the local HD by the telecommand button
I agree with henriot. Most on the list works to an ok level.
Regarding 4/
If you really, really don't like to rip to ISO's (why?) you could in theory create a playlist containing the correct IFO file. The playlists can then actually be in a completely separate folder than the actual DVDs. The playlists can also be shown as an icons.
I tried this but couldn't get it to work. You could either try some more, in case I did something wrong. Or request the feature to support IFO files in playlists, from Dvico.
I hope everyone knows that posting here doesn't do much. Features request and bugs are best reported to Dvico in the "My Q&A" section at http://www.tvix.co.kr
For coverart I can recommend
http://www.croby.se/downloads/TViXHelper10a.zip
and the program found in the thread "one guys...something gui". Search: wib-t
But as a reader of this fourum I guess the latter one is already known to all.

zapster 08-22-07, 08:45 PM What are the top 10 remaining bugs in the 5000?
TPeterson 08-22-07, 08:50 PM "Top" for whom?
If the original TS files play, then it seems to me that you should be complaining about your "conversion" software and not TViX.
1. Can one play .ts files (not VIDEO_TS folders) on the TVIX? It isn't listed as a format, and I did not seem to be able to play them. If I could, I might be prepared to live with the commercials rather than cutting them out on my computer. Perhaps there is just something I need to learn about using the TVIX.
2. You may be right, but if the converted files play with anything I can throw at them on my computer but not on the TVIX, then the TVIX is the first suspect. If I knew WHY they didn't play, I would feel easier. I've been keeping records of what plays and what doesn't, and there seems to be no logic behind it, I was hoping that it might be all items from a particular channel.
TPeterson 08-23-07, 09:50 AM Yes, of course one can play TS files (usually saved with .tp extensions by Korean PVR sw) on the TViX. Navigate to them in your folders and see. If they are HDTV files, you'll need to use an NFS server such as DViCo's NetShare to play them over the LAN.
chris33f 08-23-07, 11:10 AM For me it would be good to have :
- access to internet streaming videos
- record the internet streaming audio and video (mp3... /MPEG...)
And using the digital tuner :
- time shifting
- be able to do simple video editing such as sequence removal (ads)
Something great, but i'm dreaming, would be an analogue A/V input so that it could record analogue signals.

Ah, the difference between .tp and .ts was what I didn't understand, and it isn't mentioned in the manual. As my files transfer as .ts files, I guess I just have to change the extension.
I thought I had tried this a couple of times and it didn't work. I'll try again.
TPeterson 08-24-07, 10:33 AM The difference between ".ts" and ".tp" for one-file recordings is nil. The reason for the separate extensions goes back to the time (pre NTFS) when one needed to segment files to capture long recordings and the two extensions used (were supposed to use, anyway) different conventions for numbering the sequences. I thought that TViX listed and played ".ts" as well as ".tp", but maybe my memory is faulty (can't check it just now). It certainly plays TS files with .tp extensions very well over NFS shares.
originalsnuffy 08-24-07, 12:23 PM I am pretty sure the TVIX family plays both .tp and .ts extensions. If not, just rename the file. Realistically, I think you can rename the files to .mpg too.
Better yet, get a copy of video redo; cut out the commercials and run it through the utility that removes the glitches from the hi def stream. Then the file plays smoothly in the TVIX and on the HTPC.

Better again, would be the simple video editing from the TVIX UI (embedded feature)....
TPeterson, thanks for indicating the very slight difference between .ts and .tp. The manual definitely does NOT mention .ts, though as you say they *should* work just as well.
NTFS, network shares, videoredo and hidef are all irrelevant as I use a Mac, and as I am only playing through one TV. I have all my stuff on a large FAT32 hard drive in the TVIX. Has to be FAT32 as the Mac doesn't write to NTFS, but can format drives of any size at FAT32.
The program I use to cut out ads is MPEG Streamclip, which is the simplest for the Mac.
As originalsnuffy indicates, the problem is likely to be with glitches in the original stream. I suspect that Streamclip doesn't get rid of these well enough, though it is the best editing program. I think I can reprocess with VisualHub and get playable files, but I wish I could tell in advance whether a file is going to cause problems, especially as reprocessing takes so long.
chris33f, what do you mean by video editing from the TVIX UI? There's no mention of editing in the manual.
TPeterson 08-25-07, 03:57 AM I have all my stuff on a large FAT32 hard drive in the TVIX. I just meant that it would be good to have in the TVIX UI (after firmware upgrade of course) a feature to edit the recorded files (from DVBT tuner) to remove sequences such as ads.
If you look a another device by Ellion : http://www.elliondigital.com/eng/product02.html section "Editing Recorded A/V Title without PC".
It's not in the manual because it's not a feature of the current TVIX.
I'd like to have it available because a PVR shouldn't need a PC for simple functions.
Time shifting would be great too !

