View Full Version : Which Harmony remotes can learn?

Harmony seems to have a dizzying array of remotes available. Presumably many of these are old stock since they have been around a long time and seem to be offered with big discounts. I refuse to buy any "universal" remote unless it can learn. No matter how good they are there are always one or two commands that can't be programmed. Which of the older Harmony's have a learn feature? The Harmony web site only lists their current products and some of them do not even seem to be on the market yet.

I'm leaning towards the 676 or 680 due to their keypad layouts. Do either of these learn?

All of them can "learn", but it usually just matches up with something in their database. With the size of the Harmony database, it's actually unlikely that you would need to learn a command. All Harmonys have almost the same programming and there is no difference in the programming of the "6xx" series remotes.

Do either of these learn?I had a 676 for about a month but it wouldn't do what i wanted it to do and wouldn't learn from my other remotes. I returned it and bought a URC MX-500 Learning Remote from Amazon for about $75 and it controls everything in my house, and learned every command i taught it.

I also have a 676 and it learned just fine from other remotes as well as what the database plugged in. It still needed some tweaking but it all works great now. Maybe you just had a bum unit?

I got the 676 for x-mas. It won't learn anything. It seems like a POS. I am taking it back!

Are you pointing the original remote at the right end(bottom) of the Harmony?

It can't learn independently like other remotes. Also, look at the other thread on the 676. Mine wouldn't do anything at first. The face plate was partially depressing one or more of the buttons preventing the memory from accepting any updates.
