I just bought a Yamaha YHT-270 based on recommendations on this forum. Best Buy had them on sale and I had an additional 12% off coupon. It sounds great, much better than I expected from this price range.
It seems like the consensus on here is that if your speakers are smaller than 8 inches or so, they should be setup as "small" on the receiver so that only the subwoofer gets bass. The default setup on this receiver has the front left and right as "large" speakers and the subwoofer as "both" (bass to sub and front speakers). I'm assuming the ideal setup for these speakers (3.25" two ways) would be small and only the sub should get bass. It makes me wonder why Yamaha made this the default setup though since this receiver and speakers are sold as a set. Yamaha specs the speakers to have a response down to 30hz which I find hard to believe with 3.25" woofers. Did I set it up correctly?
Another question I have is related to setting each speaker's level. If I get a sound pressure meter, can I use the test tones for measurement or do I need to get a calibration dvd like Avia? Is it preferable to adjust the subwoofer's level with its volume control or should it be adjusted from the receiver?