OK. I was thinking that myself.
I will post further, after more experimentation, but in that thread.
Chris, sorry I misunderstood you.
One last post in this thread. I might post in another thread some considerable time later.
I transferred all the items I currently had on my PVR to a hard drive (and yes, I know the 4 GB limit on FAT32, but hope I won't get any files of that size). This showed that my TVIX will play .ts files but dislikes files with faulty data.
Only one of my files played - enough to show that .ts does work. But it turned out that when I looked at them in my computer they all (including the one that played on the TVIx) came up with the message "one or more transport stream files has a bad size". So it's not that surprising that, although they nevertheless played on my computer, they would not play on the TVIX.
I don't know why this happened, I've come across it occcasionally before, but never with all the transferred files.

initram 09-18-07, 02:24 AM 1) When set to send decoded soundtracks over HDMI, the box always creates a stereo downmix. E.g., when playing back a file with a 5.1 AAC encoded soundtrack, the box should decode and output all channels as PCM over the HDMI port. This is specifically within the HDMI spec and implemented e.g., by the PS3. I think that this is of some importance, because many receivers or TVs cannot yet decode AAC, meaning that if the undecoded bit stream is sent to the receiver or TV it stays mute.
2) When playing back 24fps content, the box should send a signal with a 24Hz image frequency over HDMI. This, too, is within HDMI spec. I guess that it currently creates a 2:3 pull down signal, something which HDTV was supposed to do away with.
If you don't implement these, I won't buy your product. Wait... I already bought it. D'oh!
originalsnuffy 09-18-07, 08:21 AM Initram--
You must have a different 5000 than me. All I have is a DVI port that when converted to HDMI puts out a "messy" signal at 1080i or 1080p. And of course audio is not going over this DVI port at all.
dcohen--
The 5000 can read NTFS just fine. I'd suggest you look at NTFS...less problems with file size issues.

All I have is a DVI port that when converted to HDMI puts out a "messy" signal at 1080i or 1080p.I have two 5000s and both output beautiful 1080i to my Sammy 52" LCD TV's HDMI input. One even does 1080p very well but the other has some red/green sparklies at that rez. So, Snuff, I suggest that you look at your cabling if you can't get good 1080i from your TViX.
originalsnuffy 09-18-07, 09:26 AM TPeterson;
I agree that shielding the DVI connection (there is a video on HiJack's forum website that shows how to do this) would help. And of course changing cables.
Right now my 5000 is hooked up to an older monitor that only has component inputs. I should fiddle with my 4000, which works fine into the monitor but not into my new receiver with dvi-hdmi. But instead I'll probably just wait for a native hdmi unit...what ever succeeds the 4100 and 5100.
I remember a lot of discussions regarding this when the units were rather new. If I don't remember wrong, one conclusion was that using DVI - HDMI adaptor connected to a HDMI or DVI cable would more often cause bad results than when using a converting cable. I.e with DVI in one end and HDMI in the other. That's what I use. Twice. And it gives a great picture. I.e. Tvix DVI -> HDMI -> receiver -> HDMI -> DVI to Plasma.
I want the video source switching, and the Plasma has DVI in.... :)
This is of course way of topic for this thread, but if Dvico ever read it I would think it is less likely to happen now.
For real feature requests one should of course post in My Q&A on http://www.tvix.co.kr

originalsnuffy 09-18-07, 10:26 AM I am using a reasonably thick dvi to hdmi cable; can't remember if I bought it from monoprice or cables for less. Right now I can live with the component workaround; really want native hdmi anyway. I also so want the sigma chip that is planned for the 5500 et al. Seems like the new sigma chip has enough horsepower to do the job for the forseeable future.

