Looking at the Pearl and was wondering if anyone has a 110" Carada Criterion Brilliant White screen to go with it. It has a gain of 1.4 and no noticable texture. I'm looking to buy this combo, but wanted feedback as to the brightness on a larger screen. Thanks,

Terry

I saw it on a 106" 1.3 daLite screen and it was plenty bright so I would think that screen would work just fine.

I'm interested as well. I'm thinking about the same combo, but in the 92" (16:9) screen.

I'm going to guess and say the 110" screen might be pushing it in anything other than a very dark room based on the comments I've been reading. If you go this route, please give us feedback! :)

How many hours on the lamp?

I have the Pearl with 106 inch Carada BW and am very happy with it. It was a huge improvement over my PLV-Z2 in terms of black level and shadow detail.

I have a 96 inch Carada BW with the Pearl. I do most of my viewing on low bulb, near min throw, and with 70 hours on the bulb it's plenty bright. Hint: On low bulb, oversaturate your colors a little bit to give the pic a bit more punch.

You can do the ft-l. calculations yourself for your screen size. Just make sure that you use 1.2 for the gain, since that's closer to the true gain of this screen. 1.4 is a marketing number, and it's a stretch, since all reviews in which the ST130 (gain 1.3) and the BW are demoed side by side, the ST130 is reported to be the brighter screen by a very slim margin.

As mentioned, I'm probably going to go with a 92" Carada BW screen and the Pearl. Would you recommend something other than the Carada BW having spent time with your setup... or would you make the same choice again?

I love this screen with the Pearl. No drawbacks that I can see, and at 92 diagonal inches, the Pearl will be plenty bright enough no matter what the throw. The Carada BW is very similar to the ST130 for less than half the cost. Go with the Criterion Series Frame (like I did) and you won't have any problems with light spill either.

Great info, thank you very much!

FWIW, the lens would be mounted ~9.5' from the screen...

Sounds like min throw. As long as you have a dedicated, light controlled theater with dark walls, brightness will not be a problem for you.

With the 110" BW Carada screen, It would be in a dark dedicated theater room. I think my throw will be at min about 14 feet or less. I don't think I can go wrong with this combo. Thanks people.

Let me know how it turns out. I have a Pearl and a 110" BW on order myself. Will also have a throw about 14', and beige walls for now.

Hi guys, would any of you care to update the thread with your findings? I've just ordered the carada 110" Diag BW version and I'd love to know how you guys are getting on with it? :)

I have the BW at 100" with my Pearl. It is a perfect match.

Hi Kipp, thanks for that. Out of interest have you been scientific with the placing of the projector to maximise lumens, ie I believe that having the zoom right in so that it is displaying the largest picture and then moving the projector to fill the screen is the correct approach? Or slacken just a little to give you some tuning?

Does this sound like the right thing to do?

Thanks

I have a 100-inch Carada BW screen with a ceiling mounted Pearl at about 12 feet from the screen on low lamp mode in a light controlled room and love it. I have had no problems and it is very bright, but I only have about 40 hours on the new bulb.

Just finished my first home theater on the 23rd of December - what a Christmas present.

I have the Pearl and a 100" BW Carada. It's an awsome picture!

For standard DVD's I also purchased the new Oppo 81 DVD player - it upconverts to 1080p via HDMI. Pretty impressive.
