Well the time has come to return my 42" Akai Plasma(the speakers keep cutting in and out and it hums sometimes). Now I'm thinking it may be replaced by the Polaroid 42" Plasma HDTV (PLA-4248). Anyone have an opinoin? I can only order it online and not see it in stores.....I have seen alot of Polaroid plasmas and I must say their LCDs impressed me for the price,

Cicruit City is selling the Polaroid PLA-4248 for very little this week! So if anyone has information on this unit's performance, or owns one, please share.

If there plasmas are anything like their LCDs, stay away. When I worked at CC, people would return their LCDs left and right. They had many issues from bad backlights to dead pixels to just about anything else that could go bad. Save up somemore money and get a quality set (avoid Philips as well), you will thank me many times over.

I can't remember but I think Costco might carry this set..
If they do then just phone a few in your area and find one with it setup.

Regardless CC has a 15 or 30 day return policy, you could always pick it up and give it a try yourself.

For what it's worth, Consumer Reports tested the Polaroid a few issues ago and gave it high ratings.

I looked through my copies of CR for the past year and found no review of the Polaroid. YMMV.

I saw a Polaroid plasma at Walmart. Looked washed out next to a Sanyo (?!) plasma. But the setup wasn't the best, so....

We own a Polaroid 42" for 2 years and have had no problems except that we can't find a universal remote that works with the unit.

Have you tried Logitech Harmony remotes?

Please tell me you are kidding with getting a Polaroid 42" Plasma. It's so hard to find that you probably would be better off financially getting a Samsung or Panasonic 42" Plasma.

I once had a Polaroid FLM-2601 - gave off a burning smell.

Spend extra and get a Panasonic or Samsung. If any thing gos wrong with the Polaroid TV you will have a hard time with repairs. It takes months for them to fix it,and if its a hard to find part you may never see the tv again. All there sets have sound and power problems that they have done nothing about.
