hershman3 11-11-06, 09:46 PM I couldn't find a thread so I thought I'd start one. I'm new at this. It seems a little overwhelming. I mean I'm already stuck on inputing if my tv is 480i or 480p into the panny. I have a Toshiba 62mx196 TV .
When I tune the Panny to a channel, the quality of the picture isn't the same as when I switch back to the TV ( my main source). Do splitters effect quality?
How do you guys know all this stuff?
Other questions as this thread continues, I hope.
guardrail 11-11-06, 09:51 PM and a word or two about dmr-eh75vs TV guide settings.
I've tried three different setups so far and can't get the guide downloaded. Am conncected with the unit and good old charter's motorola box

hershman3 11-12-06, 07:16 AM How do I get it to record Digital channels from antenna?
How do I get it to record Digital channels from antenna?
It can't...it's got an analog tuner. You'll need a digital box to convert the signal to analog...the kind from a cable co. or similar.
hershman3 11-12-06, 02:03 PM Would a G-Link be able to allow me to record any channel, including digital, I have on the TV to the recorder?
vferrari 11-12-06, 02:10 PM Can you please explain your setup.
Do you have a digital box (cable, satellite, ATSC tuner) external to your TV or does your tv have a built-in tuner? If external, you should be able to record the digital channels from your digital box to your DVD recorder by using the analog audio and video outputs (composite, s-video) from your external box to one of the three audio/video line inputs (L1, L3 on rear, L2 on front) on the EH-75V. If you have a digital tuner internal to your TV, you may have audio/video outputs on your TV that you can then feed into your EH-75.
G-link is for device control not video signals.
hershman3 11-12-06, 10:08 PM I have a DLP tv w/ built in HD for over the air. It gives me analog and digital channels from over the air. I have no cable, sat, or anything else. The digital channels would show on the tv as 7-1 or 5-5, etc.
On the Panny75 you can only get analog channels. the standard 2,4,7, etc. The TV Guide on the tv shows the HD channels broadcasted over the air. The TV Guide on the Panny only shows the analog channels. I have a HDMI connecting the two together.
I want to record the digital to get a better picture. I know it won't record digital but the pic might be better. I also want to record some of the channels the TV gets but doesn't show on the Panny TV Guide.
Hope this helps
It sounds as if you could record the digital channels your TV tuner receives if your TV has a Composite or S-Video output. Connect one of those cable sets back to your EH75 inputs, then select that input to record...of course, you'd have to leave your TV tuned to the digital channel you want to record. (Composite and S-Video connections are 480i, so if your TV outputs automatically send a 480i signal thru one of those outputs, you're OK...some cable boxes have to be "set" to send a 480i signal thru an output...not sure about your TV.)
I just tried something similiar but was not happy with the results. My HD LCD has an atsc/QAM turner. I use QAM via coax for HD when my cable box is busy doing something else - e.g. outputting to my DVD recorder.
My television has a/v outputs (SD). I tested the quality of an HD broadcast down res'd through the TV to a recorder and was not happy with the PQ at all. It was terrible. Evidently this is not a strong suit for my television.
Hopefully other's experiences will be better.
I just got one of these EH75 machines. I am recording unedited material onto the HDD. Now I want to edit out what I dont want before burning it to DVD. What is the best way to do this? The book is pretty dense, so i am looking for a tip to get me started in the right direction.
TIA,
Brain
hershman3 11-28-06, 06:37 PM I'm just starting out also but I would watch or fast forward to the point I want to edit then push 'create chapter' on remote. Then I would push it again where I wanted it to end. I did this for the whole video then under submenu I picked view chapters and delete the chapters I didn't want.
02Deuce 12-01-06, 05:07 PM For editing out commercials, press the sub-menu button, click on Edit and Shorten. Hit start at the beginning of the commercial and then end at the end of the commercial. You'll still be left with garbage at the front of the title, so go back and click on Edit and then Divide. Divide the title right at the start of what you want to keep. Exit back out to the title lists and then delete the new title that you just created (it will be shown just before your old title that you edited).
Rammitinski 12-03-06, 02:04 AM On the Panny75 you can only get analog channels, the standard 2,4,7, etc. The TV Guide on the tv shows the HD channels broadcasted over the air. The TV Guide on the Panny only shows the analog channels. You should be getting those channels - you probably just need to go into the channel editing listings in the Panny to search for them, then turn the digital channels "on" for them to show up in the guide and start filling in with data.
hershman3 12-03-06, 08:19 AM Went to edit channels. It dosesn't show the digital channels.
vferrari 12-03-06, 09:42 AM You cannot receive digital OTA channels on the EH75V so the TV guide will never show them contrary to what has been previously posted. HD/Digital channels associated with Cable or Satellite providers will show up if you set up the TVGOS assuming a CATV or Satellite provider as the source (vs. OTA) and provide a means to transfer gude channel data from the provider's digital box to the DVDR (your typically have to use the IR mouse to allow the EH75 to switch the digital box search and lock onto the guide channel). To record OTA digital channels as fed from your DLP tuner, you need to tune the DLP tuner to the desired channel at the time of the recording and set up a manual timer recording on the EH75V tuned to the appropritate line input feed from your DLP TV (L1, L2, or L3 as appropriate). You cannot use TVGOS in this case.
Rammitinski 12-04-06, 02:19 AM Well, then the E55 must be set up differently than my Panny E85 and my Sony RDR-HD900, or else he just doesn't receive them in his area, because I certainly can receive pretty much all the local digital channel's data OTA with my units. I had to go into the channel editor to turn them on, though.
I was just referring to the data - I know you cannot receive the "channels" themselves through the tuner.

So even though the OTA digital channels cannot be received by the tuner, the OTA channels show up on your TVGOS. I have not been able get them to show up on my EH75V, but I'm also connected to analog cable and really don't want to mess with my setup.
Rammitinski 12-05-06, 12:50 PM So even though the OTA digital channels cannot be received by the tuner, the OTA channels show up on your TVGOS.Exactly. But you'll still most likely have to search them out in the editing guide. They usually don't come up automatically with an analog based TVGOS unit.
I'm only OTA, so maybe they don't come up as often with cable. I don't really know.
It's possible that if you haven't done a reset in a long, long time or checked your inner channel guide, that they may have been added since. I heard that they were making some logo changes recently here in the Chicago area to the L7 TVGOS version's channels, so if you've got that version, some changes might-be-a-comin' your way, too. They may even add those digitals.
bmwmick 01-03-07, 08:37 AM I am awaiting the arrival of my EH75 and JVC LT-46FN97. I will be connecting the JVC to the EH75 via HDMI but is HDMI bi-directional at all? My JVC also has two IEE1394 (Firewire) in/out ports. Will I be able to connect the EH75 via IEEE1394 to record? The JVC has ATSC/QAM tuner so will I be able to capture digital out of the IEEE1394 port? Should I also connect the two using the component video out from the TV?
No STB is involved here.
Thanks for all the great tech data here.
Mick
bobkart 01-03-07, 02:12 PM No to all of that.
The FireWire input on DVD Recorders only works with DV. Your TV probably puts out MPEG-TS.
HDMI to the TV is as good as you can get. But no audio/video comes back to the recorder from the TV over HDMI. Only S-Video or Composite Video can get A/V to the recorder, plus DV over IEEE1394 and the recorder's analog tuner.
bmwmick 01-03-07, 05:11 PM Bob,
Thanks. Yes, TS is listed for both IEEE1394 ports on the TV. Oh Well, it was a nice thought. :)
