View Full Version : Mustang Screens?
ameyerstein 10-23-06, 03:30 PM Anyone using Mustang screens (sold online at Amazon, Tigerdirect, etc.), apparently made/distributed by Stampede Presentation?
If so, how are they? How do they compare with Elite and Accuscreen? I'm not finding almost anything online in terms of reviews, etc. and trying to choose among these budget choices for an electric 92" 16:9 screen.
Thanks!
Avi
Jason Turk 10-23-06, 03:51 PM Stampede is a distribution company. They sell to dealers (projectors, audio, mounts, plasmas, etc...). They do not manufactuer these and essentially I believe they are OEM'd from Draper.
ameyerstein 10-23-06, 09:07 PM Thanks, Jason. I guess I'll call Stampede to confirm. If these are Drapers, it would be helpful to me to know which ones.
Do you happen to know anything about these "Mustang" screens regardless of who makes them?

Mustang screens are the same as Elite.

ameyerstein 12-13-06, 12:02 PM Robert,
When I spoke with the Mustang folks, it was clear that they are still getting up to speed selling these new screens and did not have answers to some of my questions. I ended up going with an Elite VMAX (and I'm happy with it) because I needed to be able to adjust how far down it would go, which the Mustang does not do, according to the company.
Avi
65cobra 12-13-06, 06:52 PM hmm, I thought you could adjust how far down it goes. I ordered one to use with my HD1000u...should be here by the end of the week. I was under the impression that they were essentially re-badged Elite screens. Oh well, guess I will find out soon enough. Is anyone else running one of these Mustang screens, results?
Thanks
ameyerstein 12-14-06, 12:43 PM Yeah, I had seen posts that they were essentially Elite screens, but I specifically asked them this and it sounded like they are having these manufactured for themselves (probably somewhere overseas, as Elite seems to do).
These are showing up in more and more places online. Someone's got to be using them and hopefully will share more info. Good luck!

Don't feel to bad. I once had a New York to Boston shipment take 5 business days, including a whole weekend for 7 total days. You can walk from New York to Boston faster than that,
I hate UPS

Saw a what seems to be a great deal on this on a website - were you happy with yours?
graffixjones 12-24-06, 04:02 PM I'm also curious about the quality of the screens.
I'm asking because I just purchased an InFocus IN72 that includes a free Mustang fixed screen of 82", 92" or 106" diagonal (16:9).
I went to the MustangAV site, and the fixed screen datasheets are for the Draper Cineperm M1300 screens, which would be fantastic. I'm currently using a DIY screen that's about 1.1-1.2 gain (pearlescent coated).
Heck, it was pretty much the perfect time to buy a projector... $200 rebate and a 106" screen for free... now I just hope that the screen will be worth it (but for free who can really complain?)
graffixjones 12-26-06, 04:54 PM Actually you can scratch my last inquiry, since I cancelled my order (the company was on InFocus' unauthorized listing).
But I guess the information could still be helpful to others that are considering purchasing a Mustang screen.

Where did you see that AbesOfMaines is an unauthorized reseller for rebate? could you please share the link?

Abes of Maine called me to find out where I'd gotten my deauthorized list information. They nicely asked if I could talk to Stampede Global, a distributor for Infocus with whom Abes gets the IN72 product. I did indeed speak with the Abe's account rep at Stampede, and they confirmed for me that had I gone through with my purchase with Abes, my rebate and warranty would have been honored. I sincerely wish that I would not have cancelled my order, for I spent a considerable amount more at another reseller for the same product.
jtfischer 01-04-07, 06:13 PM I got one of these motorized 16:9 92" screens to use with my HD1000U projector for one of my customers. No complaints so far. I have heard they tend to curl on the ends if you leave them down all the time.
Operation is smooth, quiet, works well so far. I'm just trying to figure out how I can use the 12V control of the HD1000U to make the screen drop automatically.
One problem, the screen I got didn't include the remote even though it was supposed to., had to get a replacement sent.
I'll let everyone know how I fare. PM me if you need any additional info

I am a happy owner of a 84" / 16:9 Accuscreen.
Love it. No waves and retracts and shuts every time. I used to own a Da-Lite Model B and hated it. I called accuscreen before I made the purchase. They called me back witin the hour and answered all my questions.

** Oh I did try to call mustang screens and e-mailed and they never did contact me either way. So I passed on them.
Theater lover 05-28-09, 10:31 PM Unfortunately I did buy a mustang screen in December for our new theater room. A Christmas present for our kids.
Our little one grabbed the screen while it was going up and something broke in the motor. I am sure it was our fault and I am completely willing to buy a motor or the small plastic part that broke to avoid my 4 year old daughters finger from being broken.
I know they need to design safety in an automatic screen.....
I have called 20 times, talked to someone one time who did not know anything about the product and took my email and stated someone would contact me within 48 hours to discuss options for repair. That was 3 weeks ago and since I have sent them 3 emails requesting contact and called over 10 times.
I am in the process of filing a complaint with Amazon (where I bought the screen) to see if I can BUY a motor or gear to fix this. Too many complaints with Amazon does affect their ability to sell there too.
I must say I have gotten Awful customer service from Mustang. I can't believe a company like this can stay in business.
I am Posting this so others here can be informed and stay away from this company. I may contact some of the other manufacturers listed in this thread and see if they can help me. It is really frustrating to have a broken 92" screen we paid $300.00 for and cannot get a simple response from Mustang.
DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCT
Jason Turk 06-04-09, 11:21 AM As far as I have seen the parent company isn't doing that well so often customer service is out the door... Sorry you are having trouble!
