Have a new mac mini....anyone have luck connecting one to a Samsung 1080P. Manual says the HDMI port does not support PC. Will the mini recognize 1080 resolution or will I need to adust?

I have an older mac-mini and am wondering the same. I will be heading over to bb today to pick up a dvi to vga connector as well as the dvi to hdmi cable just in case.

How do you plan on making the connection? dvi-->vga or dvi-->hdmi? Just curious what most people are doing. I have read somewhere that the hdmi worked on this set 4695d with a mini but they didnt specify if it was the new or old model.

I had my mini connected to a sharp aquos gen 1or2 20" LCD via S-Video or RCA Video and it looked like CRAP!!! I know there were some issues with the power of the display adapter in gen 1 mini's being able to drive external displays. I wonder if there will be an issue with lighting up my 46" Sammy?

I'll post an update tonight if I can. I also have to run to Cablevision to pick up my HD DVR...This display ROCKS! Day 2 with the new set :)

Oh almost forgot: If you check out flickr>com/photos/sp00f/307254107/ picture showing my DIY bias lighting. Not the best pick, but a good attempt.

Alright, here are my results:

I went and got my hands on a DVI to VGA converter, plugged it into the back of my mac mini, ran a VGA cable from it to the back of my LNS4695D along with a phono wire for sound. Booted my mini and switched to the PC input on the LCD..... BANG! Loving the 1080P output. Mini did an autodetect and the picture is amazing. Bluetooth keyboard an mouse make surfing from the couch a breeze. Couldnt be a better setup.

Couple of settings questions:

Whats the best way to make it easier to see the small fonts? The large display and high resolution matched with my vision are great for most things but, I would really love a way to change the default font size in one place without sacrificing the overall resolution. I am sitting approx 5 feet from the 46".

DVD Playback. I havent yet watched a DVD through the mini. Any input on how well the image will be? upconverting info, etc? Anyone using handbrake?

Slingbox Pro? Anyone using it with OS X?

Sharing media with X360 from OS X? Anyway to do it?

Thanks and good luck to fellow mini HTOSXers. This is one awesome setup. Screw vista.

What BT keyboard and mouse are you using? I finally settled on the wireless Mighty Mouse after trying a couple of other options, but I haven't found a wireless keyboard I like yet.

It looks like http://www.nullriver.com/index/products/connect360 is an option. I haven't tried it yet although I mean to. I've also heard that Windows Media Connect is just a UPNP server, so it's possible that any one of the UPNP servers available for Macs would work. Let us know if what you find and I'll do the same.

Im just using the Apple BT mouse and keyboard, not even a mighty mouse. To be honest, I hadnt put a whole lot thought into it but would love to hear about other options for mouse/kb.

I have the same hook up as you. Gave up on the hdmi input to get use the whole screen but having trouble reading the font. Wondering if you had any luck with changing the default font size.

There are a couple of ways.. if you have a scroll wheel and hold down "control" while scrolling you can zoom in to see the portion of the screen. However i know that you probably would rather just see it as is and just in a larger font, you can change the size of the system fonts in System Preferences > Appearance... but if you have a specific program that you want to change such as Firefox then then you will have to change it on a program by program basis. I know in Firefox its Apple(command) and the "-" and "+" keys.... i think it should stick even after you quit...

To be honest i don't have a mac mini yet, iam waiting.. .i have a macbook pro for now networked into the living room, not ideal but good enough until after the new year...

I use handbrake but not for ripping DVDs.. i usually use MacTheRipper... if i use handbrake its usually going to ipod but now i use VisualHub, really great program... they have a free version as well to check out.

Slingbox Pro? Anyone using it with OS X?

yup, set up slingbox here hooked up to my Directv HD DVR box, works like a charm.. had to play with the NAT settings and forward a couple of ports.. but my friend in Italy gets to watch all the sports he wants now.. needless to say its impressive and the mac client is pretty good, a few things are missing from the it that the windows client has, but nothing too major.

Can't help you here.. still have a PS2 ;)

BTW, i have a Samsung HL-S5087W and the Macbook Pro looks fantastic.. can't wait to get the mac mini in there..

How do I get 1080p out of my mini?

I've got a 1.83gHz Mac Mini connected to a Sony 52" XBR3 using a cheap DVI to HDMI cable. I can change the display to 1080i, but "p" is not listed.

How are others getting 1080p?

How are others getting 1080p?The XBR3 is an LCD, so if the Mini is auto detecting properly, it should send it a 1080p signal. Can you check the incoming signal on the display to verify it is only getting 1080i? On my MacBook and a Westinghouse 37" w3 1080p LCD via DVI, when I look in the System Preferences display settings, it shows the video resolution as 1920x1080(interlaced). But when I check the display's info screen, it shows that it is getting 1080p. And I have heard a few other reports like this. So I know that the display prefs in OS X can show an inaccurate setting.

The TV says it is 1080i. The Mini says 1920x1080 (interlaced).

I found SwitchResX. It displayed 2 1920x1080 resolutions. I selected the "other" and the TV now says it is 1080p. The Mini still says 1920x1080 (interlaced).

Where can I find some content that will demonstrate the difference between "i" and "p?"

is there any luck on this 1080p issue?

when mac mini shows 1920x1080(interlaced), you can really tell it's running at interlaced mode aka 1080i but not 1080p.....

I'm using a DVI->HDMI cable and connect it to my Samsung 50" Full HD Plasma (the 5084 sold in the states but asian model is called P9).

Is it a bug in Mac mini? I even heard Mac Book Pro also can't output 1080p at all....seems like I'm not the only person who suffer this....luckily I am using the mac mini for a temp media box b4 I got my popcorn hour / 6500A

really no way to resolve this?