Um, in a word: yes. I have a 4100. I carelessly misposted, thinking this was the thread to post bugs for the x100 series. I'm sorry!
Funny how Dvico left so many of the 5000 series' bugs unfixed that I thought we're talking of the 4100 that I have.
Kahanamoku 10-08-07, 07:59 PM Wishlist Item:
Ability to re-order DTV channels (on tuner models) to our own order rather than the order picked up by the channel scan
I have trouble playing the ISOs on M5000A - tried both local as well as across network -
When I click on an ISO:
Scenario 1:
sometimes it says "PLAY" on the screen and nothing happens for eternity - then I press "stop" and "play" again almost immediately and it starts playing if I am lucky.
Scenario 2:
Some other times, I click on the ISO file and it returns back to the file right away - like it doesnt recognize the file at all and when it does this, nothing I do can make any ISO play - even the ones I had luck playing earlier - the only way/hope to get back to atleast for a chance of the scenario 1 would be after a reboot
Both scenarios apply to ISOs across network as well as those in a local USB drive.
Also, the timestamps for ISOs over the network show "1970" as the year even after the date&time set up correctly and rebooted several times.
Any advice/suggestions are most welcome!

Sounds as though you don't have the latest DVDcrypter or don't have it set up correctly to remove all protections.
Care to elaborate? How do you explain the inconsistent nature - same files would play sometimes and not at other times - how is this related to DVDdecryptor or protections??
I am running/using the latest firmware 2.2.0
These Tvix devices are the best out there and definitely map the way of the future, but there are some annoying flaws and areas that demand improvement.
Faults
-When I copy files to the tvix, I have to turn it on and off more than once sometimes before the files appear on there
A agree with that.
And specialy :
- Auto memory with AutoRUN : Is it possible to have a remember of the last music played. Each time, the Autorun begin with the first song in the list.
- Most important => Wake UP + Auto run : This could be used to wake up every morning ( NO other multimedia machine can do that ). But is it a Clock inside de M4000 ? :)
- RADIO southcast :
When there is a network attached to my DVICO, it's working. No problem.
But without Network, the DVICO make a reboot.
- DISPLAY Information :
When I read MP3 or RADIO, there is no information on the display. There is more information on screen TV, but not all ( bitrate, name of the singer,...)
- AUTOSTOP when listening RADIO Southcast. To avoid reaching Download limitation.
- Mute AUDIO before power off. To avoid big BLOP in my HIFI speaker.
Tested with DVICO M4000P + firmware (2.2.0)

Hi, forgive me if this is not directly connected to the TviX 5000 device since the DVB-T tuner is an external peace of hardware.
I have two problems with DTV recording.
Some DVB-T Channel Names have special characters in their channel name which leads to the following issues:
1st: One channel has a slash in the name: "Doku/KiKa"
In this case recordings of this channel _always_ fail (i guess it is because NTFS does not allow slashes within folder names).
2nd: Some Channels have hidden special character which are saved during recording but cannot be displayed by the device in video mode. This is kinda funny, because the recording itself is fine. But you never find your recording afterwards, since the TviX cannot display the folder (its sort of a WOM, a write only memory ;-)).
If i connect the TviX to a computer via USB mode, the folder are visible again.
So i can rename them and then i am able to watch the movie. But this is a bit stupid handling.
Sorry if i produced some dupes but i did not found my problems within the forum.
Thanks and best regards,
dietmar
Tvix 4000PA + ATSC tuner module
Firmware 2.2.0 (latest)
Feature requests:
1. CC support for HD broadcasts
2. DVR "trick modes" (aka chasing playback, pause live TV, commercial skip, etc.)
3. Record in the background and let me watch a file on disk.
4. improved sensitivity in the tuner module -- it's nowhere near as good as a stand-alone set top box or tuner in my panny TV.
Bugs:
1. the *.tp file must be PERFECT otherwise playback crashes, jumps around, restarts, FF/REW doesn't work, etc. Even with a very good antenna setup I still get the occasional dropout and this hiccup renders most OTA recordings unwatchable on this unit.
2. Unit occasionally turns back on after power down.
3. LONG delay swiching from DTV mode to player mode. Is it rebooting?
4. long lag time when switching channels
Hoping the new Echostar OTA DVR is a more polished product.
originalsnuffy 01-22-08, 05:48 PM I would love to be wrong. But I think development on the 5000 and 4000 is pretty much over.
MichaGue 02-24-08, 11:34 AM A new firmware 2.2.7 for the TViX 40xx/50xx was released. But I have problems unzipping the files. Always get an error. Does anyone has the same problems?

