It's baaaaack.... For the past two days every main AVS page I go to. The top of the page loads, then there is a 15 second pause where nothing happens, then the rest of the page with the threads loads in a split second.

This has happened before (a few times) and the Mods always blame browsers, tell us to switch browsers, clear cache, etc. Never works, then mysteriously it clears up

Seeing something like this, too, with a Explorer 6 and Windows XP, although it's the first I can recall seeing such long pauses. -- John

And it appears, the magic wand has fixed it already... hmmm, coincidence?

still hanging on ad servers

Have made no changes to any servers or software. If it comes and goes it could be the route you may take is congested. We do have high load today. Will keep an eye but do not see any issues on this end.

I'm having the same problem. However, this has been a problem for a long time with AVS and it seems to come and go. I don't have any problems with other web sites and forums so I don't see how it can be my browser (IE6), internet connection (T-1), etc. I've also emptied my browser cache and cleared out cookies.
For IE6, in the bottom border of the browser over to the right there is an icon (an eye and a stop sign) for a Privacy Report which seems to show that the hangups are occurring from the AVS ad servers (www.avsads.com and altfarm.mediaplex.com).

AVSADS is the ad server for the site. altfarm.mediaplex.com is a ad serving company that one of our sponsors is using. If your route to any server that is being called is having an issue, or that provider is having an issue, you can see the slowdowns.

At this point I have tuned off Adbrite for they ARE having issues again.

Thanks for letting me know.

I have noticed this site is lagging as well.
Not getting much better either. :(
Like David says, it is probably the traffic flow.

Looks like the problem is back again.
David, did you turn something (Adbrite perhaps) back on again?

Some Ads take longer than others (like they're giving you more time to read the Ad).

They wouldn't do that intentionally, would they? :p

Edit:

I've also tried clicking on an ad during the delay, and it immediately brings up the ad window, every time.

As of right now I am not seeing any slowdowns based on ad calls to either Adbrite or other off server ad calls. I do keep checking.

It was not us this time Mark...it was the network the operations center is on. They had OC3 issues.

It's back again. For me started last night, continuing to happen this morning...

BTW individual threads, search, and search results pages load lightning fast/no problem, but every main forum index page has this PAUSE.

I am on the site right now, and have been this morning, and do not see any slowdowns I am sorry to say.

OK here as well

Again it's magically fixed, coincidentally minutes after I post... hmm

David Bott

It can be issues with a path that is taken to get to a site or any server that that site needs that can make for such issues. Routers get jammed up and then can clear up quickly or have issues for hours if no one at the operations center sees it.

All in all, in this case, I did not see any issues related to us.

Just got home from work. Doing it again tonight... right now at least.

EDIT: ISWTG every time I post this problem it gets fixed five minutes later.

EDIT 6/1/08: It's Baaaaaack. There's already another thread, so I won't bump this one.

Was not even on-line to fix anything at that time. Sorry. Sounds like a route issue.
