This disk has outstanding PQ and SQ, and thus should be a treat for those who like Jazz.

I've seen a few glimpses of this series on PBS, and decided I didn't like it enough to invest my viewing time. The part I disliked most were the conversations and mostly chit chat about "the old days." Some of the music is very fine, though, even for those like me who aren't big Jazz fans. This disk is all music, fortunately. The disk includes about 14 performances, one each by 14 performers/groups. My favorites were "The Panther" by Marcus Miller and Lee Ritenour, "Armando's Rhumba" by Chick Corea, and the piano duet "Take the A-Train" by Dave Brubeck and Billy Taylor. Total run time is only 56 minutes.

[BTW, it irks me that there is no easy way to see time remaining on the Samsung!]

The PQ is sharp, with eye-popping color, due largely to the HD-optimized soundstage. Not surprisingly, the PQ is better that I remember from the telecasts.

Sound choices are 5.1 Dolby True HD, 5.1 DD, and 2.0 PCM Stereo.

I used 5.1 Dolby True HD out of the analog outputs. Great bass and use of surrounds for the audience response.

"The Panther" sounds especially nice, and I especially enjoyed the scat-singing version of "Take Five" with Al Jarreau and Kurt Elling. Great disc!

Eh. But I don't like all the performers, and the ones that I do I want more!

Worth it? I dunno. I'm way past the, "Just because it's in HD I'll buy it" phase. I'll just tape the ones off PBS I want.

Mine was a Blockbuster rental. Netflix does not list it yet.

All Blu-Ray players extract the core 5.1 from Dolby TrueHD. In the case of the Legends of Jazz disc the TrueHD soundtrack is played back as 448Kbps Dolby Digital. If you select just the normal DD track it is also 448Kbps. The sound is quite good and a bit of a testament to how good DD can do at even that bitrate. Our review of this disc just posted yesterday!

bferr1 showed me a couple of clips last weekend of this disc, and I was stunned at how nice this disc looked and sounded. This is going in the library very soon. :)

If you want specific performers, then you should e-mail them and that you'll support the performer-specific BD releases. However, getting their first BD is not going to hurt your cause.

I love this title too. It looks and sounds AMAZING (using the BD-P1000).

I tried to play it over the PS3 and it would NOT play. Says "Cannot play this disc" or something...
Legends still wouldn't play after I applied the software update that came with NBA 2k7... This is all so new...

I just ordered this and the Pat Metheny. Should be here by the weekend as it stated in stock and I selected prority mail 2-3 days. :)

I was going to get the Pat metheny on HD-DVD but the site listed it as out of stock so Blue Ray it is.

Has anybody gotten this title to play on PS3? I bought it last week, and it will not start up in my PS3. It just says, "This video cannot be played." I returned the disc for a replacement, but it hasn't come back yet.

WOW!!! This disc is amazing! The best HD picture I've seen from any source. And I agree with the above assessment of the Dolby Digital sound. Even if you don't like jazz, get this disc to show off your Blu-Ray player to your friends. This shows what Blu-Ray is capable of. If only every title were nearly as good!

I have to send this one back. I must have the early pressing because it won't play on my PS3

I have many Blu Ray and HD DVD's, this is one of the best PQ DVD out. If you want to show people what Blu Ray is about Please Check this DVD out. I showed it to some freinds, and they all orded Blu Ray Players the same week.

Great Music
Excellent Colors
Great Black Levels
WOW!!

I saw the TV show in HD, the Blu version is 10 times better than the Channel 13 HD. Support Public Televison, I wish they could put the special DVD version they have of the show.!