TPeterson 02-24-08, 12:55 PM The NTSC Eng zip gave no errors for me using TugZIP. Did you try the download a second time? How about using a different FTP client/browser?
BTW, I find that this latest FW, while still not handling trick play on TS files very well, does play much better through H2M edit points than did the previous FW (2.2.0). :)
chris98007 02-25-08, 05:21 PM Saw the new FW today. not much about it. Anyone have an idea what minor bugs it fixes?
nope,
....but it breaks Shoutcast internet radio which worked fine in 2.2.0
:(
chris98007 02-26-08, 01:57 PM oh great. So nobody has a list of what bug fixes there are? It seems to focus on the tuner aspect.
jtmarcot 02-26-08, 06:46 PM Has anyone had success with their M5000-U and Mac OSX Leopard? So far, my luck hasn't been so good. I've tried with several firmware versions including 2.2.7.
NFS sharing: I've set up an NFS share on my Mac, but when I attempt to connect from the TVIX, it goes completely belly up. To be more specific, the unit freezes and shuts down. Odd.
USB connection: Connects ok, but I'm only allowed read-only access to the TVIX contents.
FTP: I've never had great success with FTPing to and from the TVIX, but it seems to be much worse from Leopard. I can't seem to get more than a few hundred MB to transfer without requiring a reboot to reset the connection.
Any tips or suggestions? I'm PC-less now and Leopard has rendered my 5000-U almost useless.
awatson 03-01-08, 03:01 PM chris98007,
> Saw the new FW today. not much about it.
> Anyone have an idea what minor bugs it fixes?
I upgraded my TViX M-4000P to the new 2.2.7 firmware. According to the TViX web site, the fixes seem to be focused on tuner issues, which I don't have anyway. But they did hint at "miscellaneous bug fixes".
So far I haven't noticed any improvements. Forward and Reverse skip "might" be slightly better with MPEG2 material, but I can't tell for sure as it still has problems.
I HAVE noticed two new problems, however.
1. DivX support is dramatically broken. I have about 20 music videos I downloaded from Stage6. They all worked perfectly under 2.2.0, but roughly half of them fail to play at all under 2.2.7.
2. If the on-screen display is turned on (the default), when it shows "Subtitle: NONE" on the screen, it leaves behind the three little tips of the "E" in none. They overlay whatever is on the screen and never go away. Thankfully, this can be fixed by just turning off the on-screen display. I never used the OSD anyway, so I'm not sure if this is a new problem or not, but it wasn't fixed in 2.2.7.
I'll try 2.2.7 a few more days, but I suspect I'll go back to 2.2.0 as the update seems to have broken more than it fixed.
Anthony
TPeterson 03-01-08, 06:41 PM Workaround: The fragment left behind of "no subtitle" OSD goes away if you press Play/Pause twice. I'm keeping the new fw just for the improved play through TS file imperfections, such as H2M edit points.
accordxtc 03-02-08, 03:11 AM Well I guess its the end of the road for the 5100SH eh. I just wish they would fix the way this menu is displayed at, no way that this media player's menu is out putting at 1080P. I've got my SonicView FTA reciever that outputs at 1080i and blows the Tvix out of the water. I'm using a Sharp Aquos 52" with Monster HDMI cable. Anyone think the 5100SH will ever get a new update or is this done for good.
awatson 03-02-08, 11:10 AM Another glitch with the new 2.2.7 firmware... Anytime I stop a video, the screen does this weird flash thing before returning to the file list. 2.2.0 just went black and returned to the list.
chris98007 03-04-08, 12:50 PM hey all,
I posted this in the 4100 list. I have a file server with 6 hard drives. I mount different folders in the tvixhd1 using xp and junctionlink magic. All the files show up on tvix in one location. I have now run out of room. The easy thing to do is add a external usb hd enclosure, though i have a 2nd pc qith 7 open hd bays.
What i want to do is link pc2 with pc1. Now i know i can map a network drive to pc1 though tvix does not see it. I dont really want to enter a second ip in tvix becasue that affects the wife factor.
junctionlink sees drives on the network though when you try and link it, it just drops a shortcut in the tvix folder. Is there a way to mount a mapped hard drive to make it a local drive?? I feel like i am missing a step.
jamboman 04-06-08, 05:09 AM I am a happy user of the MP-4000. I used firmware 2.2.0 and everything was working correct. After installing firmware 2.2.7 the menu buton for DVD on hard disk do not work anymore. Also the menu itself does not work anymore and the .vob file's of the DVD (on the hard disk on my TViX) does not work anymore. Also the .avi files are displayed shokkered. So I thought I put 2.2.0 again on my MP-4000 but the malfunction I discriped still ristists. And 2.1.0 and 2.0.5 were not the solutions.
Does anyone know the answer?
TPeterson 04-06-08, 12:43 PM The answer is not to change the firmware when "everything was working correct". :D
I suggest that you try doing the "Safe Mode Firmware Upgrade (http://www.tvix.co.kr/eng/faq/FAQM5000Ufirst.aspx?act=RD&id=56&pg=0&CATID=3&SCATID=2) procedure to get back to square one.

