There will of course be updates, some are already due, half the floor has tile now.
All boxes for electrical and speakers have conduit to the top of the walls. The rear speaker locations are already obsolete, oh well. I will end up ceiling mounting the rears and left and right as well.

The french doors are my biggest issue for light control, I have a great solution for the double window.

With a genuine imitation suede shade!
Well chime in with both questions, and ideas!
Screen will most likely be from the DIY section, a wilsonart designer white laminate in a 5'x8' raw sheet reduced for 110" 16:9 screen. I will mount a box style mount behind it to the wall without any trim attached to the screen. The wall behind will have velvet for pop. The screen will float about 3"-5" out from the wall, and I might mount ropelight to the box mount and hidden behind the screen for a fun previewing effect.

The front right corner will house the goods, AV receiver and stuff, with connections from the large gang boxes. There will be corner cupboards both left and right of the screen. A full wall of cabinets and bookshelves will run from the front right corner cabinet down the entire right wall. There will be a low run of cabinets under the screen between the corner cabinets.

I added a 2 gang box on the right wall where the cabinet bookcases will be. That will have usb/firewire/rs232 connectors to plug a computer into and interface with the other equipment. Just an idea I think has a future.

Got the tile in!! AND walls painted red (Kirsch Red, flat, Sherwin-Williams). Decided to not paint where the screen will most likely go, I just left it the grey primer, also left the area for the forward right corner cupboard grey to get a feel of spacing. There will be an identical one on the forward left corner.

Tile gets grout wednesday!

put pix up on a public website (webshots) and added pix of tile and paint.
Painted around area that screen will go, and around right corner cupboard, just to get a better idea of size and distance. There will be a corner cupboard on the right too, and cabinets underneath the screen connected to both corner cabinets. The first post has a good description that hasn't really changed much,....yet :p ;)

What is the height of the room you are working with?
I assume that you are planning on a dropped ceiling for future access?

Yes, it should be approx 7'11". I am going to use a 3 demensional tile that I have in my office, and use some sort of treatment (Paint/cloth/??) on the ceiling near the screen area.

Finally got some cabinet going.

Worst part is that I have to wait 2 weeks for more parts they "forgot". So won't get counter tops or bookshelves and cabinets till mid July at the soonest.

These are from lowes.

The flash makes them look a lot lighter than they are. The cabinets are a spice finished cherry.

If you are getting cabinets from somewhere like Lowes, and they are installing them, be vigilant. My installer is a great guy and sales guy was great, but the mistakes are mounting up and delays driving me and the wife crazy!
I have some parts that weren't ordered, some the wrong width, and some have gotten here, some get sent the 10th and others the 17th! I have been calling everyday to get them to have the stuff scheduled to be sent the 17th to be added to the 10th, no answers so far. The cabinets were ordered memorial day, delivered June 27th, some installation was done quickly on the 30th of June, but countertops were ordered wrong too. Countertops are off and there are 2 cabinets that were ordered 27" vs the 30" required, missing skins and fillers have just been unbelievable to me.
You are required to pay for a measurement that is put towards your order, and because they screwed up some of this is free, other is not, so I am madder than H3ll!
The materials laying around waiting to be installed make it impossible for the A/C guy to put in his ducts, and the trim and paint guy can't get to half the baseboard and large window, so the whole room likes like it won't get done till after the 20th at this rate, maybe into Aug to resked the HVAC and room trim.

ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Well, they came again today with the wrong countertops, this after they had the wrong ones on Monday. My lord, how hard is it for them to order the correct countertops? I guess the answer is "Extremely Difficult!".
So I am awaiting the 4th set of countertops, and 2 more weeks. I feel like I am living the movie Money Pit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oj15gi7x6mg&mode=related&search=) and they will be finished in "2 Weeks".

I hate Lowes for how horribly this has been handled. I had hoped to have this done for 2 of my daughters have sleepover parties for their birthdays next week, and the room will be a mess.

I would NEVER allow Lowes to do cabinets in my home EVER again. And I am a Huge lowes fan, but this should be illegal.

here is a pic of me at the DIY laminate screen. Back wall is all cotton black velvet. Screen is borderless and floats off the wall.
You can see the cabinets from hell on the right, waiting for the 4th order of countertops so they can finish.
Chairs are a temp arrangement while we think and look at different seating arrangements.
Screen is 110", Projector is Espon Home Cinema 1080.
image is via Oppo 981 and is only 480p here, is a widescreen projection altered to 16:9.

SVS SBS-01's (horizontal mount-ya not optimal but they are rear surrounds), and epson 1080p!

Well the installers just left, we have 3 minor things to do including add the organizer cabinet over the desk, they were sent the wrong one.
I am happy at the look, and excited to get this one done and out of the way.

One of the things to do, clean up my velvet wall install. Trim the bottom and attach.

No one has posted a comment, guess I haven't been asking much, but would love to hear what some think.
BTW, large thick carpet to go down over the tile (thick pad too).

Just curious, I know I have not asked many questions, but 1700+ looks and only 2 comments. Am I doing something in the basement so backward looking that folks are too polite to say I'm doing some stupid stuff? or It seems fine and needs no elaboration?

GeorgeIII

I don't think you are doing anything stupid. It may be that not many people are used to seeing that much shelves & cabinets lining one entire wall in a media room.

We had 18 ft. of cabinets & shelves in our last basement on the long wall and 12 ft. of cabinets & shelves on the back wall. So I can relate to how such a room would be used. I love having that much good looking wood in a room.

It looks great! My guess is that maybe the lookers are looking in the thread to find some thing technical and they aren't finding it. The other part of my guess in that it seems fine.

Sit back & enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Thanks, I was getting paranoid.

My biggest tech trick was the beam between the joists in the ceiling that isolates the mount. Other than that it is pretty straight up.
Thanks for letting me know.
