View Full Version : Dish 622 - archive to PC?
cgott42 11-02-06, 06:34 PM I'm just wondering as I read recently that the 622 has /will have an option for external hard drive.
Does this mean (or will it mean via hack) that you can archive and watch to PC?
timecop 11-02-06, 07:03 PM Nope
Joseph Clark 11-03-06, 12:59 AM The way to archive from the 622 to a computer is with the Nextcom R5000 mod - however, you can only archive what's coming in live via the tuner, not what's already recorded onto the hard drive.

That is a very expensive mod too. Sure wish E* would enable external hard drive support.

You can always switch to Comcast or other cable co in your area. Archiving HD content from Comcast HD DVR to PC via firewire works great for me. :)

I had that and it did work well, when the cable was working. I fought comcast for 2 1/2 years on signal fluctuations that drove me nuts. I finally got tired of it and switched just last week to dish. I absolutely love the 622. It is so much better than the moto 6412 with the exception of archiving via firewire.

timecop 11-07-06, 04:52 PM How does 'external hard drive support' equals 'archiving to PC' which is the original question?
Obviously, the contents on external HDD will be encrypted, and most likely drive is to be specially (read: unusable by PC) formatted in order to be used as an archive device.
MozartMan 11-07-06, 05:24 PM There is "DishRip" Yahoo group, but it is only for DishPlayer 7100/7200 and PVR501/508.
MozartMan 11-07-06, 05:28 PM I can't post url yet because I re-registered with new name recently and don't have five posts yet.
MozartMan 11-07-06, 05:28 PM This one should be fifth post.
MozartMan 11-07-06, 05:29 PM I am trying to add url now.

Perhaps, except that nobody else has as much HD programing as Dishnetwork (the VOOM channels) does now days; that's why I switched from DirecTV.
The 622's MPEG-4 processing sure looks nicer than MPG-2, too.
Too bad the DVR's recorded content can't be passed easily onto a PC or tape machine for permanent archival, tho... :(

cgott42 01-09-07, 05:29 PM Did Dish Network end up implementing the external HD support (and could it be archived to PC)
Also any option in the works with Directv?
