Very cool news.... Thanks!

That link clearly shows an image from Fantasia as a BD too. Great!

you know, there are no dates listed. I would be surprised if more than a very few of these come out in 2007. Think about how long it takes between Disney DVD releases of "classic" catalog stuff. Especially with the installed base for Blu-ray so low right now, I would bet they hold off on most of the animated catalog.

It's fairly certain that Narnia will be out sometime early '07 as well.

The Disney animated titles will be two years down the line, I think. Disney always wants to increase their value and do double dipping (barebones and then Platinum editions).

As far as live-action and Pixar films, Disney is less restrictive. So you might see them in 2007. Which is good.

Wow. They aren't screwing around.

I have a bad feeling, though, that they will be MPEG-2 encodes and packed so far with special features that the movie will suffer (encode-wise).

PLEASE PLEASE prove me wrong, Disney. Nothing will hurt the high def movement more than crappy releases from an exclusive BD studio.

And for goodness' sake, Disney... no color banding!!!

And 24 bit/48 kHz, 24 bit/96 kHz, or 24 bit/192 kHz master grade lossless audio!

Wow. They aren't screwing around.I suspect they are. I'll be surprised if we get more than 2 of those titles in the next 18 months and I would even question whether we'll get 2. But this is one case where I definitely hope that I am wrong. Putting that list on a DVD and saying "Coming" (not even "Coming Soon") is easy, but Disney's actual release choices don't give me much confidence in seeing those anytime soon.

I am curious to see what the difference is in PQ with animated titles. We often showcase Incredibles (missile launch, together again) and the sound is already a thrill ride.

Then again, being "satisfied" to "somewhat impressed" with how upconverted SD movies look at our house come with the fact that they are being played on an HD or BD player in the first place.

.... and to think we just HAD to run out and buy the new Mermaid release because, Heaven forbid we only had a fullscreen version

I have Comcast so no HD Lite, Starz-HD has The Incredibles on a lot in HD and it looks amazing, so much better then the upconverted DVD of it.

Unfortunately, studios have a strong disincentive against releasing major titles as they will sell many more copies if there is a larger installed base and so do not want to release early. Disney is actually in an interesting position. If around or after Playstation 3 ships, Disney were to release one or two Pixar films (maybe and [i]Toy Story) and one or two 2D classics, they might be able to move things along. Dads that wanted Playstation 3 consoles could justify its price to their spouses by saying: "Look we can get these movies for the kids!"Unfortunately, studios have a strong disincentive against doing this as they will sell many more copies if there is a larger installed base and so do not want to release early. (same logic works for big brother/sister and younger sibling).

Hopefully all Blu-ray studios will realize the chicken and egg situation: If there is no content, people won't buy the players. If no consumers have players, they won't buy movies.

So "sacrifice" one or two major titles, studios, so people will start buying players!!!

If they lower the prices of the BD players people will buy them, myself included. I'm not paying $1000-1500 for what I can get for $500. It's a simple as that.

While it makes sense for Toshiba to subsidize their format to compensate for almost no CE manufacturer support and limited studio support, at this moment, it does not make sense for any other player to do so. I fully expect that second generation players will be released soon (with in 6 months) that will be much cheaper and will actually be able to be sold for what Toshiba is selling its first generation low end player.

Finally, if content is exclusively available on one format, one will have to either decide to buy that format, wait and hope that exclusive studios will become neutral or decide that that content is not that important.

You can't get these or thousands of other movies for 500.00....and the 1k players actually function correctly. ;)

Its an absolute that if average consumers were buying current hd dvd players even for 99.00....there would be a 90% return rate on the current players IMO.

I realize that. I'll wait for the BD exclusive studios to support HD DVD or for there to be a $500 MSRP BD player.

I don't doubt that. As I've said countless times before the HD DVD discs are amazing, the player is a turd.

Any word on release date ?

Yeah they need to do some release dates. I've passed on most of these on DVD but now that I have a newborn, I'm thinking Blu-ray could be a great reason to get them.

One of the reasons I chose to have children.

My friends no longer look at me askance when seeing my Fairy Tales and animated film collections. ;)

Reallly ? I thought that "the wild" is regarded as one of the best looking title and its in Tier 0.

The Wild is a Tier 0 title, and is an AVC encode. What exactly is wrong with it that needs to be done better? Well, beyond the fact that it's a crappy combination of Madagascar and Finding Nemo?

/I'm so happy Lasseter is now Chief Creative Officer at Disney/Pixar and head of Walt Disney Imagineering so we can start seeing the quality come back to Disney titles.

I watched this title last night and compared it with SD version...it's just a slight improvement...I am aware that such kind of movie, it 's difficult to do better ...
Regarding the story, nothing original..;that was mixture between Lion king, Madagascar & finding Nemo...
