When they first started carrying it, MusicDirect was selling the MF X-DACv3 for $599! I'm kicking myself for not going ahead and picking one up and now it's back up to its $999 price tag.
But lets say I could find that X-DAC again for $599; which would you choose at that price, the MF X-DACv3 or the Channel Island VDA-2?

you should check out the modified Lite DACs (both tube and NOS) and the DIYEDEN Great March at www.pacificvalve.us .
oh, and they have sales on the first tuesday of every month.

Not long ago, I was considering a DAC upgrade. My new speakers, however, are showing me just how good all my electronics have been all along. I think the upgrade bug may remain at bay for quite some time, now.

If I had had an extra $1000, I would have gotten those. 705's are enough for my room, though. :)

I am thinking of getting the LITE CD 15 cd player from pacific valve.

Xindak DAC-3 or DAC-3 Mk11 if you want tube buffer. You may have trouble finding a 110v. Chinese brand that can be had for cheap. I still use mine and grin for the price I paid two years ago.
