I have been looking for a new computer chair to replace the hand-me-down I have had for the past couple of years. It was an ugly powder blue, and the chair wouldn't go as high as I'd like, which resulted in my wrist being elevated all of the time.

I was at Best Buy last week, and notice the AK Octane chair on display. I liked what I saw, so I said I'd take one. They had none in stock, but offered to deliver one free to my house. Sweet.

Got it a few days ago, put it together, and I love it. I'm surprised it took someone this long to make a computer chair for focused towards gamers. The chair is very comfortable. The rocking mechanism I think will take a few weeks to break in, as it is fairly stiff right now. Overall, it feels very sturdy. There is a good range in height adjustment on the chair. The best feature for me is the adjustable arm rests. They can be adjusted up and down, forwards and backwards, and left and right. With this chair, I have the perfect height for looking at the screen, and my arms rests are level with my computer desk. Also, rolling over carpet is very smooth. I also like the overall design and colors of the chair.

Well worth the ~$150, IMHO. Here is a link to their site: http://www.ak.com/products/office/octane/

Looks like a cool chair, but how exactly is it focused towards gamers? Does the seat have an industrial-strength charcoal filter in it to filter out farts during a 6-hour Naxx raid or something? :p

On that note, does anyone else have an ancient computer chair they've used for years, that... uh... "lets the evil spirits out" if you sit on it the wrong way?

Well, :
Spacer mesh upholstery keeps you cool and comfortable ;)

I just mean it has a few features that gamers can appreciate, and it's actually marketed towards them.

The chair is $50 off at Best Buy this week. I think I might try it, as for over 20 years I've used an old basic dining-table style wood chair with no arms.

I have no idea how much damage I've done from that:) It's weird how comfortable it seems to be, maybe I'm just used to it.

Thanks for the comments on the Octane, they help me decide I'm going to go see if the local store has a demo.

I'm suspicios of the marketing angle when they throw on a nice target group in the name like 'gamers' without clear features, but you helped explain the issue.

Like the adjustable height and forward/backwards movement on the arm rests. I'm able to adjust everything just right for those long gaming sessions.

Hmmm...tempting at $99. How has the seat cushion held up? That is the main complaint with my current chair. Cheap padding that doesn't provide any cushioning after some time at the keyboard.

Held up just fine after 2 months use. I'm on the computer I'd say 4 days a week, for a couple hours each day. Unless I have a day off....then it's 6 hours ;)

Pciked one up today. It seems comfy. I like the big wheels and my son's new favorite game is spinning in the chair.

AK customer support is awful and I will never deal with them again. Buyer beware ... my story is below.

I bought one of the Oktane chairs from Best Buy (unfortunately the only place to buy it). The main piece of the chair that everything screws into was defective and every time you lean back it creaked and sounded like a snapping sound not that the adjustment worked at all. AK requests that instead of returning the chair you deal with them directly. Their web site said you can't call them since their lines are down but the instructions offered a toll free number. I emailed them and called only to find they won't get back to you for ~2-3 business days and I never got a response from them via email. I finally got a call back and they promised to ship out a new chair and I would have it in 5-7 business days, not just the piece which I thought great. 2 weeks later nothing, 3 nothing, call them and waited again and nothing was ever shipped out. Then they claim they will ship out the main piece that day which conflicts with what they said earlier. Already this is past the 30 day return period and I'm getting nothing but games.

I actually got good customer support from AK, although it had a minor hiccup. I had an AK Rocker which broke (they later changed the design to include a strap to keep the legs from flaring out). I took a photo and emailed the support guy and they sent out the new part, unfortunately they sent the wrong part and so they had to resend the correct part. They didn't make me send anything back to them and they also sent me an extra cover for it.

I almost bought one of these chairs but Best Buy didn't have it in stock and I wound up getting a mesh back chair at Costco that felt a little sturdier.

I'm trying to find somewhere or someone that wants to sell their AK Octane Office chair, Best Buy no longer carries them and Ebay has NONE! I really want one. If anyone has one to sell or knows where I can get one please let me know.
