I've had my Runco 933 (with the tripler box) for a long time, and have been happy with it, though obviously, I haven't been really pushing it.
Now that TiVo (all hail TiVo!) has come out with a HD DVR, however, it's time to get serious.
The problem, of course, is that the TiVo DVR outputs YPbPr, and the Runco wants RGBHV. So I'm looking for a reasonable solution that connects the two.
One concern is cost, obviously, because the Runco is a bit dated, and since it doesn't have the accursed HDMI input, if the copy-protection wars heat up, I may be left with something that I can't use for regular TV. So one possibility is instead of getting a transcoder, selling the 933 and getting some reasonable substitute. So I would like som eadvice on that possibility as well.
Much obliged for any assistance you can offer.
best,

The Runco you have is an NEC 6PG Xtra. It is far from dated as if set up properly it will throw a better picture than the vast majority of new projectors out there.
But anyway, moome makes a DVI input card for the NECs and he is working on HDMI input cards now that should be available in the months to come. There are also other external solutions that can be used. That NEC is not ready for the trash heap yet!

Thanks for the quick reply. The Crescendo box looks like it will fit the bill quite well. Unless someone posts a "stop! whoa! wrong! message, I'll order one.
Regarding tweaking out the Runco, does anyone have any recommendations for people in the Wilmington, NC (SE NC) area that would be able to do that?

Yes, I have mine installed and the Runco reasonably dialed in for 1080i, and I'm pretty pleased.

"go! yeah! wright!"
:D
I'm surprised I did'nt see this before... I'm just chiming in to offer a little correction and ask "How did your 933/HD-TIVO work out?"
The correction is Daves' referance to moomes' cards... unfortunately, the 6 and 9 PG does not have modular inputs... moomes' card is for XGs.
He does, however, have an HDMI/component input card for the ISS switcher that seems to work pretty slick (I'm just beginning to set up and evaluate mine now.)

The 933 and the Tivo are now pretty happy. Picture looks quite nice, and you can tell the difference between 480i -> tripler -> Runco and 1080i -> Runco in the facial detail and in small text in ads, though I have to admit the tripler has been doing a bang-up job. I'm not sure yet if I prefer the TiVo 480->1080 upconversion to 480 through the tripler via the TiVo's s-video out; my intellect tells me the TiVo upconversion should be better, but the tripler is fighting hard for my affections. I think it doesn't want to be relegated to the sole job of letting my kids play Guitar Hero on the big screen.
