I'm dreading the day I try to fire this thing up on my existing rig.

Yeah my pc will have a good laugh when I ask it to try.
Actually you will need a Dx10 card to run it full tilt so right now everyone's computer needs to upgraded.

And for DX10 you will need VISTA....

Yea it sucks. The gamers are going to have to dish out for all the new stuff right away while everyone else will milk XP and DX9 for another year(s).

yeah, I am not sure what to do but save. Do you go dual core and Nvida 8xxx product or wait a while and get quad core plus the latest Nvidia 8xx multi-gpu on one card...arggh!

Who knows. The real question is when does all of this stuff actually hit the market. It is easier to wait for something if you know how long you are waiting.

It is nice to see games like Crysis though, it reminds you why are upgrading.

The other question that I have is how good will the first generation of Dx10 cards be?

DX10 makes all of that run at 100FPS on a 1Ghz system, the problem is you need 100 GiG's of ram... lol

IMO you wait till next summer before trying to figure the hardware puzzle out for best bang for buck etc.

Actually the real question will be if this game is anything worth playing.

I loved FarCry when it first came out....but recently I tried playing it again, and was subsequently bored to tears.

Making a game that requires $1000 worth of new equipment, that game had better be more than a generic action shooter.

^ Something tells me there are other games that are going to released in the future beyond Crysis. Others on the slate so far are Hellgate and Alan Wake, in terms of taking advantage of next-gen hardware. I'm sure there are countless others but these are the one's getting the headlines now.

Aren't all these Crysis shots STILL rendered with DX9 hardware? I mean...think about that for a second. Crysis will run and look just fantastic with DX9 boards...I would hold off on the first gen DX10 boards if I were you guys...

I don't know. Obvioulsy consumer Dx10 cards aren't out yet, nor is the consumer release of Vista, but I had assumed that the developers had some pre-release stuff. Anyone know for sure?

The demo's at various shows except for the very last one in Germany were on DX9 from what I understood.

QFT, Far Cry was a great graphics engine in search of a great game, and Crysis will likely be more of the same. Hardly worth upgrading your entire rig to Visat/DX10 to support, not like UT2k7! :D

Do you think EA will even license that engine?

Hmm, maybe BF3 will run on the Crysis engine. That would be sweet. :D

Just watched the video and it does look impressive!

I also discovered that the release date is scheduled for q3 2007, so it looks like I might actually have time to save up for a quad core :)

q3 jeez thats a long time. I can milk my 3700+ and 7800GT for longer than expected. 2 years without an upgrade?? unheard of! :P

My thoughts exactly...no need to upgrade the current Windows XP and 7900GT SLI setup any time soon.