"everything was working correct" That's right, but the shop where I have bought the TViX remined me to do so :(
Anyhow thanx for your reply, but it did not work. I still can not see .vob files anymore. I have tried firmware 1.8.5 and everything above, no succes. Both ways, as you told me above and the "normal" way. I have reformated the disk, I thought maybe there is some software on the harddisk. It is really frustrating
Help again
TPeterson 04-06-08, 07:15 PM Sounds as though it's broken, then. :(
Does the TViX indicate that the fw update was successful? Did you perform a factory defaults reset (http://www.tvix.co.kr/eng/faq/FAQM5000Ufirst.aspx?act=RD&id=141&pg=0&CATID=3&SCATID=2)?

fw update's work al fine, no errors or else. Music, photo and setup, all works fine. It is only the .vob files. They do not start anymore then the remote control is also not accesseble anymore and the only thing I can do is the off button. Shall I trie a earlier fw file?
Isn't it strange to kill a TViX with a firmware update? I would say so
Thanx, but if some one knows more please let me know!
Well after long exhaustive tests on the use of a my book 2Tb pro edition I have not been able to get it to work without problems of freezing m2ts files. The idea of having a external drive for blu ray in this context just does not work for me.
I've tried better usb cables and compared running files on the tvix to running on the hard drive. Tried raid 1 and 0 but in all cases they all eventually freeze on the hard drive and work fine in the 6500. Maybe it's the hard drive ? If anyone else has tried this but with a different hard drive and had no issues, i'd like to hear from them. It's been a lot of frustration, not to mention expense. :(
also accessing the hard drive while in icon mode in the tvix is a pain in the neck as well :(
imthedash 11-21-08, 05:06 PM How about the ability to control the TViX through the Ethernet port. Is this possible?
Instead of having to use the remote, I would like to navigate and control it through the Ethernet port.
TPeterson 11-21-08, 05:53 PM Possible? Maybe, but not documented.

your pardon but how do you set that up? :o:confused:
best regards
Nik
TPeterson 12-09-08, 12:33 PM Nik, the M5000/4000 series TViX don't have an SMB server, so they can only serve files via FTP.
nlindholm 12-10-08, 02:12 AM Ok mate cheers,

StuntDriverXL 02-14-09, 09:19 PM This thread should be unsticked and replaced with an obviously more relevant and popular product made by an significant company.
Namely WD TV. Here is the thread

Sorry to say that, but tvix stay more popular than WDTV. WDTV is just a good cheap (with less fonctionnality) product if you have no such money to spent ... but nothing more. (sorry for my ugly english :))
basitalvi 06-26-09, 02:55 AM Hi all,
Is it possible to have multicast support on TViX devices?
It would be great if we have this feature and by enabling Multicast over ethernet, these devices will be IPTV ready.
We have large 100mbit Ethernet Network in 20km radius running on optic fiber with many customers, we are planning to offer both off-line stuff and live IPTV stuff using one device.
Best Regards,
Basit.
originalsnuffy 06-26-09, 11:22 AM Just for fun I took a look at ebay to see what the 4000 and 5000 go for. Pretty sad. My guess is that these units without hard drives would be unlikely to fetch more than $50!
Tech prices fall hard!
The internal hard drive on my TVIX 5000 is getting full, so I have put some stuff onto an external drive.
This works fine, except that switching to the external drive takes around fifteen seconds.
Is this normal?
If not, is the fact that I have put my videos on the external drive into folders but these folders are not inside a folder called Video the cause of the problem?
chris98007 08-05-09, 04:19 PM Hey all,
I have a 4000 which i believe is the same as the 5000. I did a upgrade a few weeks back on the FW. I was getting the 3 dots in the upper right side of the OSD. Since i did not notice any great things with the FW, i went back to the 2.20
Since the downgrade, i have noticed that when i put the sleep timer on, the Tvix will turn itself off, but the fan keeps running.
Anyone notice this?
TPeterson 08-05-09, 05:56 PM Did you retry the fw downgrade? If that doesn't work, try the safe upgrade procedure from the manual.
chris98007 08-06-09, 11:56 AM You know i did do a downgrade. What i noticed last night is that i lost total control of the fan speed. I tried setting it faster and slower and it made no difference.
What i did is pull the power plug out of the back. Then restarted it and everything is back to normal. I can set the fan speed and the timer works again.
Just an FYI for anyone who runs into it.
