Hi All,
This is my first post on AVS. I am currently having some issues with my DSM-320. I have it connected wirelessly on my network. I have a Dlink DI-624 router which is connected to my P4 Win XP Pro computer. The DSM320 updated itself to the latest firmware, 1.08, and I have installed the latest Dlink Media Server to ver. 1.08. Ever since I the DSM320 updated to the latest firmware it is unable to detect my media server. I am able to ping the DSM320 through my router and through my computer without any issues. I have also used the Network Magic software to verify that the DSM320 is connected to my network properly. I have talked to many Dlink support people, and have gone through all of the FAQs on the support website and still haven't been able to fix the problem. Do you guys have any suggestions on what I can do to fix this.

BTW, before the firmware update the DSM320 worked fine.

Also, I have tried Tversity and Windows Media Connect without any luck either.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I would like to be able to use my DSM320. There are many videos that I want to see, but don't want to be stuck to seeing them on my computer.

Have you tried double-checking your WEP keys? Perhaps re-entering them on both your wireless router and your DSM-320?

I don't have any WEP keys set on my router, so I know this isn't the issue. The odd thing is that I am able to ping my DSM-320 through my router and my comp. Still can't figure it out, and there seems to be no one from D-Link who knows how to fix this problem.

A couple of things to try:

Do you have ZoneAlarm or any other firewall running?

Have you tried going through the Setup Wizard on the DSM-320 again?

I don't have any firewalls and I have turned off the Windows firewall as well. I have tried running through the DSM-320 setup a couple of times, but it still can't find a server. I have also done a manual reset on it as well, but no luck either.

Other things to check for:

When running the D-Link Media Server, under the System tab, is the Local Media Server Name the default D-Link Media Server?

Under the same tab, have you tried to do an update manually? Does it connect? If it does, you should get a message that "Your Media Server is up to date."

Are you running some form of Norton?

Can you see your wireless network when you do a Site Survey with the DSM-320?

Answers to your questions:

1: Yes the media server name is the default D-Link Media Server
2: I have tried to do a manual update, it connects, and it gets the message "Your Media Server is up to date"
3. No I am not running Norton, but I am runnin Active Virus Shield, which is a version made by Kaspersky
4. Yes, I can see my wireless network when I am doing a Site Survery in the Setup wizard.

OK, this is a tough nut to crack. Try the following, in order.

I ask about number 3, because Norton AntiVirus considers the DSM-320 as a worm and blocks it. Here's how to fix that in Norton (http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=2116&question=DSM-320%20/%20DSM-320RD). You may want to try a similar fix with your antivirus, if it also has worm protection. I have done this and it worked for me. You may even wish to briefly shut down your antivirus to see if that makes a difference.

Is UPnP (Universal Plug and Pray;)) enabled? Here's how (http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=2233&question=DSM%2D320++DSM%2D320RD).

Have you tried the famous antenna mod (http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1283958#1283958)? I have also done this and it worked well for me.

At this point, you may want to reset the machine to its factory defaults and start from scratch. Have you tried both the soft and hard resets? I've successfully jumped through these hoops as well. :p

Soft Reset:

Step 1 Point the remote control towards the unit and then press Setup.

Step 2 Go to System and then press Enter.

Step 3 Go to System Reset and then press Enter.

Hard Reset:

Step 1 Turn off the unit.

Step 2 Locate the reset button on the back of the unit. Insert a paper clip into the reset hole and turn the unit on.

Step 3 Continue to hold the reset button for about 10 seconds.

My last idea is that things went bad for you when you upgraded the firmware. If the firmware flash didn't complete correctly, then you may have irremediably compromised your machine. However, if it's just the new firmware version that is causing your woes, there may be a way to revert to a previous version. D-Link does not make this easy at all, but several brave souls have found a way, which involves "fooling" the DSM-320 into downloading a different firmware version than it automatically does normally. It's a bit convoluted but apparently it works. I have not tried it myself, but it may be your last best hope. Read this two-page thread to learn how (http://p214.ezboard.com/fdsm320frm2.showMessageRange?topicID=83.topic&start=1&stop=20). Good luck! :)

I am thinking that things went bad on this one. I just recently upgraded to the latest firmware, 1.09? and it still can't find my media server. I am going to try and revert back to an older version and try and fool it. Hopefully this works. If anyone else has any suggestions feel free to sound off.

One more thing you might try before reverting the firmware: Have you tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling the Media Server software on your computer? Have you tried installing it on another computer in the house, even if you have to, say, borrow a laptop from a friend, to see if that works? It's kind of a Hail Mary pass at this point, but maybe it's worth a shot.

So I installed the Media Server software on my gf's laptop and I was able to detect it on the DSM-320. So i guess something on my comp is blocking it from being viewed by the device. When running the server off of the laptop I was unable to load any videos. It was taking a long time to load up the videos, and when it finished it gave an error of "Unable to load file." I never used to have this problem before, so it is kinda odd that it is happening now. I think I'll need to connect the laptop directly to the router instead of running it off of wireless, which could be the issue. I'll keep you posted on how things go.
