I just got an AVIA disc from Ebay, but it doesn't come with the red and blue filters. Any ideas where I can get these filters? Does it have to be a certain specific type, or would it be just any transparent red/blue film that I might be able to find at a local store?

I'm trying to setup my Infocus SP4805 with this, by the way.

you get filters from THX, DVE, and Ovation. I would probably recommend you buy the filters from DVE as they are in a handy card thing and they're only a few bucks I think.

AVIA is made by Ovation Multimedia (http://www.ovationmultimedia.com/contact.html), Ovation is the parent company and is not the source for the AVIA calibration DVD. I agree with ChrisWiggles, the DVE filters are the easiest to get (for all 3 colors). THX only sells the Blue ones (as plastic "eyeglasses") - the only ones needed for making the Color & Tint adjustments.

Ok, just sent them $3 and an envelope....

The filter shown on their website includes all three colors, correct? Or at least that's what I thought...hopefully I don't get just one color filter...

How is it you have an AVIA without the filters in the first place - was it a rental?

Yes it should be as pictured, a card with all three filters.

I don't know about you guys but my DVE "card's" filters are way too dark for my tastes. Maybe I got one from a bad batch. Avia's and THX (blue) match FWIW.

Another source is stage lighting supply houses. "Lee Filters" sample filter books (usually free) can get you all 3 for free. And the full sheets are not very expensive to purchase anyway. Forget little cards and glasses, you can make color filter face shields with those if you want :D.

Claus, did we document the color filter numbers in the GetGray "manual", I forget? I need to if we didn't.

I have been telling people to buy AVIA because it comes with filters - is there a version without available - or is this ebayer selling pirated rentals - or was it represented as used?

I just assume coming from ebay that it was used or something. As such filters might have been lost or not included.

Buying Avia or DVE new should have the filters in the package. If a new Avia/DVE does not come with filters contact Ovation or JKP and they should send you the filters.

Since all three color filters are mounted in one card I'm guessing he is safe, though the description is poorly worded at best.

t.

You're absolutely right: DVE's filters are darker.

They are darker because they WORK.

I get more consistent results with DVE than with AVIA for black & white points, chroma and phase.

The difference between DVE and the filters you prefer is the difference between pure horsepower and the "fart" mufflers on one of those ricer Civic mods, designed to "imply" horsepower.

Just sayin' it like it is.....

AVIA PRO filters are also much better!

Just sayin' it like it is.....Whatever you say <poot> ;) I just hit the "blue" switch on my Lumagen for horsepower. Don't need no stinking filter :)

Hey I'm with you there! Blue-only's the holy grail of alignment, I'm just speaking for those who can't readily achieve it. Why do you think I'm still waiting for answers on how to manually(physically) disable guns inside a direct view?

gotta be a way....

Claus, did we document the color filter numbers in the GetGray "manual", I forget? I need to if we didn't.Scott, I just looked and we did not include the AVIA filter numbers (actually their Kodac Wrattan numbers) or the Lee Filter numbers. I have them and I will PM them to you (and post them here, too), as soon as I dig them up.

It took me a couple of HDD searches, but I finally found my information on the color filters for calibration use.

According to one of the AVIA calibration FAQs, their filter numbers are:
Deep Red Tricolor #29
Deep Green Tricolor #61
Deep Blue Tricolor #47B

The Lee Filter numbers, per another AVS forum thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=7217162&&#post7217162), were identified by GetGray (you forgot, Scott  ), and verified by Lee, via rwestly & Daryl L.

The correct Lee Filters (as of 2/28/06) are:
Tokyo Blue = #071
Primary Red = #106
Primary Green = #139
{NOTE: Lee’s Tokyo Blue is their equivalent to the Kodak #47B, Deep Blue Tricolor.}

Can anyone verify that the $3 DVE filter includes all 3 colors?
