I have a problem playing almost any video on my HTPC. I have an NVidea 6600GT video card. I do use Powerstrip to display 1920x1080p to my Westinghouse 42" LCD monitor (1080p native). Desktop and internet and everything look super.

Here's my problem. When displaying DVD video (through WMP9 or PowerDVD) or any video via WMP9, the gamma is way off, set too dark. I go into Nvidea Control Panel/Video and Television/adjust video color settings, and in there I see Gamma set at -8. I click "Restore Defaults" and the Gamma switches to +9. The colors look great through video once I do this. However, once I close that control panel, and restart any video player, the colors are back to dark, and I need to go readjust the gamma. This is extremely annoying, how come I can't get the gamma to stick? No matter what I do in the Nvidea Control Panel, no matter many times I try to save the settings, it just doesn't stick once I restart a video program!

Could it be Powerstrip? I've fiddled with everything there, but nothing effects video playback.

Can anyone provide any insight or hints on what to look for? Thanks very much.

Why are you using powerstrip? Maybe try uninstalling it.

The reason I use Powerstrip is because the desktop isn't centered correctly without it.

In any case, I just uninstalled Powerstrip and rebooted my computer, same problem with video being too dark. I'm lost as to what the problem can be, anyone have any insight? Thanks.

Also sorry I have no other suggestion. I find Nvidia drivers extremely frustrating to use for reasons like this.

Now I have reinstalled Powerstrip, but Powerstrip won't let me get into the advanced timings screen so I can position the desktop correctly. Grrrr.

Perhaps your TV can do the positioning itself.

Are you using profiles? If you are, that might be the cause of your problems. If you aren't, try setting one up with the correct gamma settings and having a hot key for it that you can press at any time.

If that doesn't work try updating/reverting your drivers.

What version of the Nvidia drivers are you running? I and others have had similar problems with the later versions (91.45 and 91.47). I'm back on 9.31 because of this.

Some have reported good luck with the beta version also (92.91), although I had other problems with those. There's a lengthy thread over on the Theatertek forum.

I just installed an Nvidea 6200 on an inexpensive Dell. I am using the Intel mb adaptor for the Dell lcd and the dvi output to my DVDO box and on to a Panasonic AX 100.

I had installed the Klite codec pack and before the 6200 installation I got VLC, MediaPlayer etc to play anything I gave it wonderfully including .ts files. After putting the 6200 and leaving the Dell lcd on the Intel card in I can start viewing video in MediaPlayer on the lcd and slide it to the adjoining projector window. The part of the MediaPlayer window on the projector screen is blank while the video displays correctly in the lcd window. If I disable the Intel adaptor and run both screens off the Nvidea then the media applications won't start and the machine bogs down and has to be powered off.

So right now I can't get any video application to display over the 6200. Confused drivers? Dunno.

Also, should I leave the Intel mb video card enabled so that all the 6200 horsepower goes to the projector window?
